  13. [11:16] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Once you've paid your two-pulo door fee, you're allowed past the Winter Rose's door guards into the brothel proper without further incident. The guards don't even take your weapons, perhaps another sign of the sort of clientele that favors this place, or else of their confidence in their ability to keep the peace.
  14. [11:18] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Your first impression is of a rural hunting lodge, strangely displaced into the middle of a city. The timbered ceiling arches high above you, held aloft with smoke-stained beams. A large fireplace warms the main room, over which no less than two cauldrons of food simmer.
  15. [11:18] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The walls are decorated with elaborate racks of antlers and the heads of fierce wolves; a bear has a place of honor above the fireplace itself.
  16. [11:20] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The illusion is only marred, perhaps, by a handful of factors. One is a bar tucked nearly in one corner of the room, where a surly looking dwarf pulls pints and stares at the second factor, the stage located at the opposite end of the room.
  17. [11:21] <Commissar_Cornflakes> To the tune of a strange, Arabyan-sounding flute, a startlingly beautiful woman clothed in gauzy veils dances and slowly disrobes while a scorpion the size of an Altdorf sewer rat restlessly paces up the length of one pale, perfectly-shaped arm.
  18. [11:22] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The patrons of the Winter Rose seem quite enthralled by this act, with only a few exceptions.
  19. [11:22] <Commissar_Cornflakes> A pair of mercenaries appear to argue over the attentions of a bemused-looking Ungol woman, who makes no attempt to intervene.
  20. [11:27] * Jean is clearly distressed by the atmosphere, mainly the woman dancing on the stage, but doesn’t say anything.
  21. [11:28] * Bennie (IceChat78@sux-640C50FC.tu.ok.cox.net) Quit (Ping timeout)
  22. [11:29] <Kristoff> Kristoff is thankful that his helmet hides the fact that he finds his eyes wandering to the dancer every now and again.
  23. [11:29] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I am thinking we should have come here first," Antonio says, apparently much more at ease.
  24. [11:33] <Jean> “Ugh. Let’s just be done with it quickly.”
  25. [11:33] * Yelena unashamedly enjoys the show.
  26. [11:34] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Antonio scoffs, "Porca miseria! You-a would want to rush through things, Bretonni. Take it from me, things like this, they need a little time..."
  27. [11:35] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Now the pair of mercenaries seem about to come to blows, and the Ungol girl is stepping carefully back, when a third man steps, seemingly from nowhere, to intersect himself between the two mercenaries.
  28. [11:35] <Kristoff> "Er, yes, right. We need to find someone who looks like they know something. I'll try and get a feel for the place."
  29. [11:35] <Commissar_Cornflakes> He's well but modestly-dressed, a man in his middle years. Balding, but not bald. Plump, but not fat. He wears a calm, friendly expression and no weapon at all, but the pair of men immediately stop their quarrel.
  30. [11:36] <Kristoff> ".....On second thought, I think we found our best source."
  31. [11:36] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Over the general murmur of patrons and employees as well as the bizarre warbling of the flute, you can hear the man talking.
  32. [11:36] * Orzad eyes the room suspiciously, given that they're investigating a kidnapping ring in association with brothels, the foreigner is extra suspicious
  33. [11:36] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "-please, I wouldn't want to have to call Algrim. He hates the Arabyan flute, you know," the plump man smiles, and the two mercenaries glance worriedly at the dwarf barman - who is now staring at them.
  34. [11:37] <Yelena> "I'm sure you still have time to 'feel' the place."
  35. [11:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> One of the mercenaries stalks off, and the plump man shrugs politely as the remaining one allows the ungol girl to hook his arm and lead him away.
  36. [11:38] * Kristoff begins to approach the plump man. "Excuse me, sir, could we have a moment of your time?"
  37. [11:41] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The man, who is watching the dancing woman on the stage fondly, turns to Kristoff after a moment's backward glance, snatching up a discarded wine glass off a side table and downing the contents, "Of course, Sudar. I don't believe I've seen you before, and I have an eye for faces - so let me welcome you to my Winter Rose. I'm Petyr Petradoch Petrovich," he extends one ring-clad hand towards the knight.
  38. [11:41] <Jean> “Time is the thing you have plenty of until you’ve run out. I’d rather not waste it if we can help it.”
  39. [11:42] <Kristoff> Kristoff shakes it firmly. "Kristoff Stahlhund. Apologies if my kislevarin is a tad rusty. I was hoping you could answer some questions."
  40. [11:44] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Time, my Bretonni friend, is never wasted went spent on a woman," Antonio tuts, "It seems the bow-wow has made a friend. I thought he preferred...younger company," the Tilean nods at Kristoff, whose low conversation with Petyr puts him just out of earshot.
  41. [11:45] <Jean> “A woman’s time, spent on you, is always wasted. It’s them I’m worried about.”
  42. [11:45] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr, for his part, smiles and nods, gesturing that Kristoff might take a seat across the low table from whence he snatched a wine glass, "Of course. Will your friends be joining us?" he glances the way of the rest of the party, apparently having noticed that you were together earlier.
  43. [11:46] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Sharp thorns on this rose," Antonio complains to no one in particular.
  44. [11:46] <Kristoff> "In their own time. They're the mercenary short; Skittish, you know. Of course one's Tilean and there's something with tits and a pulse so he'll have his own distractions."
  45. [11:47] <Jean> “I am neither a mercenary nor skittish, ser.”
  46. [11:47] <Kristoff> "Apologies. This is Sir Jean of Brettonia. He's a friend of mine."
  47. [11:49] * Jean nods to the man at the introduction, but otherwise doesn’t say anything further.
  48. [11:50] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr peers closely at Jean's face at the comment of 'he,' but chooses not to comment on the matter. "Antonio di Muratore," Antonio says, "And I must say, this, how you call it, 'Dokziema' is feeling more and more-a like home lately."
  49. [11:51] * Yelena takes a seat by Kristoff. "You bothered setting up a show, least I could do is enjoy it."
  50. [11:52] <Kristoff> "I was hoping you could help us. I'm on an errand at the behest of the sisters of shallya. A lay-sister of theirs has gone missing, a young woman who did work with the people of the docks."
  51. [11:54] <Yelena> "Not Anastacia, the other. The one who was not really a sister and owned a big dog," she says, still not looking away from the dancer and her scorpion.
  52. [11:56] <Kristoff> "Dark hair, pale skin, her dog was found poisoned outside of Tor's bolt. The sisters are worried."
  53. [11:59] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Ah, Ana - rare beauty, isn't she?" Petyr says worshipfully in reply to Yelena's comment. By now the dancer is most of the way through her veils, with the warbling music growing more intense. The massive scorpion drags the point of its sting across her throat, but neither she nor Petyr seem to mind the danger.
  54. [11:59] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Shaking his head to clear it, he turns back to Kristoff, "Big dog? You mean the Boyarina Novosi," he says, frowning, "You say she's gone missing? When? Where?"
  55. [12:00] * Yelena abandons the show and turns toward Petyr. "Shouldn't you know? You know who she is, after all."
  56. [12:00] <Kristoff> "Shortly after the White Naiad went down."
  57. [12:03] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr frowns, "The Boyarina did not work here, you know! She was an honorable woman. The girls here sometimes have...health complaints. Boyarina Novosi helped with that. Not just here, but-" he nods at Kristoff, "There as well. We all heard rumors she had something to do with that cesspit being shut down."
  58. [12:05] <Kristoff> "Any information you can give us would be helpful. Enemies, rivals, people who would want to see her vanish."
  59. [12:08] <Commissar_Cornflakes> With the dancer's show over and cheers interrupting him, Petyr is briefly silent. The player of the Arabyan pipe switches to a less nasal, obtrusive balalaika as the attentions of the patrons switch back to their drinks, each other, and the ladies of the Winter Rose. When it's quiet enough to be heard, Petyr speaks up again.
  60. [12:09] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well, it's said the Dead Men ran the White Naiad, and if you've been here for any length of time you know what sort of men they are," the balding Kislevite shakes his head.
  61. [12:09] <Kristoff> "Except we had words with the Dead Men, they simply ran protection. The White Naiad was supposedly run by 'foreigners'"
  62. [12:10] * Orzad gives a barely noticeable nod in the direction of Petyr and heads towards the barman, beginning with a rough-sounding greeting in khazalid to the dwarf
  63. [12:13] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I wouldn't know, sudar. The Dead Men collect dues from most of the Dokziema, it's hard for me to say where that ends and fronts begin. It's only a few streets and neighborhoods that the likes of the Red Caps or Sigmar's Sons control any more..." Petyr trails off as he spots the dancer approaching, now clad in a silk robe that might actually be Cathayan.
  64. [12:14] <Kristoff> "Well, what do you know about someone named "Grigori"?"
  65. [12:14] <Kristoff> "Grigory Aisenyev?"
  66. [12:15] <Orzad> "Hoy, cousin, I'm Orzad Brokkson, Runesmith. What's yer name? And what ye be doin' in such a low place as this, with'ot even a proper drink te' be servin folk"
  67. [12:16] <Commissar_Cornflakes> How such a thing could be afforded, it's difficult to say. The black-haired, blue-eyed woman moves with a feline grace that recalls the ice witch you were briefly acquainted with, laying a hand in greeting on Petyr's shoulder as she eyes each of you in turn. "An unsurpassed show as always, Ana dear."
  68. [12:16] <Commissar_Cornflakes> At the mention of the Dead Man's name, Petyr turns his attention back to Kristoff, "Aisenyev? He's the big bug in charge of the Dead Men, or near enough. They call him Pretty-Boy. Steer clear of him, lad."
  69. [12:17] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "New friends, Petyr?" Ana asks in the tones of a baroness.
  70. [12:17] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Not so much friends. It seems the Boyarina Novosi has disappeared."
  71. [12:17] <Yelena> "We might not have a choice, if the Dead Men have somethign to do with the disappearance."
  72. [12:18] <Kristoff> "Ah, yes, good evening Madam. Kristoff Stahlhund, knight of the shallyan order of the crimson gauntlet. At your service."
  73. [12:18] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Ana's face registers brief surprise. The large scorpion she had been dancing with scuttles from the back of her robe to her shoulder, "Perhaps she just ran off with that pit fighter she fancied."
  74. [12:18] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Ana extends a slender, pale hand to the knight.
  75. [12:19] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Meanwhile, the dwarf barman looks up at Orzad beneath bushy brows, expression briefly pleased to hear Khazalid tones.
  76. [12:19] <Kristoff> Kristoff remembers the old Brettoni style and takes her hand in his, raising the visor of his helm to kiss her forehand respectfully.
  77. [12:21] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The dwarf replies in kind, "Algrim Godisson, Clan Rustbeard. I could ask the same of you, you have the sound of...Karaka Ravnsvake? Aren't you a bit far south, dawi?"
  78. [12:22] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The dancer's slender eyebrows arc at the sight of Kristoff's red-gauntleted hand, "What sort of mark is that, Kristoff Stahlhund?"
  79. [12:24] <Kristoff> "In the empire, we are of a shallyan order. We draw steel on attackers, brigands, and assailants in order to defend the faithful and their charges, for the sisters cannot shed blood themselves. We mark our sin of violence on our weapon-hand in the form of a red gauntlet, or a red tattoo. I have reason to beleive her dissapearance may be linked to o
  80. [12:24] <Kristoff> ne of my order. If this is true, It makes this matter all the more urgent."
  81. [12:25] <Yelena> "Suren? She definitely did not run away with him, he doesn't know where she is either." She pauses. "And that was a... really interesting show. Where did you learn to dance like that?"
  82. [12:29] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Ana smiles thinly, "How strange," she says to Kristoff, extricating her hand, "And how unfortunate. The boyarina is a...dedicated woman. I came to respect her abilities in her time here." The woman turns her attention to Yelena, imperious gaze fixing the Ungol woman's, "I was born in Erengrad, before the Storm. It's a place where one can learn a great many things from folk from all across this world."
  83. [12:30] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr shakes his head, "The Dead Men - it doesn't make sense. I know Pretty-Boy. He doesn't...disappear people, like a...well, I won't be political. He makes examples."
  84. [12:30] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Even then, I'd expect someone to be walking around mauled if they had done it. That dog of hers hated men."
  85. [12:31] <Kristoff> "Men specifically?"
  86. [12:32] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "He was distrustful of everyone, I suppose, but yes, he hated men," Petyr confirms.
  87. [12:32] * Yelena nods and stares back unflinchingly. "Erengrad is a very interesting place. The docks bring in so many things from all over the world."
  88. [12:33] <Kristoff> "Good to know. Then our culprit would either have a dog's bitemarks, or be a woman herself."
  89. [12:33] <Kristoff> "The dog was poisoned, which is often seen as a woman's weapon, but I'm not one to make assumptions of gender. We still need more details."
  90. [12:33] <Jean> “Or they simply avoided being bitten.”
  91. [12:33] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Perhaps the strigany spirited her away," Ana says, only half-jesting, "They say the strigany steal foreign women to gift to their masters."
  92. [12:33] <Orzad> "Kraka Ravnsvake, aye. I had be'n makin' the pilgrimage to karak kadrin, and visitin' lots o' other places besides. The boyar's family has a good standing with my holding, so I was paying my respects to them for the marriage on my meandering journey home... But it seems the gal's gone missin'? And she apparently came around here and another place quite a bit"
  93. [12:35] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr nods at Ana, though whether he agrees or simply wants to agree with the stunning woman, it's hard to say, "There's dark words about them, that their wise women practice blood magic."
  94. [12:35] <Orzad> "And ah thot us dawi might be more honest to one another than these prattling manlings" he snorts
  95. [12:36] <Kristoff> "We spoke with the strigany as well. They were on good terms with the shallyans, and members of their own went missing too."
  96. [12:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Boyar? What boyar?" Algrim asks irritably, then when Orzad clarifies, he grunts, "You mean the Novosi woman. Aye, she was here regularly, seeing to the complaints of the whores. Where is her husband, or her father or brothers? These manlings don't care for their kin properly, and they've no regard for the life of a woman."
  97. [12:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> At the last comment, Algrim grins and pulls a pint for Orzad, "Well, you meet and honest manling and I'll shave my beard. Take this on the house. I don't hear enough of the tongue these days, even if it is the drak-speak northern dialect," he jests.
  98. [12:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "A local brew, but not terrible for it."
  99. [12:39] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "And you took their word for it?" Petyr says to Kristoff. "But - hm, I suppose I shouldn't cast suspicions even on thieves and liars like the strig. Not about something so serious. Hm...it occurs to me, now that you mention it, that we did have another man in here asking about disappearances."
  100. [12:40] <Kristoff> "Go on."
  101. [12:41] <Orzad> Orzad will take the drink and before downing half, quite quickly, say "Aye, but perhaps they can be taught... Did ye notice anything yerself that these manlings are concealing, though?"
  102. [12:41] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "One of our regulars, or he was for a while. Ah...Amadeus Keller. Had a fondness for Imperial girls. Yes, yes definitely. It was about a month ago, in fact."
  103. [12:42] <Yelena> "That'd be the man the strigany hired to look into the disappearances among their own, I assume."
  104. [12:43] * Orzad has a thought mid-way through his drink, if it's not a proper dwarf drink, and will finish it off if that's the case, before pulling out his aleskin and refilling the tankard, offering it to the dwarf. (Note contingency)
  105. [12:43] <Kristoff> "Aye. Did he carry an amulet with an owl on it?"
  106. [12:44] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr snaps his fingers, "Just so."
  107. [12:44] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Manlings aren't much for concealing," Algrim scoffs, "Only the usual, I think. Husbands away from their wives and that sort of thing. The boss supposes he's being discrete about the Ana woman. Bad taste, that. She's as stuck up as cat, comes and goes as she pleases. Only man she deigns to touch is one of those boyars. Demitrov? Demitri? Something like that."
  108. [12:46] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Orzad gratefully quaffs, smacking his lips, "Now that's more like it."
  109. [12:46] <Orzad> :V?
  110. [12:46] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "You think in a manling city, especially one the holds are on good terms with, they've have learned a thing or two about brewing."
  111. [12:47] <Kristoff> "That was an investigator of Verena, he was sent to look into the dissapearences, but vanished himself....did you maybe know where he might have been staying? A room at an inn maybe?"
  112. [12:48] <Orzad> "Drink fer drink, aye? And agreed"
  113. [12:48] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I just don't get it," Algrim complains, "Their legs are too long and they've almost never enough meat on their bones. And their women are constantly cutting their hair."
  114. [12:51] * Orzad nods
  115. [12:53] <Orzad> "Agreed again. Must be hard working here when ye can't even have a proper drink like home. Had ye heard anything about that other place, the white naiad, before it shut down?"
  116. [12:56] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Nai, not before. Afterwards I heard it catered to nasty tastes. Or that it was a den of cultists. Or that it was a front for processing Crimson Shade - there's been enough of that around lately. Manlings make rumors like halflings make muck, any of them could be true."
  117. [12:59] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr shakes his head at Yelena, "He didn't say who hired him, if that's what was going on. Frankly, I couldn't help him much. The girls here at the Winter Rose are free to come and go, and I have no truck with slavers. Algrim sees off anyone that gets possessive, usually short a few teeth."
  118. [12:59] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I have an understanding with a watch sergeant who prefers Bretonnians to look the other way if they try and file complaints. I think he likes the accent."
  119. [13:00] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Actually, you might ask Algrim himself. That's him, at the bar, talking to your dwarf friend."
  120. [13:00] <Kristoff> "Would he know where the investigator might have been staying?"
  121. [13:00] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Folks tend to go on quite a bit when they're drunk. I know Amadeus talked to him."
  122. [13:01] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr shrugs, "He might. Algrim...ah, he's not a friendly sort. But he's honest and keeps his hands off the girls, and fights harder than worshiper of Tor and an Ursunite friar over the last bottle of mead."
  123. [13:03] <Kristoff> "Well, let's hope our Dawi friend is able to soften him up a bit."
  124. [13:04] <Orzad> "You're pretty far from home yourself, although not as far as I. What brought ye here?"
  125. [13:05] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Bad luck," the dwarf says gruffly.
  126. [13:06] * Orzad refills the tankard and pounds his fist lightly on the counter
  127. [13:06] * Orzad is attempting to indicate he should go on
  128. [13:09] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Algrim purses his lips, stares at the tanker, stares at Orzad, then takes the tankard and polishes off the contents.
  129. [13:09] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Sighing, he speaks up.
  130. [13:11] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "You've heard of Karak Vlag, aye?"
  131. [13:14] <Kristoff> "Is there anything else you can tell us about the missing boyarina?"
  132. [13:15] <Orzad> "Aye. Fell off the maps..."
  133. [13:16] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Only that she was a popular woman, sudar. Even the Dead Men wouldn't be able to touch her without consequences, if someone had heard or seen something," Petyr says. Ana nods silently at this assessment.
  134. [13:17] <Orzad> "What about it, though?"
  135. [13:17] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well, we thought we found a piece of that map," Orzad says, "I was forty years, hardly more than a beardling, when we started searching. Twenty-five years later our entire expedition was gone and dead, or scattered. I wasn't going back to Karak Razniak like that. Better my kin think me dead."
  136. [13:18] * Orzad rubs his own beard as he mentions his age
  137. [13:18] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Algrim purses his lips in disgust, "Praag was too disgusting even for me, and there's too many elves in Erengrad. But this city is tolerable, as manling hovels go. I found work on the docks, then I found work here. Not much to it."
  138. [13:20] <Orzad> "What did ye find? As the survivor, surely ye'll want to mark down your work for the future, so others wont bother with the dead ends and such."
  139. [13:21] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I found death, beardling, enough of it. Too much of it. I'm quit of searching for that hold, even if some of the others aren't. It's an elf's errand.
  140. [13:21] <Kristoff> "Hmn, I'll go and speak with the dwarf then. Thank you both for your help. Jean, Yelena, feel free to continue asking them anything while I speak with the dwarf...er...with their consent, that is."
  141. [13:22] <Orzad> "ye should write a journal on it. Let the beardling would-be elves that surely come after yer expedition learn from ye mistakes"
  142. [13:22] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Petyr laughs, "By all means," he says, "Algrim doesn't bite. Well, unless he has good reason."
  143. [13:23] * Kristoff approaches the scene of the two Dawi talking. "Did you make yourself a friend. Orzad?"
  144. [13:24] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Ana smoothes her robe, "I wish you luck," she says by way of farewell, before turning and gliding away. Petyr watches her go wistfully.
  145. [13:29] * Orzad looks up at the human and back at the dwarf
  146. [13:30] <Orzad> [still khazalid] "These are the manlings looking for the girl. I'm working with them, for now. Agreed to have a look for her to the family."
  147. [13:31] <Orzad> After which, in kislev he'll say "I s'pose you folk would call it that. We enjoyed a drink taegaethe at least. Did ye get anything good to follow up on o'er there?"
  148. [13:31] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Algrim nods, then looks up at Kristoff. He frowns a moment, then pick a language, "Well?" he asks in Reikspiel.
  149. [13:32] <Kristoff> "Your employer mentioned an investigator. A man with an owl-shaped pendant. Do you know where he might have been staying?"
  150. [13:38] * Orzad looks expectantly
  151. [13:39] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Amadeus Keller," Algrim says, nodding curtly, "Imperial fellow, you know. Well-behaved. Last I heard, he was investigating some local murders - or maybe it was disappearances. I don't know. You manlings prattle on when you're drunk. I suppose he'd probably be somewhere in Little Altdorf, but I wouldn't bet my beard on it. Still, kin's kin, clan's clan."
  152. [13:43] <Kristoff> "Were there any girls he favored?"
  153. [13:47] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Just that Imperial wench, Gretel," Algrim nods at a slightly-plump blond who is laughing with a boatman and slapping away his hand.
  154. [13:47] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I think just so he could hear this sausage-scarfer language of his in the right accent."
  155. [13:49] <Jean> “There’s nothing wrong with sausages...” Jean states under her breath.
  156. [13:51] <Kristoff> "I'd say my accent is more schnitzel-scarfer than sausage scarfer."
  157. [13:51] <Kristoff> "But I get your point."
  158. [13:53] <Yelena> "Let's leave the sausage talks to Antonio and see if that girl's not too busy."
  159. [13:57] <Kristoff> "Aye, can you tell us the girl's name?"
  160. [14:00] * Yelena pats Kristoff's shoulder. "Gretel, he just said it. Gretel. Come on, he pointed there."
  161. [14:03] <Kristoff> "Alright, let's go. Maybe he left some notes with her or something."
  162. [14:05] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "-she said 'no charge!'" the boatman is saying finishing a story all too common and never, ever true. Gretel, for her part, laughs politely, eying your group's approach carefully.
  163. [14:05] <Yelena> "Or maybe he got talkative at the right time, yes."
  164. [14:07] * Kristoff rests his gauntlet on the shoulder of the boatman.
  165. [14:08] <Kristoff> He says nothing, a man in armor with a sword should be a statement enough.
  166. [14:08] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The man looks up. Obviously a Kislevite, he's heavily-tattooed, bearded, and moustached, with garish hoop earrings.
  167. [14:10] <Orzad> "Well, it was good speaking with ye. I may come back to hear more about that map some day, but I've got to finish with this first, ah think"
  168. [14:10] <Kristoff> "I think, friend, that you had best leave. We have an appointment with Gretel." He grips the shoulder tighter.
  169. [14:11] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Algrim grunts, "Don't get yourself killed over these manlings, dawi," the dwarf replies.
  170. [14:11] <Kristoff> "And bring gold next time you decide to bother a lady."
  171. [14:13] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The boatman angrily furrows his brow, "Fuck off," he says.
  172. [14:13] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Gretel looks between Kristoff, the boatman, and the rest of you warily.
  173. [14:14] <Commissar_Cornflakes> He erstwhile talking companion has not, as of yet, noticed the rest of you.
  174. [14:15] <Kristoff> "Miss
  175. [14:16] <Kristoff> "Miss Gretel. We're here at the behest of the church of shallya. We'd like to talk with you about an investigator from the empire who visited you?"
  176. [14:19] <Kristoff> He completely ignores the boatman, taking a hand off him, standing between him and her.
  177. [14:21] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The boatman stands, "Does 'fuck off' mean something different where you're from?"
  178. [14:21] * Orzad would've nodded and headed over to listen in on the conversation between humans, looking surly at the near-fight starting they get into
  179. [14:25] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Greta lays a hand on the boatman's shoulder and gives him a smile, "A moment, dear," she says. The boatman goes to protest and the Imperial woman puts a finger over his lips before leading you aside, at which point her demeanor instantly evaporates, "Sigmar's hammer, what is your problem, kid? And since when do Shallyans wear swords?"
  180. [14:27] <Kristoff> "Crimson Gauntlet. My job is to have a sword so others of my faith don't need them. I understand you knew a man investigating some dissapearences, an imperial like myself?"
  181. [14:28] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Gretel looks at you suspiciously, then her eyes settle on the dwarf, "You, dwarf. Tell the truth, what are you looking for this man for?"
  182. [14:31] <Orzad> "Eh? He might be looking for the same person as us, we think, we wanted to find out what he's found"
  183. [14:33] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Apparently somewhat mollified to hear a dwarf confirm it, "I suppose you're speaking of Amadeus, then?"
  184. [14:34] * Orzad nods
  185. [14:34] <Orzad> "That's what Algrim said he was named"
  186. [14:36] <Kristoff> "He was an investigator of Verena, with an owl-shaped pendant, right? Algrim said you were a favorite of his."
  187. [14:37] <Orzad> "Ye shouldn't talk about a woman like she's an object, lad"
  188. [14:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Not very mannerly, are you?" Gretel says wryly, casting an evil glare Algrim's way, "That old goat would be watching. Amadeus visited me often, yes. But not for what you think."
  189. [14:39] <Kristoff> "Oh? Please, elaborate. Any detail you can give us could save lives."
  190. [14:41] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Gretel's irritation seems to deepen. "He liked to talk, is all, and to drink. I know he lived in Little Altdorf - that's where most us Imperial folk in the city live, here in the docks - but I guess I must have...reminded him of someone. He didn't say and I didn't ask. Why?"
  191. [14:43] <Kristoff> "Because he was investigating the dissapearences of several young women. One of whom was a laysister of Shallya, and thereby, this becomes my business."
  192. [14:45] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The woman frowns, "He was in here about a month ago, asking Algrim and Petyr about that. That is, if they'd heard anything about girls taken for...well, you know. Sometimes people get talkative when they're drunk, or try to sell to Petyr if they're new to the city, but he isn't like that. He didn't want to talk much about it to me, he seemed scared. But excited. He got like that when he was onto something."
  193. [14:45] <Kristoff> "Did he talk to you about his investigations? Leave any notes or letters with you? Or perhaps mention where he might have been staying?"
  194. [14:45] <Orzad> "Aye, a friend of me clan's daughter has gone missin'. Tis too bad that ye folk dain't take the trouble to take care of yer lost lasses unless the important want it done, but a' least we're lookin' now."
  195. [14:46] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "No, nothing like that," Gretel says, "He - tried to keep me out of that side of his work, I think. Though..." the young qwoman makes a face.
  196. [14:46] * Orzad strokes his beard thoughtfully, watching the woman
  197. [14:47] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I can think of ONE person he might have left papers with, or who'd know where to find things like that. Sigmar only knows why Amadeus trusted the little goblin. Say, something hasn't happened to him, has it? I haven't seen him in about a month."
  198. [14:47] * Orzad is struck by some paranoia and turns slowly to survey the room for anyone listening in or acting unusually surreptitious, rather than going about the work of getting drunk, ogling a woman, or hiring one
  199. [14:48] <Yelena> "He's missing too..."
  200. [14:48] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Algrim occasionally glances your way, but seems more invested in his job. Petyr is nowhere to be seen, though Ana has taken up a seat and a long-stemmed pipe in a corner seat. Surprisingly, no one is bothering her.
  201. [14:48] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The other patrons and girls are busy in the way you'd expect.
  202. [14:49] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Gretel shifts uneasily, "Well, if Amadeus had anyone in Kislev he really trusted, it was Pigwidgeon," she sighs.
  203. [14:50] <Kristoff> "Pigwidgeon?"
  204. [14:50] <Yelena> "Pigwidgeon?"
  205. [14:52] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well, most folks just called him 'Pig,' to be honest," Gretel says, her expression sour, "A halfling, him. You'd think I'd be well quit of halflings this far north, but no. He and Amadeus went way back, to their Empire days. I guess Amadeus caught him after a string of burglaries, then defended him in a Stirland court so he wouldn't get lynched on account of being, you know, a halfling in Stirland."
  206. [14:53] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I dunno why the two of 'em came north, Amadeus never said and I never talked to Pig if I didn't have to. Dunno why Amadeus kept close to the lout."
  207. [14:53] <Kristoff> ".....This Pig. He didn't sell pies, did he? Near Tor's bolt?"
  208. [14:56] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Gretel laughs, "Pig's never done an honest day of work in his life!" she controls her giggles, "Sorry - sorry, just the idea of Pig doing something besides gambling or conning or mooching - well, you'd have to know him. Anyway, I didn't like him, he pinched without asking. But Amadeus trusted that little bastard. He's probably shacked up in Little Altdorf himself. I'd say try the Cock and Bucket, it's where all the halflings go."
  209. [15:00] <Kristoff> "Pfth, they would pick a name like that."
  210. [15:00] <Kristoff> "Thank you for your assistance, ma'am."
  211. [15:01] <Yelena> "I'm starting to think we'll have visited all of Kislev's brothels before leaving."
  212. [15:02] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Don't thank me, just tell the little goblin I know he nicked that pair of knickers. And find Amadeus. He's a good man."
  213. [15:03] <Kristoff> "We'll do what we can."
  214. [15:13] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Leaving the Winter Rose behind for now, you head back out into the city streets, which are slick with half-melted sleet.
  215. [15:14] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The bouncers give you friendly - though somewhat curious - nods farewell, apparently surprised to see you leave so quickly.
  216. [15:14] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Told you that Bretonni didn't look the sort into women," one mutters to the other.
  217. [15:15] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Are we sure that I should not stay and, ah, hm..." Antonio thinks, "...keep...an eye out...for this this Amadeus fellow? Why, he might-a return at any moment! And if no one were here? Cazzo!"
  218. [15:21] <Kristoff> "I think he can wait a bit longer, Antonio. For now, we need to see to this Pig fellow."
  219. [15:21] <Yelena> "You'll like that one too, I'm sure, a fellow pig."
  220. [15:22] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Nonsense. I never pinch without asking."
  221. [15:23] <Commissar_Cornflakes> You set off for Little Altdorf - necessitating some requests for directions - with an eye on making your way to the Cock and Bucket. This last bit gets you some odd looks, with some folks noting that it's a halfling bar.
  222. [15:24] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Gradually, your path takes you back towards the river, and you see signs that you're in the right general place. The construction shows definite Imperial influence - Kristoff no doubt feels like he's back in Ostermark - and you see occasional holy icons. Here, of Sigmar, there, of Ulric.
  223. [15:25] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Even a tattered banner printed with the name 'KARL-FRANZ.' The people themselves are little different, with Imperial fashion having given away, it would seem, to some Kislevite practicalities.
  224. [15:26] <Commissar_Cornflakes> One small side-street - little more than an alley - is your next stop, according to an insistent metalsmith. Rather than being robbed as you might expect, you find yourself in a neighborhood within a neighborhood.
  225. [15:27] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The ramshackle buildings are built to not-quite human proportions, garishly painted even where they show signs of damage and decay. The 'road,' such that it is, is narrow and claustrophobic, made so much worse by the leaning buildings.
  226. [15:27] <Commissar_Cornflakes> It's what is called a 'Kleinmoot' in southern lands.
  227. [15:29] <Yelena> "So what's this place called? Littlest Altdorf?"
  228. [15:31] <Commissar_Cornflakes> On the main "road," such that it is, close to the edge of this halfling neighborhood, you find your destination.
  229. [15:32] <Kristoff> "It's a Kleinmoot, Halfling land." He says with a nod. "Always the best place to be during pie week."
  230. [15:33] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The Cock and Bucket is impossible to mistake, owing to its sign - a colorful wooden cut-out of a bewildered-looking rooster poking its head out of a bucket, cunningly painted to look rather battered. It's reasonably well-kept, two stories tall, and from the sound of it bustling with life.
  231. [15:33] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Out front, a muscular (relatively speaking) halfling sits on a stool, smoking a pipe and eying the sleet sheeting down.
  232. [15:34] <Kristoff> "My sister roped me into helping bake sixty lamb mince and apple pies to give to the homeless Halflings in town. Incidentally, I learned Kvas and cold butterfat make for the best short-crust."
  233. [15:35] * Kristoff nods and doffs his helmet to the halfling at the door before heading in.
  234. [15:36] * Orzad taps his helmet as he enters but doesn't remove it
  235. [15:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The halfling switches his pipe at Kristoff's gesture, eyeing Orzad with amusement.
  236. [15:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Antonio boffs his own hat off on the doorway and catches it, not bothering to replace it on his head.
  237. [15:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The reason is obvious, even for the Tilean.
  238. [15:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The common room of the inn, while spacious, has a low ceiling; a few inches shy of six feet, in fact.
  239. [15:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Most of the space is occupied by tables and stools, and most of these are occupied by halflings.
  240. [15:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Man and woman, young and old, drunk and sober.
  241. [15:39] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Here a fellow who looks like a rat-catcher whispers something in the ear of a halfling woman dressed like a Kislevite maid. The uniform's identity is confirmed when, laughing, she produces a feather duster and begins beating the rat catcher.
  242. [15:39] <Commissar_Cornflakes> There a fat, jowly halfling plays cards with five other halflings who are, you assume, his sons. All accuse each other of cheating.
  243. [15:39] <Commissar_Cornflakes> A fire blazes in the hearth, which is crowned with a cockatrice.
  244. [15:40] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Well, you assume it's supposed to be a cockatrice - in fact, it looks more like a stuffed rooster's head with a bit of horn glued to it.
  245. [15:40] <Commissar_Cornflakes> In front of this dubious decoration, you espy a halfling tossing a ring hanging from a string attached to the ceiling over the cockatrice's horn. He's a twin for the bouncer outside.
  246. [15:41] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The bar is manned - rather, womaned - by a plump halfling matron, silver-haired and relaxed-looking as she pulls drinks for her patrons, occasionally aided in bringing food or drinks by the ring-tosser.
  247. [15:42] * Kristoff smiles warmly, glad to see some classic halfling hospitality even in a grim place like kislev. He sets some gold coins down on the table when the Matron rolls by. "What's on the menu tonight, young Fraulein?"
  248. [15:43] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The halfling matron glances up at Kristoff's bare head, down at his coins, and cackles, "You, I hope, dearie. Pull up a stool before you poleaxe yourself on a ceiling beam. Beer?"
  249. [15:45] <Yelena> "Next city we're in, we're looking for halfling inn first thing."
  250. [15:46] <Kristoff> "Beer sounds lovely right now. And something crusty and meaty for dinner, if you'd please."
  251. [15:46] <Orzad> "Aye that sounds good, lad."
  252. [15:46] <Kristoff> "Now, yelena,. now you know the best part of the empire."
  253. [15:48] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Right away. Chundo! Be a dear and help with the pie, would you?"
  254. [15:48] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Ring-tosser sighs good naturedly and wanders over to the kitchen as the matron begins pulling steins of beer. These prove to be human-sized despite the halfling-sized stools.
  255. [15:49] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The pies, when they arrive, are human-sized and then some, baked golden brown and filled with, among other things, chicken.
  256. [15:49] <Kristoff> "And now, Yelena, Jean, Orzad, my foreign friends, you will know the majesty that is the halfling pie."
  257. [15:54] <Orzad> "I'll take the same, but make my drink a dwarf sized one, not a wee manling's"
  258. [15:56] <Yelena> "Majesty of the halfling pie? It's going to have a tough competition with Antonio's. Well. He messed up his, and that was the cook's."
  259. [15:58] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Will you now, helmet-head?" Chundo asks in amusement as he returns, "Meradell, Sigmar's little helper here's orderin' drinks with a hat on!" his tone is light, though there's a glimmer of trouble in his eyes.
  260. [15:58] * Kristoff pulls off his own helmet self-conciously.
  261. [15:58] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The matron - Meradell, apparently - clucks her tongue, "Chundo here's a stickler for rules, mister dwarf, as I'm sure one of your folk can appreciate," some of the other halflings seem to be listening in, as a few other bar patrons chuckle.
  262. [15:59] * Orzad squints
  263. [16:00] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Tell you what, candle-head," Chundo says, "I've got a wager for you - you beat me in a game of ring-the-cockatrice, I look the other way on your manners."
  264. [16:00] <Orzad> "Ah well..." pulls the helmet off then presses the trigger with it in his hands, and hangs it from his shoulder
  265. [16:00] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "I beat you, you buy me a couple of beers," he says, "To account for the difference in taste between slims and dwarfs, you know."
  266. [16:00] <Commissar_Cornflakes> This witticism brings another laugh from the listening halflings.
  267. [16:00] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Meradell goes on, meanwhile, serving the rest of you.
  268. [16:01] <Orzad> "Beat a halfling at throwing little toys? Seems like an elf's errand."
  269. [16:01] <Kristoff> "Miss Meradell, might I ask you where we could find a halfling by the name of Pigwidgeon?"
  270. [16:02] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Friends of Pig's, are you?" the matron asks.
  271. [16:02] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Chundo grins, "What's the matter, dwarf, you don't half drinking games where you're from?"
  272. [16:02] <Commissar_Cornflakes> *have
  273. [16:03] <Kristoff> "Well, we're friends of a friend of his. We think he might know something important. Tell him We're willing to pay for a beer and a pie for him."
  274. [16:03] <Orzad> "Eh, may as well give it a toss"
  275. [16:04] * Orzad shuffles over and acquires the rings, looks around for where to stand, and tosses
  276. [16:04] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Mooch that he is, I'm sure he'd be glad to hear it," Meradell says, "But, y'know, I've not seen you around before. Must be interesting business."
  277. [16:05] <Kristoff> "I wish it weren't."
  278. [16:07] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well, wet your whistle and see if that makes you feel any better about it, first," Meradell says, watching Chundo wait for Orzad to take his throws.
  279. [16:07] * Orzad tosses three rings, taking a moment to pause between shots, each going more awry than the last
  280. [16:08] <Orzad> "Ach, see? I did say it was an elf's errand" he'll say after the halfling immediately makes several shots, I'm certain
  281. [16:08] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The denizens of the inn laugh and razz Orzad good-naturedly, a particularly fat fellow blowing a raspberry as Orzad misses his last throw.
  282. [16:09] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Now, now!" Chundo says, letting his voice carry, "Let's not be rude!"
  283. [16:09] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The fat halfling blows another raspberry.
  284. [16:09] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Chundo steps up, winking at Orzad, "Good thing I like beer, eh beardsly?"
  285. [16:10] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The halfling sinks two of three tosses, the last missing. Fatso blows another raspberry. Chundo points.
  286. [16:10] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The fellow holds up his hands in an exaggerated my-bad and Chundo grins, turning back to Orzad.
  287. [16:10] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well! That worked up a thirst. So it was a dwarf-sized drink you were buying me, right?"
  288. [16:10] <Orzad> "Aye. May as well."
  289. [16:10] * Yelena , meanwhile, tears into her pie, only stopping occasionally to have a sip of her beer. "Even better than Antonio's," she manages at some point, mouth half full.
  290. [16:11] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The halfling slaps Orzad on the back, "Good sport!"
  291. [16:11] <Orzad> I'll pull out my norse-style drinking horn to get it filled if they don't have an appropriate sized container
  292. [16:11] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The other patrons take up the call while Chundo pulls himself two beers. Surprisingly, he only takes one, bringing the other to his twin outside.
  293. [16:12] * Orzad pulls out 5 coppers and hands them when beckoned for the price
  294. [16:13] <Orzad> 7*
  295. [16:15] <Kristoff> Kristoff nods at Yelena. "Exactly. Halfling pies are a cut above the rest."
  296. [16:21] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "You're looking for Pigwidgeon, are you?" a dwarf at the bar suddenly speaks up.
  297. [16:22] <Commissar_Cornflakes> He's a broad fellow, sitting to Kristoff's left, with blondish-brown hair and a ruddy, cheerful face. A dark cape contrasts with his bright yellow shirt. The halfling fingers the (obviously fake) jewel clasping his cloak, eyeing Kristoff.
  298. [16:25] <Kristoff> "Yes, actually. We need his help in an investigation."
  299. [16:25] <Kristoff> "He's not in any sort of trouble."
  300. [16:28] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Knowing him as well as I do, that's hard to believe," the halfling comments with a laugh, "Tell you what, my throat's a little parched. Meradell got this lovely Bretonnian red in that I think would hit the spot. Make it easier to talk, and such."
  301. [16:32] <Kristoff> "Sure." Kristoff forks over the payment for the red."But try not to take advantage of my hospitality."
  302. [16:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> Meradell shakes her head as she passes over the bottle to the halfling, who accepts it cheerfully. He holds up crossed fingers in some sort of sign, "May a cat steal my breath if I do."
  303. [16:37] <Commissar_Cornflakes> He pops the cork, pours himself a small amount, savors it with gusto, sighs, and turns back to Kristoff, "Good stuff."
  304. [16:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "As I was saying, I know ol' Pigwidgeon better than anyone. He's a gambler, him."
  305. [16:38] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Apparently he was on a losing streak lately, got himself a bit in debt over at the Magnus. You know the Magnus, right?"
  306. [16:39] <Kristoff> "Never heard of it."
  307. [16:40] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "So the bureaucrats here in this city level all sorts of taxes on gambling dens. Door tax, wall tax, roof tax, gambling tax, alcohol tax. Tax, tax, tax. But see, the Magnus is a boat. It's been in harbor for over a decade now and barely floats, but it doesn't count as a part of the city."
  308. [16:41] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "So it's only subject to, you know, boating taxes and fees. A scam so good Ranald would copy it," the halfling says with envy.
  309. [16:41] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Er - got off track."
  310. [16:42] <Kristoff> "Yes, yes you did."
  311. [16:42] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Anyway, Pigwidgeon has been frequenting the Magnus lately. He knew all the old staff, back when Sigmar's Sons ran it, but none of the greenhorns since those Dead Men moved in and took over. I guess he...overestimated his abilities."
  312. [16:43] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "You DO know how the Dead Men are at least, right?"
  313. [16:43] <Yelena> "We know both who they are and how they are, yes."
  314. [16:43] <Kristoff> "You mean their tendancy to carry out mob "Justice" or their penchant for blowing up dockhouses full of women and children?"
  315. [16:44] <Kristoff> "Which they then proceed to assault with swords and axes?"
  316. [16:44] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well, you're not totally stupid," the halfling says bluntly.
  317. [16:45] <Kristoff> "I try."
  318. [16:45] <Kristoff> "We're not friends of the dead men, if that's what you're asking."
  319. [16:45] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "In any case, I imagine the Dead Men want their hands on Pigwidgeon badly. If they've got him, there's places on the Magnus they could tune him up until a friend came to pay for his debt. Or, you know, find some other way to get him free."
  320. [16:46] <Kristoff> "If what we get done gets done, then you won't have to worry about the Dead Men."
  321. [16:47] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Oh, I avoid them always as it is," the halfling says with a grin, "They're trouble."
  322. [16:47] <Kristoff> "I bet."
  323. [16:47] <Kristoff> "Tell me, do you know anything about an Imperial man, follower of Verena, name of Amadeus?"
  324. [16:48] <Kristoff> "He was looking in to some dissapearences, and we want to carry on where he left off."
  325. [16:49] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The halfling quirks an eyebrow, "Can't say I've seen him around these parts lately. He's a friend of Pig's, him."
  326. [16:51] <Kristoff> "Well, a lady of the shallyan church has gone missing. We think it's linked to the dissapearences Amadeus was looking into before he vanished. We want to find where the girl is, and with luck, find Amadeus too."
  327. [16:52] <Orzad> "...And so we want to find pig. Yes."
  328. [16:53] <Orzad> "So you think the dead men have captured him and are torturing him?"
  329. [16:53] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Interesting," the halfling comments, "I suppose I could poke around for the Verenan a bit. He leaves the city sometimes, him."
  330. [16:56] <Orzad> "That sounds helpful"
  331. [16:57] <Yelena> "Yes. We badly need help with all of this."
  332. [17:01] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Then I suppose you'll be wanting directions to the Magnus..."
  333. [17:02] <Kristoff> "What exactly would you be wanting from the magnus?"
  334. [17:05] * Orzad gives kristoff a look
  335. [17:06] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Well, like I told you, Pigwidgeon is an old friend of mine, right?"
  336. [17:06] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "And I'm just a halfling, after all."
  337. [17:07] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "So if they've got him in some beating-closet there and you break some things trying to get him out, why, I'm happy."
  338. [17:07] <Kristoff> "Mm-hmm. See I figured you were pigwidgeon and you were just talking like this because you were trying to be clandestine."
  339. [17:07] <Kristoff> "BUT. Beating some dead-men and getting our informant out will be good excersize if nothing else."
  340. [17:08] * Orzad rubs his chin
  341. [17:08] <Orzad> "You seem like the type of guy to ask about these helmets we got off some deadmen
  342. [17:08] <Orzad> "
  343. [17:10] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Me? Pigwidgeon? I was born Hartmundus Crumblefoot, and that's the name they'll put on the stone when I die. Besides, I'm better-looking."
  344. [17:10] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The halfling looks at Orzad, bemused, "I'm not a fence, dwarf."
  345. [17:10] <Orzad> "Know a good one?"
  346. [17:11] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "For junk helmets? You'd be better off selling them to beggars as soup bowls, at the prie you'd get from a fence."
  347. [17:12] <Orzad> "Eh, junk? They're fine quality, for non-dwarven work."
  348. [17:12] <Orzad> "Surprised a gang was wearin' em, honestly"
  349. [17:12] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Save the smiles for the rubes, dwarf. Just foist them off on some stall-monger or armor-store and be done with it."
  350. [17:13] * Orzad shrugs
  351. [17:13] <Orzad> "I suppose an mannish armorer wouldn't care that much about the armor he pounds dents out of"
  352. [17:13] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "As long as it stops folks dying from a blow to the head, I imagine not."
  353. [17:13] <Orzad> "Guess we'll have to see to it ourselves. What was that ye were saying about directions?"
  354. [17:14] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Course, if they died, not like they'd complain..."
  355. [17:14] <Commissar_Cornflakes> "Sure, now pay attention," the halfling rambles on for a bit, but it sounds like even without the instructions the Magnus would be hard to miss.
  356. [17:16] <Orzad> alright then
  357. [17:16] <Orzad> I finish my pie and drink
  358. [17:16] <Orzad> Was the pie good?
  359. [17:16] <Commissar_Cornflakes> (Yes, in absurdly large portions.)
  360. [17:19] * Orzad hangs his horn once emptied, and cranks his helmet's face open before replacing it on his head
  361. [17:19] <Orzad> "Let's head out"
  362. [17:20] <Orzad> * After a beat, Orzad will head outside, adjusting his cloak and making his way towards the Magnus
  363. [17:21] <Orzad> He'll give a nod to the proprietress, Chundo, and his brother, as he passes
  364. [17:23] <Commissar_Cornflakes> The denizens of the Cock and Bucket bid farewell to you.
