  83. Backstory:
  84. Corliss wasn't ever anyone of any real importance. As a kid he always loved getting into trouble in his home town of Emberglow, even if that meant getting dragged back to his house by the Requiem Guard. But it wasnt his fault the black markets were so interesting! Especially when the Priestess of Besmara would tell him all about the wild adventures that her goddess got up in exchange for paying for her beer. Examples included beating a Hekatonkheires in an arm wrestling contest and drowning a Kraken. In hindsight she probably just wanted free beer. Either way he knew one thing, and that was that he wanted to be a pirate when he grew up. So he decided to join the Priestess as part of her crew once he was old enough. After laughing at him for about 20 minutes she realized he was serious and decided to let him on the crew. Unfortunately he was extremely low rank and mostly used to swab the deck and other menial tasks. During one of his shifts he noticed that the captain had dropped something, the one thing no self respecting pirate could possibly pass up. A treasure map. One stolen dinghy later he was on his way to a nearby island to claim the treasure and prove to his captain that he was worth something.
  85. What he wasnt prepared for however was all the traps. And all the ghosts. And all the lizard people. He wasnt prepared for a lot honestly. After being singed and scratched, but not beaten metaphorically, he finally made it to the treasure room. Mostly due to lots of running away. On the altar he found a relic of a bygone age, a lightning bolt given physical form by the now defunct Elemental Lord Rangiori. It's not like he's using it anymore. Happy to have finally found what he was looking for, something to make his captain proud of him, he reached out and took hold of the relic. The last thing he remembers is the smell of burning flesh and convulsing a lot as he blacked out.
  86. When he came to he found himself sitting at a dingy table on a ship with a woman in the fanciest pirate garb he had ever seen losing her mind with laughter. It took him a good few seconds before to even begin to be able to ask her what was so funny. As the woman was all too happy to tell him, he was nowhere near hardy enough to survive grabbing an artifact of lightning with his bare fucking hands, her words not his. It was around that time everything clicked. She was Besmara and he was dead, or at least pretty damn close. She narrowly managed to stop him from freaking the hell out by telling him he's not dead, he's just extremely comatose in an ancient ruin with no one coming for him. On the other hand however, she found his trip through it absolutely hilarious and respected that he didnt turn back at any point, so she struct him a deal. Become a priest of her's and the best damn pirate he can be and she'd send him back with a bit of a divine boost so he wont go into cardiac arrest next time he tried to use the thunderbolt. He agreed, because the alternative was dying.
  87. He found that when he woke up the lightning bolt was nowhere to be found and he was a fair bit stronger than he remembered. Unfortunately the goddess decided to leave him with a tattoo of her name in a rather unfortunate place as a parting gift. On the bright side when he was heading back through the temple he found out that he could summon the lightning bolt(or as he would find out it's called later, the Vajra) to help him not die horribly. And so, covered in cultist's blood he rowed his way back to the ship where his captain gave him the biggest chewing out of his life and kicked him off the ship for losing her the treasure. With some begging he managed to convince her to stop the boat and wait to do it until they got to shore in Emberglow. So with nothing but some Relics he stole alongside the Vajra and the money in his pocket, he set off to start a life of piracy! As soon as he figured out how to start his own crew. And where to get the money to buy a ship. But those are just details he'll need to figure out before he can be the Pirate Lord his Goddess wants him to be. Assuming she wasnt just bored and wanted to see what happened and wasnt just waiting to see how long it took for him to bite the big one. But what are the odds of that?
