- >It's mid-day, your crew grows restless as you near the cursed island of the Sirens.
- >As the island draws closer, you begin hearing the hypnotic melody of the Sirens gain in volume.
- "Cover your ears men! Don't let the song draw yo. . " you begins saying before you stop in your tracks.
- >Turning away from your men, you are able to see the Sirens sitting on a rock upon their island.
- >Staring at the women, you hear a change overtake their melodic chants.
- >A screeching that pierces your skull, starting off soft, before gaining in volume ripping you from the world you were currently in.
- >7 a.m.
- >Your alarm wakes you from your dream with it's incessant screeches, before you slam your hand down on the snooze button.
- >Sitting up in your bed you rub the sleep from your eyes as you remember the dream you just woke from.
- >Shrugging it off as just you remembering something from school, you go through you morning routine before packing your bag and leaving.
- >On your way across the courtyard, you bump into Twilight as she exits the female dorms.
- >"Oh, good morning. Are you ready for the surprise Mr. Discord said he was bringing in for today?" she asks with a smile on her face.
- >Sighing, you stretch a bit and turn to her.
- "I don't know, Mr. Discord is kinda crazy. I mean what kind of surprise could an English teacher have?" you retort.
- >"Well, I wouldn't say he is crazy. Chaotic maybe, but not crazy. But still, even if he is crazy, wouldn't that mean the surprise could be anything?" she says with a small smile.
- "True, what do you think he is going to bring to class today?" you ask as the two of you enter the building the classroom is in.
- >"We will see in a few minutes won't we?" she says as the two of you enter the class, and take your seats.
- >As she said, a few minutes later, Mr. Discord comes strutting as he always does.
- >When he reaches his desk, he picks up a piece of chalk and turns around.
- >"As some of you remember, I have quite the surprise in store for all of you today. Everyone grab your things, we are going on a little adventure." he says with a sly smile.
- >People look around as if he just grew another head.
- >"You heard me, grab your things and follow me." he says dropping the chalk and walking out of the class.
- >Twilight looks at you with a smile that is screaming "I told you so.", and picks up her things and follows him.
- >Picking up your bag, you follow Twilight and Mr. Discord.
- >You eventually catch up with them outside of a classroom with a sign on it.
- >Reading the sign, reveals a warning, telling students and faculty to stay out.
- >You're about to say something to Mr. Discord, but a voice from behind you stops you in your tracks.
- >"Well, I think we all knew Ms. Teacher's pet would be here." the voice says causing you turn around.
- >Turning around reveals the three people you wish had just gone back to the dorms.
- >"But Adagio, we're here as well, does that make us the teacher's pets as well?" Sonata asks.
- >"That would involve the teacher liking you. Which no one does." Aria retorts.
- >Adagio audibly sighs as Mr. Discord speaks up.
- >"Ladies, the more the better. We will be needing quite a few people for this." he says, removing the sign and opening the door.
- >The six of you enter the room, revealing a rather large case of some sort in the corner, with around 20 or so helmet looking devices around it.
- >You all place your bags on the floor and approach the devices.
- >"I had these special ordered with Principle Celestia's approval." Mr. Discord says, as he sets up a computer on the main desk.
- "What are they? They look like football helmets." you ask inquisitively.
- >With a smile Mr. Discord comes over and presses a button on the case.
- >Humming to life, a red light appears on the front and you hear a voice.
- >"Hello students. What book shall we explore today?" The voice says.
- >"This is the V.L.A. Visual Learning Assitant. It is the latest in reading technology. Say goodbye to your tablets and audio-books." He says, as if trying to sell it to the group.
- >Twilight's eye light up when she hears this.
- >"I've only heard rumours about this. It's rumoured to be able to send you into a book." she says nearly drooling over it.
- "What do you mean 'send you into a book'? Like let you watch a book like a movie?" you ask Twilight.
- >"Oh heavens no. It actually puts you in the place of the character." she says grinning ear to ear.
- "Only someone who reads as many books as you would be interested in that." you say, teasing her.
- >"He's right Twilight, you are probably the biggest nerd here." Adagio says with a smirk.
- >"Really? A nerd? Is that the best you come up with?" Twilight snaps at her.
- >"Ladies, please. Settle this in the book. Now if you would all take... it would seem we have another participant." Mr. Discord says as he moves to the door, opening it.
- >You see a pink haired girl stumble and fall into the class with a "meep".
- >Looking at Twilight, you ask her what everyone was thinking.
- "Did she just meep?"
- >Looking to the girl you recognize her almost immediately.
- "Fluttershy? What are you doing here?" you ask her, as Mr. Discord helps her up.
- >She looks over to you, her face slightly pink before going bright red.
- >"Um, I-i was just passing by between classes." She says, staring at her feet.
- >"Well then why not join us?" Twilight says, patting the seat between you and her.
- >"I-i don't know. I have class in a few minutes, and I would hate to miss the class." she says holding onto her arm.
- >"I can help with that. What class do you have?" Mr. Discord asks her.
- >As Mr. Discord helps Fluttershy, you hear Adagio, Aria and Sonata talking behind you.
- >"Hmm. This could be the perfect time to cause some chaos." Adagio whispers to the others.
- >"What's the point? News flash Adagio, no powers." Aria says, obviously annoyed.
- >"You don't know that. At least two of these girls have had contact with Equestrian magic." Adagio says before realizing you can hear.
- >As soon as she looks at you, you quickly look at Mr. Discord who is returning to the circle with Fluttershy.
- >"Good news everyone. I have successfully convinced Fluttershy's teacher to allow her to join us." He says, motioning for her to sit next to you.
- >Before she sits, she looks over to Adagio and the others before quickly moving to the other side of Twilight so as not to make eye contact with the others.
- >"Well then. Shall we get started?" Mr. Discord says with a smile.
- >Without waiting for his say so, Twilight immediately picks her helmet up and places it on her head.
- >"Someone is eager to start. Well? Everyone else may join her." He says, giving the green light.
- >Slightly nervous, you pick the helmet up and observe it.
- >The entire helmet is a black plastic, with a black visor, and the similar shape of a football helmet.
- >Looking inside of it reveals a complex series of circuits all along the underside, with foam along the inside for the wearer's head.
- >Shaking off the little bit of fear you had, you place the helmet on your head.
- >As you do, your senses are completely cut off, and your vision replaced with a green text with the letters VLA in the middle.
- >It doesn't take long before this is replaced with a list of book titles.
- >One title sticks out to you, as it is highlighted.
- >The Odyssey, by Homer.
- >Your vision once again fades to black, before opening up to a massive building.
- >One by one people begin appearing before you.
- >As soon as everyone is there, Mr. Discord's voice, seeming to come from all around you, speaks up.
- >"Welcome my students, to The Odyssey. Soon a tablet shall appear before you. You will be using this to choose your roles. Choose carefully, for once you choose you may not change your mind." He says.
- >Not soon after, what appears to be an Ipad appears, hovering in front of you.
- >Grabbing yours, you scroll through the names before picking the random male character choice.
- >As you submit it, the tablet disappears.
- >Once everyone has chosen, Mr. Discord speaks up once again.
- >"Well, well. It would appear we have Odysseus among us."
- >Looking around you realize everyone is slowly changing.
- >Taking a look towards Twilight and Fluttershy, you notice Fluttershy's clothing change from her modern clothes, to what you would describe as red robes, with a white and gold belt just bellow her breasts.
- >"Nausicaa Fluttershy? That actually fits you perfectly." Twilight says, smiling at her.
- >"I-i figured it would be best if I chose a role that was out of the way." She says twirling the ends of the belt, blushing.
- >Turning your attention to Twilight's costume, you are met with an awe inspiring sight.
- >Wearing a full white robe, she is wearing what appears to be a solid gold chest plate, and trojan helmet.
- >In one hand she is wielding a large spear and a gold and silver shield in the other.
- >Not knowing what to say, you stare at her, awe-struck by the majesty of her outfit.
- >"Oh? I see you've chosen Athena Twilight. But you are missing something." Mr. Discord says.
- >"Am I? It looks pretty accurate." Twilight says to the sky.
- >"Aha. What would Athena be without her trusted Owl?" He says.
- >Just as he finishes, an owl swoops down, landing on Twilight shoulder.
- >You laugh as Twilight jumps, taken aback by suddenly having an owl on her shoulder.
- >Remembering the Adagio, and her friends, you look to where they were.
- >Not seeing them you hear Mr. Discord once again.
- >"Ah ah ah. I can't have the hero knowing everything, now can I?"
- "The hero? Why would I be the hero?" You ask Mr. Discord.
- >"Well. You are the only male here at the moment, and we need someone to hold the staring role."
- >Sighing, you look at your own clothing.
- >You're dressed in a simple leather cuirass, with a matching leather skirt over cloth pants.
- >A set of matching spaulders and knee length boots adorn your shoulders and feet respectively.
- >"Now then, if everyone is done admiring themselves. Shall we begin?" Mr. Discord says.
- >As he finishes speaking, you vision is once again darkened, and you feel yourself being pulled forward.
- >When the pulling sensation subsides, a blinding light fills your sight.
- >Covering your eyes until they adjust, you look around as you do.
- >You have been transported to what appears to be a tent with a cloth liner on the ground.
- >Looking towards the source of the light, you see a soldier standing at the opening.
- >"Sir, the men have finished preparations for the return home. We are prepared to leave on your command." the soldier says.
- >Unsure of what to say, you nod at the man, as he leaves.
- >Standing up, you poke your head out of the tent to see soldiers loading twelve ships with supplies.
- >Thinking back to the book you're in, and what Mr. Discord's words, you figure yourself to be Odysseus.
- >As you're thinking on this, another man comes up to you.
- >"Sir, would you like to say something to the men before we depart?" he asks.
- >He wants you to say something?
- >What would you even say to these men?
- >Mr. Discord's voice rings in your head.
- >"Just be inspirational. Say something to make these men want to follow you." he says.
- "Make them want to follow me? How am I going to do that?" you whisper to yourself.
- >Turning to the soldier you nod and make your way to the main ship in front of your men.
- >Reaching the front of the boat you turn back, facing them.
- >You take a deep breath and say the first thing that comes to mind.
- "Men, today we set sail back home after our victory here. We have all lost many friends and family here, but now is not the time to mourn. No, that time will come when we return home to our wives and children. The only way we are getting home together, with one one lagging, or being left behind is to work together. It will be a long and difficult one, but we must persevere. And remember men, the journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."
- >When you finish, you step back and out of your men's sight.
- >Almost as soon as you do you hear the men begin cheering.
- >Giving a sigh of relief when you hear them, you turn to the man who woke you up earlier.
- >"Sir shall I give the order to set off?" he asks.
- >You give him a nod and turn to the men as they all board the twelve ships along the coast.
- >Within the hour everyone is loaded and you have set sail.
- >Hours pass as you set a course for Ithaca.
- >The passing of time seems almost supernatural, as the hours seems to pass in only a few short minutes.
- >As you think about the passage of time, you notice the sun has begun setting.
- >A soldier comes to you telling you of a storm coming from the direction you're headed.
- >Sure enough, looking towards the sun, you notice a mass of clouds forming in the distance.
- >You tell the man to lower sails and prepare for rough waters.
- >Looking back towards the storm, you silently hope you will make it through safely.
- >You push yourself away from your laptop.
- "Well a little rough, but that wasn't the worse speech I've ever heard." you say to yourself.
- >Looking up at the clock on the wall you realize you're late to your class.
- >Grabbing your coat, you make your way to class.
- >Unsurprisingly there aren't many people left.
- >Taking your position at the head of the class, you look at those left.
- >"Look Rarity, Mr. Discord is here, ya'll can sit back down. Good thing yah showed up when yah did, Ah don't think Ah could keep these two around much longer." Applejack says, pulling Rarity and Rainbow Dash back into their seats.
- >"Yes Darling, now we get to listen to Mr. Discord go one about a random book. I am dying with anticipation." Rarity says rolling her eyes at Applejack.
- >"Yeah AJ, We could have left like 5 minutes ago, and I could be at the track training by now." Rainbow Dash whines to Applejack.
- >You smile at the remaining few and turn your attention to Rarity.
- "Rarity, what would you say if I could make you worshipped by thousands?" You say to her.
- >Turning your attention to Rainbow Dash before she can answer.
- "And Rainbow, what if I could make you one of the fastest living beings in existence?"
- >Without waiting for responses, you turn towards the door.
- "If either of you are interested in those join me. Everyone else please follow me. I have a surprise for all of you as well." You say taking your leave.
- >With a smirk, you turn around to see everyone who was in the room, behind you.
- >Leading them to the V.L.A. room, you get the new people set up.
- >Setting them up, you get Rainbow Dash in as Hermes, and Rarity as Aeolus.
- >As you're setting them up, the rest have chosen their own positions.
- >Taking a look at the roster, you chuckle to yourself.
- "Well, this is certainly going to be interesting."
- >Setting your sights on Applejack, you see how your student is getting used to her role.
- >Walking to a window, you look out over the courtyard at the group of suitors that have gathered.
- >You are staring down at the crowd below, when a knock on your door startles you.
- >Turning to see who was entering, you see Spike walk into your room.
- "Spike? What on earth are you doin' here?" You ask him.
- >Spike stops dead in his tracks when he sees you.
- >"AJ? You're my mother? I didn't think anyone had chosen the part." He says as he walk to your bed and sits down.
- "You're Telly-whosy-whatsit? That kinda fits actually. Besides you're probably the only young guy we know."
- >Joining him on the bed, you lay back.
- "So what do we do now? Like ah know ah have to be sewing a burial shroud, but ah have no idea what that is." You ask Spike.
- >"You're asking me? All I know is that we have to deal with those guys outside." Spike says, getting up and walking over to the window.
- "Don't worry sugarcube, Ah'm sure we'll figure something out." You say with a smile.
- >"It's not us I'm worried about. It's them. I am sure I saw Flash Sentry among them." He says, motioning you toward him.
- >Getting up you move to the window and look out as well.
- >"Lady Penelope! Allow me to ease the memory of Odysseus', and his death." A random suitor shouts at the window when he spots you.
- >You pull back into the window and sink bellow the window sill.
- "They're all here for me? Ah don't know if ah'll be able to learn how to make some shroud in time, to keep them in line." You say a bit worried about the situation.
- >Staying quiet for a minute, you can hear the group of men start calling for you.
- >When the voices stop, you look over to Spike to see him frozen where he was.
- >"Maybe I can help you a little bit." You hear a familiar voice say.
- >Your vision goes black and you are pulled into the area were you picked Penelope.
- >"I'll send you some help with your Sewing problem." The voice says.
- >A book appears in front of you.
- "Sewin' fer idiots?"
- >"Sir, our scouts have reported land not far from here. Shall we land and repair the damaged sails?" A soldier says as he enters your room aboard the ship.
- >You nod at him and he leaves to inform your other men.
- >After days of sailing through the storm, you were glad to hear the scouts had found land.
- >Walking out of your room, you cover your eyes due to the difference in light.
- >When your eyes finally adjust, you see the aforementioned land in the distance.
- >Giving the signal to land it takes you only a few minutes for all of your ships to make landfall.
- >As your troops gather, you give the order to set up a camp.
- >The soldiers begin setting up tents, you make your way towards your scouts.
- "You there, You men are the scouts that found this place correct?" You ask them.
- >"Yes sir." The man puts down the pieces of his squad's tent to face you.
- "I have an assignment for you. I need you and your men to scout the surrounding area to find food. I will make sure that your tents are set up by the time you return." You tell them.
- >Hours pass before your scouts return.
- >"Odysseus, we have found a city not far from here. From what we have seen it is relatively unprotected." He says, handing a crude map of the city.
- >Looking it over, you look back at your scout.
- "There were no animals around that we could hunt?" You ask, trying to think of anything other than laying siege to the city.
- >"No sir, any animals we found were in pens within the city." The man says.
- "Well, it would seem we have no other choice." You say.
- >Turning around, you face the rest of your men.
- "Men. Gather your weapons, we are going to get dinner." You say.
- >As the words leave your lips something occurs to you
- >You have no idea how to fight, let alone if you could kill a man.
- >Trying to look as calm as you can, you start screaming for Mr. Discord.
- "Can I get a little help here?" you scream in your head.
- >"Yes, you called? What can I do to help." Mr. Discord says.
- "Um, I don't think I can kill people. And that's pretty much what's happening. Anything you can do?" You ask.
- >"Hmm, yes. I see your point, that and I doubt Celestia would approve of me letting you kids murder people." He says.
- >He remains silent for a minute or so, before speaking up.
- >"It would seem that I am able to pull you from your character for a while. Give me a second and I'll put the AI in charge." He says and you hear the tapping of keys.
- >Soon after, your vision goes black and you feel yourself being pulled forward.
- >Your vision quickly clears once you are no longer being pulled.
- >You are back in the courtyard from the character selection, only there is something different.
- >All around you, there are screens.
- >Above the screens there are the names of your classmates.
- >The screens are entirely blacked out except for one, your own.
- >"I turned off the screens so as not to give any spoilers." Mr. Discord says, his voice coming from above you.
- "So when the attack is over I can go back?" You ask, eager to get back to being in charge.
- >"Correct, but in the meantime, you are free to watch." You hear him saying.
- >You sit down and watch the raid as the men storm the city and pillage food and treasures.
- >It doesn't take long before it's all over and everyone returns to the camp.
- >"Well, time for you to go back. The fun is only beginning though." Mr. Discord says as your vision fades to black.
- >Once your vision returns, you are greeted by the jovial faces of your men.
- >Looking at what they have taken, you see little food, most of the things taken were wines and gold.
- >As your men bask in the victory, you remember something from the book.
- >You look eagerly through your men for your scouts.
- >When you find them, you ask them the question that has you extremely nervous.
- "When you were scouting, did anyone see you?" You ask frantically.
- >The scout avoids eye contact.
- "Well? Answer me." you say shaking him a bit.
- >"Possibly just a farmer, but we were sure that he was looking past us." He finally spits out.
- "This isn't going to be good." You say as you release him.
- >"Sir, is something wrong?" The scout asks.
- >Ignoring him, you return to the front of your men.
- "Men, pack you tents, we are leaving. Now!" You shout at them.
- >Many of them ignore you, too busy helping themselves to the spoils of the attack.
- >Without warning, you start hearing shouts from the direction of the town.
- >Looking towards the shouts, you notice a mass of soldiers marching towards your position.
- >A few of your men must have seen it as well, as they quickly drop their wine and begin rallying the men to pack.
- >Taking control of the situation, you begin barking orders.
- "I want groups, working on separate things." You say.
- >Designating the groups they begin working.
- >As they begin packing the treasures onto the ships, a group of men set up closer to the town begin screaming.
- >The force you had seen at the town wasn't all of them.
- "They are here, On to the ships now! Forget the tents and wines." You shout to your men.
- >A few men from each boat volunteer to stay to hold the men back until you leave.
- >As they push all twelve of your ships into the ocean, they turn to hold the beach.
- >The last you see of them, they are fighting hopelessly, having a few fall almost immediately.
- >Turning your head away from the carnage that is the beach, you turn to your second in command.
- "How many did we lose from each ship?" You ask quietly.
- >"Six men. Six men from each ship." He says.
- >Turning away from him, you turn to see the rest of your ships.
- >taking a deep breath you yell to the men as loud as you can.
- "Good men died just now because of our greed. These men gave their lives to make sure we can continue ours. Let's not let their sacrifice be in vain."
- >The cheers of your men, once again means you did good, as you turn to see another storm on the horizon.
- With a sigh of defeat, you nod as everyone begins leaving the room.
- >Grabbing your bag, you say goodbye to Mr. Discord and catch up to Twilight.
- >Catching up, the two of you talk about homework until you have to split up.
- >When you get home, you immediately return to your room and take out your copy of "The Odessey" and flip through the pages.
- >Hours pass as you read, and when you look up from the book, you notice the time and panic slightly as you need to wake up in a few hours.
- >Putting the book down, you hop into bed and drift off to sleep.
- >The next day, you begin your normal routine, when you hear someone at your door.
- >Quickly pulling on your pants, you skip down your stairs, and open the door as soon at you reach the bottom.
- >At the door you see Twilight, who is standing there slightly slack jawed.
- "Hey Twilight, what brings you here this early?" you ask her, slightly curious about her staring.
- >"I thought I would, umm, walk to school with you. You, uh, realize your pants aren't up all the way right?" she says, her face burning bright red.
- >Looking down, you realize you forgot to button your pants as you ran out your room, and you are popping out a bit.
- "Shit! Sorry about that, you caught me in the middle of changing." you say, blushing a bit and quickly turning around, fixing yourself.
- >Once you fix yourself, you invite her in and excuse yourself to finish getting dressed.
- >When you return, you think you see her quickly rush back to her position on the couch.
- >Thinking nothing of it, the two of you begin walking to school.
- "So Twilight, what do you think is going to happen today in the game?" you ask her, trying to test her willingness to help you.
- >"Really? You know Mr. Discord told us not to tell you anything. If you want to know more read the book." she says, cutting off the conversation.
- >With a shrug, you accept that you aren't going to get anything from her, and the two of you continue to school.
- When you two enter the school, you meet up with Fluttershy.
- "Hey Fluttershy, you ready for Mr. Discord's class?" you ask as the three of you make your way to the computer room.
- >"I-i guess so. What about you, you're the one that has to do most of the work." she asks.
- "I guess, but it's all a simulation, besides it's fun. I get to be something different that who I am." you say with a smile.
- >Fluttershy and Twilight look at you and smile back.
- >"That's an interesting outlook on it." Twilight says, obviously thinking about something.
- >"I agree, I just went with someone I could relate with." Fluttershy adds.
- "Well I didn't choose my character. I just chose the random feature." you say with a shrug.
- >Twilight is about to say something, when Mr. Discord open up the door.
- >"Why hello there, you children are early? Eager to get started I presume?" he says with a toothy grin.
- >The three of you nod, and walk into the room.
- >You wait in anticipation for the rest of the class to show up, and once everyone is seated, you all place the helmets on your heads.
- >The darkness of the helmet slowly gives way to complete blackness.
- >Slowly, the darkness gives way to the familiar bright, piercing, light.
- >Eventually, the familiar scene of your ship's cabin comes into view.
- >It takes only a few seconds to realize the storm you left yesterday has passed.
- >Getting off your cot, you leave your cabin and your first mate makes his way over to you.
- >"Sir, one our scouts have found a body of land. We aren't sure what is on the island, but it doesn't seem to be inhabited." he says, pointing in the direction of the island.
- >Looking in the direction he is pointing.
- >You see a small speck of land in the distance.
- >Taking a chance you order your people to head to the island, but stay back and wait for the scouts to return with a report.
- >Hours pass with no word from your scouts at all.
- >As the day comes to an end and the sun dips below the ocean, you and your crew become more and more worried about them.
- >Eventually, you can wait no longer.
- >You gather your crew together and bring one man from each into the jungle of the island.
- >After hours of trudging through the underbrush, you begin noticing a fruit that is growing from the surrounding trees.
- >Pointing them out to your crew, you cut down one and take a small bite.
- >The taste reminds you of honey, only sweeter.
- >You're about to throw the fruit to the ground when it hits you.
- >An urge to leave everything and just eat the fruit.
- >Frightened by this, you throw it into the jungle.
- "Men, leave the fruit alone, it has a power over those who eat it." you call out to them.
- >They immediately drop the fruit, thankfully before any had eaten it.
- "This is probably why the scouts haven't returned." you say to yourself.
- >You motion to the others and the group continues to move deeper into the island.
- >Slashing away the vines in front of you, reveals a clearing.
- >Looking into the clearing reveals your men, surrounded by a group of strange humans.
- >Your men appear to be eating the fruit voraciously.
- >Motioning to the soldiers, you walk out into the clearing.
- "You there, what have you done to my men?" you yell angrily to the natives.
- >They spin around to meet you.
- >"We have only offered them the fruit of this island, which they happily accepted." they say with a smile.
- >Looking past the group, to your men, they don't appear to even notice you.
- >"Please, take some of our lotus fruit. We know you will enjoy it. All who partake in it do." they say, the smile on thier faces getting creepier the longer you look at them.
- >You knock the fruit from their hands.
- "We shall do no such thing, we are taking our men back with us. We must continue home." you say, moving past them, grabbing the arm of one of your men.
- >"No, the fruit, I need it." he says trying to get away.
- "You see men, this is the effect of the fruit, be glad you did not eat it earlier." you say to your soldiers, as you give the order to drag the men back to your ship.
- >The soldiers nod in acknowledgment, each grabbing an arm of a scout, and dragging them through the jungle back to the boat.
- >Trekking back along the path you made, the scouts cry out for the fruit, grabbing any they can reach along the way.
- >Once the group gets back to the ships, you order a group to accompany the scouts on thier boat.
- "Keep them under the deck until the fruit has passed through their system. We can't afford to lose them. Not now." you order the soldier you appointed the leader of the group.
- >You return to your ship and your men set back out onto the sea, toward Ithaca.
- ~~
- >You let out a sigh of relief as you see your friend successfully get off the island of the Lotus eaters.
- "He's doing quite nicely as Odysseus. A bit off from how he was supposed to do it, but it works." you say to yourself.
- >"He is doing good. But how will he fare against my son?" you hear the a familiar voice from behind you.
- >Turning away from the scrying orb, you see Mr. Discord standing behind you.
- "Mr. Discord, you startled me. What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be out there?" you ask inquisitively.
- >"Ah Twilight, or should I say Athena. I have Principle Celestia watching over it right now. Also you should address me as Poseidon here. Never know when the others will show up." he says, ending with a wink.
- >Nodding in acknowledgement, you continue on.
- "Wait, Poseidon? You don't plan on making it too hard on Odysseus do you?" you ask.
- >"Oh I don't, but it seems he is on path towards my son." he says, looking over your shoulder at the scrying orb behind you.
- "No he isn't, he should be on route to Ithaca." you say frantically, turning around to confirm his words.
- >Sure enough, your friend's ships have launched off course and are on route to the island of the cyclops.
- >Face-palming, you sigh audibly.
- "Just when he was doing good too."
- >Mr. Discord laughs loudly behind you.
- >"Oh lighten up. This is a perfect time for something chaotic to happen. I am interested how he deals with Snips and Snails." he says smirking.
- "Wait, those two are your son?" you ask.
- >"Well, you know what they say, two heads is better than one." he says slyly.
- >You glare at him.
- "You did this on purpose didn't you?" you say, accusingly.
- >"Who me? I would never do something like that." he says, his smirk becoming a sinister grin.
- >Letting him out of your sight for a second, you turn to the orb to watch.
- >"Let's just say things are about to get fun."
- >Laughing, he turns to water, disappearing in front of you.
- >Completely disregarding him, you continue watching.
- ~~
- >Once again, you see the days melt away before your eyes, and once again, you're pulled out of it by one of your crew calling your name.
- >"Odysseus, we've found land ahead." one of your crew calls out to you.
- >Shaking off the time skip, you look where he is pointing.
- >In the distance you see a series of islands, a few of them with grassy patches.
- >Giving the order to hold back, you order your scouts to check ahead for any dangers.
- >A few hours pass, and when they return with word of a cave, you make the decision to take a few men onto the island.
- >You decide to take the men on the ship you're on, into the cave.
- >As you land on the island, you feel like something is off, but dismiss it as nothing.
- >The group makes it's way to the cave your scouts found.
- >Entering the cave, you notice evidence that someone is using it as a home.
- >There are supplies strewn all along the edge of the cave, wines and meats along one side, and a large pelt on the floor as a makeshift bed, on the other.
- "Wait, something is wrong. The scouts said nothing of someone living here. We should leave. . ." your words are cut off by a set of voices from behind you.
- >"Just what are you."
- >"Doing in our home?" they say, the second one finishing the sentence.
- >Turning around, you only notice one body, but on closer inspection, you realize the one person has two heads.
- >"What do you mean 'our' home? I found this cave." the one head says.
- >"Because we both live here idiot." the other retorts.
- >As they argue, you take a look at them.
- >You recognize both of the heads as they two freshmen that hang out with Trixie.
- >One of your crew members takes the advantage to try and sneak past them.
- >"Where do you think your going little man?" one of the heads says.
- >He quickly snatches the man and with one arm, seals the cave with a large boulder.
- >Before he can eat the man, you speak up.
- "Giant, surely you don't wish to anger the gods and harm your guests. Why not put him down and tell us your name?" you plead with them.
- >Each head looks at you and laughs.
- >"Ha, you think we fear the gods?" one says.
- >"We do not fear the gods, our father is a god. As for our names. I am Snails and the right head here, is Snips." Snails says, telling you their names.
- >"No you moron. Our name is Polyphemus. And he isn't supposed to know we are the sons of Poseidon yet." Snips says slapping Snails.
- >They go back to ignoring you and arguing, still holding your man.
- "Well then Polyphemus, would you be so generous to let us leave?" you ask hoping that they will allow you to leave.
- >They both stop, and turn back to you.
- >"No." both Snips and Snails say in unison, and without missing a beat, they rip the man in half and eat him.
- >You and the remainder of your men are horrified after what you just saw.
- >"Hmm, he was small, and I'm still hungry. What about you?" Snips says.
- >"Eh, I could eat another, but wouldn't say I'm hungry." Snails responds.
- >The color drains from all of you when you realize they are talking about eating another person.
- >Before anyone can react, the giant takes another man into his hand, rips him in half, and each head swallows his half whole.
- >"Ahh, that hit the spot. Actually I'm getting tired, what about you?" Snails asks Snips.
- >"Yeah, it's getting kind of late." Snips says as they move over to their hide bed.
- >Snips and Snails lay down and quickly fall asleep.
- >You and your men wait to make sure they are asleep before looking around the cave.
- >The only light, is coming from a single torch you brought in with you.
- >Grabbing the torch, you make your way over to the boulder blocking the only way out, and give it a shove.
- "No good, that boulder isn't moving." you say to your men when you get back to them.
- >You decide to rest and decide what to do tomorrow.
