- >The soft vibrating of what you wish was a cellphone rises you from your slumber.
- >Rolling over, you deactivate the magic rune once more.
- >Pushing out of bed, you begin your morning routine
BACKWARDS
.
- >Finishing up your routine, you hop out of the shower, wrapping a towel around your waste while drying your head with another one.
- >Walking out of the bathroom, you hear a knock at your door.
- “Come in,” you call out, expecting it to be Twilight.
- >After calling out, you really hope you were right as you walk to your room and begin putting clothes on.
- >”Anonymous?” You hear Twilights voice call out.
- >Breathing a sigh of relief, you get your pants on.
- “My room.”
- >Searching through your drawers, you can't seem to decide what shirt to wear.
- >A quick peek outside your window says it's a dull and gray day again, something warm maybe?
- >You hear your door crack open slightly.
- >”Good morning Anony- oh sorry!” she closes the door.
- “Huh? What's wrong?” you go and open the door.
- >”I'm sorry Anonymous, I didn't mean to walk in on you.” she's turned away from you, but you can see a bit of pink in her cheeks.
- “Huh?”
- >”Humans have a thing about decency right? Being undressed?” She turns her head slowly as if shes going to burst into flames by just looking at you.
- “Oh that, yes, at least with the lower half. Top half, I don't care. Plus I have been growing used to it, you ponies and griffons walk around naked as it is. Just hard to get used to after being raised and told that naked is a bad thing.”
- >Twilight slowly adopts a face of understanding as you head back into your room to find a shirt.
- >She follows you in, guessing it's okay.
- >”So why do you always want your lower half covered then?” pure curiosity in her voice.
- >Picking up a shirt, you slide it on over your head.
- “Twilight, how old are you?”
- >”Uhhh, I'm [INSERT AGE HERE], why?”
- “We're both adults, what do males have between their legs?” you say with a playful grin.
- >You watch the wheels turn in her head, surprisingly slow you might add.
- >A slow blush comes over with a quiet “Oh.”
- >Sliding your shoes on, you glance over at Twilight to find she's fiddling with her hooves on the floor.
- >She looks rather cute with a confused face on as you ask her a question.
- “What's up?”
- >Your voice seems to snap her out of what ever she was in as she picks up her normal smile.
- >”Nothing, nothing... ready to go?”
- “Juuuust about, any idea what the test will be on?”
- >Opening your window, you get a feel for the outside air. Rather chilly.
- >Grabbing a your hoodie, Twilight walks with you out of your room.
- >”I have no idea, the second half is not required, remember? But it helps.”
- “Yeah yeah.” even you could hear how nervous you were.
- >With a sigh, you grab your bag, making sure you have your test and head out the door with Twilight.
- >Twilight tries to lighten the mood, asking if you were excited to see P0nyville.
- >Of course you're excited, but that doesn't change the fact that this test is still in the way.
- >While Twilight helped you immensely on the written part, you can't help but feel nervous about casting a spell chosen by Mrs. Twinkleshine.
- >What if she chooses something you don't know how to do?
- >What if you didn't do very well on the written part and this is your only hope to pass!
- >What if-
- >”Alright class, it's time for your test.”
- >'When did I get to class!' you scream in your head.
- >Cursing at yourself for spacing out, you begin to fiddle with your pencil.
- >Mrs. Twinkleshine grabs several books off her desk, passing them to several ponies.
- >”I want you to pair up into twos.”
- >You waste no time is grabbing Twilights desk and pulling it toward you.
- >The teacher giggles at your actions but some how went unnoticed to the rest of the class.
- >Twilight wears a shocked and confused look as she picks a book out of the air.
- >Giving it a quick scan, she raises her hoof until Mrs. Twinkleshine calls on her.
- >”I already know everything in this book.”
- >The entire class looks at her, which causes her to sink in her chair.
- >”That’s fine, just teach Anonymous then. Alright class, you know how this works, teach your partner without reading directly from the book.”
- >'Wonderful. Great. Fantastic. Fuck. No this isn't that bad really, Twilight’s a good teacher.'
- >You relax a bit as Twilight begins flipping through the book.
- >Glancing over at your teacher, she sits down with your and Twilights papers and begins grading by the looks of it.
- >”Here we go!” Twilight's voice pulling your attention.
- >”Hmmm oh... maybe not...”
- “What is it?” You ask her.
- >”Well, for this spell, you would need a unicorn horn.” She looks rather sad as she goes to turn the page.
- “So? You found a way for me to create a small fire and I don't have a horn, right? Lets try it, what's the worst that can happen?”
- >Twilight puts some thought into what you said.
- >Slowly, she turns back to the page.
- >”It's a simple cold spell.” She begins skimming over the spell.
- “So, like what, freezing stuff?”
- >”Yes, there are much larger and more powerful versions of the spell but this one is a simple ray of frost.”
- “Is it called Ray of frost?”
- >Twilight gives you a confused look. “Does it matter?”
- “Maybe?”
- >Twilight just shakes her head and sighs.
- >”I guess we could try this with water” Twilight reaches into her bag, pulling out a half-filled water bottle.
- >She places it in front of you as you look back at her.
- “Sooo.... how do I do this?”
- >”It's what I’m trying to figure out, with out a horn you don't have a point of focus to make cold air.”
- “Hmmm. Explain the spell to me as if I had a horn...”
- >”I'm not sure how that will help, but okay. A unicorn could have the base of their horn absorb the heat while focusing magic on the tip, causing a chain reaction which is the Ray of frost.”
- >Listening to this, you repeat it in your head over and over again.
- “So what happens with the heat? I thought horns were very sensitive?”
- >”They are, do you remember the first thing you learned about magic?”
- “Uhhh, it's a helpful tool but it's also dangerous?”
- >Twilight thinks about it for a minute.
- >”Well that’s correct... I mean second thing you learn.
- “Um... magic.... can't something.”
- >”Magic can never harm you in its natural form.”
- >Rubbing your chin thinking about this, you fail to see where she's going with this.
- “I don't think I understand.”
- >”You will understand, first you need to to gather heat. I guess we can try and use your hand as a focus point.”
- >”First you will need to coat your hand with a thin layer of magic.”
- “Entire hand or just the palm? Back of my hand?”
- >”Uhhh...” palm should be fine.
- “Alright.”
- >Doing as you're told, your hand gets a light gray greasy look.
- >”Next you need to have the magic rub up against each other to create heat, it will take care of the rest.”
- “Okay.”
- >”Anonymous, one more thing, no matter how hot it gets, it can't hurt you.”
- >You don't like the sound of that. But you nod your head showing you heard her.
- >Twilight dives back into the book in hopes of finding some kind of secret that may make this easier, while you attempt to make the 'magical elements greasing up your hand' dance.
- >After a couple of attempts, the elements begin to cooperate by what feels like vibrating your hand.
- >It's maybe the most awkward thing you have ever felt in your entire life...
- >But as time moves and more groups go up, you feel your hand growing hotter.
- >Soon it's as if you stuck your hand in boiling water.
- >But it doesn't hurt, it doesn't burn....
- >Twilight has erupted into giggles, must be wearing a pretty stupid face.
- “What do I do now.... this is awkward and I want to move my hand.”
- >Twilight just smiles as she puts the water bottle she pulled out in front of you.
- >”Push it out.”
- “I... what?”
- >”Just give it a try, you will understand, push it out right here.” She pokes the middle of your palm with her quill.
- >Following the instructions, you give it a try.
- >You push at the point of your palm, causing a small blue beam to jet out for a short period of time, hitting the bottle.
- >The bottle looks like you just pulled it out of the freezer but it's not entirely frozen yet.
- >Most of the heat built up in your hand has depleted, leaving your hand with a rather fuzzy feeling now.
- >Flexing your hand, your knuckles pop in response.
- >As you stare at your hand, it slowly starts coming together.
- “So because it's still in a natural form, the magical heat stored in my hand won't harm me? But fire.... that isn't magic in its natural form... that’s a real fire being fueled by magic.”
- >You hold your head as you finish talking.
- >”That is correct Anonymous!” you hear Mrs. Twinkleshine behind you.
- >Turning around, you see her with your test packets.
- >”Hope you don't mind me watching, you looked so focused.”
- >She sets the packets down in front of you and Twilight.
- >Taking a peak, Twilight got an A+
- >You got a B-....
- >Not bad.
- >”Now then Anonymous, would you wait until I dismiss class for your test?”
- >You look at her slowly.
- “But... what was this?”
- >”This was something we do every week! I said your test will be a spell I choose.”
- >You take a drink from the cold water bottle.
- “Touché.”
- >Class goes on as it would normally.
- >Except that you're nervous as all hell again.
- >You have no idea if the test packet was enough to make you pass.
- >Twilight doesn't have to do the spell test because she knows everything...
- >Good for her... you guess...
- >Eventually Mrs. Twinkleshine lets the students out early, leaving just you and her.
- >She requested Twilight wait outside.
- >”Alright Anonymous.” Mrs. Twinkleshine pulls out a rather large brown book from under her desk.
- >She floats it over to you, putting down in front of you.
- >She opens it up to what seems like a random page to you and points a hoof at it.
- >”This spell, you have one hour to learn it. Starting now.”
- >Panic sets in as you begin to read it.
- >'Letter by fire.'
- >The spell is used to send letters via fire.
- >Fire is easy!
- >Must breathe fire like a dragon...
- “But... I'm not a dragon...”
- >She just looks up from her desk and to the clock.
- >You follow her gaze.
- >Shit, three minutes wasted!
- >'Breathe fire? How? What about this part about the letter?'
- >Coat the letter with magic, giving it a destination.”
- >'How do you give it a destination?!'
- >See magic runes.
- >Keeping the page bookmarked, you take a quick look at the magic rune page.
- >'Alright, has to be a place or being I can describe, easy!'
- >Flipping back to the original page, you take your pencil and quickly draw the outline of a magic rune.
- >Putting magic into it, you etch small details of her desk.
- >'Papers, drawers... small pillow to sit on, various writing utensils... Unicorn sitting in front of it.'
- >'Rune should be good...'
- >Setting it aside, you will look at it later.
- >'Letter time...'
- >Taking a look at the clock, you have 40 minutes left.
- >'Making good time maybe...?' you can't tell.
- >Writing quickly on the letter “Do I pass,” you roll it up and attach the paper seal with the etched magic rune.
- >'Coat it in elements and magic... does it have to be fire-proof?'
- >You read over the page, hoping to find something that says yes or no.
- >Deciding whatever, there’s nothing you can do, next is the fire breath part.
- “Is the dragons breath natural or magical?” you ask your teacher.
- >She looks at you, confused for a bit.
- >”It's natural, it holds magical properties.”
- >'Didn't help!'
- “How many tries do I get?”
- >”Until the time is up.”
- >Looking at the clock, you have 33 minutes left.
- >Deciding to go for it, you quickly snap your fingers, making a small fire. Holding the letter, you blow the fire onto it, causing it to burn up instantly.
- >”Try again Anonymous.” she says in a semi mocking tone.
- >You quickly try again with the same rune and letter.
- >”It didn't work the first time, why would it work the second?”
- >'She's got a point.'
- >Looking at the clock, you have 15 minutes left.
- >You make another letter and seal with a more descriptive magic rune in hopes that will change it.
- >'But what's the point... I'm not breathing fire...'
- >You have seen dragons, but never seen them breathe fire.
- >You look around the room as if to find some kind of saving grace.
- >Something to tell you the answer.
- >But you find nothing.
- >Your thoughts drift to having to return home soon, possibly never passing first grade magic.
- >You would have to deal with drunk griffons lighting matches near there beaks and blowing fire with how potent their alcohol is for entertainment...
- >You flip to the table of contents and look for fire.
- >Finding it, you flip to it and begin reading.
- >'okay this is normal fire, where's magic fire?'
- >You scan the few pages on fire, taking one last look at the clock.
- >7 minutes.
- >Panicking, you have to flip back a page.
- >'Magic fire. Blah blah blah blah blah... warming your tongue up, you can breathe many different-' you stop reading there.
- >Rushing, you spread a thin layer of magic on your tongue that begins to vibrate, making you feel even more awkward then before.
- >How to make fire?
- >'No time!'
- >You take a rather large breath of- not air, but elements. As your lungs fill, you can feel yourself going light headed.
- >You pick up the letter and exhale, causing your tongue to begin burning for real as a gray flame is shot out of your mouth, disintegrating the letter.
- >Going into a coughing fit eventually, you get over it as you lay your head down on the desk, looking at your approaching teacher.
- “I don't-” cough “Think I did it right.”
- >She responds by dropping a piece of paper on your desk.
- >Picking it up, you read it out loud.
- “Do I pass?”
- >”Yes Anonymous, you didn't make it to my desk, but your resourcefulness and determination is something I'm impressed with. Most students wouldn't even attempt to look through the book, and that fire breath was cleaver, but do me a favor and try not to do that inside again alright?”
- >The dizzy feeling dissipating, you nod your head as you look past your teacher.
- >A small burnt mark is in front of her desk.
- >”I'm glad you passed my tests. Even though I wouldn't have minded having the only non-unicorn in my class, I am glad you managed to pass.”
- >Twinkleshine presents her hoof in what you assume to be a handshake.
- >Awkward panic sets in as you have never shaken hands with a pony before.
- >Hooves...
- >Appendages...
- >But you wing it, grasping her hoof with your hand and giving it a shake.
- >”Now go enjoy your weekend, and good luck in second grade.”
- >You flash her a smile.
- “Thanks, I'm going to need it.”
- >Saying goodbye to your teacher, you walk into the hallway where Twilight is.
- >Looking around, you find Twilight leaned up against the wall...
- “Are you chewing on your hooves?”
- >She stops and removes her hooves from her mouth, looking at you.
- >Her mane is a bit of a mess, showing she's stressed.
- >”Anonymous! Did you pass?” she quickly hops to her hooves and fixes her mane.
- “Barely, I think.”
- >What you don't see is Twinkleshine heading back to her desk and writing a note.
- >”Improvised the 'letter by fire' spell, almost managed to cast it.”
- >She writes this next to your already passing grade before finishing the rest of the paper work clarifying you passed.
- >Next to her note, she puts down two teachers names, suggesting to put Anonymous in those classes.
- >Meanwhile, walking out of the school.
- >”What spell did she ask you to cast, and what happened to your face?” Twilight asks.
- “Letter by fire I think it was called, what do you mean what happened to my face?”
- >Twilight slows down a bit as both of you begin descending the stairs down to the streets.
- >”Letter by fire is a very advanced spell Anonymous... even I have trouble with it. Is that why you have dark spots on your face?”
- >Hearing this, you lift your shirt and wipe your face.
- >Your shirt is now covered in black as you walk down the street.
- “I'm gonna have to take a shower before we leave, when's the train?”
- >You stop in front of your place as Twilight looks up to you.
- >”In two hours, want to meet at the train station? Then you can tell me how the test went in more detail.”
- “Sure that sounds great, I'll see you then!” you wave Twilight goodbye as she begins to walk down the street to her place.
- >Heading up the stairs into your living arrangements for the time being, you dive into the bathroom.
- >Black stuff is still smeared on your face, wonderful.
- >What little facial hair you had is singed.
- >After seeing the damage to your face, you quickly take your clothes off and take a shower.
- >After scrubbing your face, you find yourself to smell a lot better, you're not sure how you missed that burnt smell.
- >You're pretty sure you may have damaged your noses ability to smell during that spell, best to ask Twilight about it.
- >Or maybe not worry about it at all, you can smell fine now...
- >Bah, over thinking things a bit.
- >Over thinking things that are small and unimportant... yet not thinking about things that are important, such as where are you supposed to stay during this weekend?
- >Finishing your shower, you hop out and begin to pack a backpack full of clothes.
- >With some room to spare, you put in some books and your recent notebook.
- >You love this little notebook, it's almost like a spell book, but with spells for you!
- >Such as fire and various runes!
- >But runes can't do everything for you, a delayed spell casted in a different way can only go so far...
- >Jotting down little notes about magic runes, you slide the note book into your bag.
- >With a bit more room to spare in the bag, you manage to fit in a rather thin blanket.
- >With your stuff packed and you recently showered, you grab a bag of coins and head out the door.
- >You could wait in your place until it's time to go, but you're a bit too restless for that, best to head to the train station...
- >To wait...
- >Your thinking may have a flaw, but i'ts better than sitting around doing nothing at the start.
- >Heading around the block, you begin heading to the train station. The signs along the way had helped, better then going off memory.
- >You rather enjoy Canterlot. Its busy streets, while filled with mostly upper class, is a nice change of pace from your home.
- >”Oh my! Do you see that creature over there?” You hear from behind you. “It looks hideous!”
- >Alright, this place sucks.
- >You hate upper-class types, they have no respect for others and have no idea how to close their mouth.
- >You take a deep breath, then see the train station growing closer.
- >Looking at the giant sign with a clock on it, it tells you the train leaving for Ponyville will begin boarding in one hour.
- >Walking up to the pony in the booth, you begin getting your ticket.
- “One ticket to P0nyville.”
- >The mare in the ticket booth looks at you for a brief moment before pressing a button and giving you the total.
- >”Ten bits please.”
- >Counting the coins out, you grab your ticket and give your thanks.
- >Taking a seat under some cover, you begin waiting.
- >Eventually boredom overcomes you. Pulling a book out, you give a quick look at the table of contents.
- >Nothing really pops out besides “Magic and how it effects us.”
- >Deciding it may be an interesting read, you flip to the page and begin reading.
- >While reading, a bit of purple catches your eye, causing you to look up.
- >”Hi Anonymous.” Twilight greeting you as she sets her bag down.
- “Hey Twilight.”
- >Taking a quick look at the clock, it tells you it's almost time to start boarding!
- >Putting your book away and making sure you have your ticket, you and Twilight make small talk.
- “You said you lived in Ponyville? Are you just staying at your parents place for school?”
- >”Yes, I could have stayed in the castle but I wanted to spend some time with my parents.”
- “Ah yes, benefits of being Celestia's student?”
- >Twilight gives you a confused look.
- >”Well kinda, but how did you know I was Celestia's student?”
- “When Celestia got me for the dragon egg test, she said 'my student,' we also talked the weekend before. She was looking for you at the library.”
- >Both of you go silent.
- >You notice Twilight is shuffling her hooves nervously.
- >You didn't say anything bad did you?
- >Wishing you had a talking brain right now so you could ask it, but you don't.
- “Hey,” Catching her attention, “What's wrong?”
- >Twilight looks around to see if there’s anyone nearby.
- >Getting the feeling it's a bit personal, you do a quick check yourself.
- >You really hope being Celestia's student isn't some kind of insult.
- >That would be silly.
- >Like talking ponies!
- >Small panic sets in as Twilight begins to speak.
- >”You must think it's silly, Celestias student having to retake magic school.”
- >This does not confirm your suspicions if being her student is a bad thing...
- “Nooo, surely there’s a reason for it.”
- >Twilight goes silent before looking up at you.
- >”I failed a test.”
- “A test?”
- >”Yes, with me being Celestia's student, I never got a chance to take the final for school, it got pushed back until several ponies running the school noticed.”
- “But how did you fail it?”
- >”I didn't study, I spent the night before rearranging the library which took longer then I thought. When it came time to take the test, I was drifting in and out of sleep, never finishing it. The school board was furious, Celestia's student barely staying awake in front of them while she takes a test. It was so embarrassing.”
- >Wrapping an arm around Twilight, you pull her in giving her a small hug.
- “Hey, stuff happens, you don't need to get so down about it. You're still Celestia's student, so it can't be all that bad, can it?”
- >Twilight gives this a bit of thought before looking up at you with a small smile.
- >”I guess you're right, I got to spend some time with my family and meet you after all.”
- >You return her smile with one of your own as you look into her violet eyes.
- >Time seems to stop as both of you share this moment.
- >But the moment is cut off as the trains horn signals that it's time to start boarding.
- >Both of you jump as you take a quick look around.
- >”Oh, we can get on the train now.” Twilight comments.
- >Removing your arm from around her, both of you gather your things and head to the train.
- >Giving your ticket over to a pony at the entrance of the train, he seems to look at you before shrugging and moving to the next pony in line.
- >Getting on the train, you head to the next car and grab your seat.
- >Pushing your bag under the seat, Twilight hops in the same seat next to you and pushes her saddle bag next to yours.
- >As you get comfortable, you can feel it coming.
- >Stretching you let out a rather loud yawn.
- >Twilight gives you a curious look.
- >”Are you tired?”
- “No. Just something about trains makes me sleepy, how long is the ride?”
- >”A few hours, why?”
- “Mind if I take a nap? Lately I have been feeling drained.”
- >”Not at all.”
- >With Twilight’s approval, you move around a bit so you're leaning against the wall.
- >Another big yawn, you feel yourself slip into sleeps embrace.
- >Strangely enough, you found yourself dreaming of rubbing a dogs belly.
