Correction: Kanto reboot was technically mixed of a "moving on" a sequel a remake because Kanto Red's lore was still unclear and outdated.

1# You can't use 'that' argument because canonically red never faced gold. Because you were playing as gold. And I’m sure when you played against red as gold you lost more than once. Also Kanto and johto share the same elite four so red is/was champion of Kanto AND Johto. Proof for this is you can’t enter Mt. Silver until you’ve beaten both regions. And since you encounter red at Mt. Silver he clearly has. Also beating red in SM doesn’t count either for the same reason gold doesn’t count, as you are the one playing sun/moon. They never fought canonically.

1# Also they are not canon battles because again, you are playing him. Meaning there are a shit ton of factors that could change on your part. You could have different Pokémon. Your team could be high level or low.

Bad Facts:
He was nerfed in alola.
He was downplayed because of unrealistic gamemechanics, anime logics and biased opinions.
He's red eyes are fanmade because he's made of red colour.
Gold didn't beat Red YOU the player beat Red i believe that if you are playing with Red against Gold you will be able to beat him. You might realize Red WAS always an extra boss / final boss on many gens including Stadium 1/2 version, in other words a game feature.

In My Opinion:
He just keeps getting better.
He has great popularity of nostalgia.
He has very interesting history and mystery to Pokemon verse.
