  1. Characters: Aliens
  2. Toydarians: A species of short aliens with blue skin, small wings, and vaguely avian features. Toydarians have stubby trunks that barely conceal stunted tusks, and their thin legs end in webbed feet. Male Toydarians, such as Watto, have visible whiskers. Although their wings appear frail, Toydarians can fly quite rapidly and prefer flight to walking. Toydarians are also impervious to Jedi mental powers, as Qui-Gon Jinn discovered when he attempted to use the Jedi mind trick on Watto.

  4. Main character biographies
  5. Anakin Skywalker
  6. Anakin Skywalker, son of Shmi Skywalker, has been a slave since birth. At some point, he became the property of Gardulla the Hutt on Tatooine. She later lost both the boy and his mother in a bet to a Toydarian merchant named Watto. Although strict, Watto is a better master than most slave owners and Anakin was allowed to indulge some of his hobbies while working for the Toydarian.
  7.
  8. From an early age, Anakin Skywalker has been mechanically-inclined. He has repaired and built many devices, including a fully-functioning protocol droid named C-3PO. He has also constructed an extremely fast Podracer from a variety of reclaimed parts. Watto also trusted Anakin to barter with Jawas for droids and other parts.
  9.
  10. Resourceful, intuitive, and competitive, Anakin is an excellent Podracer who won the Boonta Eve Classic. He is also compassionate: he once aided a wounded Tusken Raider, despite the danger, and entered the Boonta Eve Classic in the hopes of helping Qui-Gon, Padm, and Jar Jar.
  11.
  12. Anakin remained on Tatooine, living in Mos Espa's Slave Quarter, until he encountered Qui-Gon Jinn. The Jedi Master, sensing the boy's strong connection to the Force, had Anakin's blood tested. The test revealed that Anakin's midi-chlorian count is over 20,000, far above that of any Jedi, including Master Yoda. Qui-Gon eventually freed Anakin by placing a bet with Watto for the child's freedom. At nine, Anakin finally left Tatooine, although he found it difficult to leave his mother behind.
  13.
  14. C-3PO
  15. Anakin Skywalker devoted many long hours in Watto's junkyard scavenging for parts to build C-3PO. The droid's recycled structural framework is over eighty years old, but other components were built by Anakin himself. The original droid frame used as Threepio's foundation had damaged photoreceptors, which Anakin replaced with the ""eyes"" from a used droid in Watto's shop. Although C-3PO is largely complete, Anakin has been unable to give him a ""skin"" because droid plating is very expensive.
  16.
  17. Shmi Skywalker
  18. After being separated from her family at a very young age, Shmi endured the life of a slave. She was transferred between numerous owners, initially serving as a house servant. When she reached adulthood, Shmi was relegated to cleaning work.
  19.
  20. A few of her masters have shown Shmi some amount of kindness. A master named Pi-Lippa, for example, taught her various technical skills and promised to eventually free Shmi. Sadly, Pi-Lippa died before releasing her slave, and Shmi became the property of one of Pi-Lippa's relatives.
  21.
  22. Eventually, Shmi found herself and her child, Anakin, slaves to Gardulla the Hutt on Tatooine. Gardulla subsequently lost the pair to Watto as part of a Podrace bet. While still cruel and rough, Watto has allowed Shmi some amount of independence. When not working for the Toydarian, she is allowed to clean computer memory devices in order to earn a very modest income.
  23.
  24. Watto
  25. Anakin Skywalker's former master and a junk dealer on Tatooine. An inhabitant of Mos Espa, Watto is a Toydarian with small wings and a pudgy body. The blue-skinned being sells a wide range of machinery, and those who barter with him discover that he is a shrewd merchant. Watto's keen memory allows him to keep track of his extensive inventory, and his Toydarian mind prevents him from falling victim to Jedi mind powers. Greedy and immoral, Watto lost Anakin while betting on the Boonta Eve Podrace with Qui-Gon Jinn.
  26.
  27. Homeworld: Tatooine
  28. Species: Toydarian
  29. Height: 1.37 meters
  30. Occupation: Independent Mos Espa merchant
  31. Special Abilities: Unaffected by Jedi Mind Powers
  32.
  33. Behind the Scenes
  34. Terryl Whitlatch, a member of Episode I's art department, had a major role in designing Watto's appearance. She began with a ""portrait of an ugly, cherub-type thing with tiny wings."" Lucas then suggested that she incorporate webbed, duck-like feet into the creature.
  35.
  36. Like Jar Jar, Watto would ultimately take form through a detailed computer-generated model. However, on the set, actor Andy Secombe provided the character's voice and energy.
  37.
  38. Watto proved a difficult task for ILM's animators and modelers. Specifically, his trunk and large tusks proved troublesome when the ILM team attempted to create believable facial expressions and lip movements. In order to ensure audiences would be able to see Watto speaking, it was suggested that he talk out of one side of his mouth. But this only solved part of the problem, as Watto's tusks still obscured the lip movements. Finally, the digital artists actually broke one of Watto's tusks, which gave the character a unique appearance and improved ILM's ability to animate the merchant's mouth.
  39.
  40. Andrew Secombe provided Watto's voice and portrayed the character on set to provide lighting and eyeline reference.

  43. GLOSSARY
  44. C-3PO (See-Threepio):The talkative protocol droid built by Anakin Skywalker. Constructed from reclaimed parts, Threepio is programmed with a detailed knowledge of over five thousand droids. He is also fluent in several million forms of communication and can even converse with Tusken Raiders and Jawas. Although unfinished and little more than a collection of wires and circuitry, Threepio serves the Skywalkers faithfully. While on Tatooine, C-3PO encountered R2-D2, although neither droid realized their important roles in the coming galactic conflicts.
  45. Built by Anakin Skywalker, Threepio is an unfinished protocol droid. Padm gives Threepio his number 3 which is her favorite number. His body, legs and arms have no outer covering. [SW1S]
  46. Anakin has named C-3PO before the events of the film begin. He gives him the number 3 because Threepio is the third member of their family. Threepio accompanies Anakin on a trip into the Dune Sea to barter with Jawa traders on Wattos behalf. On the way back, they run into an injured Tusken Raider. Threepio is able to communicate with the Raider, in the Raiders language. Threepio has knowledge of some fifty-one hundred different varieties of droids. [SW1N]
  47. Some droids find their origins in the most humble and unexpected of places. Intended as a household servant, C-3PO (See-Threepio) was built in the Outer Rim world of Tatooine. This protocol droid is somewhat of a work in progress. With a mass of wires and circuitry weaving in and out of a humanoid frame, Threepio is an unfinished and unrefined human-cyborg relations droid. Thought he has speech capability, Threepio is not yet fully aware. For C-3PO, the adventure is just beginning. [INF]
  48. Displaying a high aptitude with technology, Anakin uses spare parts to construct a protocol droid named C-3PO. Anakin hopes the unfinished droid will help and watch over his mother after he leaves Tatooine. When C-3PO first meets the astromech R2-D2, neither droid has any idea that their destinies will one day become entwined.
  49. Standard Cybot Galactica protocol droids have been in use for generations. When Anakin Skywalker found the structural elements of a droid that had been scavenged for parts, he restored it as a helper for his mother. Over time, Anakin scrounged the parts to complete his droid, fabricating many components and wiring sets himself. Anakin's droid lacks a ""skin"" since usable droid plating is valuable and the boy cannot afford it. The hapless droid, which Anakin calls C-3PO, has yet to realize that all his parts are showing.
  50. While Anakin has tinkered with small devices for years, C-3PO is his first fully-functional droid. Building a droid, even from standardized components, can be a challenge.
  51. Most of C-3PO's structural framework is more than 80 years old.
  52. C-3PO's programming includes memory banks that he draws upon to design the racing graphics for the cockpit of Anakin's Podracer. When he works on Anakin's machine, Threepio teams up with his future counterpart, R2-D2, for the first time.
  53. The old droid frame Anakin started with had burned-out photorecptors. Anakin switched these for the eyes of a used droid bought by Watto, which can now barely see. Watto still hasn't figured out how the half-blind droid managed to walk into his shop in the first place.
  54.
  55. chance cube: A small die used by gamblers to settle bets. Half of the chance cube's sides are painted blue, while the remaining three faces are painted red. Watto always carries a loaded chance cube, which helps him win numerous bets. When Qui-Gon Jinn suggested that he and Watto include Anakin and Shmi Skywalker in their Podracing wager, Watto used the trick chance cube to determine which of his slaves would potentially be released. However, Qui-Gon used the Force to assure that the chance cube landed on blue, the color representing Anakin. When Anakin subsequently won the Boonta Eve Classic, Watto was forced to free the boy.
  56. A small white cube with sides turning either red or blue, throwing the cube can settle bets. Watto throws the cube to decide if his bet with Qui-Gon will include Anakin or Shmi. With Qui-Gon's help from the Force, the cube lands as blue, meaning Anakin is the slave who could be freed if Anakin wins the Podrace.
  57. Watto's chance cube is blue and red, not white as in the script.
  58.
  59. Dreddon the Hutt: A crimelord who sells arms throughout the Outer Rim. Watto once purchased a military surplus lot from Dreddon the Hutt. When Anakin Skywalker scoured the lot for parts, he discovered a set of Tyrian hydraulic struts for his Podracer.
  60.
  61. Gardulla the Hutt: An obese Hutt and crimelord living on Tatooine. One of Jabba the Hutt's peers, Gardulla once owned Shmi and Anakin Skywalker, but lost the two slaves to Watto while betting on Podraces. Like many Hutts, Gardulla is involved in a wide range of criminal activities. Gardulla also sponsors Podracers, including Gasgano. After the Boonta Eve Classic, Gardulla offered Watto a substantial sum to regain ownership of Anakin, but the Toydarian had already lost the boy to Qui-Gon Jinn.
  62. Gardulla lost Anakin to Watto when ANAKIN WAS THREE.
  63.
  64. grabworm: One of several predators inhabiting Toydarian muck lakes. Grabworms lunge from the mud to attack anything nearby. Toydarians avoid the grabworms by flying.
  65. Food-rich muck lakes of Watto's homeworld are filled with grabworms and other predators, making the ability to hover valuable for survival.
  66.
  67. Mochot Steep: A unique rock formation located in the Dune Sea. Shortly before Anakin met Qui-Gon Jinn, Watto sent the boy to Mochot Steep to barter with Jawas for droids.
  68. A singular rock formation about halfway across the Dune Sea. Anakin met with Jawas at Mochot Steep to barter for parts on Wattos behalf. [SW1N]
  69.
  70. Podracer, Anakin's: An extremely innovative Podracer, and the fastest vehicle at the Boonta Eve Classic. Anakin built his Podracer around a pair of sleek Radon-Ulzer 620C engines. Using reclaimed parts from Watto's junkyard, he then modified the vehicle considerably. The Podracer's air scoops, attached to the front of each engine, increase the vehicle's maneuverability, while multiple air brakes allow Anakin to make sudden stops and corner effectively. An inventive fuel atomizer and distribution system further increases the Podracer's performance.
  71. Artoo paints Anakins Podracer.
  72. Before the race begins, Sebulba bangs on a part protruding from Anakins engine. [SW1S]
  73. Like handlebars, Podracer thruster bars, when pushed forward (away from the driver) increase power to the Pod engines. Control cables run from the Pod to the engines and energy binders lock the engines to each other with bands of energy. Steelton control cables run from the Pod to the engines. Thermal varistats and thruster relays are parts in a Podracer. Anakins Pod was shaped like a narrow half-cylinder with a rudder-skid attached to its flat bottom, a cockpit carved into its curved top, and steering arms attached at its sides. Sleek Radon-Ulzer fighter engines with scoop-air stabilizers towed the Pod at the end of Steelton cables. [SW1N]
  74. Anakin accelerates his Pod by pshing his handlebars forward and slows it down by pulling back on the handlebars (aka thruster bars). An internal computer controls the rest of the movements. [NOTES]
  75. Resembling beast-drawn chariots from days of old, Podracers consist of small cockpits towed behind enormous jet engines. Anakin Skywalkers custom-built Podracer has a smooth contoured shape and two souped-up Radon-Ulzer Pod engines with scoop-air stabilizers. Multiple air brakes allow Anakin to slow down his hotrod in a hurry. [RPWW]
  76. Anakin made his engines from salvaged Radon-Ulzer racing engines that Watto regarded as too burned-out to be worth keeping track of. Anakin did a great deal of rewirng and rerouted the fuel distruction, adding a whole new subsystem that injects much more fuel throughout the combustion sequence to develop radically greater thrust. [DK]
  77. Most Podracers go for greater power through greater size, exploiting loopholes in the racing rules to enter larger and more powerful engines with tacked-on subsystems to increase their performance. Anakin's engines are remarkable in that he has derived incredible performance from engines smaller than everything else currently used. It all comes from his radical fuel atomizer and distribution system, with multiple igniters throughout the system to get maximum burn from every atom of fuel. In effect the whole engine is an afterburner once it gets going, but the system works on extremely delicate balanced and can be flooded with fuel if pushed befroe the engines are going full bore, as Anakin find out early on [DK]
  78. One of Anakin's cleverest engine modifications is the set of triple air scoops ranged around each primary turbine intake. These ""air brakes"" provide additional control in cornering. Anakin had to wait a long time before he found metal plates and a hydraulic system that would be strong enough to make this idea work. The hydraulic struts are of Tyrian manufacture and came from a military surplus that Watto brought from Dreddon the Hutt, a crimelord known to make many arms deals in the star systems of the Outer Rim.
  79. Fuel: Straight Tradium power fluid activated with injectrine, no additives
  80. Qui-Gon sells Anakins pod to Sebulba before departing Tatooine [DHTI]
  81.
  82. Republic credit: A type of currency used throughout the Republic. Republic credits are usually transferred via Republic credit chips, which have security codes and algorithm memory strips. Republic credits are often useless on non-Republic planets. Republic credits are also known as Republic dataries.
  83. In the rugged frontier of the Outer Rim, only hard currency counts. When Qui-Gon shows up hoping to pay with Republic credits, Watto only laughs
  84.
  85. Sith probe droid: A compact droid utilized by the Sith warrior Darth Maul to spy on his enemies. Sith probe droids are equipped with advanced sensors, powerful scanners, and miniature repulsorlift devices. The droids can also be outfitted with a number of weapons, which they unveil after ambushing their master's enemies. Easily controlled from afar by a wristband comlink, Sith probe droids are ideal for locating specific targets.
  86. Sith probe droid Darth Maul releases six football-sized probe droids toward Mos Espa in his search for the Jedi. He might release them by pushing buttons on his electronic armband. One probe droid sees Qui-Gon and Watto talking after the Boonta Eve Podrace.
  87.
  88. Skywalker, Anakin: The former slave who played a key role in the effort to free Naboo from the grip of the evil Trade Federation. Strongly attuned to the Force, Anakin has the ability to sense events before they happen. He also possesses an affinity for technology, and he is the only human capable of competing in the dangerous Tatooine Podraces. Relying on his quick reflexes and keen intuition, Anakin commandeered a Naboo starfighter at the Battle of Naboo. He then accidentally destroyed the Trade Federation's droid control ship, thus ending the illegal blockade of Naboo.
  89. Anakin thinks he arrived on Tatooine when he was three. He and his mother were sold to Gardulla the Hutt who then lost them to Watto, betting on the Podraces. Anakin is certain hes going to marry Padm. Anakin is very mechanical, and is making his own protocol droid (C-3PO) and is building a Podracer. Anakin speaks Basic and Huttese. He is also known as Annie. Like all slaves, Anakin has a transmitter placed inside his body somewhere. The transmitter is detonated if there is an escape. Anakin is the only human capable of racing Pods, although he has never won nor finished a race. Anakin does not have a father. Shmi cannot explain what happened she carried him and gave birth, but there was no father that she knows of. Anakin has the highest midi-chlorian count Qui-Gon has ever encountered in a life form. He tells the Jedi Council that it is possible Anakin was conceived by the midi-chlorians and that a vergence in the Force is located around him. Qui-Gon convinces the Jedi Council to test Anakin. After initial testing of Anakin Skywalker, the Council refuses to allow Qui-Gon to train him as a Jedi because he is too old and has too much anger in him. Yoda says the boys future is clouded and masked by his youth. Yoda finally decides that Anakins fate is to be decided later, after the crisis at Naboo has been settled. At that time, while the Council determines that Anakin can be trained by Obi-Wan, Yoda disagrees with the Councils decision. [SW1S]
  90. Anakin has raced in more than a half dozen races. He had crashed twice and failed to finish even once, prior to the events of SW1. Anakin is a small boy, compactly built, with a mop of sandy hair, blue eyes, a pug nose, and an inquisitive stare. Quick and strong for his age, and gifted with building skills that allow him to put together almost anything. He senses things before they happen and has an affinity for recognizing how things were or how they ought to be. He sees the world in ways most adults never would. Anakin is very good at bartering with the Jawas and Watto often sends him off to trade for parts. Unbeknownst to Watto, Anakin often takes Threepio with him. When Anakin meets Padm he announces that he is going to marry her. Anakins blood sample, taken by Qui-Gon and tested by Obi-Wan, reads at twenty thousand. Not even Master Yoda has a count that high. While the Jedi Council initially refuses to allow Qui-Gon to train Anakin, after Qui-Gons death they reconsider and do allow Obi-Wan to take Anakin on as his apprentice, although Yoda does not agree with the decision. Anakin dons the Jedi garb and has his hair cut short in the Padawan style. [SW1N]
  91. Anakin (1.35 meters tall) is a nine year old boy who has grown up as a slave on the desert planet of Tatooine. He possesses a maturity beyond his years, and is always eager to help those in need. Previously owned by Gardulla the Hutt, Anakin and his mother, Shmi, are now owned by the junk dealer Watto. As slaves they have a decent, if simple, life; but must live without knowing freedom. Though he appears to be a normal child with disheveled hair and blue eyes, Anakin is very special and gifted. His is incredibly strong with the Force, though he has never been made aware of his potential. He is also very adept with technology. Never far from a set of tools, he has secretly built his own custom Podracer, and is also skilled at building droids. With his natural reflexes and an eye for excitement, Anakin is a talented Podracer the only human in Mos Espa capable of flying one. He also proves to have the makings of an intuitive pilot. In this combination of caring boy and untapped talent, lie possibilities that stretch far beyond the binds of slavery. Anakin encounters Qui-Gon Jinn for the first time after Queen Amidalas spacecraft lands for repairs on Tatooine. Anakin has a special affection for the handmaiden Padm and also becomes fast friends with R2-D2 and Jar Jar Binks. [INF]
  92. Despite his status as a slave, young Anakin Skywalker enjoys a reputation in Mos Espa as the only human capable of flying a Podracer. His quick reflexes are matched by astonishing piloting skills beyond his years. After Queen Amidalas spacecraft lands for repairs on Tatooine, Anakins life is forever changed by a fateful meeting with Qui-Gon Jinn. [RPWHO]
  93. Gardulla lost Anakin to Watto when ANAKIN WAS THREE.
  94. When Anakin took a repaired Podracer for a test spin, Watto was furious, but he was also amazed at the boy's reflexes. Soon, the test drives turned into qualifying laps, and Anakin became a Podracer pilot despite his age.
  95.
  96. Skywalker, Shmi: Anakin Skywalker's loving mother. When Shmi was very young, her family was abducted by pirates who sold the girl into slavery. She endured a series of owners, and learned several skills, before becoming Watto's property. Shmi worked extremely hard to provide Anakin with a good life, despite their status as slaves. She understands that Anakin has special abilities and is grateful that Qui-Gon has ensured Anakin's freedom. Shmi also possesses a special connection to her son, allowing her to sense when he is nearby.
  97. Skywalker, Shmi Anakins mother, Shmi is forty years old, warm and friendly. Shmi knows that Anakin is a very special boy. Like all slaves, Anakin has a transmitter placed inside his body somewhere. The transmitter is detonated if there is an escape. [SW1S] A woman of forty, her long brown hair tied back from her worn face, her clothing rough and simple. Her smile was warm and youthful. [SW1N]
  98. A slave owned by the junk dealer Watto, Anakins mother Shmi Skywalker is bound, like all slaves, by an electronic implant that prevents escape. Hoping to free both Shmi and Anakin, Qui-Gon is only able to bargain Anakins freedom from Watto. Although Shmi is heartbroken to lose her son, she senses Anakins destiny is with the Jedi. [RPWHO]
  99. When pirates captured her parents during a space voyage in the Outer Rim, young Shmi Skywalker was sold into slavery and separated from her family. During a difficult childhood, Shmi was taken from one system to another by several masters of various species while serving as a house servant. When no longer a girl, Shmi was dropped from house servant status and forced into cleaning work. Although slavery is illegal in the Republic, laws do not reach all parts of the galaxy-and while inexpensive droids can perform menial tasks as well as humans, living slaves give great status and prestige to their owners.
  100. In spite of their poverty, Shmi works hard to make a good home for herserl and her son, Anakin. Her kitchin includes some labor-saving devices, but lacks the mor costly moisture-conserving domes and fields, which help save precious-and expensive-water.
  101. Tantalized several times by false possibilities of freedom, Shmi now accepts her life and finds joy in her son Anakin, whom she loves dearly. Shmi and Anakin live together in the Slave Quarter of Mos Espa, a collection of adobe hovels piled together at the edge of town.
  102. Cleans computer memory devices to bring in small income, when not working for Watto (he permits this) She keeps a small area in their home for tools and equipment. Most items she uses were given to her in recognition of her dependable service - Watto gave her an aeromagnifier
  103. Shmi learned technical skills under former master, Pi-Lippa, who planned to grant Shmi her freedom. However, when Pi-Lippa died, Shmi was sold to a relative.
  104. Shmi can always sense when Anakin is neary, even when she can't see or hear him.
  105.
  106. Toydarian:A species of short aliens with blue skin, small wings, and vaguely avian features.
  107. A species of being, blue with small wings and webbed feet, an elephant-like trunk. Watto is a Toydarian. Jedi mind powers do not work on Toydarians. [SW1S]
  108. Spongy, gas-filled tissues
  109. Three-fingered hands
  110. Flexible, trunlike nose
  111. Stubble
  112. Gas-filled belly
  113. webbed feet
  114. Food-rich muck lakes of Watto's homeworld are filled with grabworms and other predators, making the ability to hover valuable for survival. When a safe landing is assured, Toydarian webbed feet spread out to make walking over slushy algae mats easier.
  115. Wings can beat as fast as ten times a second, buring up huge reserves of energy. To fuel intesne body functions, the Toydarian eats concentrated foods and imported egg-seeds
  116. Toydarians who travel off-world sometimes take with them ""scenters"" to recreate the algae-mat ambiance of Toydarian lakes.
  117.
  118. Vomac: An Abyssin who worked at the Mos Espa Arena, where he encountered Watto shortly after the Toydarian lost his bet to Qui-Gon Jinn. Watto hired Vomac to corner Qui-Gon and retrieve Anakin Skywalker before the Jedi Master and the boy could escape Tatooine. Vomac and his cronies failed in this mission.
  119.
  120. Watto: Anakin Skywalker's former master and a junk dealer on Tatooine.
  121. Watto is a pudgy blue alien who flies on short little wings like a hummingbird. He speaks both Basic and Huttese and owns Anakin Skywalker and his mother Shmi. Watto is of the Toydarian species and Jedi mind powers do not work on him. [SW1S] Watto has three fingers on each hand. Skinny blue arms and rounded torso. [SW1N] Wattos chance cube is blue and red. [NOTES]
  122. On the remote desert world of Tatooine, mechanical parts and pieces are at a premium. Various beings make a living in the buying and selling of such wares. One such junk dealer in the city of Mos Espa is the nefarious Watto (.79 m without legs). A pudgy, blue Toydarian, Watto is an extremely shrewd trader. With a rotund body supported by rapid, leathery wings, his small size belies his demanding personality. If he loves one thing more than haggling, it is betting on the local Podraces. Watto is the owner of two slaves, Anakin and Shmi Skywalker, who he won from Gardulla the Hutt. Watto keeps well stocked on all manner of inventory, from pit droids to a T-14 hyperdrive generator. [INF]
  123. The Toydarian proprietor of a Mos Espa junk shop on the planet Tatooine, Watto is also an incorrigible gambler who enjoys wagering on high-speed Podraces. A bet with Gardulla the Hutt resulted in Wattos acquisition of the slaves Anakin and Shmi Skywalker. Much to Qui-Gon Jinns surprise and dismay, Toydarians are immune to Jedi mind tricks. [RPWHO]
  124. Spongy, gas-filled tissues
  125. Sharp eye for bargains, knows equipment and merchandise inside and out
  126. Loves gambling
  127. He's won many slaves from Hutts in the past
  128. Amazing memory allows him to keep track of merchandise in his head, but he also maintains accounting records in a special cipher using a sturdy datapad.
  129. Three-fingered hands
  130. Flexible, trunlike nose
  131. Stubble
  132. Gas-filled belly
  133. webbed feet
  134. Food-rich muck lakes of Watto's homeworld are filled with grabworms and other predators, making the ability to hover valuable for survival. When a safe landing is assured, Toydarian webbed feet spread out to make walking over slushy algae mats easier.
  135. Wings can beat as fast as ten times a second, buring up huge reserves of energy. To fuel intesne body functions, the Toydarian eats concentrated foods and imported egg-seeds
  136. Toydarians who travel off-world sometimes take with them ""scenters"" to recreate the algae-mat ambiance of Toydarian lakes.
  137. When he first settled on Tatooine, Watto hung out with Jawas, picking up stories and legends of great scrap finds in the desert, as well as crafty ways to sell faulty pit droids.
  138. A firm but fair master, Watto treats his slaves more decently than most.
  139.
  140. Watto's shop: A junkshop specializing in Podracer, starship, and engine components. Located in the merchant district of Mos Espa on Tatooine, Watto's shop is crammed full of droids and machine parts. The flying Toydarian and his two slaves, Anakin and Shmi Skywalker, are constantly restocking the adobe store. Behind the building is Watto's junkyard, which contains much larger items, including hyperdrive generators, Podracer engines, and landing gear.
  141. Watto's shop is in the merchant district of Mos Espa. It is a dingy mud and sand hut fronting an enclosure packed with rocket and engine parts. [SW1N]
  142. The merchant district of Mos Espa contains dozens of barter markets, including a dilapidated scrapheap owned by a winged Toydarian named Watto. Behind the shops adobe storefront lies a courtyard littered with mechanical parts everything from a case of spare astromech flywheels to a fully-functional T-14 hyperdrive unit. [RPWW]
