  1. Dear <your rep>,
  2.
  3. As my local representative in the House of Representatives, I hope that you and your party will oppose the Assistance and Access Bill for all the reasons which people more legally savvy than I have outlined during the PJCIS hearings, but also because of the damage its current form will cause to the local tech industry in which I participate.
  4.
  5. Iā€™m particularly concerned by the committee's recommendation to review the new legislation and hold further public hearings, after the Bill is passed by the Parliament.
  6.
  7. I understand that our police and intelligence service need to continuously be enabled to deal with new threats, but it does us a disservice as a liberal democracy to rush through legislation that adds new measures without appropriate review and which multiple technical and legal people have indicated are either not required, and may actually put internet communication at risk.
  8.
  9. Thanks for your consideration, and I hope that you and your colleagues in the ALP will reconsider your support for this bill until, at least, the PJCIS submissions have been properly reviewed and considered, and necessary amendments have been made.
  10.
  11. Warm Regards
