- This is The Most Dangerous Walkway Ever Built. It’s Literally Insane.
- El Caminito del Rey or “The King’s Little Path” is considered as the most dangerous walkway in the world. This old walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Álora in the province of Málaga, Spain, was built in 1901 and was completed in 1905. 20 years later, it was named after Spanish King Alfonso XIII who crossed it. Since then it’s been called "The King’s Pathway."
- The 3 kilometer long walkway was built a hundred years ago to allow workers access two hydroelectric power plants at Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls. The walkway is closed to the public, but it has become a major attraction for thrill seekers particularly for hikers all over the world in recent years and it’s not because of it’s majestic mountain top views, but because of its history.
- People from all over the world have come to cross the pathway even though it could easily end their lives with just one misstep. It was opened to public for 70 years.
- The walkway is an extremely narrow, man-made walkway that rises 100 meters above the Guadalhorce river. At present, the path is already in pretty horrible shape. Some parts have collapsed creating large open air gaps that are bridged only by narrow steel beams or other support fixtures. Only few of the original handrails exist but a safety-wire runs the length of the path.
- In 1999 and 2000, several hikers were killed on the path, a reason why the Spanish government closed it. It's currently illegal to hike El Caminito del Rey, but it has been a destination for daredevils ever since. Videos appeared on YouTube in recent years showing walkers crossing the footpath with little safety equipment.
- This condition turned El Caminito del Rey into an extreme attraction and crossing the whole is an adventure sport for tourists.
- There have been several fatal accidents. But that didn’t stop daring hikers to get around the barriers and make their way across the gorge.
- So here’s a video that will surely make you a little queasy.
