  1. ---Stranded--1---------------------------
  2. "Aright guys, I have work tomorrow. Gotta go."
  3.
  4. >A few goodbyes came through the headset as you logged off of your computer.
  5. >It was... ten o` clock.
  6. >Your shift was early in the morning, so you were going to get a good night`s rest.
  7. >You drank some water, brushed your teeth, then headed to bed.
  8.
  9. >You laid there for a few minutes, just listening to the crickets chirping and cicadas humming.
  10. >The ambiance provided the perfect white noise, and it always lulled you to sleep.
  11. >Soon, you drifted off.
  12.
  13. >You heard something downstairs.
  14. >Fuck, probably your cat knocking something down.
  15. >What time was it now?
  16. >You leaned over with a bleary eyed gaze and checked the alarm clock.
  17. [| 12:47 |]
  18. >Ah, still plenty of time to sleep.
  19. >You had to get up at seven.
  20. >You laid back down and let your mind wander, gradually falling back asleep.
  21. >There was a slight creaking sound again.
  22.
  23. >"Loka! Are you in here?" Someone called out, sounding a bit worried.
  24.
  25. >Who the fuck?
  26. >Goddamnit, someone was in your house.
  27. >Granted, they were calling out to someone, maybe a sibling or child.
  28. >Come on though, they were in your fucking house.
  29. >You reached over and grabbed your pistol.
  30. >Oh, this trusty gun, how you loved it.
  31. >And if this turned out to be a really shitty burglar, you were going to use it.
  32. >Clumsily, you pulled on a pair of sweatpants.
  33. >You tried to move as quietly as possible down the stairs.
  34.
  35. >"If you`re in this place, please, answer me! This isn`t funny!"
  36.
  37. >That sounded like a woman.
  38. >Why would they be looking for someone in your house?
  39. >How the hell did they get in your house?
  40. >Once you had them at gunpoint, you`d ask.
  41. >You got downstairs without issue.
  42. >You peeked around the corner.
  43. >Nothing was out of place in the living room...
  44. >Except for the closet door.
  45. >Why was it open?
  46. >Well, everything was intact, so you moved on down the hall.
  47. >You heard a bit of shuffling in the laundry room.
  48. >There they were.
  49. >You tightened your grip on the pistol.
  50. >You flipped the lights on in the hallway and turned the corner into the room.
  51. >You heard and saw something dive into the broom closet.
  52. >Well, you had them cornered.
  53.
  54. "Hey. I know you're in there. Step out and keep your hands up."
  55.
  56. >No response.
  57. >Well, time to play hardball.
  58.
  59. "If you don`t get the fuck out of that closet, I`m gonna just shoot into it, okay? So please, do as I say and open the door... slowly."
  60.
  61. >This was stressful.
  62. >You heard a bit of movement from inside the closet.
  63. >They still didn`t open the damned door.
  64. >After waiting ten seconds, you walked over to the door and knocked, hard.
  65.
  66. "Last chance."
  67.
  68. >You heard... crying.
  69. >Like honest to Christ crying.
  70. >Why the fuck would a burglar be crying.
  71. >You grabbed the knob and slowly pulled the door open.
  72.
  73. >You did not expect this.
  74. >There was a... something in the closet.
  75. >Currently in the fetal position sobbing.
  76. >You were stunned, but did not lower your pistol.
  77. >It wasn`t human.
  78. >It looked like what you`d imagine a humanoid dragon would look like, though a bit... off.
  79. >They had horns almost like a cow or something, and small wings.
  80. >You noticed a tail curled around them, with rather sharp looking large scales in a row along the back.
  81. >It had sharp teeth and claws as well.
  82. >And yet they had blonde hair.
  83. >Glasses, a polo shirt, and a skirt too.
  84. >This... well, shouldn`t be possible, but there it was in all its glory.
  85. >You backed away a bit.
  86.
  87. >Was this an alien, monster, some cryptozoologist`s wet dream?
  88. >Whatever it was, it was in your house and didn`t have the courtesy to keep it down so you could sleep.
  89. >You were considering just calling 911 and letting the feds handle it.
  90. >But then you heard it speak up.
  91.
  92. >"Are you... a hu-human?" The thing said, looking like it could die of fright at any moment.
  93. >Its voice was not unlike a normal college girl, though a bit rougher sounding.
  94. >What kind of question was that though?
  95. >At least from her voice you knew for sure she was female, however much that mattered.
  96. >And you were the one with the gun, of course she should be afraid, because you`d blow her brains out if she pulled any shit.
  97.
  98. "Yeah, I am. Now I gotta ask, what the hell are you?"
  99.
  100. >The monster sat up, eyes red and voice shaky as its tail slowly unfurled from around itself.
  101. >"I`m... my n-name is Jennette."
  102. >Pretty normal name at least.
  103. >She took a few deep breaths.
  104. >"I am w-what you hum-m-ans would call a monst-ter."
  105. >Well, at least you knew what to call her.
  106. >You leaned against the washer.
  107.
  108. "Well, okay... what are you doing in my house, and who is this 'Loka' person you keep calling for?"
  109. >She broke out into tears again.
  110. >Fucking hell, you felt like an ass.
  111.
  112. "I`m not going to shoot you, okay?" You said, attempting to make your voice gentler.
  113. >She looked really fucking upset.
  114. >You waited for her to stop crying.
  115. >The gun wasn`t helping anything, so you stashed it in your back pocket barrel-first.
  116. >You kept your distance from her though.
  117.
  118. >She managed to regain some composure and start explaining herself again.
  119. >"L-loka is a friend of mine. I watched her leave through a b-broken door... and she hasn`t been back in a few days..."
  120. >The monster was actually searching for a friend of hers.
  121. >But what did she mean by a broken door?
  122.
  123. "Broken door?"
  124. >The draconic girl looked around like she was trying to hide something.
  125. >"We can use doors... no. I can`t say that to a human. I just can`t find her."
  126. >Her eyes shifted around, trying to avoid your gaze.
  127. >She was keeping something from you.
  128. >Maybe this wasn`t something you should get too involved in.
  129.
  130. "Well, if you don`t want me to help you, then I`m not gonna stop you from leaving. Front door`s right there."
  131. >You gestured towards the door.
  132. >She started to stand up.
  133. >Her legs seemed weak and she braced herself against the wall as she got up.
  134. >You readied the pistol again, just in case.
  135. >She was up and moving, slowly walking out of the room.
  136. >She didn`t turn towards the front door though, instead she went in the direction of the living room.
  137.
  138. "Hey, the front door`s there!"
  139. >Before you could finish the sentence though, she ran.
  140. >You heard her footsteps stop in the living room, and the closet door close.
  141. >You rushed in with the pistol at the ready, and stopped when you saw her.
  142. >She was on her knees, tears streaming down her face as she slowly opened and closed the closet door.
  143. >It was almost comical the way the door creaked.
  144.
  145. "Are you alright? Done running around?"
  146. >She stopped.
  147. >Got up.
  148. >And turned around.
  149. >"You sabotaged the door..."
  150. >Her eyes were caked with tears, but you could also see the animalistic fury within them.
  151. >Her tail whipped around, sending a magazine off of the coffee table.
  152. >The damn door was still moving and working fine though.
  153.
  154. "Do you think I want my closet door to be broken?"
  155. >She tilted her head at an odd angle as she shifted her stance.
  156. >"I`m trapped here... and you... you`re... you`re mocking me!"
  157. >Her anger seemed to make her ignore logic.
  158. >And now she looked like she was ready to fight.
  159.
  160. "Now, you need to stop. Right now. Think about what`s going on here."
  161. >But she was moving already, leaping towards you with those claws at the ready.
  162. >You sidestepped the attack and aimed the pistol somewhere that it wouldn`t be lethal.
  163. >She landed and then stumbled onto the floor.
  164. >As she recovered from the wipeout, you squeezed the trigger.
  165. >The shot opened a hole in her calf.
  166. >"Aigh! it hurts..."
  167. >She looked down at the wound, blood flowing down her ankle, and fainted.
  168. >That would leave a stain in the carpet.
  169.
  170. >You got your kit and got set to work on fixing the wound.
  171. >You needed her alive if she`s going to answer your questions.
  172. >Soon enough, her thigh was bandaged up and the bullet was on a small plate.
  173. >The bullet was damn near flattened.
  174. >It seemed that the round had encountered a massive amount of resistance on entering the wound.
  175. >Her scales were pretty fucking tough.
  176. >You would keep that in mind.
  177. >You managed to get a closer look at her while she was out.
  178. >She had one row of sharp incisors.
  179. >Her claws could easily glide through the gauze you used.
  180. >The tail`s spines were fake though, actually rather pliable.
  181. >She had no breasts, but that would be expected for a reptile.
  182. >You picked her up and set her down on the couch.
  183.
  184. >You were sitting in the armchair watching Netflix on your laptop when you heard her stirring.
  185. >You closed the computer and set it down on the table.
  186. >The pistol was in your hands again.
  187. >She opened her eyes, which were tearing up due to the pain, and looked at the bandage.
  188.
  189. "Are you gonna try to do that again?" You asked calmly. "Next time, I might aim somewhere important."
  190. >You still felt like a dick, but less so now due to her trying to hurt or kill you.
  191. >"You... didn`t kill me?"
  192.
  193. "Why would I do that, hmm? I have every right to, because you broke into my house. But, what I did was in self defense." You stated with a tinge of sarcasm in your voice.
  194. >"What did you hit me with? It... hurts. A lot."
  195. >She winced as she moved her leg.
  196.
  197. "It`s called a gun. And the average person here has one. Now, let me restate my question. What are you doing here and how did you get in?"
  198. >You wanted answers.
  199. >She looked at you and sat up.
  200. >"I came in through the door."
  201.
  202. "Alright smartass, now-"
  203. >"That door."
  204. >She pointed to the closet.
  205.
  206. "That`s a closet. Leads nowhere. I would know, I lived here for a good... six years.
  207. >She shrugged and gave you a irritated reply.
  208. >"If I explain everything to a human, then I would get in trouble with the law on my side of the line."
  209. >More cryptic shit.
  210. >She sighed.
  211. >"But, to get you off of my back... I`ll tell you a few things."
  212.
  213. >Well, you got some answers.
  214. >Jennette only explained that monsters could use doors to travel between places.
  215. >She came here looking for a friend named Loka.
  216. >Loka had gotten too curious and entered a door without realizing that it was malfunctioning.
  217. >Jennette had followed through the same door, but it had deposited her here.
  218. >And now she was stuck in this place.
