Pokemon Fire Red any% FAQ (Bulbasaur route)

Q: What are you playing on?
A: A GameCube using a GameBoy Player.

Q: What are you trying to do?
A: Beat the game as fast as possible using Bulbasaur.

Q: What is the best time?
A: I don't know; Bulbasaur hasn't been used much. My PB is 2:26:27, which is terrible.

Q: Why are you resetting?
A: Probably because my Bulbasaur's stats were bad.

Q: What stats are you looking for?
A: I want 27+ IV Attack, 26+ IV Sp. Atk and 19+ Speed with a Lonely (+Atk, -Def) or Naughty (+Atk, -Sp. Def) nature. Good defenses are important too, although not essential.

Q: Why are you checking your trainer ID at the start of the run?
A: This enables me to RNG manipulate a good Bulbasaur, albeit with a couple of restrictions. Each ID produces a unique list of starter stats, so by checking my ID, I'll know which Bulbasaurs I'll get on certain frames. If there's a great Bulbasaur at, say, frame 4200, I'll want to select it in Prof. Oak's lab 4200 frames after my trainer ID was generated. This method is inconsistent because the RNG doesn't always advance at the same speed, so I might get Bulbasaur #4195 or #4205 in the example above.

Q: Is Bulbasaur faster than Squirtle and Charmander?
A: Yes, by a huge margin. It has a type advantage over the first three gym leaders, which is basically all that matters. Also, Sleep Powder can be used to win every fight safely.

Q: Then why haven't people run it?
A: Legend has it that a famous streamer once tried, but gave up after being inundated with "Is Bulbasaur faster?" questions in his Twitch chat. Then everyone else just assumed it was slower.
