  1. In today's world, it is easy to lose sight of how complex modern issues may be. Tony Wilde's suggestion in his letter (End the Wars, Monday) to issue a full-scale retreat from the Middle East is an oversimplified solution to an overcomplicated problem. If we were to “bring our troops home” right now, it would have far-reaching ramifications.
  2. Our economy would wither even more as the millions of people employed in military occupations found themselves out of work. If every soldier qualified as a veteran at once, the drain on the government's veteran aid programs would be dire. The situation in Afghanistan would destabilize further as al-Qaeda set their sights on civilians instead of soldiers.
  3. Wilde implies that the struggle for democracy in Egypt and the struggle to end the war in Afghanistan are equivalent. Unfortunately, the latter cannot be fixed by civilian protest. We must have faith in our government to make the right decisions regarding foreign policy.
