  1. Pokemon Stadium 1 (Switch) GLC R1 FAQ:
  2.
  3. This game was released on the Switch NSO. It plays *way* faster on the Switch. It is considered an entirely different category.
  4.
  5. Q: How much faster is it?
  6. A: I can't say exactly, because I haven't done extensive testing or runs. Even if I had there isn't an exact answer, because the reason it's faster is because there's less lag - and the amount of 'lag' each run varies based on outcomes.
  7. From my short testing though, on average battles are about 8% faster (some more or less depending on how much lag there would be). Over the course of this run, that would mean it might be roughly 7-8 minutes faster. Of course this is just an estimate, it could be a bit lower or higher than this, and the exact value would never be static anyway (since it's variable every run based on what transpires)
  8.
  9. Q: Is there team manip in this game like Stadium 2?
  10. A: No, at least not yet. The teams are made in a more complex/correct way in Stadium 1 compared to Stadium 2 (somehow...), so figuring it out is harder, as is exploiting it. So for now, and perhaps forever, it's just, dunno, spam Thunder anyway.

  14.
  15. Q: Why are you using <pokemon>? Why not <other pokemon>?
  16. A: Because the restrictions in running this game involve only using rental Pokemon (as otherwise it would be incredibly easy and not at all challenging). In Stadium 1 a fair few evolved Pokes have good moves (Legendary Birds and Jolteon get a lot of useage, for example), but sometimes a lesser Pokemon is used for a better movepool (Eg Abra is used for highest special Psychic, which Kadabra/Alakazam do not have)
  17.
  18. Q: What is this category?
  19. A: This is the Gym Leader Castle, specifically Round 1. So basically beat everyone in there. They can be done in any order (so long as Elite Four is last), so I start with some of the better fights to get out of the way early. (GLC R1 stands for Gym Leader Castle, Round 1)
  20.
  21. Q: Why is the order scrambled like that?
  22. A: It's allowed because doing it from a fresh file would be really annoying to reset the save data for (given you'd have to remake the teams every reset as well), so it's stupid to not allow play on a completed save. And since that's allowed, no reason to restrict order either. Elite Four still must be done last because timing ends during the cutscene after that battle (would be slower to not do him last because of that anyway).
  23.
  24. As such, I fight the gyms in reverse order, as they are progressively difficult, so I get the harder ones out of the way this way.
  25.
  26. Q: Why does that gym leader have a Pokemon that isn't of their type??
  27. A: Because if every leader had only their type, all these fights would be easy. Though some of them actually do do that because Round 1 in Stadium 1 is actually fairly easy, and there are less Pokemon to choose between.
  28.
  29. Q: Why is that Pokemon coloured differently?
  30. A: Giving Pokemon nicknames in the Stadium games changes their colouration, so you can see some cool and different looking Pokes.
  31.
  32. Q: What is the record?
  33. A: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnstadium?h=Gym_Leader_Castle_Round_1-SwitchVC-ENG&x=7dg9nxk4-2lg10p7l.10vv63pl-ylq00z8r.4lxg874q
  34.
  35. Q: So what's your goal?
  36. A: Might be sub 1:30 I guess.
  37.
  38. Q: Does this game have the Gen 1 1/256 miss?
  39. A: No, it does not. However, it instead has a 1/65536 chance to miss! Because all they did was re-roll the accuracy check once if it happened to roll the 1/256 miss.
  40. Stadium changed a few mechanics from the handheld Gen 1 games (for example, switching after Wrap/Fire Spin means the other Pokemon won't attack, so you don't get stuck forever, Hyper Beam needs recharge), and the removal of the 1/256 is one of them.
  41. (Oddly enough though, the 1/256 to not crit even with 100% chance still does exist)
  42.
  43. Crit mechanics are also slightly different. See this spreadsheet for specifics: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lab4RC9Ngt3x1Eb7qOMYvLtqhKIekOVPmv4eaiyc4nY
  44.
  45. Q: What does "Round 2" or "Round 1" mean in this game?
  46. A: This game repeats itself over, after you beat Round 1 of the game you unlock Round 2. Round 2 gives the opponent different pokes, with different moves, and better stats. It is in general, much much harder.
  47.
  48. Q: What is with those split icons? What does A and B mean?
  49. A: This is a grading system for all of my splits. I'm sure you are familiar with grades, A+ being the best then going down from there. So the idea is, if the split has an A+ next to it, my time there was really good and would be very difficult to beat. If it's a C though for example, it was quite poor, and I should be able to save time there pretty easily.
  50.
  51. This way, everyone watching has more accurate information on where I can save time, and where I should be making up time. Also that all time loss is not equal, as losing time vs an A+ split isn't really that bad, whereas losing time vs a C split is really bad. It'll probably take a while for a lot of people watching to pick up the meaning so I will appreciate everyone who explains how this works (correctly) in chat to new people.
