  4. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe's helmet is sorta tilted in a comical way and arrives at the entrance of the Prefab.

  12. <lurkdrun> She adjusts her tool and turns on her headlamp. "My rematch with Ashman... I feel confident."

  14. <Soulless> Stoat shows up, silent. Her extra hands float behind her.
  15. <Snowshoe> As you approach the prefab, you see several security men standing out front and doing security-like things, looking generally kind of bored. A researcher stands near the door, hands clasped behind his back. He nods to people as they arrive.
  16. <Echo> Jason shoes up a few minutes later, wrapping black tape around exposed metal on his weapons, with a bit of toilet paper stuffed under. As he approaches, he starts shoving a few bits into pouches here and there on his gear, filling extra space.

  19. <Soulless> Stoat glances to Jason and sizes him up a bit, then leaves him alone.
  20. <Gara> "And it's Jason." She nods.
  21. <PaulS_laptop> Bill nods "good."
  22. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe waves.
  23. <lurkdrun> She double checks the settings on her MVT.
  24. <PaulS_laptop> Bill press-checks his weapons. Rifle, shotgun, pistol.
  25. <Echo> He gives the others a wave, and starts painting his face and neck up, black on the cheeks and forehead, some patches of grey and loam here and there around his eyes and neck. As he finishes, he hops up and down a few times to make sure he's not rattling.
  26. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe checks her gear one last time. She adjusts her helmet so it sits on her head more comfortably.

  28. <Echo> "So..." Jason glances around the assembled group. "We gettin' a briefing, or what?"
  29. <Tehpillowstar> "In a moment."
  30. <Gara> "Probably not."
  31. <PaulS_laptop> Bill thumbs toward the researcher

  33. <lurkdrun> Elif shoulder bumps Loren.
  34. <Snowshoe> After you've all arrived, the researcher approaches the group. "I think this is everybody... Anything you need to grab last minute, or are we ready to proceed?"
  35. <Gara> "I'm ready to go."
  36. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe checks her gear to make sure everything is strapped down and she doesn't rattle like a tin peddler's cart.

  38. <Echo> "Standin' by."
  39. <Gara> She checks her flares, flashlight, knife...
  40. <Tehpillowstar> "I'm ready."
  41. <PaulS_laptop> "I'm good"
  42. <lurkdrun> She pulls out her heavy pipe wrench.
  43. <Snowshoe> "Right." The researcher unclasps his hands and rubs them together, looking nervous. "As you might have heard, the last mission into this prefab was... a little loud. We'd prefer to avoid that this time, if possible. We still don't know how this place works or what it's here for. We need you to go in quietly, find out anything you can about the workings of the place, and get out safely. Think you can handle that?"

  45. <PaulS_laptop> "I think we can handle that"
  46. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe looks at the others. "Think so."
  47. <Echo> "Hostiles?"
  48. <Tehpillowstar> "I've seen them."
  49. <Echo> Jason pulls out a small notebook from a sleeve pocket, ready to joy shit down.

  51. <Tehpillowstar> "Last mission there was this thing...that chased out the last group that was sent in."
  52. <Tehpillowstar> "People almost died." She says cheerfully.
  53. <lurkdrun> *gulp*
  54. <lurkdrun> "Gathering intel, got it."
  55. <PaulS_laptop> "Everything in there is hostile, don't let anything in there hook you, and try not to get something after us, I guess" he shrugs
  56. <Tehpillowstar> "Pretty much. I've been here a few times before, I can take point."
  57. <Snowshoe> The researcher blinks. "Um, yes, a good number of them. We don't know a whole lot about them, they're... difficult to get ahold of, from what we've seen before. Humans, coated in a thick layer of black ash. They're capable of rational thought and communication. Early on a few did talk to our teams, but they seem to be immediately violent now."

  60. <Echo> Jason nods at the researcher, scribbling down relevant points. "So goin' loud is a no-go unless..." He looks around. "One'a y'all givin' the order?"
  61. <Tehpillowstar> "Bill, bring up the rear, Jason, watch our flanks?"
  62. <Gara> "You'll know it's time to go loud pretty damn quick."
  63. <Echo> Ne nods to Chloe, then gives Loren a thumbs up. "Copy all that."
  64. <lurkdrun> Elif huddles in the middle.
  65. <lurkdrun> "Copy."
  66. <Gara> "Lets move."
  67. <Snowshoe> The researcher nods, then gestures towards the door to the prefab. "The... Whatever it is that got blasted to hell after the last mission was probably significant in some way, given what we know about it. We don't know what its death might have changed, so things may be different once you get further in."
  68. <lurkdrun> Elif turns on her headlamp and moves with the group.
  69. <PaulS_laptop> Bill takes up the rear when the group starts moving
  70. <Gara> Loren moves.
  71. <Snowshoe> The door to the prefab sits there, being a door.
  72. <Echo> Jason keeps his lights off, going dark. He hangs back toward Bill, leaving the more experienced personnel up front.
  73. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe opens the freaking door.
  74. <lurkdrun> ~why is there never a medic around when I'm on these missions?~
  75. <lurkdrun> *sigh*
  76. <Tehpillowstar> She enters.
  77. <Snowshoe> Praise Chloe, master of doors. The familiar darkened hallway sits before you, obviously too long to fit inside the building it's supposed to be inside. Black ash hangs in the air, casting odd shadows against the walls as it passes in front of your lights. Those of you who have been here before, it looks the same as it always has. One door at the end of the hall, two on the left, two on the right.

  83. <Echo> Jason's checking the ceiling, and trying to watch for anything odd by the doors.
  84. <Tehpillowstar> "The ash in the air is harmless. I believe only if it gets in your blood you're screwed."
  85. <Echo> Jason just gives her an "okay" hand signal.
  86. <lurkdrun> "I got duct tape to cover open wounds in a pinch."
  87. <PaulS_laptop> Bill rolls his sleeves down
  88. <Snowshoe> You don't notice anything too odd, Jason. It's completely silent except for the noise from people's footsteps.
  89. <lurkdrun> Elif continues to walk forward with the group.
  90. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe walks to the end of the wallway to the locked door and opens it. "We're going to scout out the lower floors."
  91. <PaulS_laptop> Bill brings up the rear.
  92. <Echo> Jason keeps moving, stepping it up a little toward the center of the group. When he speaks, he does so in a whisper. "If somethin' pops off, make sure y'all ain't the way up front. I don't want to sling bullets past ya."
  93. <Gara> Loren stays silent, but nods.
  94. <lurkdrun> "I'll try and duck." She whispers back.

  96. <Snowshoe> Chloe, things look the same as before on the other side of the door. Massive cylindrical room, you're on a catwalk at the top. You can't see the bottom of the room, but there's the ladder from before stretching from the catwalk you're on to the lower floor.

  99. <Snowshoe> The whole room is absolutely silent, black ash hanging in the air. It's not thick enough to obscure your vision too badly, but it's thick enough to be very noticeable.
  100. <Snowshoe> Chloe, you can't see the bottom of the ladder from where you are, but what you can see seems to be as intact as it was last time.

  103. <Echo> Jason pulls his balaclava over his face, along with a pair of goggles.

  109. <Echo> Jason moves up, rolling his feet on the gantryway's surface, and posts up beside the ladder, aiming his rifle down past her.
  110. <Echo> "Covering." His voice is barely audible.

  113. <Snowshoe> Chloe, the ladder seems relatively firm for something that stretches several hundred feet. You can feel the temperature dropping as you head down, and the ash thickens around you. You arrive at the bottom without incident.

  122. <Echo> Jason cinches down his sling, pushes it around the back, and starts down the ladder. "Bill, move up."

  138. <Echo> Jason works his jaw for a moment when he gets to the bottom floor as he loosens his rifle sling. He taps Chloe on the shoulder, gestures vaguely around where they are, then points to his rifle.
  139. <Snowshoe> A sharp, metallic *thunk* comes from one of the rooms ringing the upper catwalk. Those of you who were here would recognize it as the room Elif nearly froze her face off trying to walk into.
  140. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe nods in acknowledgement.

  143. <lurkdrun> Elif, shortly after Jason, reaches the bottom as well.

  151. <Snowshoe> Those of you at the bottom of the catwalk, there are two doors. One large, garage-sized door with a long hallway. The ash is thicker down here, and you can't see to the end of the hall. The other door is set in the wall, a faint red light blinking by it.
  152. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe gestures to the door with the blinking light.
  153. <PaulS_laptop> Once Loren is clear, and at least partly down, Bill descends
  154. <Snowshoe> Assume if you start going down the ladder, you hit the bottom. Elif, whoever else is climbing down, you make it.
  155. <lurkdrun> Elif whispers. "It's easy to get lost in this ash once we lose visibility. We may need a guide line, just something to keep in mind."
  156. <Echo> He taps Loren on the shoulder and points to the doorways.
  157. <Gara> She nods.

  159. <Gara> She pulls rope, pantomines tying them together.
  160. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe looks at Jason to see his opinion.
  161. <Tehpillowstar> She then glances at Elif to see her opinion.
  162. <PaulS_laptop> "Let's keep it tight for now"
  163. <Snowshoe> You hear a distant, metallic clang from above, sounds like a door being thrown open. The sound fades back into the absolute, eerie silence of the prefab.
  164. <Echo> He points at the smaller door with the blinking light, then pulls a battery from a pouch, and taps it before replacing it.
  165. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe looks up at the sound and flinches.
  166. <Snowshoe> You can't see the upper floor through the ash, Chloe. It's too thick down here for you to be able to see more than maybe thirty feet.
  167. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe gestures at the entire group. ~Hurry up and make a decision.~
  168. <lurkdrun> Elif nods. "I'll look at the blinking light."
  169. <Gara> Loren moves toward the doors.
  170. <Echo> Keeping his voice down, Jason leans in, mouth almost touching her ear. "We got power over there for sure, at least an emergency backup. Might be able to pull records, get what we need, and get the fuck out."
  171. <Tehpillowstar> Chloe leads the group the the blinking light. She gestures at Jason to keep an eye out for the thing that made the spooky sounds.
  172. <Echo> He nods and takes a knee in the center of the room, weapon leveled down the long hallway.
  173. <Snowshoe> Elif, there's a red flashing light over the door. Aside from that, you can't see anything unusual about the door itself.

  182. <Snowshoe> You hear what sounds like skin dragging against the the metal of the catwalk, Bill. It doesn't seem to be coming after you, or in any kind of hurry.

  188. <Echo> Jason waves his non-firing hand behind him, then looks around for Bill.

  191. <Echo> He catches sight of Elif and gives her a thumbs up, then redirects his attention to the door she's working on.

  200. <Snowshoe> Whoever can see into the room in whatever configuration you're all in now, it's a room full of glass vats. They sit in rows inside the room, about eight feet tall and five feet wide. Two or three that you can see are shattered, the jagged base of the vat marking where it used to stand. The others seem to be empty except for a transparent fluid.

  210. <Echo> He moves up then, slowly, slowly, slowly, then pies the doorway, moving side to side. Jason looks back at Bill, and waves him forward.

  228. <Echo> The muzzle of Jason's rifle snaps in the direction of the sound. He points in that direction, eyes frozen down the sights. He moves up beside the closest table and takes a knee, making himself small.

  234. <Snowshoe> Bill and Jason, you see something human-sized, covered in thick black ash exiting an access vent. There's another, quieter clang as the vent clangs back shut. and a soft thump as its feet hit the ground. A thick, black cord stretches from the back of its neck into the vent it just exited, apparently unaffected by the closed vent. It holds another hook in its hand, and it paces down an empty row of vats, eyeing them.

  254. <Echo> Jason keeps quiet, weapon trained on it, waiting for it to pass to clear their advance.
  255. <Snowshoe> It exits the room, leaving the door hanging open. You catch a glimpse of the back of its neck, a silvery hook glinting in the darkness as it leaves. The black cord still stretches from the hook it was holding and the hook in it neck into the vent in the back wall.

  257. <Echo> Jason waves his non-firing hand a little, then points at his eyes, then down at the cord stretching down the hall, than at his feet, and shakes his head.

  261. <Echo> He shakes his head side to side, then opens and closes his hand a few times, then twirls a finger. Alarm.

Otherwise, not a whole lot you can see that you haven't seen before. There are feeds in the tops of the vats for tubes to be hooked on to, and you can see those tubes hooked up against the roof. Same setup as the vat room near the entrance.
