He in turn rushed to attack the king,
And he struck him violently
High up on the shield
So that the boss was split
And the beautifully ornate mail
Was broken into a thousand pieces.
The blade came down with mighty force
Between the saddlebow and the king:
The paddings and all the trappings
He cut off cleanly
And the good horse likewise,
So that the king was thrown
Down between the two pieces.
However, he jumped quickly back to his feet;
He was not lacking weapons
