  1. -- resonateCranium [RC] began pestering zashchitnikNevinovnym [ZN] at 17:31 --
  2. [05:31] RC: {how are you doing this lovely green [afternoon]}
  3. [05:31] ZN: I can't complain, even if I wouldn't call it green. Yourself?
  4. [05:32] RC: {just playing some [rock music]}
  5. [05:32] ZN: Your people have rock music?
  6. [05:32] RC: {it's a [thing] yeah}
  7. [05:33] ZN: Interesting. It exists on my world as well.
  8. [05:33] RC: {the albums i have are apparently from [aliens] apparently}
  9. [05:33] ZN: Is that so?
  10. [05:33] ZN: Humans, by any chance?
  11. [05:33] RC: {ill show you the image}
  12. [05:34] RC: {[image] crap}
  13. [05:34] RC: { https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a0715404187_10.jpg}
  14. [05:34] ZN: Humans it is.
  15. [05:35] ZN: If I may ask.
  16. [05:35] RC: {yes?}
  17. [05:35] ZN: What's the purpose of wrapping certain words in square brackets?
  18. [05:35] ZN: Like [this]?
  19. [05:35] RC: {it's a [thing] i do}
  20. [05:35] ZN: For any reason?
  21. [05:35] ZN: Or is it akin to Chiota's "paws"?
  22. [05:36] RC: {you could say that yeah!}
  23. [05:36] ZN: Interesting.
  24. [05:36] RC: {but it just kinda makes me comfortable inside}
  25. [05:36] ZN: As opposed to happy.
  26. [05:36] RC: {sort of like [ocd] but to a weird extent}
  27. [05:37] ZN: That's reasonable. Lots of people have little rituals.
  28. [05:37] ZN: Though I admit, they don't often extend to typing.
  29. [05:37] RC: {i think a lot of us have these [quirks]}
  30. [05:37] ZN: Indeed, so it would seem.
  31. [05:37] ZN: Very interesting.
  32. [05:38] RC: {not like our little [group] of [friends], but us [obs] in general}
  33. [05:38] ZN: Ah. Interesting.
  34. [05:39] ZN: I assume your society tends to avoid commenting on what style makes individuals feel more comfortable, then.
  35. [05:39] RC: {like one of my [neighbors] had this [quirk] where he put [something] around [two asterisks] to emphasize [something]}
  36. [05:39] RC: {like **this**!}
  37. [05:39] ZN: Reasonable enough. I've seen it done before, online.
  38. [05:40] RC: {we [obs] are pretty comfortable with a lot of [stuff]}
  39. [05:40] ZN: Indeed. Such as reproductive methods.
  40. [05:40] RC: {leTS NOT TALK ABOUT THAT}
  41. [05:41] ZN: Of course.
  42. [05:41] RC: {honestly im still embarrassed from that}
  43. [05:41] ZN: Heh. Don't worry about it.
  44. [05:41] RC: {but yeah}
  45. [05:41] ZN: I heavily doubt I'll make it through this group without making some form of social faux pas of my own.
  46. [05:42] RC: {indeed [peter]}
  47. [05:42] RC: {indeed .-.}
  48. [05:42] ZN: .-.?
  49. [05:42] RC: {it's an [emote]}
  50. [05:43] RC: {i think even [humans] are supposed to know this}
  51. [05:43] ZN: Yes, but...
  52. [05:43] ZN: You said you were an objecthead, right?
  53. [05:43] RC: {correct}
  54. [05:44] ZN: Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but does that emote still make sense for a member of a race called Paraphernalia Homini?
  55. [05:44] RC: {of course it does!}
  56. [05:44] RC: {i would say that this [emote] is universal}
  57. [05:44] RC: {but what are we doing}
  58. [05:44] RC: {fussing over a small [emote]}
  59. [05:44] ZN: I suppose that's true.
  60. [05:45] ZN: Even if it is somewhat confusing to think of an alien race having similar societies, right down to emotes.
  61. [05:45] RC: {but yeah}
  62. [05:45] RC: {getting back on topic}
  63. [05:45] RC: {we're open about a lot of things}
  64. [05:46] RC: {[preference] of gender, for one [thing]}
  65. [05:46] RC: {what's that [word] you guys say}
  66. [05:46] RC: {[pansexual]?}
  67. [05:47] ZN: That's one word. There are quite a few applicable, for different orientations.
  68. [05:47] RC: {yeah [obs] are generally ok with that}
  69. [05:47] ZN: Humankind is... on its way there, I like to think.
  70. [05:48] ZN: We haven't quite made it yet, but will soon enough.
  71. [05:48] RC: {orientational [protest], huh}
  72. [05:49] RC: {its unheard of in our [society]}
  73. [05:49] RC: {be it that you like [guys], [girls], or [no one] at all, we're pretty ok with it}
  74. [05:49] RC: {we're ok with a lot of [things]}
  75. [05:49] ZN: That's good.
  76. [05:49] ZN: Very good.
  77. [05:50] RC: {what do you mean?}
  78. [05:50] ZN: Unfortunately, there are certain individuals and organizations in my homeworld that are not so open-minded.
  79. [05:50] RC: {that's pretty terrible to hear!}
  80. [05:50] ZN: Though I do firmly believe the numbers are ever-shrinking.
  81. [05:50] RC: {darn}
  82. [05:51] ZN: Darn?
  83. [05:51] RC: {it must be hard to live as a [human]}
  84. [05:51] ZN: Well, no.
  85. [05:51] ZN: I find it quite exciting, really.
  86. [05:52] ZN: As many problems as there are, there are also solutions in the near future or even the present.
  87. [05:52] RC: {to each to their own i guess :/}
  88. [05:52] ZN: Yes, we have bigots, but we also have those who would give their lives to help those in need.
  89. [05:53] ZN: I think I would rather be part of a species that rises above its own prejudice to do great things, than one that faces no difficulties.
  90. [05:53] RC: {i think you would do well as an [inspiration speaker]}
  91. [05:53] RC: {or a [politician] even!}
  92. [05:53] ZN: Thank you.
  93. [05:54] ZN: But no, I'm content with my training as-is.
  94. [05:54] RC: {just don't become a corrupt [one], we have plenty of those at our homeworld}
  95. [05:54] RC: {[training]?}
  96. [05:54] ZN: I hope to eventually become what we call a police officer. Does your world have those?
  97. [05:56] RC: {oh!}
  98. [05:56] RC: {yeah we have those}
  99. [05:56] ZN: That's good.
  100. [05:57] ZN: Someone to keep the peace, separate the innocent from those who would do them harm.
  101. [05:57] RC: {yeah}
  102. [05:57] RC: {it's nice to have some [rules] once in a while}
  103. [05:57] ZN: Once in a while?
  104. [05:57] RC: {well thats what my [mother] said}
  105. [05:58] ZN: Are there usually not rules?
  106. [05:58] RC: {oh no!}
  107. [05:59] RC: {if there weren't, this [race] of ours would have crumbled}
  108. [05:59] ZN: That's what I'm thinking.
  109. [05:59] ZN: So why are rules only for once in a while?
  110. [06:00] RC: {i just said that it's nice to have some [rules] once in a while}
  111. [06:00] RC: {it doesn't really necessarily apply to us [obs]}
  112. [06:00] ZN: Ah, of course. My mistake.
  113. [06:00] ZN: I suppose my eagerness to learn about your culture has left me making assumptions.
  114. [06:00] RC: {you know}
  115. [06:00] RC: {it's kinda uncanny how most of our [culture] overlaps with each other}
  116. [06:01] ZN: Indeed.
  117. [06:01] ZN: I suppose it's not impossible that the translation program is also capable of translating abstract concepts such as the nature of society.
  118. [06:02] RC: {pretty fascinating how it even translates our [alphabet]}
  119. [06:02] ZN: Your police officers could, for example, be more akin to human hall monitors than what we call them.
  120. [06:02] ZN: It is, yes.
  121. [06:02] ZN: An absolutely marvelous piece of software.
  122. [06:02] RC: { http://img00.deviantart.net/35aa/i/2015/016/e/6/nuzlocke_white__a_simple_guide_by_ky_nim-d8b9fes.png}
  123. [06:03] ZN: Is this your alphabet?
  124. [06:03] RC: {yeah}
  125. [06:03] ZN: Interesting.
  126. [06:03] ZN: And what about mine? Are my words still using the latin alphabet of Earth?
  127. [06:03] ZN: Rather...
  128. [06:04] RC: {no}
  129. [06:04] ZN: Does the letter L look like two lines making a right angle?
  130. [06:04] RC: {yes}
  131. [06:05] ZN: Fascinating.
  132. [06:05] RC: {we should really get [darwin] to look into this [program]}
  133. [06:05] ZN: Did Darwin not design it?
  134. [06:05] ZN: That was my impression.
  135. [06:06] RC: {i recall that she said that [someone] named [respectablyCarrots] made it}
  136. [06:06] ZN: That would be the chatting platform itself.
  137. [06:06] RC: {huh}
  138. [06:06] ZN: But the translator that allows it to reach alien worlds, such as yours or mine?
  139. [06:06] ZN: That was Darwin's.
  140. [06:07] RC: {ohhhhhhhhhh}
  141. [06:07] RC: {that makes sense}
  142. [06:08] ZN: Indeed.
  143. [06:08] ZN: Truly remarkable.
  144. [06:08] RC: {yeah}
  145. [06:08] ZN: The sheer amount of power that must be working to determine translation with no rosetta stone is just mind-boggling.
  146. [06:09] ZN: I can't think of any way it could work barring a means of tapping into a world's Internet and scanning millions of pages until it's capable of putting something together.
  147. [06:10] RC: {yeah}
  148. [06:10] ZN: In fact, perhaps it learns. Our earlier discussion, a lusus versus a parent, could be used to allow future versions of the program to make that fix automatically.
  149. [06:10] RC: {i mean if [someone] has a lot of [time]}
  150. [06:11] ZN: Indeed.
  151. [06:11] ZN: A lot of time, and a staggering amount of existing infrastructure to start with.
  152. [06:12] RC: {if i had pro computer [skills], i could do it, if only out of [wasting time]}
  153. [06:12] RC: {i have a lot of [time] really}
  154. [06:13] ZN: Heh. Understandable.
  155. [06:13] ZN: Why not learn?
  156. [06:13] RC: {probably just lack of [dedication]}
  157. [06:13] RC: {anyway i gotta go}
  158. [06:14] RC: {have to catch a [concert] right now}
  159. [06:14] ZN: Very well. I appreciate the chance to learn more about your society.
  160. [06:14] ZN: A musical concert?
  161. [06:14] RC: {some [band] called [corner of the universe]}
  162. [06:14] RC: {yeah it was nice that we talked about what we had}
  163. [06:15] ZN: Interesting. I hope you enjoy it.
  164. [06:15] RC: {anyway really gotta go}
  165. [06:15] RC: {thank you!}
  166. [06:15] ZN: Thank you again for the talk.
  167. [06:15] RC: {see ya!}
  168. [06:15] ZN: Goodbye.
