- Welcome to the walkthrough of Unique Type Pokémon puzzle!
- While at it, remember the basic rules:
- The definition of "unique type" and the list of eligible Pokémon are in accordance to Bulbapedia:
- "A Pokémon qualifies as having a unique type combination if no other Pokémon aside from any evolutionary relatives has that type combination."
- • No guessing required.
- • Adjacents include diagonals.
- • Each Pokémon appears only once.
- • All information is up to date with Generation VIII - Isle of Armor DLC.
- • Resistances and immunities are treated separately and are based exclusively on types. (No abilities)
- ---
- A1
- A1 is BISHARP
- ---
- D4
- Based on Bisharp's clue, we know that D4 is weak to both Steel and Dark.
- Ghost and Psychic are weak to Dark. Rock, Ice and Fairy are weak to steel.
- Psychic/Rock, Psychic/Ice and Psychic/Fairy are not unique type combinations, therefore D4 must be a ghost type.
- Ghost/Rock does not currently exist. Ghost/Fairy is weak to Steel, but then it's no longer weak to Dark.
- Therefore, D4 can only be Ghost/Ice. Froslass is the only Ghost/Ice Pokémon.
- D4 is FROSLASS
- ---
- D3
- Froslass' clue states that "D3 is immune to both types of A2, which is immune to one of mine."
- We know that D3 is weak to either Steel or Dark, meaning it is either a Ghost, Psychic, Ice, Rock or Fairy Pokémon.
- Fairy and Ghost have immunities, but only Ghost has two, being immune to Normal and Fighting. However, the Pokémon in A2 cannot be Fighting/Normal, because that's not an unique type.
- Therefore, each of D3's immunities is granted by a different type, meaning both of its types have immunities.
- Unique type Pokémon that have two types with immunities, with one of them being either Ghost or Fairy are:
- Grimmsnarl, which is immune to Psychic and Dragon
- Togekiss, which is immune to Ground and Dragon
- Mimikyu, which is immune to Normal, Fighting and Dragon
- Aegislash, which is immune to Normal, Fighting and Poison
- Psychic/Dragon and Ground/Dragon are not unique types, so they cannot be A2. Grimmsnarl and Togekiss are discarded.
- Since we already know that A2 is not Normal/Fighting, it can only be Normal/Dragon, Fighting/Dragon or Fighting/Poison, since Normal/Poison does not exist.
- Therefore, we have three possibilities for D3 and A2
- Mimikyu and Drampa
- Mimikyu and Kommo-O
- Aegislash and Toxicroak
- Drampa is the only alternative for A2 that is immune to one of Froslass' types, being immune to Ghost. Therefore,
- D3 is MIMIKYU
- ---
- A2
- A2 is DRAMPA
- ---
- C1
- A2 states that C1 shares a type and a generation with Drampa.
- Therefore, C1 is a Generation VII Pokémon.
- The only other Generation VII which are either Normal or Dragon and have a unique type are Hakamo-O and Kommo-O.
- D3 states that no Pokémon in the quiz are able to evolve. Therefore,
- C1 is KOMMO-O
- ---
- D5
- C1 states that D5 is a pseudo legendary.
- Fully evolved pseudo legendary Pokémon are: Dragonite, Tyranitar, Salamence, Metagross, Garchomp, Hydreigon, Goodra, Kommo-O and Dragapult.
- Only Tyranitar and Kommo-O have unique types, and since Kommo-O is already in C1, D5 can only possibly be Tyranitar.
- D5 is TYRANITAR
- ---
- D1
- From Drampa's (A2) clue we can conclude that D1 is a Dragon type.
- We also know that being in column D means it is weak to either Dark or Steel, therefore its typing is the combination of Dragon with Ghost, Psychic, Fairy, Rock or Ice.
- Dragon/Ghost and Dragon/Psychic are not unique types. Dragon/Rock, Dragon/Fairy and Dragon/Ice are all unique types.
- Therefore, there are three possibilities for C1: Tyrantrum, Mega Altaria and Kyurem
- We know from C1 that there are no legendary or mythical Pokémon in the quiz, so D1 is not Kyurem.
- We know from D5 that there are no mega evolutions in the quiz, so D1 is not Mega Altaria either. Therefore,
- D1 is TYRANTRUM
- ---
- B4
- Tyrantrum's clue (D1) states that "B4 is either immune or resistant to both of D3's types."
- D3 is Mimikyu, which is Ghost and Fairy type.
- The only types that resist or are immune to Ghost are Normal and Dark.
- However, B4 cannot be a Dark type, otherwise it would not resist or be immune to Fairy.
- Therefore, B4 is a Normal type that resists Fairy.
- Types that resist Fairy are Steel, Poison and Fire.
- Normal/Steel and Normal/Poison Pokémon do not exist.
- Therefore, B4 is a fully evolved (always have D3 clue in mind) Normal/Fire type.
- B4 is PYROAR
- ---
- D2
- Pyroar's (B4) clue tells us that D2 is a Flying type.
- We also know that, being in column D, it is necessarily weak to either Dark or Steel.
- Ghost and Psychic are the types weak to Dark, but neither Flying/Ghost nor Flying/Psychic is a unique type.
- Fairy, Ice and Rock are the types weak to Steel. Flying/Ice and Flying/Rock are not unique types.
- Therefore, D2 is a fully evolved Flying/Fairy Pokémon.
- D2 is TOGEKISS
- ---
- B2
- As stated in Togekiss' clue (D2), B2 is a Generation II Pokémon.
- Generation II Pokémon with unique types are Tyranitar, Sneasel, Swinub, Piloswine and Crobat.
- Tyranitar is already in D5.
- Sneasel, Swinub and Piloswine can evolve.
- Therefore, B2 can only be Crobat.
- B2 is CROBAT
- ---
- E2
- Crobat's clue (B2) tells us that E2 is 4x weak to Ice.
- The types weak to Ice are Ground, Flying, Dragon and Grass.
- The only combination of those types that is unique is Grass/Ground. Therefore,
- E2 is TORTERRA
- ---
- E1
- Torterra's clue (E2) states that the name of E1 also starts with the letter T.
- The fully evolved Pokémon with unique types starting with the letter T are: Terrakion, Tyranitar, Tyrantrum, Toxicroak, Toxtricity and Togekiss.
- Tyranitar, Tyrantrum and Togekiss are already in the quiz.
- E1 cannot be Terrakion since there are no mythical or legendary Pokémon.
- The only possibilities are Toxicroak and Toxtricity.
- Drampa's (A2) clue told us earlier that C1 (Kommo-O) does not share its other type (besides Dragon) with any other Pokémon in the quiz.
- Therefore, Kommo-O is the only Fighting type in the quiz.
- E1 cannot be Toxicroak, because it is a Fighting type. Therefore,
- E1 is TOXTRICITY
- ---
- B5
- Toxtricity's (E1) clue claims: "The only other electric type in this quiz is in B5. It does not change forms in any way."
- Fully evolved Electric Pokémon with unique types are: Stunfisk, Alolan-Golem, Heliolisk, Rotom and Morpeko.
- D5 told us earlier than none of the Pokémon in the quiz are or have regional variants.
- B5 cannot be Alolan-Golem, because it is a regional variant, nor Stunfisk, since it has a regional variant in Galar.
- Rotom can change into several different forms, and Morpeko occasionally changes forms due to its ability. Therefore,
- B5 is HELIOLISK
- ---
- B3
- From Heliolisk's (B5) clue we know that there is a Water type in column B.
- From Crobat's (B2) clue we know that all other Pokémon in column B are weak to ground.
- Therefore, there is a Water type in Column B that is weak to ground.
- The fully evolved Water type Pokémon that have a unique type are: Bibarel, Ludicolo, Volcanion, Jellicent and Empoleon.
- Only Empoleon and Volcanion are weak to ground, but Volcanion is a mythical Pokémon.
- Therefore, Empoleon is in column B.
- Torterra's (E2) clue says that "the other starter is in row 3".
- Torterra and Empoleon are the only starter Pokémon with unique type combinations.
- Therefore, Empoleon is in row 3.
- B3 is EMPOLEON
- ---
- B1
- From Heliolisk's (B5) clue we know that there is a Ghost type in column B.
- From Crobat's (B2) clue we know that all other Pokémon in column B are weak to ground.
- B1 is the last open spot in column B.
- Therefore, B1 is a Ghost type Pokémon that is weak to Ground.
- Rotom, Aegislash and Gengar are the only fully evolved Ghost Pokémon that are both weak to ground and have unique types.
- B1 cannot be Rotom because Toxtricity and Heliolisk are the only electric types in the quiz.
- B1 can only be Aegislash or Gengar.
- Empoleon's (B3) clue states the following: "I told Bisharp that there is one more steel type in this quiz, but unfortunately none of us is adjacent to it."
- Fully evolved Steel type Pokémon which have unique types are: Alolan-Sandslash, Empoleon, Bisharp, Heatran and Aegislash.
- Empoleon and Bisharp are already in the quiz.
- Heatran is a legendary Pokémon.
- Alolan-Sandslash is a regional variant.
- Therefore, we know for a fact that Aegislash is in the quiz, and that it is not adjacent to Bisharp nor Empoleon.
- B1 is adjacent to Bisharp, so it cannot be Aegislash. Therefore,
- B1 is GENGAR
- ---
- E5
- From Heliolisk's (B5) clue we know that there is a Ghost type in row 5.
- Fully evolved Ghost type Pokémon with unique types are: Gengar, Jellicent, Aegislash, Froslass, Marshadow, Shedinja, Mimikyu and Rotom.
- Gengar, Mimikyu and Froslass are already in the quiz.
- Marshadow is a mythical Pokémon and Rotom is an electric type, so it's no longer possible for them to be in the quiz.
- B5 clearly states that there is a Ghost/Water Pokémon in the quiz (which we can infer is Jellicent), but that it cannot be in row 5.
- Therefore, either Aegislash or Shedinja is in row 5.
- The open spots in row 5 are A5, C5 and E5.
- Gengar's (B1) clue says: "None of the Pokémon in columns A, B and C are weak to any of my types, but columns D and E each have exactly two Pokémon that are weak to Ghost."
- Aegislash and Shedinja are both weak to Gengar's Ghost type, so they cannot be in columns A to C.
- Column D has no spots left.
- Therefore, E5 must be Aegislash or Shedinja.
- At this point, column E is the only column that a Ghost type can fit, because all Ghost type Pokémon with unique types are weak to Ghost.
- Therefore, Jellicent, who we know for a fact is in the quiz, is in column E.
- We know from Gengar's tip that column E has exactly two Pokémon weak to Ghost.
- We just found out that Jellicent is one of them.
- The other one is E5, because it must be Aegislash or Shedinja.
- Therefore, column 5 has Jellicent and either Aegislash or Shedinja, but not both, otherwise it would have 3 Pokémon weak to Ghost.
- We also know for a fact from Empoleon's (B3) clue that Aegislash is in the quiz.
- Since Aegislash is a Ghost type, it must be in column 5.
- Since Aegislash in in column 5, Shedinja isn't. Therefore,
- E5 is AEGISLASH
- ---
- E3
- We know from previous clues that Jellicent is column E.
- The free spots in column E at this point are E3 and E4.
- Aegislash (E5) is adjacent to E4.
- Aegislash's (E5) clue says: "All Pokémon adjacent to me can hit me for supereffective damage with one of their types, but at least I resist the other one."
- Aegislash is indeed weak to one of Jellicent's types (Ghost) but it does not resist the other (Water).
- Therefore, Jellicent cannot be in E4.
- E3 is JELLICENT
- ---
- E4
- We know from Jellicent's (E3) clue that the Pokémon in E4 cannot have more then one gender.
- The Pokémon in E4 is, therefore, either genderless, always female, or always male.
- The only fully evolved Pokémon that have unique type combinations, are genderless or always the same gender, and are not mythical or legendary are: Froslass, Salazzle, Grimmsnarl, Shedinja, Claydol, Rotom
- Froslass is already in the quiz.
- We know from previous tips that column E cannot have any more Pokémon that are weak to Ghost.
- Therefore, E4 is not Shedinja, Claydol or Rotom.
- E4 can be either Grimmsnarl or Salazzle.
- E4 is adjacent to Aegislash, which is weak to one of its types and resistant to the other.
- Aegislash is weak to both Dark, from Grimmsnarl, and Fire, from Salazzle. It does resists Grimmsnarl's Fairy type, but it is immune, not resistant, to Salazzle's Poison type. Therefore,
- E4 is GRIMMSNARL
- ---
- A5
- From Heliolisk's (B5) clue we know that there is a Water type in row 5.
- Free spots in row 5 at this point are A5 and C5.
- Grimmsnarl's (E4) clue reveals that it shares two weaknesses with the Pokémon in C5.
- Grimmsnarl's weaknesses are Fairy, Steel and Poison.
- C5 cannot be weak to Poison, because being in column C, it cannot be weak to Gengar.
- Therefore, C5 is weak to Steel and Fairy.
- C5 cannot be a Water type, because Water resists Steel.
- Therefore, A5 is a water type.
- The fully evolved Water type Pokémon that have a unique type are: Bibarel, Ludicolo, Volcanion, Jellicent and Empoleon.
- Volcanion is a mythical Pokémon and Jellicent and Empoleon are already in the quiz.
- A5 cannot be Ludicolo, because due to its Grass type, it is weak to Gengar's Poison type. Therefore,
- A5 is BIBAREL
- ---
- A4
- Bibarel's (A5) clue says that all Pokémon adjacent to it share a type and a generation.
- Bibareal is adjacent to A4, B4 and B5.
- B4 and B5 are Pyroar and Heliolisk.
- Pyroar and Heliolisk are both Normal types from Generation VI.
- Besides them, the fully evolved Normal type Pokémon with unique types are: Bibarel, Diggersby, Drampa, and Sawsbuck.
- Bibarel and Drampa are already in the quiz.
- Sawsbuck is not from Generation VI. Therefore,
- A4 is DIGGERSBY
- ---
- C2
- C2 is in row 2, which makes it weak to Ice, according to Crobat's (D2) clue.
- Types weak to Ice are Ground, Grass, Dragon and Flying.
- The fully evolved, not mega evolved, non mythical or legendary Pokémon of these types, that also possess unique types, are:
- Ground: Diggersby, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Stunfisk, Claydol, Krookodile, Torterra and Mamoswine.
- Grass: Sawsbuck, Cradily, Ludicolo, Torterra and Abomasnow.
- Dragon: Drampa, Tyrantrum and Kommo-O.
- Flying: Crobat and Togekiss.
- All of the Dragon and Flying types are already in the quiz, so C2 must be a Ground or a Grass type.
- Diggersby and Torterra are already in the quiz.
- Mamoswine, Ludicolo and Abomasnow are not weak to Ice.
- Stunfisk has a regional variant, so it cannot be in the quiz.
- Claydol and Sawsbuck are each weak to one of Gengar's types, so they cannot be in column C.
- Therefore, the remaining possibilities are: Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Krookodile and Cradily.
- According to Diggersby's (A4) clue: "If C2 shares a type with Torterra, then it does not share a type with me."
- C2 cannot be a Ground type, otherwise it would share a type with both Diggersby and Torterra.
- C2 must the be a Grass type. Therefore,
- C2 is CRADILY
- ---
- A3
- Cradily's (C2) clue tells us that A3 is a Bug type Pokémon.
- Bug type Pokémon that cannot evolve as have unique type combinations are: Frosmoth, Ribombee, Shedinja and Orbeetle.
- Pokémon in column A cannot be weak to Ghost or Poison, which are Gengar's types.
- Shedinja and Orbeetle are weak to Ghost and Ribombee is weak to poison. Therefore,
- A3 is FROSMOTH
- ---
- C3
- Frosmoth's (A3) clue says: "I can hit one of the Pokémon in this row for supereffective damage with both of my types."
- The Pokémon currently in row 3 are Empoleon, Mimikyu and Jellicent.
- None of these Pokémon are weak to any of Frosmoth's types, so the clue must refer to C3.
- Types weak to Ice are Ground, Grass, Dragon and Flying.
- Types weak to Bug are Psychic, Dark and Grass.
- If you refer to the C2 step by step, you can see in details why the only Pokémon that are weak to Ice and might still be in the quiz are Nidoking, Nidoqueen and Krookodile.
- Nidoking and Nidoqueen are not weak to Bug. Therefore,
- C3 is KROOKODILE.
- ---
- C5
- According to Grimmsnarl's (E4) clue, C5 shares two weaknesses with it.
- Grimmsnarl is weak to Fairy, Steel and Poison.
- C5 is in column C, therefore it cannot be weak to Poison, again because of the Gengar clue.
- C5 must be weak to Steel and Fairy.
- The types weak to Steel are Ice, Rock and Fairy.
- The types weak to Fairy are Fighting, Dragon and Dark.
- The possible combinations are: Ice/Fighting, Ice/Dragon, Ice/Dark, Rock/Fighting, Rock/Dragon, Rock/Dark, Fairy/Fighting, Fairy/Dragon and Fairy/Dark.
- Curiously, with the exception of Fairy/Fighting, which is currently inexistent, all the other possibilities are unique type combinations.
- Ice/Dragon is Kyurem and Rock/Fighting is Terrakion. They cannot be C5 since they are legendary Pokémon.
- Fairy/Dragon is Mega Altaria, which cannot be C5 either because it is a mega evolution.
- Rock/Dragon is Tyrantrum, Rock/Dark is Tyranitar and Fairy/Dark are Grimmsnarl, all of which are already in the quiz.
- C5 can only be Ice/Dark, which is Weavile, or Ice/Fighting, which is Crabominable.
- Drampa's (A2) clue states that C1, which is Kommo-O, does not share its non Dragon type with any Pokémon in the quiz.
- This means that C5 cannot be Crabominable. Therefore,
- C5 is WEAVILE
- ---
- C4
- We know from Weavile's (C5) clue and Krookodile's (C3) clue that the Pokémon in C4 shares a type with both of them.
- Weavile is Dark/Ice. Krookodile is Dark/Ground.
- Eligible fully evolved Dark types are: Tyranitar, Bisharp, Grimmsnarl and Morpeko.
- Eligible fully evolved Ice types are: Crabominable, Aurorus, Abomasnow, Mamoswine, Frosmoth, Froslass, Alolan Sandslash, Alolan Ninetales and Kyurem.
- Eligible fully evolved Ground types are: Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Mamoswine, Diggersby, Torterra, Claydol and Stunfisk.
- Excluding legendaries, Pokémon that are or have regional variants and Pokémon that are already in the quiz, we have the following possibilities:
- Weavile shares a type with Morpeko, Crabominable, Aurorus, Abomasnow and Mamoswine.
- Krookodile shares a type with Morpeko, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Mamoswine and Claydol.
- The only two Pokémon that share a type with both Weavile and Krookodile are Morpeko and Mamoswine.
- C4 cannot be Morpeko because we know that Heliolisk and Toxtricity are the only Electric types in the quiz. Therefore,
- C4 is MAMOSWINE
- ---
