Laminates are built up by laying them at different orientations such as at 0 degrees and 90 degrees. This makes it stronger but if you keep adding layers to make it stronger it will also add weight. Spring and distortion can be minimised by building up the layers while keeping them at different orientations. For example if you had 2 layers and bent it with your hands it would bend with some resistance but if you had 10 layers and bent it with your hands it would have a higher resistance to it
