  1. i haven't thought up a full background for revonazhe yet, but there are a few ground truths i know, i will post them here and later begin adding stuff to the actual ingame note thing on the nation page
  2.
  3. fun fact 1
  4.
  5. the revonazh language and latin alphabet are utterly unsuited to each other, but due to nebulous reasons nobody can quite remember after several centuries and only a hundred years of widespread literacy at all, the latin alphabet is the only one in use to such a point that nobody even remembers what the traditional one looked like
  6.
  7. as a result, written revonazh falls somewhere between czech/hungarian and vietnamese for "fucking stupid amount of accented letters", averaging approx. one accent every second or third letter. it also features polish-style bizarro ligatures, except there's no consistency at all and it's not rare to see a ligature and an accent that represents said ligature in the same fucking word
  8.
  9. in short, it's fucking retarded and arcane and it's a wonder revonazhe's literacy rate is in the double digits at all, let alone over 98%, although standard spelling exists in name only (much like english during its more formative years)
  10.
  11. fun fact 2
  12.
  13. pr revonazhe was formed after a violent and passionate revolution only the french could possibly upstage, including a period of widely-approved public beheadings. revonazhe itself was formerly something akin to the late austro-hungarian empire and the various ethnic groups were absolutely jack of the shitty monarchy and incompetent aristocracy. said ethnic groups have not had the nicest past together, but revonazhe's revolutionary leader was a tito figure who basically dickslapped nationalism out of existence and so as long as the country doesn't experience any violent shocks, like, say, its terrible economy getting even worse or its ideological foundation crumbling in neighbouring states, it is likely to remain Brotherly and Unified

  24. JUBE MASTER: nobody even knows why it exists
  25. JUBE MASTER: it's just there
  26. JUBE MASTER: and it pads out words randomly, adding a letter for literally no gain
  27. JUBE MASTER: and the more prevailing accents/dialects will be very noticeably on the way to creating more silent letters
  28. capitalism was a mistake: imply that if anyone who doesn't use it
  29. capitalism was a mistake: despite it being nothing

  67. REVONAZH ARMY MOBILISES
  68. By military correspondent Aršàńe Ženģ
  69.
  70. In response to the growing unrest to its west, the young People's Republic of Revonazhe has mobilised both its professional military and its largely-conscripted Territorial Defence forces, stationing much of its strength along its southwestern border. Although the mountainous nation is relatively small in terms of population, its enthusiastic adoption of national service has ensured it has no shortage of troops; all citizens are required to serve two years in the military between the ages of 18 and 38. The Territorial Defence are primarily trained to fight from the nation's many natural caves and purpose-built bunker systems, and the harsh realities of Revonazh topography have often been cited as at least as much of a deterrent as the military itself.
  71.
  72. The government has declined to comment on whether rumours of Revonazh advisors trickling into the Commonwealth of Toil are true, though it is an open secret that the Revonazhe people look upon their neighbours favourably; one commonly-used shorthand name for the nation is derived from the Revonazh word for 'brother'. Modern Revonazhe's own birth from a violent and passionate revolution is thought to have bolstered this sentiment strongly.

  78. While Revonazhe's military has been complaining for some time about outdated equipment, it is believed that they are relatively well-trained for an army of their size and the Territorial Defence are given special instruction in unconventional warfare.

  82. AJNR Stands Down Following Western Flare-Up
  83. Reporting by military correspondent Aršàńe Ženģ (via Còsj Ŗevŏńazhė)
  84. Following the sudden easing of tensions between the Commonwealth of Toil and the Federal Republic of Virtuea, the Revonazhe United Army (AJNR) has recalled its regular formations from the western border regions. In a demonstration that it is capable of demobilising just as disturbingly quickly as it can mobilise, the AJNR is already settling back into a peacetime footing, and those on the immediate recall list - including any volunteer soldiers who discharged from the army less than two years ago - have returned to their families and their workplaces. Military brass are said to be very pleased with the overall speed and smooth execution of the mobilisation; it has often been cited as one area where the Revonazh military leads the region, and possibly the world.
  85.
  86. Much less impressive has been the Revonazh response to the Dacjan situation. Although the government nominally supports the Armed Republic of Central Dasch, it denies any knowledge of material aid and has not been particularly active in advocating for the Armed Republic's cause. In fact, it has not been particularly active in the wider geopolitical scene at all during this latest crisis; rumours abound of critical shortages in more regional provinces, and it is thought that the government is preoccupied with trying to jump-start the relatively moribund economy. In a statement made for the press earlier, one government spokesperson stated that, "We [...] are aware of the situation, and are naturally concerned by it. However, we do not expect this conflict to impact too greatly on Revonazh life, except those items imported from or through the affected area. Our borders are secure, and there is no reason to believe they [the various Dacjan factions] pose any threat or harbour any particular ill will towards our great nation."

  100. Foreign Spy Ring Caught In Revonazhe
  101. Reporting by political correspondent Cšujė Pirikòvańjė (via Còsj Ŗevŏńazhė)
  102. In a startling development, a speaker for Revonazhe's counterintelligence directorate has announced the arrests of several suspected foreign agents. While the responsible nation has not yet been named - probably out of diplomatic necessity - it is believed that the would-be infiltrators were brought unstuck by a simple discussion over coffee.
  103.
  104. Revonazhe speak a wide variety of dialects, with countless regional accents. Two people from just a few hundred kilometres away may struggle to understand each other at times. However, there is one thing that is common to all the naturalised citizens of the nation: they know not to forget the letter Ġ. It is an important, integral part of many words, and Revonazhe from all walks of life have long repudiated the foreign claim that "[a word featuring the letter] sounds exactly the same without it". It seems this latest episode may serve to support this rejection.
  105.
  106. According to official sources, a woman who had recently transferred to a sensitive position in the diplomatic service was invited to coffee by coworkers. The conversation was just like any other, skirting around a range of topics. Finally, though, it turned to the best way to enjoy that most popular of winter dishes: Žàrėme Hoŭlġaszj. The suspect presumably felt that because the letter cannot be heard, she did not need to include it. She was wrong, as the transgression was immediately noted and later passed on to the counterintelligence directorate's Linguistics Study Board. By questioning the woman's known associates, several more suspects were unearthed and arrested, all brought to heel by the same mistake.
  107.
  108. The original suspect is expected to stand trial late in February next year. Her accomplices are still being questioned.

  112. Ŗevŏńazhė takes a leading role in new pact
  113. Reporting by political correspondent Cšujė Pirikòvańjė (via Còsj Ŗevŏńazhė)
  114. With the growing political divide between the nations of the world, many smaller socialist- and communist-leaning states have become apprehensive of their neighbours. Ŗevŏńazhė is no exception, as the recent strife to its west and the constant demonstrations of force by the larger capitalist powers cannot go unnoticed, even deep in the Ŗevŏńazh highlands. During a recent summit focusing on regional security, the Ŗevŏńazh delegation provided an alternative to more isolationist courses of action, suggesting that a mutual defensive and economic body be formed.
  115.
  116. "Individually, we can only hope to defend ourselves against so much," spokesman Pjòńė Nàđelnjė told the press gallery, following the third day of talks. "By uniting together in solidarity with our brothers across the land and across the seas, we can show that an attack against one of us is an attack against us all. If the forces of imperialism dare tread onto the people's land, then all the people of our great nations will join together in the struggle and throw them back!"
  117.
  118. Spokesman Nàđelnjė also denied that the suggestion of an economic union was simply a ploy to try and offset Ŗevŏńazhė's struggling economy and relatively poor infrastructure, particularly after heavy rains in the eastern province of Řadělņjė Sţuk caused several major towns to be without basic services for three days. "An economic union will benefit all of us, not just one or two nations. This is not like those capitalist so-called 'free trade agreements', where even as you shake hands on the deal, the other is clutching a knife behind your back.
  119.
  120. "This is the best way forwards, and I am confident that we have made our case strongly enough to see it carried into policy across the continent and beyond."
