Mass media
So, what is Mass media? Mass media is communication to a large group, or groups, of people in a short time. This can be written, spoken or broadcast communication. Some of the most popular forms of mass media today are newspapers, magazines, radio, advertisements, social media, television, Internet, and movies.
History
Some historians believe that medieval European cathedral architecture functioned as the first mass medium. It offered biblical stories and religious information (in paintings, sculpture etc.) to a large population.
The real mass media start with the Gutenburg printing press (in 1450). Printing spread information faster than anything before and introduced printing of newspapers and books. These were dominant until the invention of the telegraph. It was created by Samuel Morse in the 19th century and was the first means of electronic communication. It used a code, Morse Code, that used dots and dashes to spell out words. It was the first means of electronic communication.
Broadcast radio exploded onto the media scene in the 1920s. Radios were affordable
