Limited ammunition is okay. Chainsaws are useful against larger bosses. But when you have superspeed and you can go full Kenshiro on demons... well. If I hadn't taken the Doom Slayer's place on that slab, it might have been worth teaching him how to pull the "omae wa mou shindeiru" bit on a mancubus.
