  1.
  2.
  3. The door would sudden creak, and a resounding slam would sound. Heavy military boots with iron soles, cracked and aged and worn as the man that wore them would echo loudly against the stone flooring. The mans clothing was...delicate. Proper and pressed, he looked more like a professor than any soldier or blacksmith, the personas he wore more often. A pair of glasses resting on the tip of his nose, eyes shifting as he would turn sharply on his heel against the segment of carpet.
  4.
  5. Both hands resting in his pockets. A beat, two, three, before his voice would finally announce itself loudly, words clear and concise. "Within the confines of these walls and this room, you will refer to me as 'Master Grauhimmel' or 'Sir'. You will obey my instructions at all times, raise your hand if you've a question, and stay quiet when I speak. If you've something to say not to me, keep it at a whispered level."
  6.
  7. "As is tradition, I'll allow you this: if you find yourself faint of heart, of a weaker breed of person, or simply uninterested? Walk out. Exit this building and I will think nothing less of you. You can go about your day and find yourselves walking amongst whomever and wherever. Careless as you ever were."
  8.
  9. A silence would creep in as his eyes slowly crawled acrossed the classroom. Seeking into each being that sat before him, measuring their worth as he waited to see if any would find themselves leaving.
  10. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  11.
  12. Hatsu remains seated, though he had likely returned Esme's explorative poke with one to her forehead. He had acquired several school utensils and placed them along his desk, relieved that he wasn't the oldest individual within the room! His seated positioning is somewhat lax, but he's naturally attentive as his eyes linger upon Dylerun.
  13.
  14. This would prove to be an interesting subject to explore.
  15. (Hatsu Wvelven)
  16.
  17. Achilles has entered School of Necro/Riftmancy.
  18.
  19. At the Dyleruns words she would nod... It'd been a long time since she'd been in a school to learn... Actually.. she taught herself everything.. She'd only been in here on occasion to here Ophelia speak and teach..
  20.
  21. She remained seated..
  22.
  23. Riftmancy was something she could use..
  24. (Jessi Ann)
  25.
  26. Rai sat quietly next to her mother, waiting to see if anything would happen
  27. (Rai Ann)
  28.
  29. Esme watched as Dylerun moved toward the front of the class, delivering an opening statement in hopes of separating any who may not be here in earnest.
  30.
  31. Though she did not look over her shoulder to spot anyone leaving, she did keep her ears open, curious to see if any had reconsidered. Though it seemed they where now a class, and all would remain.
  32.
  33. Returning her focus to her teacher, Esme pulls her seat in and holds her pencil close to the paper, ready to jot down anything she deemed as key information for later comprehension.
  34. (Esme Rowan)
  35.
  36. The boy would enter the school, it could be noted that he seemed a bit angry with something, and went directly to sit on the desk where no one was and then looking to make sure that no one was in front of him, nor behind, he had the whole thing for himself as he sat there just mumbling stuff and waiting for the teacher to start talking.
  37.
  38. ". . ."
  39. (Achilles)
  40.
  41. His smile was impossible to hide.
  42.
  43. "Yea. S'what I thought. Lets get down to the tacks then, shall we?"
  44.
  45. A hand would remove itself from his pocket, fingers beginning to stretch and move as he rotated his wrist. Around it, energy began to coalesce. Sickening, powerful, not unlike the feeling of necromancy. The same sensation of primordial wrong would begin to seep into the air, focusing itself around the aged Oscuri.
  46.
  47. "Riftmancy, as its called, is the art of opening and stepping through 'rifts'. A 'rift' is a tear within the lifestream, the substance that allows the worlds cycle to flow ever onward. Using raw mana, focus, skill and will, we use this dangerous and prophetic magic to punch a hole in it...and step through."
  48.
  49. Energy filled fingers would snap, and the sound was far louder than it should have been. Windows would rattle and a sound not unlike thunder striking would be heard as behind him, a tear would begin to form. It started small, a miniscule black dot that would begin to warp and shiver, growing like an all-encompasing maw. Behind him, the scenery of desk and school room would be covered by what one could describe as hell. A blackened wasteland, a landscape covered in ash. Far in the distance, fire could be seen spewing forth from some entity, its twisted head turning to notice the back of the Oscuri and the small classroom they sat in.
  50.
  51. "You can traverse Agartha with some few minutes focus and a step in. You and your allies can, with the blink of an eye, find themselves in a nearby settlement. A call for reinforcements, a dash against danger. A powerful user can even transcend this realm itself, breaking into the Spirit Realm and those beyond."
  52.
  53. A gesture as the entity would begin to zoom in. Like an encroaching mirror, the figure stalking closer towards the doorway.
  54.
  55. "And far be it from me to say, such an art is easily weaponized. Its said that Malentines bastardization is a good example. A door that allowed entities to spew forward, crushing an entire settlement. And within it, a mistake could be made just as easily. A gust of wind. A nudge from a friend. Oh, your concentration is broken, and-"
  56.
  57. Far larger than it appeared, a hand would creep through the large portal. Fingers like gnarled roots would reach towards the man, and in a sudden quickened instance the rift would slam shut. The sound of a fleshy impact could be heard as the hand bounced acrossed the floor, a discolored blood beginning to leak from the wound. Casually, Dylerun striding forward towards it.
  58.
  59. <fontcolor='#E6BE8A'>"Just as easily killing its user. The possibilities, applications, are endless in these regards. Simple travel is the barest. It is endless so long as you remain creative."
  60.
  61. "...It isn't too late to leave, if you've found yourselves yet."
  62. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  63.
  64. She would smile as the things hand was lopped off... She'd always wondered if that's what would happen... That was half of her goal at least.. Weaponizing it...
  65.
  66. The other... She's been rifting enough with Sors to know it's usefulness.. And the more people they have with it the better.. Her only thought at the moment.. Could her corrupted lightning be a catalyst for making rifts...? When they moved into practical application... Or even true practice theory she'd mention it... For now she was content to watch what the man had to say next...
  67.
  68. She puts a hand on her daughters shoulder... In case she was frightened by the display..
  69. (Jessi Ann)
  70.
  71. Hatsu had leaned forward along the desk, his attention easily acquired as his eyes give off a subtle intensity. When it came to the pursuit of knowledge, little else could derive a rise out of him. His typically disinterested gaze had vanished, replaced with an almost innocent desire to learn something new. Unfortunately, he was anything but innocent, and the crimes he's committed were best left buried in the past. He looks toward the future, and said future was learning how to further wrong this world they lived in. The rift that is ripped open causes him to sit forward slightly, his quill moving at extreme speeds as he had quickly became proficient at multi-tasking, and taking notes.
  72.
  73. Just like with other magics, the prowess and capabilities of rift magic were only limited by one's ability. The more creative you became, the more potential said magic had, in both power and application. As a massive set of fingers would begin to slip through the portal, his eyes would widen considerably, only to sit back to a degree.
  74.
  75. <font ize=small>"Nethradin." He whispers, though mostly to himself as the shock value still remained persistent. Even with this in mind, he doesn't hesitate to remain in place, as the pursuit of the unknown was always something he'd stake it all on.
  76. (Hatsu Wvelven)
  77.
  78. Rai stared determined at the hand laying on the floor. She was readying herself for whatever was to come next. The young girl was fully determened to at least attempt to use this strange but fascinating abillity.
  79.
  80. Before sunddenly stareing up at her mom, who just touched her. With a determined look on her face.
  81. (Rai Ann)
  82.
  83. An art that was hard to learn, harder to master, easy to use and easier to get himself killed while using it, that seemed about right, Achilles was no strange to those sorts of things, and knowing that he could use it to get even stronger? He would sign his name in blood right up if necessary.
  84.
  85. The mention of Malentine did bring a frown to his face thou, so many people talked about this corrupt, legendary and unseen being that the boy had not the pleasure to meet yet, but since he WAS a riftmancer, more reason too actually want to learn about it.
  86.
  87. "Well sign my name right up, all for the ability to punch holes that can take me somewhere else."
  88.
  89. He said with a chuckle, just the idea of having a new weapon to his already vast arsenal made the boy pumped to get some learning.
  90. (Achilles)
  91.
  92. Hatsu lightly rubs his brow.
  93.
  94. Did this kid even raise his hand? What an amateur.
  95. (Hatsu Wvelven)
  96.
  97. Dylerun ROLLS his eyes.
  98. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  99.
  100. Cho Grauhimmel has entered School of Necro/Riftmancy.
  101.
  102. "And you may find yourselves asking. How? How can I do that? How can such a thing be done? Its a simple philosiphy called the 'Three C's.'Confidence. Control. And finally, Concentration. Within this simple lesson, you will find these apply to all things in life. Not just Riftmancy. You could apply it to drawing a picture, courting a man or woman. Even in the midst of battle and chaos, where its most prominent."
  103.
  104. "Confidence. Not the foolish sort, that allows yourself to be beaten to a pulp, but the kind that gives you the will to act. Try, fail. You'll fail many, many times in this classroom. But if you've the confidence to continue, the resolve, then you can find yourself stronger than ever. This, perhaps, is the most important."
  105.
  106. "Control. There is nothing in life that is capable of telling you 'no'. You are the master of your own fate, your own destiny. You are the weavers and tellers of your own story, and there is nothing that can stop you."
  107.
  108. "Concentration. An iron will, a steel mind, and an unceasing urge to move ever forward will lead you to greater things. Meditate. Learn to clear your mind of distractions, and the world around you. There is a subtle point where you are here, and you are not, yet your magic is capable of greater things than your thoughts could ever think of. Thats where you must find yourself."
  109.
  110. "And that is where our first lesson brings us to the truest extent. Concentration. Concentration, and the subtle art of mana control."
  111.
  112. From his pockets, a variety of items would be procured. Each a small, unknown square of metal, carved with various runes that would be unknown to those before him. Each one gently set on their desks as he strode forward, making a route before looping back.
  113.
  114. "These will help with that. Riftmancy is about pushing your mana forward." His own hand would reach forward, like opening a door. "Through the lifestream to form your hole, or, 'rift'. This requires tremendous amounts of force using your mana. Its far, far, far from subtle. You're hardly threading a needle."
  115.
  116. "You're taking a sledge to the wall."
  117. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  118.
  119. Hatsu would finish up his series of notes as his eyes drift from his booklet and toward Dylerun. He was certainly capable of being an inspirational speaker when the time called for such, but his abilities had still been unknown to Hatsu. Evidently, he was an individual that had converted himself into an Oscuri, and by no means was that an easily accomplished task. His wisdom was apparent to the Wvelven, though bits of skepticism naturally creep into his mind. Not everyone was destined for greatness, and some more than others were able to have what the tools for success practically handed out to them. Others had to work from scratch to get where they wanted to be, and Hatsu was the latter half.
  120.
  121. As the carved block of metal is placed before him, he would not touch it outright. He studies it from afar, taking his time in inspecting its properties, while looking up to Dylerun. Opening a rift was very much so like ripping apart the lifestream, and forcing it to bend to one's will. Perhaps that was why Ohtli became so upset whenever it was mentioned.
  122. (Hatsu Wvelven)
  123.
  124. She would study the little square and the runes written upon it... How would this help..? As a runescribe she would at least make the attempt to decipher them...
  125.
  126. She holds her hand out and attracts the square to her palm.. altering the way gravity affects it..
  127.
  128. She would turn it over and study it even more in-depth look over..
  129.
  130. In case she would be tampering with things she shouldn't.. she dosent try to push mana into it... and awaits further instruction.. Hoping her daughter dosent try...
  131. (Jessi Ann)
  132.
  133. The boy would make notes of everything that Dylerun was talking about, he knew that Riftmancy was very dangerous, but the idea that he would have to learn how to control the three C's for everything in his life, maybe this class would help him in much more than just learning riftmancy, maybe he would get out of the school a better magi than before.
  134.
  135. As Achilles heard the thud of the square being put in his table the boy would start to study it, trying to understand what it was, being a school the thing would probably be something to help them train Riftmancy, but they all being initiates in this the runes might be something to help them on creating a rift, or allowing the item to pass through one without the need of a very stable tear in the life stream.
  136.
  137. So many questions and possibilities.
  138. (Achilles)
  139.
  140. Rai would lower her face down onto the desk, looking intensly into the small black cube. She was baffled by the runes written all over it. Unsure of what they ment or how they worked.
  141.
  142. She was thinking about putting mana in it for a while, the teacher did say this would help her control her mana. though, her mother wasent doing it so she just sat there patently waiting for someone else to take the first step.
  143. (Rai Ann)
  144.
  145. "This first lesson will bring two parts to you. The first, is the cube." He would bring out a replica, holding it in his fingers. "A focus. With this, you will push mana forward into it. The runes on it will begin to glow if it finds itself sustained enough mana, the flow strong enough. At this point, a constant glow will prove you are at least capable of opening a rift."
  146.
  147. Cube would be tossed into the air, before caught. Fingers would flex, and there would be a dull hum coming from the runes. A deep blue glow would begin to illuminate from its center, crawling acrossed the runes. Some few moments later and the hum was louder, and louder, vibrating in his hands as the glow intensified deep within before suddenly vanishing. Glow seeping away as the flow was cut.
  148.
  149. "It will take several weeks, if not months for you to manage to get enough strength and concentration to manage these runes to flash for several seconds. No, it isn't a challenge. Its a fact. And be lucky I give you something sustainable, because I did this with a piece of paper. The second part of this...is equally as difficult."
  150.
  151. A gentle tap to the side of his cranium.
  152.
  153. "Find yourselves a nook. A break in a grove of trees. An attic. A brook you played in as a child, or a small library. Commit it profusely to your memory. Every inch, every detail, every minute smell and sensation that it gives you. A place you know, prefer, works far better than an unknown. A good memory is key, essential. If you forget, if you misplace and find yourself rifting to an area you thought you knew and all of a sudden-"
  154.
  155. "Half of your body is within a wall. Then you're flung from it, injured, possibly, more likely dead. Even worse, you could find yourself within the void between the stars, thrown into the Spirit Realm, or your ass at the bottom of the ocean and your top half on your bed."
  156.
  157. "Confidence. Control. Concentration. See how it applies?"
  158. (Dylerun Grauhimmel)
  159.
  160. So.. She had to make the square glow..? She had not only her own mana to call upon... But the mana that she gained from her merging with the lightning sprit...
  161.
  162. However.. She would wait unless their teacher instructed otherwise...
  163.
  164. She already knew the place she would use.. Her study in her house... All the research time shes spent there... She knew where every paper... book... scroll.. all of them were...
  165.
  166. She would roll the cube about in her hand... Hm...
  167.
  168. She and Rai would practice together when they were home...
  169.
  170. "Aye Sir."
  171. (Jessi Ann)
  172.
  173. To make the cube glow was going to be his number one priority, he didn't know how much mana he needed to shove into it, but he knew that either that thing was gonna glow for him in record time or he would beat the crap out of the little square until it decided to glow on it's own.
  174.
  175. Easy enough..."
  176.
  177. The moment he stepped out of the house he would make sure to use all his energy into the cube and try to to get overwhelmed by the failures that he could get while trying.
  178. (Achilles)
  179.
  180. Hatsu would remain silent for the time being, though he appears to acknowledge the words of their elder. This would certainly not be an easy task, but he had opened the metaphorical gates of knowledge to allow others to tread into this art at their own pace. His lips gently purse together in thought, but he already knew that this would be a project that would need to have his full attention. Perhaps when he was done toiling away at Necromancy, then. He awaits to be dismissed, perhaps acutely aware of the fact that bashing his head against a metaphorical wall would not yield results, at the moment.
  181. (Hatsu Wvelven)
