Vernestra switched her tactic. She spun on her heel and ran flat out toward the creature, startling it so it froze in place. Once she was close enough, she vaulted over the lizard, landing behind it. And then she pushed.

“Sorry!” she called, feeling quite terrible about sending the thing over the edge of the waterfall. She ran to the cliff, her boots sliding on the slick rocks, and then she reached for the creature, still in midair, softening its landing so it hit the water more gently than it would have in total free fall.
