4.
5. So, one of my favorite places in the Jak and Daxter universe are the three Sentinels on Sentinel Beach. They're my favorite because I'm an anthropology student, and when I'm playing this game I often like to spend hours studying the architectural side of the game, which may sound weird but it's actually a great way to beat boredom in college. Anyways, through my extensive BSing around the game world, I've noticed that the Sentinels DO NOT BELONG. And from now on in this discussion I will be going whole hog on the anthropological side of this, as if the Sentinels belong in a real world with real history then in a game world (which is why the title of this says "A Speculation").
6.
7. The architectural style is reminiscent of Marian era stonework, which is typified as being grey or beige bricks decorated with Precursor letters, motifs of Precursor robots, and the Seal of Mar. A primitive usage of Precursor technology can often be seen in some buildings, such as the colored platforms in Mar's Tomb and the eco vents in the Monk Temple. Statues typically adorn most of the Marian buildings, from giant renderings of Mar and other great warriors, to the life-size figures of the Precursors in the Monk Temple.
8.
9. But there are several inconsistencies between normal Marian stonework and the Sentinels. First of all, they do not contain any writing or statues, only a small repeating band of Precursor robot motifs around the base and on the arch at the top. Secondly, and crucially, they do not feature the Seal of Mar anywhere, nor does this symbol appear anywhere in TPL. Which ties into the third reason: we know that Mar came AFTER the Sentinels were built, based upon the fractured timeline given in the game. So, that strikes out the most obvious candidate.
10.
11. The Sentinels appear to be a very early or very late form of Precursor handiwork, because even though the Sentinels are not made of the coppery metal that typifies their architecture, they do share some key similarities. Firstly, the Sentinels use a lot of curving shapes, from the archway to the support column, and to the rounded pedestals on either corner of the structure. And here's the biggie: the Sentinels appear to be Precursor sphinxes. The front of the buildings are most definitely styled after Precursor robots: they have the same bug-eyes, the same elongated cranium, and the same lengthy snout. Past this heavily recognizable surface, the head slopes down to a large platform in the rear, which make up a reclining back. And then we get back to the four circular pedestals, buried shallowly at each corner of each Sentinel. These are the paws, hands or feet of the giant stone sphinx. But the Sentinels' shape and stonework are so unique in the Precursor world that they couldn't have been built during the golden age when everything was made of Precursor metal. They must have been created in a time in which the Precursor's didn't have knowledge to the metal (unlikely, given that they built the world the Sentinels stand on out of metal), or at a time when their civilization on the planet was falling (a distinct possibility).
12.
13. But there is another possibility: the Sentinels were an early religious center for the humans that followed the Precursors. They certainly would've drawn inspiration from the relics the "gods" left behind, and I'm sure built their own ceremonial complexes to honor the Precursors. The Sentinels may be evidence of such a mystical past.
14.
15. But, what were the Sentinels used for? Well, I've come up with a theory. Aside from being religious centers, they were also tombs. The easternmost Sentinel, which lies in ruins, gives us a good look at the interior. We see a hollowed out space behind the "snout" column that is blocked by a semi-circle protrusion on the other two Sentinels (an obvious door, and on the eastern Sentinel it's lying half-buried in the sand). Two small platforms inside could easily house the remains of a pair of people, perhaps a king and queen or other important figures. The Sentinels also seem to be aligned in such a way that the two main stars always rises through the archway of the center Sentinel. If the developers of the game had more memory space to utilize in the game, they may have come across the idea of having seasons. In which case, the three Sentinels could've marked the passage of spring, summer, autumn and winter.
16.
17. Well, this is my nice long theory/speculation as to what the Sentinels are, why they exist, and who may have built them. Looking forward to comments and counter-arguments!

26. I found this challenge back in 2013 on GameFAQs http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/jak_and_daxter_no_orb.txt. The goal is to collect as many power cells in TPL as possible without picking up a single orb. Because of this 15 cells are impossible to get because you need orbs to buy them off of people. The author of the Challenge claims that 10 more cells are impossible to reach. They are:
27.
28. Find the Blue Eco Switch
29.
30. Defeat the Dark Eco Plant
31.
32. Raise the Chamber
33.
34. Navigate the Blue Precursor Rings
35.
36. Break the Third Tether
37.
38. Shoot the Gnawing Lurkers
39.
40. Disable the Precursor Barriers
41.
42. Free the Blue Sage
43.
44. Free the Green Sage
45.
46. Free 7 Scout Flies (Gol and Maia's Citadel)
47.
48. I've managed to collect "Find the Blue Eco Switch", "Defeat the Dark Eco Plant", and "Navigate the Blue Precursor Rings." The last three on the list I attempted to get by using the glitch where you save and reload your game after talking to Samos at the beginning of the Citadel, but it turns out this glitch cannot be used in the Jak and Daxter Collection. I also coundn't figure out how to get "Climb the Giant Robot," despite the fact it is considered attainable in the Challenge guide.
49.
50. Well, the first two on the list are located in the Forbidden Temple ("Find the Blue Eco Switch" and "Defeat the Dark Eco Plant"). These two are simple to gain, but you have to use a clever glitch to keep them without getting any orbs. I figured out that if you save your game halfway up the tube (after fighting the Plant Boss), just before you gain any of the orbs hovering above the exit, your game will reload you back to the beginning area of the Forbidden Jungle, with two extra power cells and no orbs.
51.
52. The third power cell is the "Navigate the Blue Precursor Rings." I came back to this one because, after failing to obtain the power cell in Spider Caves that I needed to move on to the Lava Tube, I figured I was good enough to try this one. And, after three hours of game time, I finally did get it. The secret is this: when you are coming up to that narrow platform filled with orbs, you need to hit the accelerator. Aim for the space between orb #3 and orb #4, but be careful: go too slow and you will be forced into orb #4, go to fast you will go over the edge. Once you are safely between (and not carrying) the two orbs, slowly turn to left, hug the platform's right edge until about orb #6 and then jump to where the platform is more open and orbless to hit the next blue ring. After that it's a cakewalk for the next couple of rings (just make sure you don't land on one of those all metal boxes after you jump for the last ring: that happened to me twice!).
53.
54. I believe the other 7 power cells are attainable by using glitches and clever back-roads through the graphics, but I have yet to test these theories. "Shoot the Gnawing Lurkers" Cell always lands on an Orb, no matter what you try. The three cells in the Citadel should be attainable using the Green Sage glitch (my PS2 is canked, so I can't actually test that theory). I've also seen a video of glitch that uses the Flut-Flut's jump slam to reach the part of Boggy Swamp with the ambush. I figure if you can get there, you should be able to reach the 3rd tether using the same tactic. Three of the Precursor Barriers in the Snowy Mountains contain orbs above them, but you might be able to carefully land on a pillar without picking up an orb. I have no ideas for "Raise the Chamber," but this is only because I haven't given it much thought.
55.
56. So 79 Power Cells are confirmed to be collectable in the No Orb Challenge. Does anybody have any ideas on how to obtain the other 7?--Suzukiano (talk) 21:55, August 5, 2015 (UTC)
57.
58. Shooting the gnawing lurkers shouldn't be that hard right? --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 22:20, August 5, 2015 (UTC)
59.
60. No, the Gnawing Lurkers are really easy to take care of. But the Power Cell that is spat out of the central pillar will always land on a Precursor Orb. I've tried getting the Cell by slowly moving towards it from the side facing away from the Orb, but no matter what when you collect the Cell you will always, without fail, grab an Orb.--Suzukiano (talk) 01:18, August 6, 2015 (UTC)
61.
62. :This is possible, people do speedruns of this too. -- Thaswordster 11:14, August 10, 2015 (UTC)
63.
64. The others then, I can understand why the last four won't work. The Precursor blockers all have orbs on-top and you can't deactivate them without touching them. The blue sage requires blue eco and we all know how that goes with orbs. The last two can't be done without the third last one for obvious reasons.
65.
66. So that leaves Raise the chamber and Break the third tether. The first one seems obvious, either it's not doable to reach the chamber without touching an orb midway or the blue eco at the end ensures you will grab an orb when trying to active the generators, though I wonder if there's no orb-less route to take, but maybe that takes too much time?
67.
68. The tether one... had to look it up, but upon seeing a row of orbs on-top of a launcher I got the point, hah. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 23:10, August 7, 2015 (UTC)
69.
70. Yeah, that is a slight problem. Do you have any ideas for the Lucky-7, Light Daxter? --Suzukiano (talk) 01:18, August 8, 2015 (UTC)
71.
72. Well... On the Raise the chamber mission, from the vid I saw there's three orbs next to each of the generators on the upper ring, but they're between the platforms used to climb up to said ring and each generator. I however saw a blue eco vent next to a lower single platform on the outer wall, with a generator on it. Might it not be doable to climb this one and then jump for the upper ring? The issue is whether or not the orbs will be drawn in when touching those two generators. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 08:11, August 8, 2015 (UTC)
73.
74. Yeah, that might work! --Suzukiano (talk) 17:12, August 8, 2015 (UTC)
75.
76. :Find the Blue Eco Switch, Defeat the Dark Eco Plant and Raise the Chamber are possible using glitched movement. People also do speedruns of this. Completing the game with 0 orbs is impossible in the HD remasters. -- Thaswordster 11:14, August 10, 2015 (UTC)
77.
78. How does one use a glitch to get "Raise the Chamber?" I mean, the other two are confirmably obtainable through a save-reload glitch that I described above, but it would seem that "Raise the Chamber" would best be obtained by channeling blue eco to the ball mechanisms very carefully. So, could you please describe the glitch please, so we can all test it? Also, it has already been established that one cannot obtain 3 Cells in the Citadel or defeat the Robot in the HD Collection, as mentioned above. --Suzukiano (talk) 18:59, August 10, 2015 (UTC)
79.
80. :I myself don't know how to do it, but some people do know and they can tell you. It involves going out of bounds, zoom-walking and doing a boosted uppercut and touching the sell, then doing reload right after getting the cell and tada. -- Thaswordster 03:12, August 11, 2015 (UTC)
81.
82. Hello! I just happened upon this thread now and thought I'd chip in.
83. Every cell except for the ones that require orbs to buy, the gnawing lurkers in Spider Cave, and the precursor blockers in Snowy Mountain are possible to get. I've managed to get the two blockers in the snowball section without picking up the orbs, by using a glitch to temporarily remove the orbs and make them reappear again later, but I haven't been able to get the blocker at the very start of the level. The Spider Cave one has no known method of being obtained because the power cell appears on top of an orb. Gol and Maia's Citadel can only be completed on the original black label copy.
84. If you have any questions about how to get a specific cell then let me know. I have a save file on my memory card with all other power cells obtained, and I can remember how to get them all. Blahpy (talk) 10:34, January 1, 2016 (UTC)

107.
108. Okay, back to the original topic. "Raise the Chamber" cannot be accessed by moving carefully around the orbs, so a glitch will have to be utilized. Also, a new glitch has caught my attention. Some kid on Youtube claims he has figured out a way to use the Flut-Flut in the entire game, as shown here: . It requires a PS2, and mine no longer works, so if somebody could please investigate this further and post new video here. If we can use the Flut-Flut everywhere, than the No Orb Challenge will be a (bleep) of a lot easier! And funner! 113.
114. Maybe so, but the kid claims that if you get to the entrance of the Mountain Pass the game will continue to load. I didn't give up on the Jak 3 Wasteland Easter Egg because I thought it was BS. I tested the theory, and it was wrong, as I suspected. Trial and error will determine the BS factor in the game, not intuition. Besides, I've managed to get Daxter out of Mar's Tomb and into Haven City once in a glitch (by accident, still not sure how I did it, and I haven't replicated it yet), and it only froze when I got too close to the Dead Town entrance, so the fact that Snowy Mountain unloads itself that causes a freeze may not be the case. It could simply be a fail safe mechanism, or a system overload as it struggles to readapt the scene into one playable with the Flut-Flut. Someone should at least try. Suzukiano (talk) 02:07, January 4, 2016 (UTC)
115.
116. :It's not intuition, I've tried it, and so have tens of my friends who have also researched this game in-depth. Feel free to try it yourself. The Mar's Tomb thing is interesting. I thought the door is locked during that mission. I would assume that you somehow managed to load the "ghost city" where there are no vehicles or pedestrians, and Mar's Tomb is still loaded? If not, you may have found something new. Blahpy (talk) 02:13, January 4, 2016 (UTC)
117.
118. Yes, it was the glitch city. I don't know how I accessed it. I got past the spider, but rather than load back to Jak I remained Daxter, stuck in the Boss Area. I restarted the mission and ended up as Daxter at the Tomb Entrance, rode the elevator up and entered the ghost city. I don't know this happened, but keep in mind this disc was severely damaged by my sister, to the point where I couldn't visit the many parts of the Water Slums on it, so that may have had something to do with it. As for the Flut-Flut glitch, you apparently need to open up the tray in order for it to work, and land at the Pass entrance. I know the glitch in general, but I've never tried it with the tray open. And again, I can't try it, because my PS2 broke years ago. Only on the PS3 can I try anything new. I still think that the game glitching with the Flut-Flut or Daxter or whatever is a fail-safe that ND put in, however, no matter if we can figure out a way past it or not. Lastly, I will attempt the "Raise the Chamber" as soon as my knuckle isn't broken (typing with one hand is a beach!) 120. Jak and Daxter discussion
121. <!-- PUT ALL MESSAGES BELOW THIS LINE -->
122. I've heard a lot of stories and rumors about this so called Easter Egg located in the Northernmost section of the Wasteland in Jak 3. Apparently there is a structure somewhere within that part of the game that you must use a combination of the Dune Hopper, Unlimited Light Flight, and Super Nova to get to. The trick is to high jump your way to an invisible ledge above the structure in the Dune Hopper, then to get out and Light Flight your way up to another invisible ledge. This apparently leads the way to a narrow tunnel with a cracked wall at the end. Sources say you need to use the Super Nova to bust down the wall. After the wall is a cavern with Precurian writing listing all of the developers of the game and a massive Precursor Orb worth 300 Orbs.
123.
124. Now, firstly, such a structure in the northern section of Wasteland just doesn't exist. I suppose they mean the Sentinel looking structures (there are five of them) at the Southeasternmost point of the main island, on the way to the Monk Temple. I assume this for two reasons. 1), it is possible to reach a set of cavelike structures in the mountian behind two of these things, as I have seen it in a video and managed to do it myself (which only requires Unlimited Light Flight). 2), one of the people who says that the've found the cave entrance (but they couldn't get inside) has alleged that the structure is near the Leaper Lizard Coral (they state that it is "to the left of", but from which angle is "left" they never specify). Most of the people who state they have gotten to the tunnel that leads to the cavern say they couldn't get past the cracked wall in the way, but could only look through the crack to see yellowish light emanating from within. My question for them is, if they made it this far, why not Light Flight yourself around the wall? Or, why don't you try to Dark Blast your way through the crack if the Super Nova doesn't seem to work? The short conclusion of all of these failures is a tad bit suspicious to me.
125.
126. Next, we have the official reaction by Naughty Dog. Several people say that Naughty Dog backs up the existence of this Easter Egg, but most others say that the developers deny it. Odd, but if your trying to play someone into thinking this thing exists, than an "official" agreement by the creators is a good way to spread a lie. I've tried contacting Naughty Dog to find more information, but all I got was a "Thank you for your interest in Naught Dog and our products, etc." glib.
127.
128. The final nail on the coffin for this Easter Egg is the fact that there are absolutely no photographs or videos of this location or the route to get to there. Combine that with a nonexistent structure, verbal accounts that contradict one another or are entirely inaccurate (including Naughty Dog's apparent support/denial of the thing), has led me to believe this so called Easter Egg is nothing but a myth.
129.
130. And yet, so many people say they have found this strange location. The best documented case is made by CDwaver on the site link, which I have sited earlier to some extent. So even though I don't believe it exists, I shall spend a little while trying to search for it. I will video tape my exploits, to show proof of it's existence/nonexistence. I think others should search for it as well, but please don't put your hopes and dreams into it if you do, because it most likely (99.9%) will result in a flop even after a hundred people with a hundred games take a hundred years to try to find it.--Suzukiano (talk) 07:14, July 18, 2015 (UTC)
131.
132. I remember this rumor from way back, but only vaguely. Obviously sounds like one of those fake stories gone out of control, though I still do wonder what the purpose (if any) of those stone doors was. p.s. the link won't work. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 08:04, July 18, 2015 (UTC)
133.
134. Yeah, behind the two Sentinel-like buildings to the East is a cavern and cave system, but I've never checked the area behind the other three to the West. If it is anywhere, it would be behind these things. Also, I don't know why the link doesn't work, but if you just highlight it from "community" to the "36516657" and then copy and paste it onto a new tab it'll work. Anyways, other than the five Sentinels to the Southeast, I can't think of any "building-like structures" (keeping in mind that it must be built into a mountainside in order to house such a massive cavern), except perhaps buildings in Spargus (which will be inaccessible to the Dune Hopper regardless). Can anybody else think of places that this mystery location could possible be? --Suzukiano (talk) 21:25, July 18, 2015 (UTC)
135.
136. I'm going to stick with the 'it's not real' theory. p.s. I fixed your link. Would like an image of that cave system though, since unless it's the MH cave or part of the Monk Temple, it might be something else? Regardless a good screenshot of it would be really cool. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 22:11, July 18, 2015 (UTC)
137.
138. Even better. Here's a video. While trying to light flight my way into the mountian, my game super glitched, leaving the Sentinels and thousands of other in-game details unloaded, including the ability to travel through any mountainside with ease. Not really sure how or why, but quite useful (my Dune Hopper is still stuck on the "steps" of the Sentinel). Oops...well, I had a video, but it seems to think it's an illegal format. Oh well, heres a few snapshots of my endeavor.
139.
140. Light Daxter, how do I upload Windows Media Player files unto the forums? The video is a lot more telling than these three images.--Suzukiano (talk) 22:56, July 18, 2015 (UTC)
141.
142. I get the gist of it, seems like you just glitched through the wall and are now looking at the mountains' innards. 144. While I wait for the YouTube video to finish creating itself, I'll show you all a map of the Wastleland with certain areas of interest highlighted:
145.
146. The area highlighted in red represents the "Northernmost Area of the Wasteland," the supposed location of the Easter Egg. I have been here many times, and all there is past the cliffside is water, no tunnels, caves or caverns. The green area is based on the description found on the PlayStation forums (see link by me in an early post above), but this is merely described as "possibly left of the leaper lizard coral pin," and there is no definitive angle from which this is supposedly "left of." I have never tried to explore the green area, but I plan to do so while I continue to wait for my video to upload on YouTube.
147.
148. The blue area is the part of the mountains behind the Wasteland Sentinels (from here on out that is what I will call the tomb-like stone monuments to the Southeast, do to their resemblance to the Sentinels found in TPL). Of all of the objects in the Wasteland, these best match the description of a "building-like structure." Behind the Sentinels lies a vast and complex cave system, only accessible by Unlimited Light Flighting your way past them (although once inside your game will glitch, giving you the ability to go through any of the mountains in the Wasteland). I have known about this area for years, but upon doing a recent survey of the area, have found no evidence of the Easter Egg.--Suzukiano (talk) 00:20, July 19, 2015 (UTC)
149.
150. I have finished the initial exploration of all 10 mountains. I have found nothing out of the ordinary (except the weird terrain of being "outside" the graphics). I can conclude that the Easter Egg is not in any of the mountains. But there is still one last place that it might be. The "Northernmost" part of the Wasteland (not including Spargus) turns out to be a thin cliff-like peninsula running from the end of Spargus' Wall to the North-Northeast of the map. There are many ledges that you can stand on, and it is possible to get the Dune Hopper up on some of the ledges. Exploring it with Unlimited Light Flight is surprisingly difficult, and after getting past a few invisible barriers it seems that it would be easier to explore on foot. After about ten minutes scoping around I accidentally fell into the sea and got grabbed by the Giant Octopus, after which I turned off my system and started typing this. But interestingly enough this location, although I would've figured would be too narrow for a significant chamber to be located, seems to match the descriptions of most of the accounts. The "building-like structure" might actually be a (very bad) description of where the Spargus Wall meets up with this thin line of cliffs.

152. I have also emailed CDwaver, asking him to put a circle on a Wasteland Map as to where one can find the Easter Egg. While my hopes are low, I can't help thinking the Easter Egg in Haven Port was once upon a time thought to be nothing but a myth, but is now a cold hard fact of the game. Although I doubt there are any Precursor Orbs in the fabled chamber, the idea of having a list of the developers' names on the wall does sound realistic, especially seeing as how they managed to sneak a photograph of themselves into another part of the game. Oh, and my video is at 41% as of now (is YouTube always this slow to upload videos? It's not even five minutes long!)--Suzukiano (talk) 02:08, July 19, 2015 (UTC)
153.
154. Perseverance is a good trait I guess, good luck with your hunt. And that one easter egg in the Port was a lot less troublesome to find. Regarding the vid, maybe your upload rate is low or the vid is really huge and uncompressed. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 10:38, July 19, 2015 (UTC)
155.
156. After about a week of searching, I have determined that no such Easter Egg, as it is described, exists in the Wasteland. This Easter Egg, as I believed when I went on a quest to find it, is a hoax. There's nothing beyond the graphics of the Wasteland except invisible barriers and 2-D shapes. Even the somewhat promising thin cliff peninsula turned up nothing. I still have not received an email back from CDwaver, but until I do I will not be revisiting this feather-brained myth.--Suzukiano (talk) 23:20, July 21, 2015 (UTC)
157.
158. I do suppose I'm glad someone bothered looking for it. It's the only real myth the series ever had right? Aside from that silly (fake) secret Gol bossfight in TLF when you get all orbs in hero mode. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 00:03, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
159.
160. I have decided to return my attention to looking for this fabled Easter Egg. It's been a couple of years since my last attempt to locate it, but I now have access to a PlayStation 2, and can test all of this on my original black-label copy. Before now I've using the HD Collection. Suzukiano (talk) 07:56, March 24, 2018 (UTC)

162. Just use freecam on PCSX2 or that recently found out debug mode in the console version and just fly up there without any hassle. --<font color=darkorange>Light Daxter</font><small> - <font color=black>Talk</font></small> 10:05, March 24, 2018 (UTC)
