  3. Chapter 1
  4.
  5. >Cold. That's all it ever is now that winter is approaching. Cold and lonely. Your friends are busy or out of town for the holidays. But it's not like you had many anyway, you think to yourself.
  6. >You turn into your driveway and turn off the car. As you open the car door, a chilly gust blows upwards under your jacket, making you shudder slightly. You step out of your car and walk inside. At least work is over and you can enjoy some time to yourself. Not that time to yourself is a rare occurrence.
  7. >Stepping inside, you take off your jacket and kick off your shoes. You walk over to your computer desk and start browsing the web. Nothing important really comes up; you watch a few Youtube videos, check up on the forums and image boards you posted in earlier. How much time passes? Maybe an hour, more or less.
  8. >As you lazily browse the internet, an explosive noise wakes you from your stupor. You turn towards the source and see pinkish, purple light streaming in from your front window. At first, you're too scared to do anything, and the colored light fades gradually. Damn kids, what are they using flashbangs now? you think to yourself before turning back to your computer.
  9. >Just as you turn around, you hear a soft knock on your front door. Oh, so they want to apologize for scaring the hell out of me? you ponder, as you get up from your chair and walk to the threshold. You prepare your best disgruntled scowl to confront the kids who pulled this little stunt, and open the door.
  10. >The door swings open, but no one is there. At least not that you can see. You begin to look around, when suddenly...
  11. "Umm... excuse me... D-down here..."
  12. >A soft, female voice sounds from below. You look down and see what looks like a small horse, but it's like no horse you've ever seen before. It's coat is a solid cream yellow color, with a long, light pink mane.
  13. >The small horse looks up at you with big, sparkling blue eyes. As you stare at it, you can see that it's shivering. It starts to speak again, confirming your suspicion that it was just talking to you.
  14. "I-I'm so sorry i-if I d-disturbed you, sir. M-my name is F-F-Fluttershy, and..."
  15. >It... no, she pauses briefly to think of what she should say.
  16. "W-would you m-mind if I came in f-for a minute to g-g-get out of the cold, sir? I d-don't know where I am, and... it's f-freezing out here..."
  17. >She looks down and shivers again, looking as if she's ready to be denied. You feel a tug at your heartstrings; you can't just leave this little creature out in the cold all night.
  18. >"Uh, yeah, you can come in. Here." You move over to make room for her to walk past.
  19. >The horse looks up at you in disbelief, as if she was expecting you to say no ;a small smile forms on her face for half a second before she stops herself and walks past you inside. As she walks past, you note that she really is small, barely coming up to your midsection.
  20. "Oh, thank you so much sir! You're so kind, Mr..."
  21. >"Call me Anon," you reply. "And you're Fluttershy, right?"
  22. "Uh, yes, I'm Fluttershy... thank you so much again for letting me in."
  23. >As she talks, her mane falls in front of her face, as if she's hiding herself from you. FlutterSHY indeed, you think.
  24. >"It's OK, really. So, if you don't mind me asking, who are you? And... what are you?" you ask.
  25. "Oh, I'm sorry... I'm a pegasus. Do you not have pegasi in this world, Mr. Anon?"
  26. >"Mr. Anon is my father, just call me Anon. You're a pegasus, like a horse with wings? I don't see any..." you start to say, before looking again, and seeing a pair of wings folded against her back. "Oh, there they are... 'This world'? Where is your world then?" you ask.
  27. "Equestria, sir. But... I don't know how I got here... or where 'here' is..."
  28. >She looks down, sad and confused. She her begin to shiver again.
  29. >"Let me get you a blanket." you say.
  30.
  31. >Fluttershy snuggles up on your couch with the blanket you gave her. Her face looks more contented.
  32. "This blanket is very nice, thank you, sir..."
  33. >"Hey, enough with the 'sir', just call me Anon, OK?" you reply, sitting next to her.
  34. "Oh, I'm sorry... thank you, Anon..."
  35. >"It's no problem. So... tell me more about where you come from Fluttershy. What is Equestria?" you ask, genuinely curious.
  36. "Oh, it's a wonderful place! Sometimes scary things can happen, but I still love living there..."
  37. >You sit and listen to Fluttershy talk about her home, and about all her friends. As she talks about where she's from, she gets more and more excited, she lets the edges of the blanket fall from her hooves as she explains.
  38. >As she goes on, she stops getting more enthusiastic and then her face changes back to an expression of sadness and fear.
  39. "...And I hope I can go back soon... I hope I CAN go back soon... Now I'm here, in this cold, scary place, so far from home..."
  40. >You look at her face, and see tears welling up in her eyes. Not sure what else to do, you try to comfort her.
  41. >"Aww, it's alright, Fluttershy. If you can somehow wind up here, you can probably get home the same way you came."
  42. "But I don't know how I got here, Anon! I don't remember what happened, I just remember my home and my friends!"
  43. >She begins quietly sobbing, tears start to roll down her face as she puts her head in her hooves. The sight of such a sweet, adorable creature crying her eyes out practically shatters your heart.
  44. >You contemplate what to do to make her feel better. A hug? No, you just met, that's weird. And she's an animal... you think, at least. You do the only thing you can think of, and reach for her head. You start to lightly pet the top of her mane. "Hey... You'll be OK..."
  45. >Fluttershy stops sobbing. She turns her head slightly to look at you as you pet her, her eyes still wet with tears.
  46. "A-Anon... what are you doing...?"
  47. >"Uh, sorry, I was just... I'll stop..." you say, pulling your hand back.
  48. "No! ...I mean... I'm sorry... It feels nice... You can keep going..."
  49. >You move your hand back and start petting her mane again. Fluttershy completely stops crying and sits silently, letting you pet her.
  50. >"It's gonna be OK, Fluttershy... You can sleep here tonight, and we'll try to find you a way to get back to Equestria tomorrow, alright?" you try to reassure her, speaking in a comforting tone.
  51. "Do you... mean it?"
  52. >"Yeah, so... don't cry, OK?" you ask. You give the top of her head a light scratch, as if you were petting a dog.
  53. "Oh... thank you so much Anon... you're so kind."
  54. >"But you told me YOU were the Element of Kindness, Fluttershy." you tease. Fluttershy giggles softly and leans her head into your hand as you continue petting.
  55. >For a while, you both just sit on the couch in silence, you petting Fluttershy and her letting you pet her. Fluttershy looks up at you a few times, each time her face looks more and more contented. More and more sleepy as well.
  56. >After a short while more, she lays her head down on the couch, letting out a happy sigh and closing her eyes. A few moments more, and you hear her breathing slow, and she starts making cute little snores.
  57. >When you realize she's asleep you stop petting her, and pull the blanket over her. You gingerly lift her head to put a pillow under it, making sure not to disturb the couch cushions.
  58. >You leave the room quietly, turning back to watch her sleep for a moment. You're not sure you should have promised her you'd help get her home. If SHE doesn't know how she got here, how could you? But for now, you thank God that you won't be so lonely for a while.
  59.
  60.
  61. Chapter 2
  62.
  63. >You wake up slowly, sitting up in your bed and rub the sleep from your eyes. Was last night... a dream? You get up from your bed, still in your sleep shirt and boxers, when you suddenly hear a noise from down the hall that sounds like wings flapping.
  64. >You open up the door to your room, only to be greeted by a small, cream colored pony, flying just at eye level with you. For a second, you jump back, surprised at her being there. So it wasn't a dream...
  65. "Oh! I'm sorry, Anon, did I scare you? I woke up a little while ago, and I was waiting for you to wake up, too... I didn't want to disturb you, so I was just waiting."
  66. >"That's OK, Fluttershy. Heh, appreciate you letting me rest." you reply. So if what happened last night is real, that means you definitely promised to help her, too. Great.
  67. "I'm feeling a lot better too, Anon. I won't cry anymore, I promise."
  68. >"Well, good, glad to hear it. But uh... would you mind giving me some privacy for a while? I need a shower." you ask.
  69. >Fluttershy's cheeks turn pink.
  70. "O-oh, certainly, I'm sorry... I'll wait for you in the other room."
  71. >She turns and glides down the hall back to the room. She's a graceful thing, you think to yourself. You hop in the shower, and wash up extra well; you have a guest after all. You put on some fresh clothes and walk to the room where Fluttershy is. She's sitting on the couch again; she perks up when you enter the room.
  72. "Oh, good morning, Anon!"
  73. >"Morning. Did you want to use the shower next, Fluttershy?" you ask.
  74. "Um, that's OK. I can bathe in a spring or under a waterfall. Could we go to one?"
  75. >"...There aren't any springs or waterfalls near here, I'm afraid." you say, catching yourself before you grin at her naivete
  76. "Ohh... I see..."
  77. >She looks slightly disappointed. But then looks up at you again.
  78. "There's a lot I don't know about this world, it seems, Anon..."
  79. "Would you mind telling me all about your world? Since I told you about mine? ...If it's not too much trouble, I mean..."
  80. >"Well... I think the less you know about this world, the better. It's not a very happy place like yours..." you reply.
  81. "But... surely it's not that bad, is it?"
  82. >"Well... the short answer is 'yes', but it's... complicated." you answer, trying to skirt around anything that would make her uncomfortable.
  83. "I see... That's alright, Anon, you don't have to tell me right now."
  84. >"So, Fluttershy, is there anything you remember or can think of as to why or how you could end up here? Anything at all?"
  85. "Well... hmm..."
  86. >She scrunches her nose and puts her hoof under her chin.
  87. "The only thing I can think of is it has to be some sort of spell..."
  88. >"Spell? As in magic? Did your friend Twilight Sparkle have anything to do with it?" you ponder.
  89. "Oh, no, I don't think so. Twilight doesn't use magic just because..."
  90. >"You know other people... er, ponies who can use magic though, right? Could it have anything to do with them?"
  91. "Well... there's the other princesses... but I don't think they have anything to do with it, either."
  92. >"Hmmm... maybe it wasn't their magic that brought you here then." you conclude.
  93. "If it wasn't our magic... then maybe it was magic from your world, Anon!"
  94. >Fluttershy looks at you smiling, seeming proud that she came to the conclusion.
  95. >"Uh, Fluttershy..." you start. "Here in this world... magic doesn't exist..."
  96. "W-W-What?! But how? I saw all those buildings and those wheeled machines outside! Those aren't made from magic?"
  97. >She starts looking distressed.
  98. "B-But if there's no magic here... how will I get back home?"
  99. >"I... I don't know. But I'll still try to help you, alright?" you say as you sit next to her.
  100. >"Are you sure you can't remember anything about what happened before you came here?"
  101. "No... The last thing I remember was taking care of the animals before I..."
  102.
  103. "I remember something!"
  104. >"Great, what is it; what do you remember?" you ask.
  105. "I-I remember yesterday before I came here! I was taking care of all the animals. And I remember Angel Bunny not wanting to eat his breakfast, he's very picky, you know. So I went out to go get some special herbs for him, but you can only find them in the Everfree Forest!"
  106. >"That's the scary place you told me about, right? What happened next?"
  107. "I... I... I..can't remember what happened next... I'm so sorry..."
  108. >"Hey, it's OK. You don't have to remember everything all at once." you reply, giving her mane a playful scratch.
  109. >"Listen, why don't we do something fun for a while? Would you like that?"
  110. >Fluttershy nods.
  111. >"Let's watch some TV, what do you say?" you suggest.
  112. "Tee... vee?"
  113. >"Television, moving pictures and sound?"
  114. "Oh, right... I'm sorry."
  115. >"It's OK. Hey, you don't have to apologize so much, alright? We're cool."
  116. "Alright, I'm sor-... I mean, sure."
  117. >You chuckle to yourself, as you look for the remote and turn on the TV. The TV screen comes on. A box in the corner of the screen says "No Signal". Wonderful.
  118. >"Well... I guess we're not watching TV after all."
  119. "Oh, that's alright Anon. We don't have to do anything."
  120. >You think for a moment what you could do with her. You couldn't take her outside, people would ask questions. And probably call the government to report a flying, talking horse. Oh well, for now, you're starving.
  121. >"Let's have some breakfast, what do you say?"
  122. "Oh, that would be wonderful, Anon! What could we eat?"
  123. >You walk into the kitchen and check the pantry.
  124. >"Uhhh... I need to make a food run soon. All we have is bread and cereal. I don't suppose you can hold a spoon?" you ask. Fluttershy walks in after you, and holds up her hoof. You place a spoon on her hoof. It falls off after a few seconds and clanks on the floor.
  125. >You chuckle. "Guess not." You think for a second. "I have an idea."
  126. >You take out the bag of bread. Fluttershy cocks her head to the side and watches you as you make breakfast.
  127. "What are you making, Anon?"
  128. >"Heh, you'll see." You lightly butter 4 slices of bread, spread cinnamon and sugar on them, and put them on a pan. You put the pan in the oven and set the timer.
  129. >"It'll be ready in a little bit. Let's sit and chat while we wait, alright?"
  130. >Fluttershy nods and smiles. She hovers up slightly and sits herself down on one of the chairs with the grace of a dove. You sit across from her.
  131. >"Now, Fluttershy, I need to tell you. I don't think you're gonna be able to leave here until we find a way to get you home. If anyone else saw you, they'd try to take you away." you explain as if you're talking to a child.
  132. "Wh-What? Why would they want to take me away Anon?"
  133. >"Remember how I said this world isn't a very happy one? Well... it's because of humans. Like me."
  134. "Like you? But you're so nice and gentle, Anon! How could this world be a bad place?"
  135. >"Not every human is like me. In fact, a lot of humans are afraid of what they don't understand." you explain.
  136. "But why? Why would humans be afraid of me?"
  137. >"Well... because... I'll just say it's obvious you aren't from around here."
  138. "But... you told me before that there are ponies in this world, too..."
  139. >"There are, but they don't have wings. Or talk."
  140. "Oh... I understand... So others would consider me to be..."
  141. >"They would want to know where you come from, what you are, what you're made of..."
  142. "'What I'm made of...'? Oh... oh my..."
  143. >Fluttershy trembles slightly at the thought.
  144. "I'm glad that I wound up at your door then, Anon... If I tried talking to anyone else I'd be..."
  145. >Beep! Beep! Beep! The oven timer goes off, and you get up to turn it off. You take the pan out of the oven, and a sweet cinnamon smell quickly fills the room.
  146. "Mmm, it smells delicious, Anon. What is it?"
  147. >"Cinnamon toast, have you never had it before?" you ask her.
  148. "Well, I've had cinnamon buns and cinnamon cakes from Sugarcube Corner back home, but... not cinnamon toast."
  149. >"Here, try some." you say, putting a piece of toast on a plate and serving it to her.
  150. >She looks down at it and then leans her head down to the plate. She opens her mouth, takes a daintily small bite of the toast and begins chewing slowly. Her face lights up as she tastes it. She finishes chewing and swallows,
  151. "Oh, Anon, it's delicious! You have to tell me how you made it, Pinkie Pie would love this!"
  152. >"Ah... it's just bread, butter, sugar and cinnamon, no big deal..." you reply, feeling a bit flustered at her compliment for something so simple.
  153. "No need to be modest, Anon, this toast is heavenly! Do you have a cutie mark in baking?"
  154. >"A cutie... oh, yeah, you told me. No, humans don't get those."
  155. "You don't? Oh, my... Then... how do you know when you've found your true purpose in life?"
  156. >"Well... some humans' purpose isn't really clear to them for a lot of their life. And that's the way it is for me, too."
  157. "Oh, that's just awful! So you humans have no way of telling what you're meant to be?"
  158. >"Well... some humans believe in fate, that their destiny and place in the world is set. Me, I don't know if I believe that. Some people might take comfort in knowing they're destined for one thing and one thing only. But I don't really think that way..."
  159. "I never thought of it that way before... How terrible it must be to not ever be sure what your life's purpose is..."
  160. >"Well, I think as humans, we give our own lives purpose. We decide our own destiny, our own fate."
  161. "So... if humans were ponies... they'd decide what their cutie mark would be?"
  162. >"You chuckle at her remark. "Yeah, something like that."
  163. >Fluttershy looks up and into your eyes.
  164. "Do... you not know what your purpose is, Anon?"
  165. >Her question catches you off guard.
  166. >"W-Well... No... not really." you admit.
  167. "Oh, Anon. That's OK."
  168. >Fluttershy smiles.
  169. "You'll find out what your true purpose is sometime. I believe it."
  170. >Again, she catches you unaware. You weren't expecting such an understanding response from her. Usually when you admit this fact to others, they criticize you for being lazy or unambitious. But not Fluttershy. She's just... kind.
  171. >"...Thank... thanks, Fluttershy." you respond after a few seconds.
  172. "You're very welcome, Anon."
  173. >Fluttershy beams back at you again, then goes back to eating her toast. Despite eating with her mouth like an animal, she does so with grace and poise, not spilling a crumb.
  174. >You pick up your own slice of toast and take a bite. As you chew, you watch the cream colored pegasus in front of you thoroughly enjoying the simple meal you prepared. At first you were just thankful you weren't alone anymore, but now, you're thankful that you got to her before someone else did. You couldn't imagine what would have happened if someone else got her hands on her. You promise yourself right there that you'd do anything to keep her safe.
  175.
  176.
  177. Chapter 3
  178.
  179. >Fluttershy finishes her toast just as you take your last bite. She takes her plate in her mouth, and flies over to the sink to put it in. You swallow your last bite and take your plate as well.
  180. >"Fluttershy, I'm gonna need to go pretty soon. I have work today." you say.
  181. "Of course, Anon. I'll be alright, you go ahead and go."
  182. >"You sure you'll be OK? I can always call out if you don't want to be alone."
  183. "No, no, it's no trouble at all. You'd better get going, don't want to be late."
  184. >As she says this, she nudges you towards the front door.
  185. >"Alright, I'll be back home by 5. Will you really be OK until then?"
  186. "Anon, go on, silly!"
  187. >She laughs softly and playfully as she continues nudging you gently.
  188. >You laugh back at her, and put on your jacket.
  189. >"If anyone comes to the door, don't answer it, OK? And keep the blinds shut; we don't want anyone else seeing you, right?"
  190. "Right. I understand completely, Anon. Have a good day at work."
  191. >"...Thanks, Fluttershy. Stay safe."
  192. >You walk out the door, and look back. She's waving one of her front legs at you and smiling. Have a good day at work? you think. What is she, my wife? You feel oddly flustered as this thought crosses your mind, but you don't know why. You look back again and wave goodbye back at Fluttershy. You can't tell that well from the driveway, but... is she... blushing? No, couldn't be, you decide.
  193. >You get in your car, turn the ignition, and pull out of the driveway. Fluttershy looks right at you the whole time, and doesn't stop waving. How adorable, you think. She's like a puppy waiting for her master to come home. A warm smile creeps its way onto your face. Work may be hell, but if you get to see her smiling at you again when you get back home, it won't be so bad.
  194.
  195. >You finally are driving into your neighborhood, ready to return home from work and see your new house guest. You can't wait to see her again; you thought about her constantly while you were at work. You pull into your driveway, expecting to see Fluttershy waving at you from the front door. She isn't there. She must be inside.
  196. >You enter your house, and look around. Still don't see her. You walk into the living room and look at the couch where she was sleeping. Pillow, blanket... but no Fluttershy. You start to get slightly worried.
  197. >You look in your room. She isn't there. You look in the kitchen. She isn't there. You start silently panicking. You go through every other room in your house looking frantically for her.
  198. >"Fluttershy? Fluttershy?! Where are you?!" you call over and over as you search. Many thoughts run through your head as you look for her. Did she leave the house? Did someone find her and call animal control or the government? Is... she even real? Was she just a figment of your lonely, pitiful imagination the whole time?
  199. >You push the last two thoughts out of your head. You're not insane yet. Are you? You open the door to your backyard; it's the only place you haven't checked. The backdoor swings open and...
  200. >You see Fluttershy in your backyard, sitting in a corner of the yard near the fence. You sigh in relief, both from finding her, and knowing you aren't insane after all. But... what is she doing? She hears the door open and turns around.
  201. "Oh! Anon! You startled me. Welcome home!"
  202. >"Fluttershy, I... I asked you to stay inside... someone might see you..." you reply, somewhat out of breath from your search.
  203. >Fluttershy notices your concern and glides over to you quickly.
  204. "Oh my gosh, Anon, I am soooo so sorry that I made you worry about me! But I'm OK, really! I was just talking to some new friends."
  205. >"New... friends?" you ask.
  206. "Yes, I met them while you were away. Come on, I'll introduce you."
  207. >She flies over to the corner again, motioning for you to follow her, so you do. Where she was sitting, two squirrels are digging in the ground. When you come close, the squirrels notice you and run into the bushes.
  208. "Oh, wait! Samantha, Gregory, please don't be scared! This is my friend Anon. He's very kind and sweet. He won't hurt you, I promise."
  209. >Fluttershy comforts the squirrels with a soft, almost motherly tone. She told you before that she can communicate with smaller critters, but... is that really all there is to it?
  210. >The squirrels come out from the bushes slowly, and then climb up Fluttershy's mane. She giggles as they make their way to the top of her head, where they poke themselves out of her light pink hair.
  211. "Anon, this is Samantha, and this is Gregory. Samantha and Gregory, this is Anon."
  212. >She holds up one of her hooves and the squirrels hop onto it, and look up at you.
  213. "See? He's not so scary, is he?"
  214. The squirrels chitter back at Fluttershy, then she turns to you.
  215. "Samantha says 'It's nice to meet you, Anon!' Gregory however, is being very rude and calling you an evil giant."
  216. >Fluttershy glares at the squirrel on the right with a stare that looks like it could stop an oncoming train.
  217. >The squirrel on the right, recoils briefly, then straightens up and chitters at Fluttershy again.
  218. "Much nicer Gregory, thank you. Gregory says 'Yeah yeah, nice to meet ya, Anon, whatever.'"
  219. >"Well, uh... nice to meet you guys too..." you reply, a little weirded out by the fact that you're talking to a couple of squirrels.
  220. "Would you like to get to know them a little more, Anon? They've been living in your yard few a few months now, but you'd never even met!"
  221. >"Uhh... sure?" you reply.
  222. "Here, Anon. Hold out your hoo-... I mean, hands."
  223. >You hold your hands out, and Fluttershy lets the squirrels hop into both your hands, "Samantha" in your left, and "Gregory" in your right. You try to think of what to say, but nothing comes to mind. "Gregory" chitters again.
  224. "Gregory! You shouldn't say such awful things! Apologize to Anon, right now!"
  225. >Now Fluttershy sounds like a stern mother, disciplining her child. "Gregory" looks back at you and chitters again quietly, and some how you detect a hint of... remorse?
  226. "Gregory said something else very naughty, but now he says, 'Hey, uh, sorry 'bout what I said. You don't seem half bad, Anon.' We need to do something about your bad language, mister."
  227. >The squirrels chitter back and forth to each other, and then "Samantha" looks at you, as if asking a question.
  228. "Oh, Samantha says, 'Would it be alright if we came inside out of the cold, Mr. Anon?'"
  229. >"Ahh... No offense... Samantha... but I don't really want squirrels running around in my house." you reply... to the squirrel. "Samantha" looks down. Is she... sad?
  230. "Oh, I'm sorry, Samantha. I told you I didn't know if Anon would say yes."
  231. >Well, damn. Now you feel bad. For squirrels though? Whatever.
  232. >"Here, one second." you finally say, leaning down and letting the two squirrels off your hands gently. The squirrels go back to Fluttershy as you walk into the house.
  233. >You come back outside with an empty box, and a couple of old blankets.
  234. >Fluttershy seems to realize what you're doing, and her eyes sparkle at you.
  235. >"Here you go, guys. This should keep you warmer." you say. You lay the box down sideways, and lay the old blankets at the bottom. The two squirrels chitter excitedly and hop inside. They nuzzle against the blankets and look up at you again.
  236. "Oh, you're so wonderful, Anon! Samantha says 'Thank you so much! Now we won't have to sleep in the cold!' And Gregory says 'Ey, you're an alright guy after all, Anon!'"
  237. >"Heh, it's no problem. I couldn't just let you cute squirrelies be cold." you say, looking over at Fluttershy and smiling.
  238. >"Speaking of cold, we should get inside before it gets too dark."
  239. "Yes, you're right, Anon. Goodbye, Samantha! Goodbye, Gregory! Have a nice night, you two!"
  240. >Fluttershy waves at the two squirrels getting comfy in the box, and you follow her lead.
  241. >"Good night!" you say, as you and Fluttershy walk inside the house.
  242. "Anon, that was amazing. I haven't met anypony else who would care that much for little critters... besides well... me."
  243. >"Honestly... I had no idea what I was doing there, Fluttershy. You're the one that has a way with other animals."
  244. "Oh, Anon, don't be so modest, you're a natural."
  245. >"A natural? Nah, nah, I was just following your example." You look over at Fluttershy again. "You really ARE meant to be an animal caregiver, aren't you?"
  246. "Yes, I suppose I am. That is what this means, after all."
  247. >Fluttershy lifts her rump up slightly, indicating her cutie mark.
  248. >"Right. I think it's great you know what your purpose is."
  249. "Well, Anon... when we were talking about before about somepony not knowing what their life's purpose is... I started thinking about what you said"
  250. >"What do you mean?"
  251. "Did I tell you how I got my cutie mark, Anon? When I first came down to earth, I saw all the cute, little critters that lived there, and knew in my heart that it was my job to keep them safe. I knew right there that's where I belonged. In Equestria, everypony eventually finds their place in the world, and earns their cutie mark. But from what you told me, that's not how things work here..."
  252. >"No, it doesn't work that way..."
  253. "But I've been thinking, maybe that's not a bad thing. Maybe the way it works in Equestria is. I mean... I discovered what my life was going to be when I was a filly. Ever since I got my cutie mark, my life has revolved around my animals."
  254. >"Are you saying you don't want to take care of all those critters?"
  255. "Oh, no, of course not! I love all my animals, and even animals I haven't met yet. But... I've been thinking. What if that's not ALL I want my purpose to be?"
  256. >"Are you saying... you don't want to just be a caretaker forever?"
  257. "I... I don't know what I'm saying, honestly, Anon. It's been tough thinking about it. That's why when I saw Samantha and Gregory in your yard, I rushed to go and play with them. I was hoping having some fun with some cute critters would remind me of why I am who I am."
  258. >She looks up at you again.
  259. "Sorry again for going outside. I know you told me it might be dangerous."
  260. >"That's alright. Just be more careful, OK? And... don't think about this too much. Anyone who thinks too long about existential stuff like this ends up going crazy." you say, trying to smile to make her feel better. You reach down and pet her mane again.
  261. "It seems like you know just what to say, Anon... Thank you."
  262. >"It's OK. I got some groceries on my way home from work. Are you hungry?" you ask.
  263. >Fluttershy's tummy growls as if on cue. She looks up and nods.
  264. >"I'll make you something good, come on."
  265. >You and Fluttershy go into the kitchen, and you start preparing the meal.
  266.

  268. Chapter 4
  269.
  270. >Another new day. You wake up, and rub the sleep from your eyes. You and Fluttershy had such a fun time the night before. She helped you make dinner, and after the meal, you watched a movie together. During the scary parts, Fluttershy would move close to you and hug your arm tightly. And after the happy closing scene, she had the biggest smile on her face; it made you smile too, even though you'd seen the movie so many times before. After the movie, you just... sat and talked with her. What did you talk about? Nothing important. Life stories, jokes, whatever came to mind. While you talked, Fluttershy slowly moved onto your lap, and sat there, like a cat. You took it as an invitation to pet her, and she clearly wanted you to. You began to pet her, stroking her mane, and petting down her back. All the while, still talking with her, as if it wasn't anything special. Fluttershy got more and more relaxed as you pet her and spoke to her, until she eventually drifted off to dreamland. You sat there, watching her back move up and down as she breathed, and listening to her softly snoring. You eventually feel asleep as well, laying your head back and nodding off as Fluttershy snoozed on your lap. Despite sitting up on the couch, you slept quite comfortably.
  271. >Remembering the previous night makes you grin once again. You look down at your lap, and see Fluttershy still there, still letting out her adorable snores. You softly scratch her head.
  272. >"Hey, Flutters. It's morning." you say softly.
  273. >Fluttershy stirs, and opens her eyes slightly. Her eyes look up at you, and you see them twinkle in the morning light creeping in from the window.
  274. "Mmmhh... Good morning... Anon..."
  275. >As she speaks, she sits up and lets out a little yawn.
  276. "Did... you just call me 'Flutters'?"
  277. >"Yeah... I'm sorry, I won't call you that if you don't want-"
  278. "Anon... it's alright. I like it."
  279. >She looks up at you, clearly still half asleep.
  280. "Anon... I remember something else..."
  281. >"You remember something? About how you ended up here?" you ask.
  282. "Yes, Anon. As we were talking last night, I remembered..."
  283. >"Last night? Why didn't you tell me then?"
  284. "W-Well... we were having so much fun together. I decided it could wait until tomorrow..."
  285. >"So what do you remember, Fluttershy?"
  286. >She sits up slightly more, and rubs her eyes with her hoof.
  287. "I was going into the Everfree Forest to find some herbs for Angel Bunny's breakfast..."
  288. >"Yes, yes, I know. What happened next?"
  289. "I decided to go and see Zecora to get them. She has all kinds of ingredients in her hut, and then I wouldn't have had to look around the scary forest myself."
  290. >"Zecora, she's the zebra you mentioned before, right?"
  291. "Yes, she's very nice. I visit her sometimes when I need something for my animals, and she always has just what I'm looking for."
  292. >"Could she have something to do with how you came here?"
  293. "Maybe so... You see, Anon... You aren't the only who has doubts about their life. Back home, I wondered sometimes if my animals were my only life's purpose."
  294. >"You mean before you ever met me... you had your doubts?"
  295. "Yes, I did. And I decided to tell Zecora about it, and see if she had anything that could help me. A potion, or some kind of remedy for how I was feeling."
  296. >"So you mean..."
  297. "Zecora brewed a potion from a flower called Heart's Desire, and gave it to me. She said that this potion would show me what was missing in my life."
  298. >"So you drank it?"
  299. "I... I think so. But that's the last thing I remember before I found myself in front of your house."
  300. >"Could that really be it, though? If the potion was supposed to show you what was missing in your life, then... why would it send you here?" you ask.
  301. "I have no idea, Anon. Maybe something went wrong with the potion?"
  302. >"Maybe. But if not... then whatever you need must be in this world, not in your world." you conclude.
  303. "I... suppose that's the only other explanation..."
  304. >Fluttershy looks like she's thinking intensely.
  305. >"Could it maybe... nevermind..." you start.
  306. "What is it, Anon?"
  307. >"I don't know if it's possible, but... did the potion actually MEAN to send you... to me?"
  308. "W-What?! Do you really think that might be...?"
  309. >"I don't know, I was just thinking..."
  310. "Well... if it was... what you said... then... why?"
  311. >Fluttershy looks up at you again, a thoroughly confused look on her face.
  312. >"I... uh... don't ask me." you reply.
  313. >You both sit there in silence for a while.
  314. "Anon... can we go have some breakfast now?"
  315. >Startled slightly by her speaking from the long silence, you look at her and give a reassuring smile.
  316. >"Yeah, let's go whip something up."
  317. >Fluttershy smiles back, and flies off your lap. You both make your way to the kitchen.
  318. >"It's my day off today, Fluttershy. We have the whole day to spend together." you say.
  319. "That sounds wonderful, Anon! I can't wait!"
  320. >Fluttershy flits and flaps back and forth, placing a myriad of different ingredients on the counter for you to work with. You start to prepare breakfast, as Fluttershy watches and hands you the ingredients you need.
  321. >"So, you really don't mind if I call you Flutters? No offense, but it's easier to say than Fluttershy." you say.
  322. "None taken, Anon. I told you, I like it. Call me whatever you want."
  323. >She nuzzles her nose on your shoulder briefly, then goes back to helping you.
  324. >It's while you work to make breakfast together, that you realize Fluttershy has become more than just a kind, cute animal friend. But what exactly is she to you? And what are you to her? Only time will tell.
  325.
  326. "Wonderful breakfast again, Anon!"
  327. >"Come on, Flutters, I'm not that great of a cook. It was just pancakes." you reply, grinning from her compliment.
  328. "Oh, Anon, you really should stop selling yourself short. You should be proud when you do something well."
  329. >Fluttershy gives you an understanding smile. If anyone would know about self esteem issues, it would be her, you think.
  330. >"So Flutters, what would you like to do today? You have me for the whole day."
  331. "Hmmm... umm... Oh! Could we maybe, um, go outside and play with Samantha and Gregory? ...Or wait, I shouldn't be going outside in case somepony sees me right?"
  332. >"Some-person, but... yeah, it would be risky for you to go out in broad daylight." you reply.
  333. "Well... we could still watch them from the door, couldn't we?"
  334. >"You sure? Just sitting and watching?"
  335. "We sat and watched the, um... movie last night, right?"
  336. >You chuckle. "Yeah, I guess we did. Alright, let's go see what the squirrels are up to.
  337. >You grab some chairs from the kitchen and set them beside the back door. You open the door leaving only the glass screen closed, giving a good view of the back yard. You sit down in one, and Fluttershy softly lands herself in the other.
  338. >You both look outside, and see the box you laid out the night before, expecting to see the two squirrels come out. After a few minutes, nothing happens.
  339. "Anon... I think something is wrong."
  340. >"Really? They're not just sleeping?"
  341. "No, they should have been up a long time before us. Gregory told me they needed to dig up the acorns they buried in your yard for winter. I should go and check on them."
  342. >"No, Flutters, I'll go. Remember, we can't let anyone else see you."
  343. "Oh, right... please go see what's wrong then, Anon..."
  344. >You get up from your chair and open the glass screen, walking out into the yard. You slowly make your way to the small box. As you get closer, you make out... blood on the blankets...
  345. >You walk faster over to the box, and peer inside. You see the bloody remains of some predators meal that were once two little squirrels. You look away, horrified at the sight. Fluttershy sees your reaction and bursts through the doorway.
  346. "W-W-What's the matter, Anon?!"
  347. >You turn and see her. "Fluttershy! No, stop, go inside, someone will hear you!"
  348. >She goes past you and looks into the box. Her face drains away and she simply stands there staring at the box.
  349. >"Fluttershy... I'm so sorry... I think one of the neighbors cats or something got to them."
  350. >She's just standing there, not moving or blinking.
  351. >"Fluttershy? Fluttershy, are you OK?"
  352. >She suddenly flies swiftly back into the house, the door slams behind her. You run after her.
  353. >She's on her couch. Her head in her hooves. You hear her sobbing. Poor, sweet thing. Those squirrels were the only reminder she had of her life in her world. And now...
  354. >You sit next to her. She looks up at you, streams of tears across her face. You say nothing, she says nothing. You look deep into her crying eyes. Suddenly, you lean in, and hug her tightly. She starts sobbing again, and buries her head in your shoulder. You pick her up and place her in your lap.
  355. >"I'm so sorry... It's gonna be OK, Fluttershy... I promise... You'll be OK..." You softly comfort her as she cries into you. She tries to talk, but hiccups and sobs.
  356. >"Calm down, calm down..." you say, as you wipe her tears, and softly caress her muzzle.
  357. "I-I-It's s-so awful... G-Gregory and S-S-Samantha..."
  358. >She can barely form the words as she continues to cry. You don't know what else to do.
  359. >"Fluttershy... Fluttershy, look at me." you ask. She tries her best to stop sobbing and looks into your eyes.
  360. >"I know it's terrible... I know you really liked those squi-... Samantha and Gregory... but it'll be OK... I promise..." you give her a gentle squeeze as you promise her.
  361. "Anon... I know you're trying to help me... b-but I don't think you can. I know there's probably no way to get back to Equestria... I know that I'll never go back to Ponyville again..."
  362. >She starts crying again.
  363. "I'll never see my best friends again, and my animals will be all alone without anypony taking care of them... They... They might even end up like... Gregory and Sam-"
  364. >"STOP!" you yell suddenly. Fluttershy is startled and jumps slightly, whimpering softly after.
  365. >"Just... please, stop. It's not your fault this happened. It's not your fault you're here right now."
  366. "Anon, I-"
  367. >"Look... It's my fault that Gregory and Samantha are dead. I should have let them stay inside like you suggested."
  368. "No, Anon-"
  369. >"I've been trying so hard to help you, but I just made everything worse for you. I'm so sorry, Fluttershy..."
  370. >Tears start to sting your eyes and your voice turns shaky.
  371. "Anon, please-"
  372. >You set her down on the couch next to you. "I wish you had knocked on one of the neighbors doors. They would have been able to help you a hell of a lot better than me."
  373. >Fluttershy wipes her face with her hoof. She looks at you with disappointment in her eyes.
  374. "Do you mean that, Anon?"
  375. >"I... I don't know..." you reply; tears roll down your cheek as you try not to cry in front of her.
  376. >She puts her hoof on your cheek and lifts you up to look at her.
  377. "Anon... I don't wish I found some...person else to help me. Because I don't think they would have been as kind, as sweet, as selfless or as understanding as you are."
  378. >Fluttershy leans in close to you, and kisses your cheek gently. You look at her in surprise. All of a sudden, Fluttershy jumps back in your lap and hugs you with all her might, resting her head on your shoulder again.
  379. "You've done so much for me these past few days. I can never pay you back for all you've done."
  380. >You wrap your arms around her and hug her back.
  381. >"You just did, Flutters. You just did."
  382.
  383.
  384. Chapter 5
  385.
  386. >You dug a shallow grave for the two squirrels. Only a couple feet deep, but you didn't feel like digging too far, or you might break a water main. The "service" for the rodents was short. Fluttershy made her peace and let them go. You tried your best to empathize with her, even though you didn't even know these creatures existed until the day before.
  387. >Now, you both are inside, making some lunch. Just some grilled cheese sandwiches, nothing special. But it doesn't need to be special for her to enjoy it, you think to yourself.
  388. "A-Anon..."
  389. >Fluttershy has been mostly quiet since the "funeral". You turn to look at her.
  390. >"What's up, Flutters?"
  391. "I... um... I just want to say something... about... before..."
  392. >"What about 'before'?"
  393. "When you were... trying to comfort me, and you broke down, and then I..."
  394. >She blushes, a deep shade of pink covers her face.
  395. "...kissed you..."
  396. >"Oh, that... what about it?" you ask.
  397. "W-Well... I didn't think about it at the time... but it might have been... um... inappropriate of me..."
  398. >You stand there, not knowing how to respond. Fortunately, she continues.
  399. "Because, y-you know... We only met a few days ago and... you're a human... and I'm a... p-pony..."
  400. >"Hey... don't worry about it, it's fine..." you reply, trying your best not to come across as flustered, but knowing your face is betraying you.
  401. "Isn't it true in your world that kisses are for... your... very special somepony? Er, some-'person'?"
  402. >"Yeah... that's true. And I'm guessing it's the same for your world. But kisses can just be a friendly gesture too..."
  403. "Oh! O-Of course... well then..."
  404. >She looks away, almost seeming disappointed by your answer.
  405. >"Hey, don't work yourself up over it. Everyone does things they regret when they get emotional." you reply, giving her mane a playful flick.
  406. >Fluttershy doesn't respond at first, then flies at face level with you to look directly into your eyes.
  407. "Anon... I have another question for you..."
  408. "Anon... If I... um... nevermind..."
  409. >Fluttershy covers her face with her hooves.
  410. >"It's OK, go on." you reply.
  411. >She pokes her eye out from her hooves.
  412. "I-If... I were... a... a... h-human... w-w-would you... think any... d-differently about me?"
  413. >You freeze. What exactly does she... mean by this question?
  414. >"I... yeah, I probably would... I mean... if you were a human girl who wound up at my door, I probably would have called the cops..."
  415. "W-What about last night, Anon...? If I was a human... and I kissed you..."
  416. >"Fluttershy... are you..."
  417. >You catch the scent of something burning, then realize the grilled cheese you were cooking is burnt to a crisp by now.
  418. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, I was distracting you, Anon! Just... Nevermind, OK?"
  419. >You toss the burnt sandwich into the trash.
  420. >"No, it's alright. What were you going to say?" you ask.
  421. "Anon... how do you feel... about... me?"
  422. >"...How do I..." How DO you feel about her? What should you say? Why is she acting this way? Could it be that she...
  423. >You phone ringing breaks your line of thought. You answer it.
  424. >"Hello?"
  425. "Yes, is this Mr. Anon Ymous of 1234 Fakename Road/Lane/Parkway/Boulevard?"
  426. >"Yeah, that's me."
  427. "We received a report last night about a small unidentified creature which was sighted near your home, have you seen anything, sir?"
  428. >You freeze. You hold the phone to your ear and don't speak. The person on the line continues.
  429. "Sir? Hello? The creature was described as a small horse with feathered wings on its back, have you seen this thing, sir?"
  430. >"Who... who may I ask is calling?" you retort.
  431. "That information is on a need to know basis, sir. Please cooperate and tell us if you know anything. This call is being recorded."
  432. >You hang up. Your face is as pale as a sheet.
  433. "Anon? What's wrong?"
  434. >Fluttershy seems concerned from the look on your face. You look into her eyes with a serious expression.
  435. >"We need to go."
  436. "Go? Go where?"
  437. >"As far from here as we can."
  438.
  439. "Other humans... know I'm here?"
  440. >"Yes, they do. They're going to try to take you away. And then do... who knows what to you to figure out what you are."
  441. "B-But I'm just a pegasus! Th-That's all!"
  442. >"I told you, Fluttershy, humans are afraid of what they don't understand."
  443. >You are talking to her while cramming some supplies in your car, a few changes of clothes, some blankets, and food and drink. Thank God you went grocery shopping before. She's just standing out in the open, it doesn't matter if she's seen now. They're already coming for her.
  444. "Anon... where are we going to go?"
  445. >"I don't know where we're going, but we can't stay here. They'll find you if we do."
  446. "Who? Who's trying to find me, Anon?"
  447. >"They wouldn't tell me... And that means it's even worse."
  448. >Fluttershy looks down, scared and saddened. You go back to packing your car, and finally jam everything in.
  449. >"Alright, get in, Flutters."
  450. >Fluttershy glides into the front passenger seat, and you sit down in the drivers seat. You turn the ignition and pull out the driveway.
  451. >"We're going a couple towns over and staying in a hotel for a few days. Hopefully this will blow over while we're gone."
  452. "OK..."
  453. >She's looking out the window, being quiet as ever. You give her a gentle pet.
  454. >"I won't let them get you. I promise."
  455. >She looks a little better, but still stares out the window, looking at the houses go by as you drive.
  456. >Looking ahead in the road, you see something. After a few more seconds it comes into focus. A couple police cars. And a black limousine. It's a checkpoint. Damn.
  457. >At the next intersection, you turn right, hoping there's not another road block up ahead. You and Fluttershy sit in silence for a while.
  458. "I'm sorry, Anon... This is my fault..."
  459. >She startles you by speaking.
  460. >"No, don't say that, Flutters..."
  461. "But it is, Anon! You told me to stay inside... but I didn't listen..."
  462. >"It's alright. Don't beat yourself up. Whatever happens happens, we'll deal with it."
  463. >You give Fluttershy a reassuring smile, and check your mirrors. In your rearview, you see the same two police cars and the same black limo. They're a good 3 or 4 car lengths away, but it's clear that they're following you.
  464. >"Damn, damn!" you curse under your breath.
  465. >You speed up slightly, and turn again at the next intersection. The police and limo turn as well. The police cars turn on their sirens.
  466. "Anon... what's wrong?"
  467. >"Hold on tight, Fluttershy." you say. You speed up to a good 15 mph above the speed limit, trying to lose your pursuers.
  468. >Fluttershy looks back and sees.
  469. "A-Anon! They're chasing us!"
  470. >"Don't worry, I'll lose 'em." you reply, putting the pedal to the metal, the engine roars as the car lurches forward and speeds up. You turn onto the highway, avoiding the few cars on the road with you. The police cruisers and limo stay on your trail.
  471. >As you speed down the highway, you notice an old dirt road up ahead leading into the woods. Perfect. You brake and swerve onto the dirt road, skidding out slightly, but regaining control enough to accelerate again.
  472. "Anon, be careful! You could have an accident!"
  473. >"Everythings OK, Flutters, just hang on!"
  474. >You stare ahead to see what's coming up, hearing the sirens blare behind you as the pursuers turn onto the dirt road. Looking ahead, you see... the path ending with nothing but trees. Damn it... dead end.
  475.
  476. >You slow down, and come to a stop in front of the treeline. End of the road.
  477. "Anon? Wh-Wh-What's going to happen to me?"
  478. >Fluttershy trembles in the seat next to you.
  479. >"Fluttershy, listen. Stay in the car, and when I tell you, I want you to fly as far away from here as you can."
  480. "B-But, Anon... what about you?"
  481. >"Don't worry about me. You need to get away from these people. Understand?"
  482. >Fluttershy doesn't reply.
  483. >"Understand, Fluttershy?!" you say again more forcefully.
  484. "Y-Yes, Anon... I understand..."
  485. >"I'll be OK." you say, as you open the car door, and look out. The entourage stops in front of you, and officers get out of their cars. Out of the limousine comes a man in a suit. He adjusts his sunglasses before speaking.
  486. "Mr. Ymous. You are harboring a creature that is unknown by any of our scientists. Please give us the creature and we will not seek legal action against you."
  487. >"Her name is Fluttershy, and you assholes can't have her! Just leave us alone!" you yell.
  488. "Hard way it is then. Boys, search the vehicle."
  489. >The police officers move over to your car.
  490. >"NO! STAY AWAY FROM HER!!" you scream, running over and tackling the first officer you see.
  491. >What happens next is a blur. You throw punches and kicks to all the men in blue trying to get into the car, and they use their training to try and subdue you. Suddenly, a sharp pain in your side, followed by your muscles seizing and you falling to the ground. Were you... tazed?
  492. >You lie on the ground, in too much pain to get up, and see the officers opening the passenger side door. With all your remaining vigor, you cry out...
  493. >"FLUTTERSHY!! FLY AWAY!!!"
  494. >After a few seconds of nothing... a shrill scream comes from inside the car. The officer peeking inside is suddenly thrown back with significant force. The other officers look in to see how... and then are knocked back the same way. When all the officers are knocked out, Fluttershy bursts out from the car, with an expression of pure rage. You swear you can see fire actually burning in her eyes.
  495. "You meanies leave Anon ALONE!!!!"
  496. >The officers get up, and try to catch her, but she flies high into the air and delivers a swift kick to their jaw, one by one. The officers pull out their guns and begin firing at her, but she deftly dodges their shots, and bucks them all full force in the gut. The officers are down. You can't believe you're watching this. You never thought Fluttershy could do something like-
  497. >A gunshot. Followed by pain. From your abdomen. You look up and see the man in the suit holding a gun pointed at you.
  498. "We'll get you medical help. You'll need to be alive to face federal prosecution. We can now add assaulting law enforcement to your list of charges."
  499. >You look into the eyes of the suit. "Go... to... hell..."
  500. "STOP!!"
  501. >Fluttershy lands in front of you.
  502. "Don't take Anon! Take me!"
  503. >"No, Fluttersh- agh!" you try to stop her, but the pain from your wound is too severe.
  504. "'Fluttershy'? Is that what you call yourself? Are you surrendering then?"
  505. >Fluttershy looks at you, you see a tear roll down her face.
  506. "Yes! I am! Take me and do what ever you want to do with me, but leave poor Anon alone!"
  507. >"No, Fluttershy... Run... Fly away..." you say. You put your hand on your abdomen where you were shot. It comes back covered in blood.
  508. "But... before I go with you, let me tell Anon goodbye. Please..."
  509. >The suit looks down at both of you.
  510. "You have 60 seconds."
  511. >Fluttershy turns to you.
  512. >"Flutters... you have to get out of here..."
  513. "No, Anon! I won't leave you alone! You saved me, it's my turn to save you!"
  514. "Anon... this whole mess is my fault... please, I'll go with them and make it right."
  515. >"No... Fluttershy, they'll... do terrible things to you..."
  516. "I don't care! I want you to be safe."
  517. >"And I want YOU to be safe... so please... run..."
  518. "Anon... I... I don't want you to die..."
  519. >She leans in closer to you.
  520. "Anon, I... I love you..."
  521. >Fluttershy leans in and kisses you. On the lips. You're shocked at first, but then close your eyes, and kiss her back. For a second, your pain is gone, and it's just you and Fluttershy. She's a pony? You're a human? At this moment, those things don't matter. You're two souls who have finally found their bond with each other.
  522. "Disgusting..."
  523. >The suit looks at the scene with a revolted look on his face.
  524. "Your 60 seconds are up. Let's go."
  525. >Out of nowhere, a pinkish, purplish shaft of light appears from the ground you and Fluttershy are standing on. You find yourself unable to move, and it looks as if Fluttershy can't move either. The suit looks on in disbelief at what he's seeing, and pulls out his phone.
  526. "We need back up, repeat back up..."
  527. >The area fills with the colored light, which gets brighter and brighter until the whole forest is nothing but white. It's then that you notice you're still conscious. But... where is Fluttershy?
  528. >She told you she loved her. She kissed you in a way only someone who held deep affection would. Could it be true? You ponder for what seems like hours about what just happened, until the white light slowly fades and becomes all black.
  529. >Silence. Nothingness. You can't feel your body. You aren't even breathing. Are you... dead?
  530.
  531.
  532. Chapter 6
  533.
  534. >For a while, you spend time in this black void. If this is what being dead is like, it's pretty boring, you think to yourself.
  535. >Then, from out of nowhere, you hear a soft, still voice calling your name. You follow the sound of the voice, and see a light. The famous light at the end of the tunnel, no doubt. You follow the light, and it gets so bright its blinding. And suddenly, you can feel again. You feel what seems like grass on your back, you smell wildflowers nearby. But that's not all. You hear something too.
  536. >It's Fluttershy. She's calling your name. You try to open your eyes to see her, but it's difficult for some reason. You try your hardest to open them, and your eyelids slowly open as if you were waking from a coma.
  537. >As your eyelids slowly open, the sound of Fluttershy's voice gets louder.
  538. "...on... Anon... Anon! Anon!"
  539. >Your eyes open and you see Fluttershy looking down at you.
  540. >"...Flutter...shy...?"
  541. "Anon! You're awake!"
  542. >She jumps on your and hugs you tightly. As she hugs you, you notice she's at face level with you. Is she bigger somehow? Or are you...?
  543. "Fluttershy... this is the... human you told us about?"
  544. >An unknown female voice comes from nearby, Fluttershy looks over and responds.
  545. "Yes, girls! This is him!"
  546. "But... he's not a human..."
  547. >Another female voice. This one sounds a little gruffer.
  548. >You sit up slowly and rub your eyes with your arm. But as you do... you notice... was your arm always this hairy?
  549. >"Fluttershy... are you OK?" you ask.
  550. "Yes, Anon... I'm fine."
  551. "I don't understand, Fluttershy, dear. You told us this Anon was a human, but..."
  552. >Yet another voice. This one sounds very articulate. You rub your eyes again, and the world around you comes into focus.
  553. >You see Fluttershy sitting next to you. And nearby... a multitude of other ponies like her are watching the two of you. A pink one with a frizzy mane hops up and down excitedly.
  554. "Ooh! Ooh! He's finally awake!"
  555. >"Where... is this?" you ask to the group.
  556. "This is Equestria, Anon."
  557. >A purple pony with a horn and wings walks responds and moves closer to you.
  558. "And I'm Twilight Sparkle."
  559. >"Twilight..." Now you remember...
  560. >"Fluttershy told me about you. About all of you." you say.
  561. "She did? Why, Fluttershy, darling, you shouldn't have! All good things, I'm sure... uh, right?"
  562. >A white pony with a horn smiles sheepishly.
  563. >"You're... Rarity, right?"
  564. "Yes, dear, that is I!"
  565. >She does a flourish and whips her purple hair.
  566. "Aww, quit it, Rarity. You almost hit me in the face with your mane!"
  567. >A blue pegasus with rainbow colored hair glares at Rarity.
  568. "And you're... Rainbow Dash?" you say.
  569. "The one and only!"
  570. >She stretches her wings, and lifts her hoof, as if she's flexing.
  571. >Twilight, moves closer to Fluttershy and yourself.
  572. "The other introductions will have to wait, Anon. You... haven't noticed it yet?"
  573. >"Noticed what...?" you ask.
  574. "Just look at yourself, and you'll see what I mean..."
  575. >You notice a small pond nearby, and walk over to it... but walking feels... different. You look into the water and see... a pony looking back at you. You gasp and the pony in the pond gasps back. You start to look at your body, and realize what other changes have happened to you. You now have a pair of feathered wings coming out of your back, your hands and feet are gone, replaced by a set of hooves. You're not a human anymore. You're... a pegasus! How did this even happen?
  576. >"Wh-What the...? How the...?"
  577. "We were shocked too. From everything Fluttershy told us, you were human, but now..."
  578. >Twilight walks up next to you.
  579. "We need to go and see somepony who will know more about this."
  580.
  581. "So you're the one they call 'Anon'
  582. You're wondering where your body's gone?"
  583. >The zebra looks you over thoroughly. Her name is Zecora, if you remember Fluttershy's words about her.
  584. "Hmm it seems it went quite well.
  585. Another very successful spell."
  586. "'Spell'? What do you mean?"
  587. >Twilight and the rest all look confused.
  588. "Fluttershy, you remember, dear,
  589. when you came to me right here
  590. and asked about special brew
  591. that I could make that would help you?"
  592. "Yes, I remember, Zecora... You told me that the potion would take me to what was missing in my life."
  593. >Zecora smiles.
  594. "Well well well, did it not succeed?
  595. Have you not found what you need?"
  596. >"Are you saying... I'm what was missing in Fluttershy's life?" you ask.
  597. "It seems you still are quite befuddled.
  598. Pray tell, Anon, what gives you trouble?"
  599. >"But... how does that make sense?"
  600. "It's simple, when all's said and done.
  601. She needed not some 'thing', but some 'one'.
  602. Your souls, you see, are very linked.
  603. It is destiny, I think
  604. For the two of you to stay together
  605. You for her, her for you, forever and ever."
  606. >The orange pony with a cowboy hat... Applejack?... nudges Fluttershy.
  607. "Aww, sugarcube, ya went and found yourself a very special somepony! And Ah must say... he's a hayundsome thang..."
  608. "Oh... Oh my..."
  609. >Fluttershy blushes intensely, as her friends gazes move from her to you, back and forth. She walks towards you.
  610. "Um... Anon I... I didn't know that this would happen to you... I'm sorry that you..."
  611. >You lean in and plant a kiss on her lips. Everypony else lets out an "Aww" After a few seconds, you break the kiss.
  612. >"Fluttershy... this is the best thing to ever happen to me."
  613. "A-Anon..."
  614. >"No... YOU'RE the best thing that's ever happened to me."
  615. "Oh, Anon!"
  616. >She hugs you again, and you hug back.
  617. >"I never answered you before did I?"
  618. "Hmmm? When?"
  619. >"Back in the forest."
  620. "Oh... it's OK, Anon."
  621. >"Flutters?"
  622. "Yes?"
  623. >You move your hoof up to Fluttershy's mane, and pet gently.
  624. >"I love you, too."
  625.
  626. >You and Fluttershy have just come home to her cottage. Pinkie Pie threw a party to celebrate Fluttershy's return. It was also a welcome party for you. You met almost everypony in Ponyville at the party, and got to know all of Fluttershy's friends.
  627. "Oh, Anon, that was so much fun!"
  628. >"Yeah, you weren't kidding when you said Pinkie Pie throws great parties."
  629. >Fluttershy's animals all watch as you two make your way to the front door. You met them earlier. You'll probably never remember all the names Fluttershy had for them, though.
  630. "Anon... Twilight told me she was having a house built for you in Ponyville, but... for tonight, would you like to sleep here?"
  631. >"I would love to." you reply with a smile.
  632. >Fluttershy opens the door to her cottage. A mad looking Angel Bunny is waiting behind the door.
  633. "Oh, hello, Angel! Anon, would you mind waiting upstairs? I need to put Angel to bed."
  634. >"Sure, see you upstairs in a minute, Flutters."
  635. >You trot up the stairs. Wait a minute. You FLY up the stairs. You're a pegasus now, you got wings, why not use em?
  636. >You enter Fluttershy's bedroom, and lay down on the bed, thinking about all the fun you had today. Briefly, your mind wanders back to your world, the life you left behind. But compared to being here, with her, you wouldn't go back if someone paid you a million bits.
  637. "Hello, Anon."
  638. >"Oh, hey Flutters." you reply, watching her come into the room.
  639. "I hope you don't mind sleeping in the same bed. You could always sleep on the couch if you wanted."
  640. >"I don't mind it at all."
  641. "I was hoping you'd say that..."
  642. >She flies and swoops down, laying next to you on the bed.
  643. "Because I wasn't going to let you sleep on the couch."
  644. >You chuckle. "Being more assertive?"
  645. "Maaaybe."
  646. >You give her nose a boop, she giggles. You move close and hug her, she cuddles against you.
  647. "I love you, Anon."
  648. >"I love you too, Fluttershy."
  649.
  650. >You don't have a cutie mark. It was one of the things everyone at the party noticed first about you. After getting over the shock that you were once human, anyway. Twilight Sparkle was somewhat bewildered by the fact that you as an adult pony did not have a cutie mark. And you found it odd as well. But then you remembered. You were a human. Humans don't have cutie marks.
  651. >Why? As a human, you didn't know what your purpose was, as many humans don't. Some humans could discover their purpose early in life, some much later than others. Now you know that your purpose was not in your old life. It was here. In Equestria. With her.
  652. >But then you asked yourself, if I know my purpose, why no cutie mark? After some thought, you were reminded of something you told Fluttershy when you first met that at the time, you yourself didn't really believe. You told her that humans don't need the assurance of a permanent mark on their bodies to know what their purpose is. They just... know when they find it. You may be a full on pegasus now, but perhaps that part of your human nature will never go away.
  653. >It's not like you need the cutie mark. You know what it is you're meant for. Or should you say, WHO. And you're laying right across from her, watching her sleep, just as you did when you first found her. If only you had known then, that this timid little pegasus would be the love of your life.
  654. >You reach your hoof over and pet her mane softly. She sighs happily in her sleep. You smile, give her a kiss on the cheek, and roll over, sleep finally claiming you. You can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
  655.
  656. For you, and for Fluttershy.
  657.
  658.
  659. THE END... of part one.

  665. Part 2 - Equestria
  666.
  667.
  668. Chapter 7
  669.
  670.
  671. >Your eyes slowly open, and you begin to wake up. You sit up in your bed, letting the covers fall off you, stretching your front legs and smacking your lips.
  672. >It's been a month since you came to Equestria. And what a month it's been. Nothing particularly exciting, mind, but... it doesn't need to be.
  673. >You flap your wings, and hover out of bed, landing on your bedroom floor and walking to your bathroom sink. The feathers on the tip of your right wing haven't fully grown back yet. Rainbow Dash took you flying in volcano country a week or so ago. You're lucky you weren't burnt to a crisp.
  674. >You clasp your hoof around your toothbrush and begin to brush your teeth. You spit, and splash some water on your face from the faucet. You always thought it must be hard for ponies to do basic things like this with just hooves. But surprisingly, it's not to hard to get used to not having hands anymore, as your hooves are more manageable than they look.
  675. >You debate with yourself whether you should shower or not, then remember you went swimming with the CMC and Applejack at the pond near Sweetapple Acres last night. You're clean enough.
  676. >You're pulled from your thoughts from your doorbell ringing. You glide over to your front door and open it. It's a mailpony, you swear you've seen her before. There's no way you could forget those crossed eyes. Oh, yeah, she's the one you always see blending into the crowds of Ponyville. Dash told you her name before, what was it... Ditzy? No, that's not it.
  677. "Mail call for Anon!"
  678. >The mailpony produces a scroll from her saddle bag and gives it to you. What is this on the scroll... crumbs?
  679. "Have a super day!"
  680. >The mailpony flies away from your door and to the next house on the lane. You swear you see her pull a muffin from her saddlebag, but just brush it off.
  681. >You untie the ribbon around the scroll, and unfurl it.
  682.
  683. "To Anon,
  684.
  685. Your presence is requested in Canterlot for a ceremony in which you will be made a lawful citizen of the Land of Equestria.
  686. All your friends and loved ones are invited as well. The ceremony will be held tomorrow morning, just as the sun rises.
  687. We hope to make your acquaintance soon, my sister and I have heard much about you from Princess Twilight.
  688. I look forward to meeting a human turned pegasus.
  689.
  690. From the desk of,
  691.
  692. Princess Celestia"
  693.
  694. >A letter from the Princess herself? Wow. You knew the ceremony was coming, but you didn't expect to be notified so quickly. And by royalty, no less!
  695. >You trot over to your side table. You rifle through your bag of bits Twilight gave you when your house was completed. You didn't spend too much, but you hope you still have enough for a train ticket.
  696. "Anon? Are you home?"
  697. >You know that voice. Soft and gentle, like a summer breeze. You turn and see her in your doorway.
  698. >"Hey, Flutters."
  699. "Hi, Anon."
  700. >Fluttershy walks up to you, and nuzzles your nose, you nuzzle hers back.
  701. "Did you get your summons from the Princess?"
  702. >"Yeah, just now. You got one too?"
  703. "Oh, yes, Anon. Derpy just came by and delivered it to me."
  704. >"Derpy, that's her name!" you cry out. Fluttershy jumps a bit.
  705. >"Oh, sorry, Flutters... Didn't mean to scare you." you say.
  706. "It's alright, Nonny. I forgive you."
  707. >She gives you a peck on the cheek.
  708. "We'd better go to the train station to reserve our tickets. The train to Canterlot fills up fast."
  709. >You open the front door and motion forward.
  710. >"Lead the way, milady."
  711. >Fluttershy giggles.
  712. "Oh, my, such a gentlecolt!"
  713. >She glides out the door, and you follow after her. As you fly after Fluttershy, you're reminded at just how naturally flying came to you after you got your new body. You follow Fluttershy to the other side of Ponyville.
  714.
  715. >You and Fluttershy make your way to the train station, cutting through Ponyville Square. Other ponies wave hello as you pass, others talking to each other and going about their business. You wave back to as many as you can as you fly past. You were always pretty antisocial back in your world, but everyone here is just so friendly and civil, it really made you come out of your proverbial shell.
  716. >You pass by Sugarcube Corner, and see Pinkie Pie jumping around for no reason you can see. As usual. Fluttershy waves hello to Pinkie as you fly by her. Pinkie gasps and starts hopping after you both, somehow able to keep up with you despite you both flying fairly fast.
  717. "Heya, Fluttershy! Hiya, Anon! Where ya going, huh?"
  718. >"The train station, Pinkie. We're reserving tickets for the next train to Canterlot." you reply.
  719. >Pinkie lets out another gasp.
  720. "Canterlot?! So YOU guys got this letter too?"
  721. >Pinkie sticks her hoof in her mane, somehow still being able to keep up with you jumping on 3 legs, and produces a scroll similar to the one you got today.
  722. "Oh, you were invited to come to Anon's ceremony, Pinkie Pie?"
  723. >Fluttershy chimes in.
  724. "Yup-a-roonie! The letter said "ALL your friends would be invited", right? And I'm your friend, riiiiiiight, Anon?"
  725. >Pinkie looks at you expectantly, her eyes sparkling and her mouth smiling wide.
  726. >"Haha, of course, Pinkie. I guess that means we should all go and reserve our train tickets then." you say.
  727. "Ooh, ooh! We should go and pick up everypony else on our way there! Then we could ALL get our tickets!"
  728. "Um, Pinkie Pie... we really shouldn't waste too much time. The seats are filled up very quickly on the Canterlot Express."
  729. >Pinkie raspberries at Fluttershy.
  730. "We've never had a problem getting enough tickets before, Fluttershy. And besides, it'll be much faster getting everypony's ticket all at once anyway!"
  731. >Fluttershy puts her hoof to her chin, and ponders for a second. You both stop flying, and come to a stop, Pinkie Pie, stops hopping behind you and starts hopping in place beside you. Can she ever sit still?
  732. "Well... it's true it might be faster to get all the tickets at once... but if we take too long to find everypony, then they could all be gone by the time we make it..."
  733. >Fluttershy turns to you.
  734. "What do you think we should do, Anon?"
  735. >"What? Me?" you ask.
  736. "Duh, yeah you, silly! What should we do?"
  737. >Pinkie looks at you as well. Both Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie await your decision.
  738.
  739. >Will you...
  740.
  741. >A. Let everypony else get their own tickets and hightail it to the train station
  742.
  743. >or
  744.
  745. >B. Go and round up your friends to get their tickets all at once
  746.
  747. "Anon... I'll be fine with whatever you pick, I promise..."
  748. "Good, because he's OBVIOUSLY gonna pick the more fun option! More friends, more FUN!"
  749.
  750. >You chose: B.
  751.
  752. >"I guess... Let's go and find our friends." you decide.
  753. "Alllllright, Anon! Let's boogie-oogie!"
  754. >Pinkie Pie hops away, you and Fluttershy follow after her. You look to Fluttershy expecting her to be disappointed. She's smiling.
  755. "It's OK, Anon. I don't mind."
  756. >You smile back at her. You both keep following Pinkie Pie. You realize she's leading you to the Carousel Boutique. Oh, boy. Here we go.
  757.
  758. >Pinkie hops up to the front door of the boutique and rings the bell.
  759. "Rarityyyyyy! Are you heerrreeee?"
  760. "Just a minuuuute!"
  761. >A sing song reply comes through the door, you hear some shuffling. After a few seconds, the door swings open, and Rarity steps in the doorway.
  762. "Hello, Pinkie Pie; hello Fluttershy. Hello- *gasp*!"
  763. >When Rarity notices you, she gasps and fluffs her mane. She blinks her eyelashes and raises her right hoof in a pose that looks like she's modeling.
  764. "Why... hello there, Anon, dear... To what do I owe this visit?"
  765. >Ugh, great. Here she goes again. Every time you meet her, she tries to preen herself and flirt with you. Even though you told her so many times you're with Fluttershy, she just won't take the hint. Are you really that handsome a stallion?
  766. >"We're here to pick you up." you answer, trying not to acknowledge her behavior.
  767. "'Pick me up'? Why, Anon! So bold! Wouldn't it be better to wait... until we're alone?"
  768. "Hee hee, Rarity, you silly filly. Didn't you get your letter this morning?"
  769. >Pinkie holds up her letter again to show Rarity.
  770. "Ah! That's right, it's your citizenship ceremony tomorrow, isn't it, darling? You all are going to get your tickets to Canterlot, no?"
  771. >"Yeah... We're all going together to get them all at once. It was Pinkie's idea." You look over at Pinkie, she smiles. You swear you hear a squeaky toy noise when she grins.
  772. "Why of course I'll go with you! Just let me freshen up a bit first, I'll catch up with you all!"
  773. >Rarity winks at you, then shuts the door.
  774. >Pinkie nudges you in the side.
  775. "Ooh, Anon, I think Rarity liiiiikes you..."
  776. >Fluttershy, who has been quiet during the whole exchange, suddenly leans in, and glares at Pinkie Pie. There is it again. The stare.
  777. "Uh, oopsie... Sorry, Fluttershy."
  778. >"Flutters, it's OK. You know you're my one and only." you reassure her.
  779. >Fluttershy stops glaring at Pinkie.
  780. "I know, Anon... I trust you."
  781. >You never really see Fluttershy get jealous for you. Even though you know you'd never leave her... it's kind of cute.
  782. >The door to the boutique swings open again. Rarity comes through the door, with a substantial amount of makeup on, and a large sunhat.
  783. "I'm readyyyy! Let us go!"
  784. >Rarity sidles next to you.
  785. "Lead the way, Anon, darling..."
  786. >You roll your eyes over to Fluttershy, who giggles softly. Maybe now she feels proud that she landed a catch like you if somepony as picky as Rarity likes you?
  787. "Yo, guys!!"
  788. >A familiar, gruff female voice sounds from above. You see a colorful streak in the sky, it swoops down and lands in front of the group. Rainbow Dash pulls out her letter and shows you.
  789. "I've been looking all over for you! We gotta get our tickets for the train before they're all gone!"
  790. >"That's where we're heading, Dash. But first we need to go get Applejack." you reply.
  791. "Applejack?! She's over at Sweetapple Acres, that's clear across Ponyville! The train tickets are gonna be gone before you can get there and back!"
  792. >Fluttershy speaks up.
  793. "Um... Rainbow Dash... what if we flew there really quickly?"
  794. >Dash looks over at Fluttershy and half frowns.
  795. "No offense, Fluttershy, buuuut... you're not really used to flying that fast, are you?"
  796. "Well, no... but... I could try."
  797. >Rarity clears her throat.
  798. "A-HEM! Not all of us are blessed with wings here, Rainbow Dash."
  799. "Yeah, what about us?!"
  800. >Pinkie chimes in.
  801. >You think for a second. How should you handle this?
  802. >"OK, you guys. Here's what we'll do. Dash, you go ahead with Pinkie and Rarity to the train station. Fluttershy and I will fly over to Sweetapple Acres to get AJ." you explain.
  803. >Rainbow Dash scowls.
  804. "WHAT?! You're gonna let FLUTTERSHY go with you, Anon?! There's no WAY she can fly fast enough to get there and back in time!"
  805. >Fluttershy gasps, and looks down at the ground. Rarity glares at Rainbow.
  806. "Rainbow Dash! How incredibly uncouth!"
  807. "No... it's OK, Rarity, she's right. I know I'm not the fastest flier in Equestria..."
  808. >Fluttershy shrinks down, her mane falls over her face. You move over to her and put your hoof under her muzzle. You bring her face up to look at you.
  809. >"Flutters... I believe you could do it." you say reassuringly. You hear Pinkie Pie and Rarity "Awwww" simultaneously.
  810. >Fluttershy looks back into your eyes, a determined look shows up on her face.
  811. "Anon... Let's go."
  812. "You better wing it like you've never done before, Fluttershy! The tickets will be sold out in 20 minutes! Let's go get our tickets before they're gone, girls."
  813. >Rainbow Dash motions for Pinkie Pie and Rarity to follow her, as she rockets off to the train station. Pinkie revs up her legs and gallops after her, and Rarity follows suit.
  814. "See you at the train station, Anon, darling!"
  815. >Rarity winks at you again. You look back stone faced. You turn to Fluttershy.
  816. >"Let's fly." you say, spreading your wings.
  817. "I'll try my hardest, Anon."
  818. >Fluttershy opens her wings. You jump into the air and take off, Fluttershy does the same.
  819. >"I know you will, Flutters." you reply, right before you give your wings a flap and start speeding to Sweetapple Acres. You look back and see Fluttershy, keeping up with you, but looking as if she's straining her hardest to do so.
  820. >You pull back a bit, and fly at pace with Fluttershy.
  821. "Go... ahead, Anon... I can... keep... up..."
  822. >She says this between large gulps of air. She's trying her absolute hardest to keep up with you. You smile at her, and extend your front leg. She looks at your hoof for a second, then wraps her front leg around yours. You wink at her, and speed up, pulling Fluttershy along with you. She almost loses her grip on you, but hangs on tight.
  823. >"C'mon, Flutters! We're almost there!"
  824. >Fluttershy looks down again, then up at you. Her eyes gleam in the sunlight. After a few seconds, you're no longer pulling Fluttershy along. She's flying just as fast as you. You look back at her and smile. She smiles back, but her face still looks strained.
  825.
  826. >You both fly over the entrance to Sweetapple Acres, and over to the farmhouse. Applejack bursts through the front door.
  827. "Anon! Fluttershy! We're s'posed ta go and git our train tickets, raight? We better shake a hoof!"
  828. >"We don't have a lot of time, Applejack! We'll carry you there." you reply.
  829. "C-c-carry her?"
  830. >Fluttershy stammers back at you. She looks tired.
  831. >"We can do it, Flutters. Together." you say to her. You give her a kiss on the cheek. Fluttershy perks up.
  832. "Let's do it, Anon!"
  833. "Save the hanky panky fer later, you two. We got sum train tickets ta git!"
  834. >You nod at Applejack as you both hover down next to her. You both pull her up and hold her as steady as you can.
  835. "To the station! YEEE-HAW!!"
  836. >Applejack yells out as you both lift her in to the air, flying back to Ponyville as fast as you can with the extra baggage. You glance at Fluttershy. Sweat is dripping from her face, but she has a look of determination there as well.
  837. >You both carry Applejack through the town square, and see the train station in the distance.
  838. "We're almost there, y'all! Get along, little ponies!"
  839. >You and Fluttershy flap your wings as fast as you can, carrying the hollering cowpony to the station. You can make out Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash on the platform, and notice there's no line at the ticket booth. Did you make it in time?
  840. >You speed into the station and nearly crash into the wall before setting Applejack down and making your way to the ticket booth. You're out of breath from flying and carrying AJ as you step up to the window.
  841. >"Hahh... Hah... Three for... the next 6 am train... to Canterlot..." you say breathing heavily to the pony behind the window.
  842. "You're in luck, sir and madams! The very last seats on the Canterlot Express are yours. That'll be 20 bits each."
  843. >The ticket seller taps his hoof at the small opening, awaiting his payment. You reach for your bag of bits, but...
  844. >Your bits. You left them at home. Ponyfeathers. Man, pony swear words are weird.
  845. "Ah got it, sugarcube."
  846. >Applejack places a bag of bits on the booth.
  847. "Ya can pay me back later by helpin' with the next harvest, deal?"
  848. >"Thanks, Applejack..." you say.
  849. "Aww, shoot, t'ain't no thang, Anon. You and Fluttershy gave me a lift here, after all."
  850. >Fluttershy... you nearly forgot about her since your mind was on getting the tickets fast. You look over and see her. She looks like she's half dead, heaving her chest trying to catch her breath. It almost seems like even standing is too much for her right now. You trot over to her and lean against her.
  851. >"You alright, Flutters?" you ask, concerned.
  852. >She looks at you, and tries to force a smile.
  853. "Y... yes... Anon... I'm... OK..."
  854. >"I couldn't have gotten Applejack here without you, Flutters. You were amazing." you say, giving her mane a nuzzle.
  855. "Anon... you're... such a sweetheart..."
  856. >She's still out of breath, but looks so happy as she nuzzles you back. The other ponies come over to meet you; Rainbow Dash points her hoof to her mouth and sticks out her tongue.
  857. "Enough with the sappy stuff, you guys. You're gonna make me lose my breakfast."
  858. >Rarity and Pinkie Pie glare at Rainbow Dash for her attitude.
  859. "Congratulations on getting here in time, Anon! ...And you too, of course, Fluttershy dear."
  860. >Applejack looks over at Rarity. Rarity smiles sheepishly.
  861. "And we mustn't forgot about you, Applejack, ha ha ha..."
  862. "Naice ta see you too, Rarity. Seems laike ya ferget about everypony else whenever Anon's around."
  863. "Ooh! Ooh! I know why, I know why! Rarity likes Anon!"
  864. >Pinkie hops her way into the conversation, much to Rarity's dismay.
  865. "Why, Pinkie Pie! I greatly respect Anon and Fluttershy's relationship! Being friendly to a... handsome young stallion... is nothing but being polite!"
  866. >You notice Rarity's eyes shift back over to you as she says "handsome young stallion". And also can make out the briefest look of desire on her face.
  867. "Just keep yer eyes lookin' where they should, and everything'll be hunky dory."
  868. >Applejack says this to Rarity, then looks over at you and Fluttershy.
  869. "You two alraight? Ah'm powerful sorry about makin' ya carry me all that way."
  870. >Fluttershy has finally caught her breath.
  871. "We're fine, Applejack. It was no problem at all."
  872. "Listen, Fluttershy. Ah'm not the type to meddle in somepony's life like this but... is Rarity being all... 'friendly' with Anon botherin' you?"
  873. >You look over and wonder how Fluttershy will answer. It seems like she doesn't especially mind Rarity's "friendliness"... but what does she really think?
  874. "No, Applejack. I don't mind it. I know Anon loves me."
  875. >"You're darn right I do." you say, giving her a peck on the cheek. She giggles, and Applejack smiles at you.
  876. "Shoot, what am I worried about? Y'all are the perfect couple, ain't nothin' gonna tear you apart."
  877. >"Well, our seats are reserved for tomorrow morning now, at least. What's our departure time?"
  878. >You look down at your ticket.
  879. >"4 AM?!"
  880. "Well, duuuhhh, Anon! The Princess's letter said your ceremony is happening 'just as the sun rises'! That means just as you become a citizen of Equestria, Princess Celestia will RAISE THE SUN!!"
  881. >Pinkie raises her front legs up over her head as she yells.
  882. >"Oh... I get it. It's symbol, right? How it'll be my first day as an Equestrian citizen?"
  883. "You got it, Anon! And when you're a citizen... you can join me and the Wonderbolts!"
  884. >Rainbow Dash looks at you smiling wide.
  885. >"Ah ha... I told you I wasn't really sure about that, Dash..." you say.
  886. "Wha- Come ON, Anon! You're one of the best fliers I've seen in a long, long time!"
  887. >"No... I couldn't do that. Who'd help Flutters take care of her critters?" you reply, putting your front leg over Fluttershy's back.
  888. "Oh, Anon... I'd understand if you wanted to go."
  889. >You lean in and whisper, "I almost got the big sleep last time I went flying with Dash, I wanna stay alive..."
  890. >Fluttershy giggles. That wasn't a joke. You nearly became lava-fried pegasus on your last flight with Rainbow.
  891. "Ugh, whatever, Anon. But we could really use a pegasus with your raw talent. Anyways, I'll see you guys later, gotta fly!"
  892. >Dash takes off from the platform and speeds away.
  893. "Ooh, that reminds me! I gotta get back to Sugarcube Corner, me and the Cakes are baking a super scrumptious spread of sweets for your big day, Anon! Bye, everypony!"
  894. >Pinkie Pie hops away in a flash.
  895. "Ah better be moseyin' on back to Sweetapple Acres too, tamarrow may be a special day, but chores ain't gonna do themselves. See y'all tamarrow!"
  896. >Applejack hails a cab, and rides off, leaving you, Fluttershy and...
  897. "Anon, you simply must let me make you a dashing outfit for your ceremony!"
  898. >...Rarity. Sigh...
  899.
  900. Chapter 8
  901.
  902. >"I, uh... appreciate the thought, Rarity, but..."
  903. "No, no, no! I simply CAN'T have you going to such an important event without the proper attire, Anon darling!"
  904. >You look over at Fluttershy. She looks away for a second, then responds.
  905. "Well, Anon... This is an important event..."
  906. >"OK, if you say so, Flutters... Let's go."
  907. "Anon... I'll be taking your measurements, so it might be a while. Fluttershy dear, isn't it almost feeding time for your animals?"
  908. >Rarity looks over at Fluttershy, who gasps in realization.
  909. "Goodness, you're right, Rarity! I better hurry home before they get too hungry; Angel Bunny gets cranky without his lunch! I'll see you later, Nonny!"
  910. >Fluttershy gives you a kiss on the cheek, then flies away towards her cottage. Great, you think. Alone with Rarity.
  911. "Well, Anon? Care to escort me home?"
  912. >Rarity turns her head slightly and bats her eyelashes.
  913. >"I'm following you to your place of business. Not escorting you home." you reply matter-of-factly.
  914. "Ah ha ha, of course. Come then, Anon darling."
  915. >Rarity begins walking back to the Carousel Boutique, swaying her hips in front of you, trotting as daintily as she can manage. This if going to be a long afternoon, you think to yourself.
  916. >You follow Rarity to the Boutique and step into the store after her.
  917. "Go on ahead to the fitting room, Anon. I just need to freshen up a bit."
  918. >Rarity walks upstairs to her room, while you make your way to the fitting room. You go in and sit down on the pedestal. You sit and wait for Rarity to come in and do... Celestia knows what to you. Weird to think that you got used to using Princess Celestia as a replacement for God so quickly. But at least you know for a fact Celestia exists.
  919. >Rarity bursts through the door. She's no longer wearing her sunhat, and has taken her makeup off. Well, some of her makeup at least.
  920. "Alright, Anon darling. Step up there, and let me fetch my measuring tape."
  921. >You watch as Rarity's horn glows a soft blue, and a drawer nearby opens; the roll of measuring tape floats out surrounded by the same blue aura. Rarity makes the tape float near her head, and pulls out her glasses, putting them on with a flourish.
  922. "Now then, Anon, stay absolutely still, and we'll be done in a jiffy!"
  923. >"OK..." you reply, trying your best not to move a muscle. You definitely want this to be over fast.
  924. >Rarity wraps the tape around your front legs, and writes down your size on a nearby notepad, all with her telekinesis spell. That unicorn magic sure looks handy. Or... hoofy.
  925. >Rarity is quietly mumbling to herself as she wraps the tape around your midsection. You can make out numbers of the measurements she's taking... but also the occasional "Mmm" or "Oh my".
  926. >After a few more measures, Rarity rolls up the tape.
  927. "All do-one! Now that wasn't so bad, was it, Anon darling?"
  928. >"I guess..." you reply, stepping down from the pedestal.
  929. "I already have a FAB-bulous idea for your outfit, Anon. I'm pushing back all my other projects just to work on yours, dear."
  930. >"Again, Rarity, you really don't have to-"
  931. >Rarity puts her hoof against your muzzle.
  932. "Ah ah ah, I won't hear any of it, darling! It will be my pleasure."
  933. >No point in protesting. Don't look a gift hor-... pony... unicorn in the mouth.
  934. >"Ha, how could I say no to that? You're the Element of Generosity after all." you joke, hoping to find a way out of the conversation and leave.
  935. >Rarity turns and walks to the door out of the fitting room.
  936. "Would you care for some tea and cookies, Anon? You must be famished after this morning."
  937. >As if on cue, your stomach growls. "Ah heh. I might take some for the road."
  938. "Nonsense, Anon! You may be a customer, but you're also a guest."
  939. >You are pretty hungry considering you didn't eat breakfast. Eh, why not. "Alright, Rarity, whatever you say." you respond. You follow Rarity out of the fitting room.
  940.
  941. >Rarity places a saucer with a teacup in front of you as you sit at the table. You grab a cookie and pop in in your mouth as Rarity sits herself across from you.
  942. "Sooooo, how are you and Fluttershy doiiiing?"
  943. >You swallow the cookie and take a sip of tea.
  944. >"We're doing great, thanks." you reply, trying to be polite, but terse.
  945. "Well, let me just say that she's incredibly fortunate to have found you, Anon."
  946. >Rarity smiles and takes a small bite of a cookie she's floating in front of her.
  947. >"I'm lucky I found her, too. She makes my life worthwhile." you say, starting to open up a bit to Rarity's friendliness.
  948. "The last time Fluttershy and I went to the spa together, she simply couldn't STOP gushing about you, darling. I must admit... I'm just a tad bit... No, nevermind."
  949. >Rarity looks away briefly, her curled mane bouncing as she turns. She takes another dainty bite of her cookie.
  950. >"It's alright. What were you gonna say?" you ask.
  951. "You see... I'm just a bit, well... jealous of her. Of both of you, really. You're each other's very special somepony, and I'm really so happy for you both, but..."
  952. >Rarity's expression changes; she looks sad.
  953. "...I may have my friends, and my family... but it isn't the same as having a special somepony..."
  954. >You suddenly feel terrible. You didn't realize how lonely she was before now.
  955. >"Uh... if it makes you feel any better... I know how you feel, Rarity."
  956. >Rarity looks up at you, her eyes are wavering.
  957. "You do?"
  958. >"Of course I do. Before I met Fluttershy, back in my world, I was way more lonely. I had barely any friends, and didn't live near my family."
  959. "Why, Anon, that's horrible!"
  960. >"Looking back now... it kind of was. But here's the thing, Rarity. I'd like to say, 'Just keep hanging on, and you'll find your special somepony someday', but even though this world is a lot more ideal than my old one... I still don't think that would be realistic."
  961. >Rarity scrunches her face and pouts.
  962. "And THIS is supposed to make me feel better?"
  963. >"No, not that. What I was gonna say next might. Maybe." you reply.
  964. >Rarity nods and looks at you expectantly.
  965. >"How I dealt with not having anyone special in my life was simple. I gave up searching."
  966. "'Gave up'? And what would THAT accomplish?"
  967. >"Let me explain. I didn't give up on finding love. But I gave up searching for it. I kept my expectations low, and somewhere in my heart still hoped it would happen. But at the same time, I made peace with myself that it might never happen."
  968. "So... in other words... don't give up... but don't get your hopes up either... is that right?"
  969. >"Eh, close enough." you reply, giving a grin.
  970. "But there's one thing I don't understand, Anon."
  971. >"What is it?" you ask. Rarity slowly makes her way over to your side of the table.
  972. "How did you turn out to be so kind and understanding?"
  973. >Rarity smiles, her eyes sparkle at you.
  974. >"Ah ha... I don't know..." you respond, feeling your cheeks go red from her compliment.
  975. "Fluttershy must be the luckiest pony in Equestria to deserve somepony like you, Anon."
  976. >Rarity moves a little closer to you. For a few seconds, neither of you say anything. Then, out of nowhere, Rarity leans in and plants a kiss on your lips. It takes a couple seconds for you to realize what's happening before you pull away.
  977. >"Rarity, wha-..."
  978. >Rarity gasps, and steps back, her white face turning even more pale.
  979. "I... I... I'm so sorry, Anon... I-I don't know what came over me..."
  980. >She places her hooves on her face.
  981. "I can't believe I lost my composure... like that... I... Anon?"
  982. >"W-What?"
  983. "You... you won't tell Fluttershy about this, will you?"
  984. >"I... I gotta go."
  985. "Right, yes, of course. I'll... get to work on your outfit."
  986. >You both run in opposite directions, you out of the store, her upstairs to her room.
  987.
  988.
  989. Chapter 9
  990.
  991. >You fly back to your house as quick as you can. You open your front door and go inside, still dealing with what just happened. Rarity tried to... no, she DID kiss you. Why did this have to happen right before tomorrow of all days? You'll have to go back and see her to pick up your outfit, too. How the hay did you let this happen...?
  992. >Suddenly, the lights in your house turn on, and you hear the sound of a noise blower blaring loudly nearby. Your house is filled with streamers, balloons, and just-thrown confetti falling to the floor. You see Pinkie Pie in the center of it all holding the noisemaker and wearing a party hat.
  993. "SUR-PRIIIIISE! Happy pre-citizenship ceremony celebration, Anon!"
  994. >"P-Pinkie Pie, what the-... what are you doing in my house?"
  995. "Hehe, oh, Anon, you're so funny! I just told you, silly! This is your pre-citizenship ceremony celebration party! It's a party to celebrate the party that we'll have AFTER you become a citizen!"
  996. >Figures. Typicial Pinkie Pie.
  997. >"Uh, listen, Pinkie. I've kinda had a busy morning, and I'd rather just relax."
  998. >You look around and don't see anypony else. "And uh... there's nopony else here."
  999. "Of course, Anon, this is a private party! I'm about to go back to Sugarcube Corner soon to start making the treats for your citizenship party tomorrow."
1000. >"So... you threw a party... just for me to be at by myself..." you conclude.
1001. "No no no, Anon! This party wasn't MY idea..."
1002. "...It was my idea, Nonny."
1003. >Fluttershy walks into the room behind Pinkie Pie.
  1004. >"Flutters?"
1005. "I thought it would be nice for us to celebrate together. Without everypony else around. Um, no offense, Pinkie Pie."
1006. "Noooone taken! Well, I'll leave you two alone now, buh-bye, Anon; bye Fluttershy!"
1007. >Pinkie hops out of the house, the door closes behind her.
1008. >"What did you have in mind for us to do, Flutters?" you ask, you head still turned to the door.
1009. >You then feel something soft wrap around your neck and shoulders, and realize it's Fluttershy's mane. Her face nuzzles against yours as she wraps her mane around you.
1010. "Whatever you want to do is fine, Anon... but... if you don't have any other ideas... we could snuggle on the couch together..."
1011. >Fluttershy kisses your cheek. As she does, you remember what happened at the Boutique and pull away.
1012. >"Oh, we don't have to do that, Flutters, heh heh... how about we play... Pin the Tail on the Pony?" you ask, stepping away from Fluttershy, her mane falling off you.
1013. "Anon? Are you feeling alright?"
1014. >Sigh. You just can't pull the wool over her eyes, can you?
  1015. >"I'm, well..."
1016. "What's the matter, Anon? Do... do you not want to snuggle with me?"
1017. >"No, no! It's not that at all?"
1018. "Then what is it Anon? Will you please tell me?"
1019. >She moves closer and puts her hoof on your cheek.
  1020.
1021. >What will you do? Will you...
  1022.
1023. >A. Tell her straight about Rarity kissing you (Tell the truth)
  1024.
1025. >B. Tell her not so straight (Lie)
  1026.
  1027.
1028. >You have chosen: A: Tell the truth
  1029.
1030. >You reach your front leg up and pull down Fluttershy's hoof from your face.
1031. >"Fluttershy... something happened at the Carousel Boutique..." you admit.
1032. "What?! What happened, is Rarity alright?"
1033. >"Rarity is fi-... alright. See, she actually..." you stop. Fluttershy frowns.
1034. "Anon? It's OK, you can finish."
1035. >"She kissed me. On the lips. She invited me for tea and cookies, I didn't want to be rude, we started talking about some... things and... then... yeah..." you let it all out.
1036. >Fluttershy backs away a bit. Her face looks blank. After a few seconds, she speaks.
  1037. "Did you enjoy it?"
  1038. >"What?"
1039. "Did you enjoy your time with Rarity?"
1040. >"Fluttershy, my little pony, you know that I only love y-"
1041. "Anon... Tell me please... and be honest."
1042. >She speaks softly, but sternly. You think about what you should say. Did... you enjoy it? It certainly wasn't an... awful experience. Except for the obvious.
1043. >"If you want my honest answer... I found out something about Rarity today that I related to, and I tried to give her some advice about it. Then out of nowhere, she's kissing me. I didn't want that to happen... but having an actual conversation with her was nice... I think Rarity knows she did something wrong too, so... please don't be mad at her."
  1044. >Fluttershy looks away for a second.
1045. "Rarity probably asked you not to tell me about it, didn't she?"
1046. >"...She did..." Uh oh. You hope you didn't betray anypony's trust.
1047. "Anon... you did the right thing. Rarity might have forgotten this in the moment, but both her and I learned a long time ago, friends don't keep secrets, especially not about how they really feel."
  1048. >"Fluttershy..."
1049. "Thank you for being honest with me, Anon. I know it couldn't have been easy. And don't worry. I still love you too."
1050. >Fluttershy sits on her haunches and hugs you with her front legs.
1051. >"You're really not mad, Fluttershy?" you ask as she embraces you.
1052. "No, Nonny, it's alright. We can talk to Rarity about it later. Tonight is about you and I, remember?"
  1053. >You smile. "You're amazing, Flutters."
1054. >She looks into your eyes.
1055. "Anon... do you want to snuggle now?"
1056. >You peck her on the cheek. "You have to ask?"
1057. >Fluttershy giggles, as you both make your way over to your couch. You sit close to each other; Fluttershy hugs you again, and you wrap your front legs around her and hug back. Her mane falls over your shoulders again. You stroke her mane with your hoof as you lean in and kiss her. Fluttershy sighs softly into the kiss as you caress her pink hair. Her hooves begin to move and rub your lower back. Now it's your turn to sigh as Fluttershy massages you. You both break the kiss and nuzzle your muzzles, pulling each other closer. She giggles softly as your bodies touch.
1058. "See, Anon? This is why I'm not angry with you. You show how much you love me with everything you have."
1059. >"I'm just giving back what I receive from you." you reply, giving her a warm smile.
1060. >Fluttershy blushes intensely as her expression changes to one of pure bliss.
1061. "You know, Anon... when you become a citizen... we could... um... actually, nevermind... Let's just enjoy tonight."
1062. >"Of course, Flutters." you reply, going back to petting her mane. She closes her eyes and smiles wide, leaning in close again, lips pursed. You take her invitation and kiss her once more, embracing each other again.
1063. >You do wonder what Fluttershy was going to say just now... but right now, you just want to be with her. You both had quite a day today. But it's comforting for you to know whatever happens, she'll always love you.
  1064.

  1066. Chapter 10
  1067.
  1068.
1069. >A loud noise wakes you from your peaceful rest. It sounds like somepony is trying to break your door in, you think. You and Fluttershy moved up to your bedroom last night and fell asleep together in your bed. She's still asleep on you, her front legs wrapped around your midsection.
1070. >"Flutters... wake up, sweetheart..." you say, patting her head.
1071. >Fluttershy stirs and grunts softly. Her eyes open and look up at you.
  1072. "Morning... Nonny..."
1073. >"It's still nighttime, Flutters. Somepony's at the door."
  1074. "Mmm..."
  1075. >Fluttershy rubs her eyes.
1076. "It might be our friends.... to pick us up..."
1077. >You suddenly realize, and fully wake up.
1078. >"The ceremony! We need to get up, Flutters."
1079. >You jump out of bed, the covers flying off with you. Fluttershy flinches, then moves to get out of bed as well.
1080. "I'll be down in a minute, Nonny. I just need to..."
1081. >She pauses to let out a soft, adorable yawn.
  1082. "...brush my mane."
1083. >"OK, see you in a bit, Flutters." you say, heading out your bedroom door, and making your way to the front door. You open the door and see your friends, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash. But where's...?
1084. "Morning, Anon! Are ya ready to go for your big day?"
1085. >Pinkie says, giving her trademark Pinkie grin.
1086. >"Yeah, we're just about ready, Pinkie. Fluttershy will be here in just a second." you reply.
1087. "Well, tell her to hurry up! We gotta go quick, or we'll lose the best seats on the train!"
1088. >Rainbow Dash says, flying slightly above the group.
1089. "Now, Rainbow, as long as we git there before the train leaves, we're faine. We still got half an hour."
1090. >Applejack says. Dash rolls her eyes, but doesn't retort.
1091. >"Hey, guys... uh, where is Rarity?" you ask.
1092. "Well, Anon... we traied ta go and git her earlier, but... she's wouldn't come with us."
  1093. >AJ replies.
1094. >Oh. She probably still feels bad about what happened yesterday, you think.
  1095. "I'm here, everypony!"
1096. >Fluttershy comes up behind you and stands next to you.
  1097. "Morning, girls."
  1098. "Mornin', Fluttershy."
1099. >Applejack says. She then looks back at you.
1100. "I don't raightly know what kinda thing happened yesterday between you and Rarity, Anon... but she seemed awful guilty."
  1101. >Fluttershy gasps.
1102. "She does? Oh, she must feel terrible... We should go to her and-"
1103. "AJ was just telling Anon we already tried to get her, Fluttershy. She wouldn't even open her front door!"
  1104. >Rainbow Dash interrupts.
1105. >"She might come out if Fluttershy and I were there. Or maybe she'd barricade herself in more..." you think out loud.
1106. "Whut in Equestria even happened yesterday, Anon? Did Rarity try ta...?"
1107. >"AJ, let's try to go see her. We'll tell you on the way there." you respond.
  1108. >Rainbow groans loudly.
1109. "UUGHH! We have to wait on somepony AGAIN?!"
1110. "It's OK this time, Dashie! We got looaaads of time before the train leaves!"
1111. >Pinkie Pie beams. Applejack speaks up.
1112. "Ah wouldn't say we got 'loads' of taime. But... it's worth a try. Ain't nothin' gettin' done by us standing here chewin' the hay. Come on, everypony, let's git!"
1113. >You and Fluttershy join the group and make your way to the Carousel Boutique. On the way, you tell the others about the situation yesterday. Applejack takes it better than you thought she would, especially when you explain the context, and Fluttershy adds she's not angry. You step up to the front door of the Boutique, and knock.
1114. "Applejack, I already asked you to leave me be! Anon and Fluttershy won't want me to come!"
1115. >Rarity's voice sounds through the door. It sounds shaky, not like her usual well spoken demeanor.
1116. >"Rarity... will you please come with us?" you call through the door.
1117. >A moment of silence from the other side.
  1118. "Anon? You're... here?"
1119. "I'm here too, Rarity! Don't be sad, Anon and I forgive you, so... please come with us!"
1120. >Fluttershy calls through the door.
1121. >Another long silence. Then the door swings open. Rarity stands in the door, her eyes wet with tears.
  1122. "R...really?"
1123. >"Yes, really, Rarity. We both understand you made a mistake. And we forgive you." you say to her.
1124. >Rarity stands there for a moment, her bottom lip begins to quiver. She then leaps from her doorway and practically throws herself onto Fluttershy, crying over her shoulder.
1125. "Oh, Fluttershy, I'm so so sorryyyy!"
1126. >Fluttershy doesn't bat an eye, and pats Rarity's back with her hoof.
1127. "There, there. We already said we forgive you, Rarity, it's OK."
1128. >Rarity sniffles, she steps away from Fluttershy and blows her nose. Where'd she get the hankie? you ponder.
1129. "Oh, it's such a relief to be forgiven! I was certainly regretful for what I had done... but I was even more sad that it might have cost me my best friend."
1130. "We all make mistakes, Rarity. But we all stay friends just the same."
1131. >Fluttershy says, then leans in to hug her friend. Rarity hugs her back.
1132. >"And I'd be more than happy to come by and talk whenever you want, Rarity." you say, joining in the hug.
  1133. "GROUP HUG!"
1134. >Pinkie Pie shouts, as she pulls in everypony else there to the hug.
1135. "Alright, alright, the love fest is over with. Can we PLEASE go to the train station now??"
1136. >Rainbow Dash says, worming her way out of the group hug.
1137. >"Yeah, we should get going, I guess. Ready, Rarity?" you ask.
1138. "Oh, uh... just give me a few seconds to freshen up and..."
  1139. >Rarity gasps.
1140. "I nearly forgot! Anon, I finished your new outfit! Come in and try it on, quickly now!"
1141. >Rarity ducks back into the Boutique, and you follow. You hear Rainbow Dash impatiently groaning again as you go inside.
  1142. "Here it iiiiisss!"
1143. >Rarity pulls back a curtain, and reveals the outfit she made for you. A dapper looking suit fitted with small diamond studs. A little... flashy for your tastes. But Rarity knows fashion more than you; for all you know, it could be the next big thing.
1144. "What do you think? Do you love it?"
  1145. >"Its great, Rarity. Thanks."
1146. "Anything for a good friend!"
  1147. >Rarity says smiling.
  1148.
  1149.
  1150. Chapter 11
  1151.
1152. >You're sitting on the train surrounded by your friends. The suit Rarity made for you is a little uncomfortable for you to sit it, but it's nothing unbearable. At least you have your friends and your lover by your side. You look out the window at the mountains rolling by as the train speeds along the tracks.
1153. >You listen to your friends talking with each other about their plans to celebrate your citizenship. You smile. Having so many great friends who are so happy for you is the best feeling in the world. Besides being with your Flutters.
1154. >Fluttershy is sitting next to you, quietly listening along with you. Rarity sits across from you both, her head leaned back into her fluffy neck pillow. "A lady must get her beauty rest" she said. You can't blame her, after how she must have been stressing out last night. You're pretty tired too, considering your sleep schedule was cut in half for today.
  1155. "Are you nervous, Anon?"
1156. >Fluttershy's question pulls you from your thoughts.
1157. >"Nah, I'm not nervous. I remember what I'm supposed to do." you reply.
1158. "Twilight says it's been hundreds of years since this ceremony has been done. I hope nothing happens."
1159. >"Hey, I thought I was supposed to be the nervous one. All that happens is the princess asks for a loved one to vouch for me, and I name you. Everything'll be alright." you say, putting your hoof against hers.
1160. "Oh... you're right, Anon... I guess I'm just afraid... I'm not good in front of large crowds..."
1161. >"You'll be standing right next to me, Flutters. You'll be fine."
1162. >You nuzzle her reassuringly. She leans onto your shoulder, and you lean your head back onto your seat. You decide to rest your eyes before you get to Canterlot. Don't want to look tired in front of the Princesses.
1163. >Your mind wanders to some of the stories your friends have told you about Princess Celestia and Luna. Despite your bravado, you are a bit nervous to meet them, but excited as well.
  1164.
1165. >You're making your way to Canterlot Castle, walking through the streets of the castle town. You're friends promised to give you a tour after the ceremony is over, and from what you're seeing, you already have a lot of destinations in mind.
1166. >Finally, you're there. The front gate to Canterlot Castle. Two royal guards stand near the gate. You and the group walk towards the gate. One of the guards addresses you.
1167. "Halt! State your name and business."
1168. >"I'm Anon, and we're here for my citizenship ceremony." you state.
1169. "One moment, sir and madams. We must wait for the Princess's verification."
1170. >The guard says. Rainbow Dash growls.
1171. "Uh, hell-OOO?! We're the ponies who save Equestria on a regular basis? And one of the princesses is our FRIEND?! Let us in already!"
1172. "Quiet, Rainbow. Unless ya wanna git us arrested fer disturbin' the peace."
  1173. >Applejack says.
1174. "If these chumps don't let us through, I'll disturb THEIR peace..."
  1175. >Dash mutters.
  1176. "Hang on, guys!"
1177. >You hear a voice from beyond the gate, coming towards you. You look behind the guards and see the owner of the voice. It's Spike, Twilight's small dragon assistant, and he looks like he's holding something in his claw.
1178. >Spike runs up to the gate and sticks the parchment he's holding through.
  1179. "From Princess Twilight."
1180. >The guard reads the parchment, and takes another look at you and your entourage.
1181. "Princess Twilight has given you permission to enter."
1182. >The guards step aside and open the gate with their magic. You and your friends walk inside.
1183. "Sheesh, what's with the beefed up security all of a sudden? We never had this hard a time getting into the castle before."
  1184. >Dash wonders aloud.
1185. "Well, Rainbow Dash, you know Twilight. She probably just wants to make sure everything goes perfectly today, considering this ceremony hasn't been performed in centuries."
  1186. >Rarity answers.
1187. >A bit much for a small ceremony. Could something else be going on? you think.
1188. >Spike runs to catch up with you and the group.
1189. "Hey, guys! Anon, you need to come with me. Twilight wants to see you for a second."
1190. >"Twilight? Why?" you ask Spike.
1191. "She's the one performing the ceremony."
1192. >Twilight Sparkle is performing your ceremony? But you thought it would be done by the prince--... oh, right, she IS a princess. You nearly forgot.
1193. "No biggie, Anon. We'll go on ahead."
  1194. >Rainbow Dash says.
1195. >You give Fluttershy a hug, and then proceed to follow Spike inside the castle.
  1196.
1197. >Stepping inside the main hall, you can't believe how immaculate Canterlot Castle is. Amazing to think all this was built by creatures with no thumbs. Well, no thumbs and access to magic telekinesis, but still pretty impressive.
1198. "Anon! Glad to see you. You're right on time."
1199. >Twilight Sparkle greets you. You look over at her, and see she's dress in royal robes and wearing a tiara.
  1200. >"All that's missing is a scepter." you joke.
  1201. >Twilight scoffs and smiles.
1202. "Very funny. These are the traditional garb for the princess performing this ceremony, Anon. This stuff is super uncomfortable, but..."
1203. >Twilight floats a large, musty looking book next to her.
  1204. "...rules are rules."
1205. >"Has it really been that long since this ceremony's been done?" you ask.
1206. "Well, yes. We haven't had an otherworldly-- I mean... non natural born citizen in Equestria for almost 700 years!"
1207. >Twilight stumbles over her words briefly, and gives a toothy grin, perhaps hoping you didn't notice. You noticed. But you also don't care.
1208. >"Alright, so where are we doing this?"
1209. "On the balcony overlooking all of Canterlot. We only have a few minutes before sunrise, so let's get going, Anon."
1210. >Twilight flies off up the tower of the castle, you follow her. But wait, you think, whatever happened to...
1211. "H-Hey! Guys, wait for me!"
1212. >Spike calls, running up the stairs, trying his best to keep up with you both on his stubby legs. Twilight swoops down and picks him up.
1213. >Twilight carries Spike up the tower, and you follow them upwards. You reach the top and land at the end of the stairs.
1214. "Ah, thou must be Anon! Pray, come hither and grace us with your presence."
1215. >A regal sounding voice greets you as you touch down. Twilight lands behind you.
1216. "Princess Luna! Where is Princess Celestia?"
1217. >Twilight asks to the voice. You look ahead and see who she's talking to. A night blue alicorn with sparkling wavy hair walks towards you both with royal grace. So this is Princess Luna... she's a sight to behold alright.
1218. "Our sister is preparing to raise the sun, Princess Twilight. You have not much time before she must fulfill her duty on schedule. Be swift when conducting the rite of citizenship."
1219. >Luna walks over to you. Not knowing how to react, you bow to her, looking down at the ground. "H-Hello, Your Majesty." you stammer.
1220. "There is no need for such formalities, Anon. Thou may rise."
1221. >You stand up and look at the Princess. "If I may ask, Your Grace, why are you here?"
  1222. "ANON!"
1223. >Twilight gasps, thinking your query might be taken the wrong way. Luna lets out a small chuckle.
1224. "'Tis quite alright, Princess Twilight. He is not of this world, after all. As Celestia rules over the day, so do we have reign over the night. It is our duty to raise and lower the moon just as it is our sister's to raise and lower the sun."
1225. >Oh, right. Twilight told you about this before... sometime. Now you look like an idiot in front of the Princess. Great.
1226. "We better get going, Anon, it's almost time."
1227. >Twilight says. She walks towards the balcony.
1228. "We hope we shall have the opportunity to talk more another time, Anon!"
1229. >Luna calls after you as you follow Twilight to the balcony. Well, you think. Here we go. Hope everything goes off without a hitch. From the stories Fluttershy and the others told you, disasters tend to strike around here during important events.
  1230.
1231. >You and Twilight step up to the balcony. You look over the edge and see a huge crowd of ponies. Wow. Quite a turnout for a measly citizenship rite. You scan the crowd looking for Fluttershy and the rest of your friends.
1232. "Anon, we need to get started. We're short on time."
1233. >Twilight says. You step back a bit, and Twilight steps forward.
1234. "Hear ye, hear ye, everypony!"
1235. >The crowd's chattering dies down, and their attention turns to her.
1236. "You are here to witness Anonymous the Pegasus become a lawful citizen of the Land of Equestria. If anypony has an objection to this ceremony taking place, speak now."
1237. >Twilight pauses briefly. Her demeanor really does change when she's doing her royal duty, you ponder.
1238. "There are no objections! Now then."
1239. >Twilight motions for you to step forward. You move next to her, and she turns to face you.
1240. "Put your hoof on your heart please, Anon."
1241. >You put your right hoof against your chest.
1242. "Anonymous the Pegasus. Do you swear to uphold the harmony of our country by the way you live your life?"
  1243. >"I swear."
1244. "Do you swear your allegiance to the Princesses and the Royal Authority?"
  1245. >"I swear."
1246. >Twilight turns again to the crowd.
1247. "With the oaths sworn, now is the time for Anonymous' closest loved one to vouch for his honesty."
1248. >From the crowd, you see a yellow and pink speck flying to the front. As it moves closer, you can see it's Fluttershy. She flies quickly up to the balcony and lands next to you and Twilight. You can see her eyes, she's nervous. The crowd must be getting to her. But she's putting on a brave face.
1249. "I, Fluttershy, vouch for my love's honesty."
  1250. "And on what grounds?"
  1251. >Twilight asks.
  1252. >Fluttershy leans against you.
1253. "He not only says he loves me, he shows me he loves me every day."
1254. >Fluttershy nuzzles your neck. The crowd "Awww"s.
1255. "With the power vested in me, I, Princess Twilight Sparkle, declare Anonymous the Pegasus, a citizen of Equestria!"
1256. >The sun begins to rise.
1257. >You and the crowd watch as the sun climbs into the sky. A silhouette appears in front of the sun, legs and wings outstretched. Can it be? Is it her?
1258. >The figure rises with the sun. And as the sun takes its place in the sky, the moon lowers below the horizon. Luna's doing, no doubt. The silhouette glides down from the sky. You can make out the form now, the crowd cheers. A tall, white alicorn with a dazzling multicolored mane lands on the balcony near you. It is her.
  1259. "Princess Celestia!"
1260. >Twilight calls out and runs to her. You, not knowing what else to do, bow your head.
1261. "You did wonderfully, Princess Twilight. I knew I could count on you to perform the ceremony."
1262. >Celestia's voice is soothing, yet carries immense weight. It's as if you're hearing a goddess speak. Though, technically, you are.
1263. >"Your Majesty." you say, keeping your head down.
1264. "So you're Anonymous. Princess Twilight has told me a lot about you. Please rise, no need to bow."
1265. >You stand up. Fluttershy stands next to you.
1266. "We'll talk later at the celebration, Anon. One moment."
1267. >Celestia says, before she turns to the crowd.
1268. "Ponies of Equestria! With the rising of the sun, so begins Anonymous the Pegasus's first day as a citizen of this land!"
1269. >The crowd erupts in cheers and applause. You're touched by such a reaction. If you didn't already know so, this would tell you that Equestria is your true home.
1270. "You know what time it is, right everypony?"
1271. >Pinkie Pie says. Wait... PINKIE?! She just appeared right behind you! How did she--... never mind. You quickly decide you don't want to know.
  1272. "PARTY TIIIIIME!!!"
  1273.
1274. >You never expected a private party in the castle ballroom. They really know how to make a guy feel welcome. You're sitting at a table, eating some snacks, while watching your friends party hearty. Fluttershy is sitting next to you, looking happy as can be. And on your other side... Princess Celestia. Gulp. Don't say anything idiotic.
1275. "Do go on please, Anon. I'm very fascinated to learn about the world you come from. Your world does seem remarkably similar to this one."
  1276. >Celestia says.
1277. >"Uh, well, Your Highness, I can tell you this world is much less... cruel than my old one." you respond.
1278. "Yes, Princess. From my short time there, I know what Anon means by that."
  1279. >Fluttershy adds. Celestia's face straightens slightly.
1280. "And according to you, there is no magic in your world?"
  1281. >"No, there isn't. Your Majesty."
  1282. >Celestia smiles again.
1283. "'Princess' is fine, Anon. Thank you very much for telling me about where you come from."
1284. >"It's no trouble, Princess." you reply.
1285. "I'll go and mingle with your friends. I'm certain you and Fluttershy would like some alone time."
1286. >Celestia says. She gets up from the table and makes her way to the festivities. She didn't strike you as that down to earth with the way she carries herself. No wonder everypony respects her so much.
1287. "Oh, Anon, this is wonderful! I'm so happy for you; for us!"
  1288. >Fluttershy says, smiling.
  1289. >"So am I, Flutters."
1290. >You smile back at her. As you reply, you're reminded of something.
1291. >"Hey, Flutters? Do you remember last night, when we were snuggling?"
  1292. "H-How could I forget..."
1293. >She replies, her cheeks turning pink.
1294. >"You started to tell me something, but then said nevermind. What did you want to tell me?"
1295. >Fluttershy's eyes widen, and her cheeks turn a deep crimson.
1296. "Oh my... Anon... Can we talk about this later? All our friends are here, and..."
1297. >"Well, alright. But you promise to tell me when we get home?"
  1298. >Fluttershy hugs you warmly.
  1299. "Of course I will."
  1300.
  1301.
  1302. Chapter 12
  1303.
  1304.
1305. >It's the late afternoon, you and your friends are stepping off onto the Ponyville Station platform. The after-party was fun, but nothing could top the feeling you got at your ceremony. It feels good to be officially a part of your new home.
1306. >You share a group hug with your friends, and you all go your separate ways. Fluttershy asked you to come back to her cottage on the train, so you head there with her. As you watch the animals frolic and play outside her house, a thought comes to mind.
1307. >"Hey, Flutters, I was wondering. Doesn't Angel Bunny not like staying home alone? Who did you get to watch him?" you ask.
1308. "Oh, I didn't tell you? I guess it slipped my mind, we had a lot to celebrate today and..."
1309. "Well, hello there, Fluttershy! It's about time you got back, Angel and I have been so lonely."
1310. >A deep voice with a mischievous tone sounds from nowhere. Oh, boy. Here it comes.
1311. >Fluttershy's front door suddenly grows a face with two mismatched yellow eyes and a snout with one large fang.
1312. "And you brought Anon here, too? Oh ho, goody! So nice to have more company."
  1313. >The face says.
1314. "Hello, Discord. Where is Angel?"
  1315. >Fluttershy asks, seemingly unfazed.
1316. >The face scowls, and a monstrous creature made up of dozens of different animal parts phases out of the door. Not this guy again, you think. You've met Discord once or twice since you came to Equestria. Fluttershy reformed him from evil to good, but he still takes pleasure in messing with everypony.
1317. "You're no fun, Fluttershy. I thought I'd give you a surprise coming home. And Anon... I figured that one would get you for sure!"
1318. >"It got old after the thousandth time, Discord. Can we go in please, we had a pretty full morning." you reply.
1319. "Ah! How rude of me, I nearly forgot! You're a citizen of Equestria now! Ohhh... isn't life here grand?"
1320. >Discord says, putting his lion paw on your shoulders.
1321. >"You know what else is grand? Personal space." you reply, annoyed.
1322. "Discord, I really appreciate you petsitting Angel. But Anon and I need to have a private conversation. Would you please let us be?"
1323. >Fluttershy asks. Discord feigns being hurt.
1324. "Fluttershy! You use me to watch your beloved pet for you, and then cast me away like a used gum wrapper?! Oh, the betrayal!"
1325. >He says, bringing his claw to his forehead in mock sorrow.
1326. >You roll your eyes. Fluttershy looks at you and grins.
1327. "Oh, yes, Discord. We never want to see you ever again."
1328. >She says straight faced. You can tell she isn't being sincere. But Discord can't; he suddenly looks really concerned.
1329. "You... you're not serious, are you?"
1330. "Am I? Anon and I would really appreciate our privacy..."
1331. >Fluttershy replies, raising her eyebrows.
1332. "U-Understood. Nice to see you again, Anon. Farewell, you two!"
1333. >Discord says, before he poofs away in a cloud of smoke.
1334. >"Wow. Way to call his bluff, sweetheart." you say to Fluttershy.
  1335. "Just because I'm kind doesn't mean I'm a doormat, Anon."
  1336. >She says, smiling sweetly.
1337. >"Ha ha, believe me, I know." you reply. You follow Fluttershy into her cottage and close the door.
1338. >"Now then... What was it you wanted to talk about?"
1339. "Well, Anon... We've been together for a little over a month... But I feel happier than I've ever been with you..."
1340. >"I... feel the same way about you, Flutters."
1341. "And well... since you're legally a citizen now... That means that now we're free to be together completely."
  1342. >"What... do you mean...?"
1343. "Anon... would you... like to be... married?"
  1344. >"Wh-wh-WHAT?!"
1345. "Oh, dear, I'm sorry! Forget about it, I shouldn't have brought it up..."
1346. >"Wait, wait... Just... let me think..."
  1347.
  1348. >Will you:
  1349.
1350. >A. Tell her no, you don't want to be tied down.
  1351.
  1352. >or
  1353.
  1354. >B. Tell her--
  1355.
1356. >Before you can decide anything, somepony loudly knocks on Fluttershy's door. You turn around and answer it. A royal guard stands in the doorway.
1357. "Anonymous. You have been summoned to meet with Princess Twilight Sparkle."
  1358.
1359. >So much for some alone time with your fillyfriend. You're riding in a chariot pulled by the two pegasus guards. Apparently they're taking you to Twilight's castle. Why did Twilight even summon you? Especially this soon after your rite of citizenship. She PERFORMED your ceremony, shouldn't she have told you whatever she wanted to tell you then, or at the afterparty?
1360. >As you ponder, the chariot stops at Twilight's castle. It's certainly... interesting looking to say the least. Never thought you'd see a castle that looks like a tree. You get out of the chariot and step inside the castle door.
  1361. "Anon! Good, you're here."
1362. >Twilight greets you as you enter the castle.
1363. >"What's so important that I needed to be here now, Twilight?" you ask.
1364. "I'm sorry. I know you wanted to spend some time relaxing after today, but there's something that's come up. And you're the only one who can do something about it, Anon."
1365. >Twilight says, as you both walk through the entryway.
1366. >"Me? Why am I the only one?" you ask.
1367. "Because Anon. Nopony else could know as much about this as you. Or should I say... no-human..."
1368. >"What?" you say. You and Twilight enter the main hall, and she shuts the doors with her magic.
1369. "Anon... Last night in Canterlot, from a tear in the space-time continuum, we received... this."
1370. >Twilight opens a drawer and pulls out what looks like... an audio recorder? But you haven't seen anything like this since you came to Equestria. But that--... Oh. Oh no.
1371. "There's a message on it. Let me play it for you, Anon."
1372. >Twilight says, before she depresses the play button telekinetically. From the recorder, you hear:
1373. "This is a message from Earth. We have sent this message via trans-dimensional waves to whoever may find it. Take this to your leaders and send a reply."
1374. >"Oh, Celestia, no..." you whisper.
1375. "The people of your world know how to send things to this one, Anon. Could this be bad?"
  1376. >Twilight asks.
  1377. >"Yes...It could..."
1378. >"Is there some way we can send this back where it came from, Twilight?" you ask.
1379. "I've been studying an incredibly complex spell that could theoretically open a tear in space."
1380. >Twilight replies, floating several spellbooks around the room.
1381. >"Then... we could just send this back and forget about it... right?"
1382. "There's a catch. The spell can create the tear... but it won't allow you to close it. And if the tear isn't closed after a certain amount of time..."
1383. >Twilight looks at you with a dire expression.
1384. "...It will keep growing until the universe folds in on itself."
1385. >"But what about you? And the other princesses? Don't you all have enough power to close the tear?"
1386. "It would probably take the combined magic of myself and the others to even open the tear. And I have no idea how quickly it would expand once it's been opened."
1387. >Twilight starts leafing through her books again.
1388. "I thought about just ignoring the message."
1389. >"No... We... can't just ignore it. Humans don't like being ignored. They might send something... terrible..."
1390. "That's why I called you here, Anon. When I asked Princess Celestia about what I should do, she suggested I ask you."
1391. >"W-What?! Please, tell me I'm not making this decision. I... I can't do that..."
1392. >Twilight turns to you again.
1393. "I've been researching nonstop looking for a way to either stabilize or close the tear, but it's been slow going. You'll have some time before a choice needs to be made."
  1394. >Twilight's face sinks.
1395. "Anon... It's like I said before. Nopony else knows what to do. You were a human, you lived in that world, you know more about it than anypony ever has or ever will. I'm so sorry that all this happened right after such a happy day like today."
1396. >So many thoughts race through your head. Things you would've never considered again since you came to Equestria. But above anything else, one thought remains...
1397. >What are you going to tell Fluttershy? Should you even tell her?
1398. >The chariot stops in front of Fluttershy's cottage. You step out and thank the guards for giving you a ride. You walk up to the front door. It opens and Fluttershy looks at you with a worried expression.
1399. "Anon! What did Twilight want? Is everything OK?"
1400. >You look at her solemnly as you come inside.
1401. >"Fluttershy... I'll tell you what's going on... But you need to promise to not tell anypony else. This is serious."
1402. >Fluttershy's expression gets more anxious.
  1403. "I understand, Anon..."
1404. >You explain everything Twilight told you the best you could. Fluttershy listens closely.
1405. "Anon... do you really think so?"
1406. >"Flutters... I used to be one. I know humans don't give up that quickly. They're trying to get into Equestria."
1407. "B-But... What will they do, Anon?"
  1408. >"I don't know. But I don't want to think about it."
1409. >Fluttershy moves closer to you.
1410. "Anon... From how it sounds, you're the only one who can make the decision... But I promise that no matter what you decide... I'll support your choice."
1411. >She leans over and nuzzles you.
1412. "And... speaking of decisions... I had a question for you before..."
1413. >"What?" You suddenly remember. Her proposal.
  1414. >"O-Oh... Right..."
1415. "I hope it's not as hard a choice as the other one, Anon..."
  1416.
  1417. >Will you...
  1418.
  1419. >...
  1420. >Will you...
  1421.
  1422. >......
  1423.
  1424. >No. You can't.
  1425.
1426. >"Fluttershy... I... I can't think about marriage right now. You know that I love you, but... I can't think about two major choices at once like this... I'm sorry..." you say, bringing your hoof to her cheek.
1427. >Tears well up in Fluttershy's eyes. You can see her disappointment.
  1428. "I... understand, Anon."
1429. >You sit on your haunches and wrap your front legs around her, hugging tightly.
1430. >"I'm not saying never, I promise you." you say softly as you embrace her.
  1431. "I know... I shouldn't have asked... It's OK, Anon..."
1432. >Your heart nearly shatters after she says this, and you hug her tighter.
1433. >"No matter what happens, I'll always be here for you, Flutters."
  1434.
  1435.
  1436. Chapter 13
  1437.
  1438.
1439. >Your eyes open slowly, as you sit up in your bed. You rub the sleep away, as you mind immediately wanders to last night. You really felt guilty leaving Fluttershy alone at her cottage, especially after your talk. But she told you she'd be fine, and you trusted her.
1440. >You hover out of bed and start your morning routine as normal. Going through the motions as if you never learned about everything you did the day before. It's going to be hard, trying to live as everypony else who doesn't know their world could be at stake, but you know you have to.
1441. >You splash some water on your face. You look in the mirror and put on a smile. Twilight said you still have some time before a decision needs to be made, so there's no sense in sweating it until the time comes.
1442. >You step out of the bathroom, and walk towards your front door. Today you promised to hang out with the Cutie Mark Crusaders. The CMC kept insisting they'd help you "earn your cutie mark", but really, you're just keeping them out of trouble.
1443. >You open up your front door. Three young fillies, an earth pony, a unicorn, and a pegasus are standing there with giant smiles on their faces. So AJ and Rarity already dropped them off. Hoo boy.
  1444. "Mornin', Anon! We're here!"
  1445. >Apple Bloom says.
1446. >"I can see that, girls. You doing alright today?" you ask them.
1447. "Definitely! We have a ton of awesome stuff planned for today! We'll help you get your cutie mark for sure!"
  1448. >Scootaloo chimes in.
1449. "Buuuut... Could we get some breakfast first?"
1450. >Sweetie Belle asks. Bloom and Scoot roll their eyes.
1451. "What? Rarity didn't make any breakfast this morning, guys, I'm hungry!"
1452. >Sweetie huffs, her voice squeaking slightly.
1453. >You chuckle. "Sure, girls, come on in, I'll get you some breakfast. Can't go crusading on an empty stomach, right?" you say.
1454. >The girls smile and walk inside. You close the door and follow them in. "Who wants pancakes?" you ask. They all raise their hooves.
  1455.
1456. >The girls chow down on the pancakes you made them. Eager little things, you think to yourself. They really have their hearts set on getting you a cutie mark. You tried to tell them you'll probably never have one, but they took it as a challenge.
1457. >"So what kind of stuff did you have in mind for today?" you ask them.
1458. >Bloom swallows her latest mouthful of pancake.
1459. "We're gunna try and play ta yer strengths today, Anon!"
  1460. >"My... strengths?" you ask.
1461. "Yeah! You're really good at talking to ponies about their problems and understanding them. So we have a mission for you."
1462. >Sweetie says, before taking another bite.
1463. >"A mission? Like, you have somepony you want me to try and help?"
1464. "Uh huh, we do! It'll work for sure, Anon!"
1465. >Scoot beams, putting the last bit of pancake away. With that, the CMC's plates are clean.
1466. >You have no real idea what they could be talking about, but figure there's no harm in humoring them. At least they aren't trying to take you skydiving or cliff scaling. Again.
1467. >You take their plates to the sink, and turn back to the girls.
1468. >"Alright, I'm ready. Take me to the mission!" you say.
1469. "Oh, Anon. We're can't take you to it. Because it's coming to you!"
  1470. >Scoot replies.
1471. >Before you can question what she means, you hear a knock on your front door. And before you can go see who it is, the girls zip over and open it. Standing in the doorway is a huge hulking white pegasus with a mohawk.
1472. "Raight on taime, Mr. Biceps! Come on in!"
1473. >Bloom greets him as he ducks to fit in your door.
1474. "THANKS SO MUCH FOR MEETING WITH ME. I HAVE A LOT TO GET OFF MY CHEST."
1475. >The buff pegasus says half yelling.
  1476. >"Uh, girls... I don't know if I..."
1477. "Hey, one at a time! No pushing!"
1478. >Sweetie yells. Looking past the girls, you can see a long queue of ponies all lined up at your front door.
1479. "We gathered everypony in Ponyville who needed someone to listen to them! Isn't it great?!"
1480. >Scoot says, giving you a toothy smile.
  1481. >You sigh.
1482. >"Listen, girls... I appreciate the thought, but... I really don't think I can help all these ponies." you say to the CMC.
1483. "But, Anon... We already told everypony that they'd get a chance to talk with you. We can't just send them all away!"
  1484. >Sweetie says.
1485. >You glance again out your door at the line. Did it just get longer?
1486. "UMM... MIND IF I START TALKING? I REALLY JUST NEED TO VENT HERE."
  1487. >The muscly pegasus shouts.
1488. >You turn to him and look up at him.
  1489. >"Hey, listen, Mr..."
1490. "BULK BICEPS. CALL ME BULK, ANON."
1491. >"Bulk... I uh... I don't have a problem listening to you for a while. But... you won't be that long, will you?"
1492. "NO WAY! I'LL BE QUICK."
1493. >Bulk says. You sit down in a chair. Bulk sits across from you. After a few seconds, the chair he's sitting on breaks.
  1494. "OOPS. SORRY."
1495. >"It's... fine. Go ahead." you say. The CMC sidle up to the table to watch, grinning all the while.
1496. "OK. SO IT ALL STARTED WHEN I WAS A COLT..."
1497. >Bulk Biceps launches into a long-winded explanation of what must be his life story for how much he's saying. Something about being made fun of for his tiny wings, and compensating by working out. You really hope he's not asking any questions, because it's not easy paying attention. After what feels like hours, he's done.
1498. "THANKS A LOT, ANON. I NEEDED THAT. BYE!"
1499. >Bulk gets up from the broken bits of what used to be a chair and out your door. Thank Celestia that's over, you think.
  1500. "Next!!"
1501. >Sweetie calls out to the line. A mint colored unicorn with a harp cutie mark steps inside. Unless you speak up, you're going to be here all day.
1502. >You address the crowd of ponies in front of you.
1503. >"Everypony, please listen for a second!" you call out. The line quiets down, and the CMC stand next to you.
1504. >"I'd be... more than happy to help all of you out, but... I think I'll need a break. If you all would mind coming in one at a time, you'll each get a day to talk. Sorry about this!"
1505. >The crowd groans in disappointment, and they start to disperse. You wave goodbye to as many ponies as you can, then shut the door and turn back to the CMC.
1506. >"Girls... did you seriously think I could somehow help all those ponies?!"
1507. >The girls look down at their hooves.
1508. "Well... Rarity told me all about how much you talking with her helped her, and we know all about how you took care of Fluttershy... We thought this would be perfect for you to earn your cutie mark..."
  1509. >Sweetie responds sadly.
1510. "Ah guess we got a li'l carried away. Sorry, Anon."
  1511. >Bloom adds.
1512. >"It's alright. But now I'll be stuck playing psychiatrist to everypony in Ponyville for a while..." you sigh.
1513. "But, Anon... you don't have to do that for all those ponies. WE'RE the ones who told them to come to you..."
  1514. >Scoot says.
1515. >"Listen, Scootaloo. I know that I don't have to. But I meant what I said, I don't mind listening to ponies. Just not all at once though... OK?" you tell her before giving the girls a reassuring smile. The girls look a little less sad.
1516. >"So did you all have any other, less stressful plans for today?" you ask.
1517. "Well... We did want to try out the new cinnamon spice cupcakes at Sugarcube Corner..."
1518. >Sweetie says, as her eyes become as wide a saucers, sparkling at you. Bloom and Scoot join in with their own puppy dog eyes.
1519. >"OK, OK. But you're paying me back this time." you concede to their cuteness.
1520. >The girls giggle and run outside, off to Sugarcube Corner. You fly after them, trying to keep up. You can understand why Rarity and Applejack asked you to watch them. They're more than a hoof-full.
  1521.
1522. >You and the CMC come up to Sugarcube Corner, and all step inside. The smell of sweets carries through the air inside the shop. Mrs. Cake stands behind the counter. She notices you and your... entourage come in.
1523. "Oh, hello there, Anon! And hello, girls!"
1524. "Howdy, Mrs. Cake! We're here ta try the new flavor of cupcakes!"
1525. >Apple Bloom says walking up to the counter, as Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle join her, all grinning simultaneously.
1526. "Why, of course! Who's paying then?"
1527. >Mrs. Cake asks. You step up to the counter.
1528. >"That would be me." you reply, with a half smile. "I guess I'll try one, too."
1529. "Sure thing, Anon! That'll be 2 bits each."
1530. >Mrs. Cake holds out her hoof, and you grab 8 bits from your bag and place them in it. She rings up your order and puts your payment in the register.
1531. "Pinkie, 4 Super Cinnamon Spice Cupcakes on deck!"
1532. >Mrs. Cake calls back to the kitchen.
  1533. "GOT IT!"
1534. >A shrill voice responds. Oh, you forgot Pinkie Pie actually works here. All you usually see her do her is "sample" all the treats meant for paying customers.
  1535. "It'll be just a couple minutes."
1536. >Mrs. Cake says with her best customer service smile. The girls go over to the glass case to ogle the other desserts.
1537. "How've you been, Anon? And how's Fluttershy?"
  1538. >Mrs. Cake asks.
1539. >"Uh, I'm doing OK. And Fluttershy... she's doing good, too..." you respond.
  1540. >Mrs. Cake frowns.
  1541. "Is something wrong?"
1542. >"Well... Recently Fluttershy was talking about our relationship and..."
1543. "You're not splitting up, are you, dear?"
1544. >"No, no... It's just... She wants to take a step that I don't think I'm ready for yet."
1545. "Anon... Any good relationship has it's growing pains. If you aren't ready to move up just yet, I'm sure Fluttershy understands."
  1546. "DONE!!"
1547. >Pinkie yells as a plate of fresh cupcakes comes out of the back. The girls zoom over and grab their cakes, leaving one behind. You take the last cupcake. You take a bite. The cupcake is delicious.
  1548.
1549. >You and the CMC leave Sugarcube Corner, the spice cupcakes sitting in your bellies. They were pretty good, you think to yourself.
1550. >"So, girls... Who's ready to go back to my house and play the quiet game for the rest of the day?" you ask them in a joking tone.
1551. "Umm... Not us? Not... any of us?"
1552. >Scoot says, looking to her friends who look up at you and sneer.
1553. >"Just joking. But did you guys have anything else in mind?" you say.
1554. >The girls put their hooves to their chin and "Hmmm" simultaneously.
1555. "Ah got it! Do ya think Fluttershy would let us play with some of her animals, Anon?"
  1556. >Bloom asks.
1557. >Well, that doesn't sound too out of the question. The CMC are always nice to the animals, and Flutters will...
1558. >Flutters... You haven't seen her since last night. When you had your talk. She seemed alright when you said goodnight to her... but it could still be awkward in front of the fillies. No, you can't just ignore her.
1559. >"I'm... sure she would." you finally respond.
1560. >The girls cheer as you all begin heading to Fluttershy's cottage. You walk through Ponyville's center, and out of the town proper. As you all come into the forest area where the cottage lies, you suddenly feel something land on your back. You turn your head around to see what it is.
1561. >"Owlicious? What are you doing here?"
1562. >Twilight's pet owl looks at you and blinks. He's holding a scroll in his beak. You take the scroll from him.
  1563. >"Uh, thanks."
  1564. "Hoo!"
1565. >Owlicious coos before taking off and flying away.
1566. "Is that a message from Twilight, Anon? What's it say?"
  1567. >Sweetie asks.
1568. >"I'll... look at it later." you reply, tucking the scroll under your wing.
1569. >You and the girls come up to Fluttershy's cottage. You step up to the door and knock.
1570. >"Flutters? Are you home?" you call out. You wait for a response. And don't get one.
1571. "Of all the rotten luck! We just want to hang out with the animals, and Fluttershy's not home!"
  1572. >Scoot huffs.
1573. >Where is she? you think.
1574. >You open the front door of the cottage and step inside.
1575. "Anon! Are you really entering Fluttershy's house when she's not home?!"
1576. >Sweetie says loudly, her voice squeaks.
1577. "Calm down, Sweetie Belle. Anon is Fluttershy's coltfriend, it's faine."
  1578. >Bloom interjects.
1579. >You walk inside and call for Fluttershy again. Still no answer. She didn't tell you that she'd be gone today. But maybe she just wants to be alone after last night, you think. You take the opportunity away from the girls to read the scroll you just got.
  1580.
  1581. "Anon:
  1582.
1583. Something has come up. I need you to come to the castle as soon as you can. Fluttershy is here with me, I thought she deserved some input on the situation as well. See you soon.
  1584.
  1585. Princess Twilight Sparkle"
  1586.
1587. >What? What does Twilight mean "something came up"? You decide you don't want to think about it. You walk back out and face the CMC.
1588. >"Girls... I'm sorry, but I can't hang out anymore today. I need to do something important."
  1589. >The CMC all frown.
  1590.
1591. >You and the CMC step onto the porch of the Apples' house.
1592. "Do we reeeaaally have to stay with Granny Smith the rest of the day?"
  1593. >Scoot whines.
1594. "Not unless you don't mind modeling my sister's new clothes..."
1595. >Sweetie replies. Bloom and Scoot cringe.
1596. >"I promise we'll hang again soon, OK? But this is really important." you tell them. The door swings open, and Bloom's grandma stands in the doorway.
1597. "Weeelllll, howdy Anon! Good ta see ya!"
1598. >Granny Smith greets you with a wrinkly grin.
1599. >"You too, Granny Smith. Mind watching the fillies for a while? I have something I need to do."
1600. "Why, Ah don't mind a'tall, Anon! Come along, young'uns."
1601. >The CMC step inside, Bloom whispers something to her two friends, they giggle, then all gallop upstairs to her room.
1602. "Ah better go see what those kids're up to. Naice seeing ya, Anon!"
1603. >Granny says, starting to shut the door.
1604. >"Thanks again, Granny Smith!" you reply before flying off towards Twilight's castle.
  1605.
  1606.
  1607. Chapter 14
  1608.
1609. >You run into the main hall of Twilight's castle. Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy are standing there.
1610. >"I got here soon as I could. What's wrong, Twilight?" you ask.
  1611. "Anon... Another message came."
1612. >Twilight says. You feel your stomach drop.
1613. "Here... you should listen to it."
1614. >She gives you another audio recorder. You click the play button.
1615. "This is a message from earth. We have not gotten a response. We urge you to send correspondence as soon as possible."
1616. >You feel a chill up your spine as you hear the word "urge". It sounds... demanding.
1617. "The wording sounds impatient, Anon. We're running out of time."
1618. >Twilight states with a twinge of fear in her voice.
1619. >"Have... you made any progress on finding a counter-spell for the tear?" you ask her.
1620. "Spike and I have been poring over every research and spell book we can get our hooves on, Anon. But unfortunately... no."
1621. >You turn to Fluttershy, who has been quietly standing there.
1622. >"What do you think, Flutters? You saw some of what they can do..." you ask her.
1623. >Fluttershy looks down at the floor.
1624. "I... really don't think I should have any say... You come from that world, Anon, I only..."
1625. >Her mane falls in front of her face. You hate seeing her this way.
  1626. >"Twi... Could you...?"
  1627. "Of course."
1628. >Twilight replies, recognizing you need to be alone with her. She walks off into the next room.
1629. >You step closer to Fluttershy.
1630. >"Flutters... are you OK? You're not still upset about..."
1631. "No, Anon... I'm not upset with you... I'm upset with me..."
  1632. >"Huh?"
1633. "I... I shouldn't have brought up marriage so soon..."
1634. >You lift her head up and brush her mane away.
  1635. >"Flutters... It's OK..."
1636. >You kiss her and give her a comforting smile.
1637. >"You know that I still love you, and you're forgiven. But you have to forgive yourself."
  1638. >Fluttershy tears up.
1639. "Here I am feeling sorry for myself while Equestria could be in danger..."
1640. >She hugs you tightly. Over your shoulder, you hear her sobbing quietly.
1641. >Twilight walks back into the room, and sees Fluttershy over your shoulder.
1642. "Oh, uh... Sorry, it got quiet and I thought you were..."
1643. >Fluttershy lets go of you and wipes her muzzle.
1644. "I... I'm OK... Is there... anything else, Twilight?"
1645. >Twilight's expression changes, she looks to be thinking intensely.
1646. "Anon... We know if the next time the humans send something, it could be something terrible. But on the other hoof, if we opened the tear now, we wouldn't be able to close it, and depending on the power we use to open it, it could be incredibly unstable..."
1647. >"Twilight... maybe you and Spike would like some help looking for a counter-spell?" you ask her.
1648. >Fluttershy lights up, and stands up straighter.
1649. "We'd love to help, Twilight. If it's alright."
  1650. >Twilight frowns.
1651. "I couldn't ask you to spend so much time doing this. It's enough that you're making the final call."
1652. "WHAT?! Are you JOKING, Twilight?!"
1653. >A familiar gruff voice says down the hall. You all turn to see Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie entering the castle.
1654. "You really think we're gonna sit by the sidelines and do nothing?"
1655. >Dash asks, smiling. Twilight looks shocked.
  1656. "Girls! How did you...?"
  1657. "I told them, Twilight."
1658. >From behind the ponies, Spike steps forward.
1659. "I know you asked us not to tell, but... we need all the help we can get! You're not mad, are you?"
1660. >Twilight walks over to Spike and smiles.
1661. "No, you're right, Spike. I should have remembered any problem can be solved when you're with your friends."
1662. "Well, what're we waitin' fer, everypony? Let's go 'n round us up a spellbook! Yeeeee-haaw!"
1663. >Applejack cries, as the group runs off for Twilight's library, leaving you and Fluttershy.
1664. >"Shall we go, Flutters?" you ask, holding out your hoof.
1665. >Fluttershy clasps her hoof to yours.
1666. "Let's find that spell, Anon. I know we all can do it together."
1667. >She leans in and kisses your cheek as you both follow after the group.
  1668.
1669. >You and the group search the shelves of Twilight's huge library. How does she have the time to read all these books? you ponder.
  1670. "I found it, I found it!"
1671. >Pinkie Pie screams. Everypony gathers around her.
1672. "Here it is, Twilight, the counter spell!"
1673. >Pinkie gives Twilight the book she was holding.
1674. "'To cast this spell, you must repeat these words... One... Two... Three... Fo--..."
1675. >Twilight reads aloud, before she facehoofs and looks annoyed.
1676. "Pinkie... this is a COUNTING spell. Not a counter spell.
  1677. "Oopsie-whoopsie! Sorry-worry, Twilight... W-whylight... eh hehe."
1678. >Pinkie tries to play it off, before everypony groans and get back to work.
1679. >You hope that somepony is able to find something soon. You really are trying to push what could happen out of your mind, but are having a hard time doing so. Instead of dwelling on your fears, you try to pay attention and look over as many books as you can.
1680. "Anon... I think I might have found something."
1681. >Fluttershy says, snapping you out of it. You look at the book she's holding. And it's written in strange runes you don't recognize at all.
1682. >"I can't read this, Flutters, show it to Twilight, she might be able to." you say.
  1683. "Right, OK."
1684. >Fluttershy goes over to where Twilight is standing.
1685. "Um... Twilight... I might have found something."
1686. >She says quietly. Twilight is too engrossed in her research to hear her.
1687. >You walk up next to Fluttershy and nuzzle her mane.
1688. >"You gotta speak up, Flutters."
1689. >Fluttershy inhales, and tries again.
1690. "Um! Twilight! I think I found something!"
1691. >She repeats, louder and more forceful.
1692. >Twilight turns around and see the book Fluttershy is holding. She scans its contents.
1693. "Fluttershy... I think you found what we're looking for! These symbols are hundreds of years old. Almost 700 years old, to be more accurate."
1694. >700 years old... why does that number sound familiar? Suddenly you remember.
1695. >"Twilight... before my ceremony, you were saying how it hadn't been performed in nearly 700 years..."
1696. "That's right, Anon, I did say that, because it's true. You see... you're not the first human to become a pony in Equestrian history."
  1697. >Twilight replies.
1698. >"WHAT?!" you yell, along with everyone else in the room.
  1699. >"But... I... how?"
1700. "Well... according to ancient scrolls I've read, traveling between two worlds was a lot more common then than it is now. But as for you becoming a pony, that's a different story."
1701. "Then... why DID Anon become a pony when he came to this world?"
1702. >Fluttershy asks, seemingly the only one who's jaw didn't hit the floor.
1703. >Twilight puts her hoof to her chin and thinks for a moment. She suddenly looks over at you.
1704. "Anon... you told us that you were badly hurt before you came here, right? To the point where you might have... died?"
1705. >"I... yeah..." you respond, unpleasant memories flooding back to you.
1706. "Apparently, there were some cases recorded where if a being was taken to another world while mortally wounded, then their bodies would take on the form of the people in the world they wind up in."
1707. >This is all hitting you like a ton of bricks. It's a lot to take in. But something occurs to you.
1708. >"Wouldn't Princess Celestia have known about this? She's been around for... forever, right?"
1709. "Who do you think helped me with this research, Anon? Back in those times, she was the one who performed the citizenship ceremony."
1710. >You need to sit down. You grab a chair and plop down in it. This revelation has blown your mind considerably, and looking at your friends, you can tell theirs are blown, too.
1711. "This is too much to handle all at once... To think, some of our ancestors could have once been... human..."
  1712. >Rarity thinks aloud.
1713. "Is that why Anon's world sounds so much laike ours? Because of other humans who became ponies and lived here?"
  1714. >Applejack proposes.
1715. "So how often did this whole humans turning into ponies thing happen back then?"
  1716. >Rainbow Dash asks.
1717. "Apparently enough times for humans leave in influence on our culture. How else would we speak the same languages and have similar sounding names for important cities and landmarks?"
1718. >Twilight answers, still deep in thought.
1719. >"Maybe we shouldn't be thinking about this right now, guys. Twilight, does the book say anything about a counter spell for the tear?" you interject.
1720. "HEY! I didn't get to say anything!! I'm all thoughtful and stuff about this too!!"
1721. >Pinkie Pie screams, but it falls on deaf ears as everypony looks at Twilight deciphering the book.
1722. "It... says something about a spell that might work... but it requires a huge amount of magic. A simple counter spell shouldn't take that much power to cast. Unless..."
  1723. >Twilight gasps.
1724. "This isn't a simple counter spell, everypony. This spell is to permanently halt all travel to this plane. It creates a sort of... 'fence' around our dimension that nothing can get through."
1725. >You and the group gasp.
1726. >"So if this spell is performed..."
1727. "Then we'd never have to worry about anything from another dimension ever again. Including your old one, Anon."
1728. >"That's... fantastic!! But wait... Didn't this ever cross the mind of anypony back in those days?"
1729. "It might have. But back then, from what we know and what I've heard from Princess Celestia, humans weren't like how you described they are now. And back then, there wouldn't have even been enough magic to cast the spell."
  1730. >"Enough magic...?"
1731. "This spell requires alicorn magic. And back then, the only alicorn was Celestia, since Luna was still imprisoned. Now that Luna is back, and Cadence and I are around, we might have enough power to make it work."
1732. >"Did you say Cadence? As in Princess Cadence?" You'd heard of her before, she rules a Crystal Empire, apparently. Sounds like a nice place to visit, but now's not the time.
1733. >You and everypony else leave Twilight's castle with the book. You can see that they all mean business now that a plan is coming together. Twilight Sparkle turns and addresses the group.
1734. "Spike, send a letter to Celestia and Luna."
  1735. "On it!"
1736. >Spike replies, taking out his quill and beginning to pen the letter.
1737. "Rainbow Dash, how fast can you fly to the Crystal Empire?"
1738. "Quicker than a bolt of lightning, baby!"
  1739. >Dash brags.
1740. "Go quickly, and tell Cadence to get here as quick as she can."
1741. >Dash salutes, and speeds off, leaving her signature rainbow trail behind her.
1742. "Whut can the rest of us do, Twilight?"
1743. >Applejack says as you and the rest await orders.
1744. "Tell everypony in Ponyville they need to stay indoors. If this spell goes wrong, it could mean disaster."
  1745. "Okey dokey, artichokey!"
1746. >Pinkie Pie says, and the others nod.
1747. "We'll all meet in the field nearby later on. Good luck, everypony."
1748. >Twilight says, before taking off and flying away. The others start galloping into Ponyville. You guess you should follow them, and start to when...
  1749. "Anon! Wait a minute!"
1750. >Fluttershy? Looks like she stayed behind. You turn to her.
  1751. >"What's wrong, Flutters?"
1752. "Anon... what Twilight said before... I don't know if this is such a good idea."
1753. >"But... what do you mean?"
1754. "Twilight said this spell wouldn't let anything or anyone come to this world ever again, right?"
1755. >"Yeah, it's perfect, isn't it? We'll never have to worry about the humans again..."
1756. "But that's just it, Anon! What if what happened all those years ago starts happening again? Humans becoming ponies... I mean... you're here now... so... What if some humans are peaceful? Like you? Then they could never ever come here"
1757. >"Fluttershy, I was almost... gone when I came to Equestria. That's why I changed."
1758. "But what about other humans, Anon? Aren't there humans in your world that are dying that could come here and have a new life?"
1759. >"Flutters... Why do you care about the other humans? You were the one that was almost taken by them, and they would have killed me if it wasn't for you! You should be all for this plan! I used to be one, I know how terrible humans can be... You can't seriously care about them like this..."
1760. >Fluttershy looks hurt. You can see her eyes start tearing up.
1761. "I cared about you when you were still a human..."
1762. >She whispers, before turning around and flying away.
1763. >"Fluttershy!" you call. She doesn't come back.
  1764.
  1765.
  1766. Chapter 15
  1767.
1768. >You're running through Ponyville, searching frantically for Fluttershy. She looked so hurt by what you said before; you need to find her before the princesses converge on the field. As you look around at every place you can think of, you're reminded of when you searched for her back in your old home. Back in your old body. You were so panicked at the time that someone might have found her and taken her from you. And now... you might have just driven her away yourself.
1769. >You take notice of the others, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Applejack getting everypony indoors. You need to hurry, if you don't find her soon, it could be too late.
1770. "Well, hello there, Anon! Why the rush?"
1771. >A deep, mischievous voice sounds from nearby. Discord appears next to you; you pay him no mind and keep looking.
1772. "You look positively panicked, Anon. What seems to be the problem?"
1773. >You growl, and turn to Discord.
1774. >"I'm looking for Fluttershy, have you seen her? If you have, where is she, and if you haven't, then get outta here!"
1775. "Trying to find her before the big shebang happens, hmm?"
1776. >Discord replies, smiling a smile you can't tell if goofy or sinister.
1777. >"How do you know--... No, I don't care! Have you seen Fluttershy or not?"
1778. >Discord puts his lion paw to his chin.
1779. "I saw her fly by a few moments ago, but I have no idea where she was going. She didn't even stop and say hello to her DEAREST friend! How sad!"
1780. >Discord says, his eyes crying crocodile tears as he wipes them with a hanky appearing from nowhere.
1781. >"Which way did she go?!" you ask, exasperated from his antics.
  1782. "She went that-a-way!"
1783. >Discord manifests a large neon arrow pointing towards the center of Ponyville. But the only thing there is...
1784. >"Thanks Discord... I guess." you quickly say before flying off to the town square.
1785. "You're just going to go on without me? Oh, I feel so hurt! So betrayed!"
1786. >You sigh, and turn back to Discord. "Fine, come on. If it'll shut you up."
  1787.
1788. >You and Discord fly over to the town center. The community hall... Would Fluttershy really be here instead of back at her cottage? You open the doors of the hall. Inside, you can see Fluttershy slumped over the platform. You can't hear any crying coming from her though.
1789. "You see? I told you she went this way. She certainly looks depressed, whatever did you do to her THIS time, Anon?"
  1790. >Discord asks, teasingly.
1791. >You turn around to him, trying hard to hang onto your patience, which is rapidly disappearing.
1792. >"Will you... shut... your damn mouth already?" you say.
1793. "OH! My, one of your human swear words! There's no need for that kind of language, Anon..."
  1794. >"Shut it... I'm not a human..."
1795. "Oh, come now. Just because you look like a pegasus now doesn't make you any less of a human."
1796. >Your blood is beginning to boil at Discord's prodding, despite of yourself.
  1797. >"Shut... up..."
1798. "Well, what's wrong with being human anyway? They are very fascinating creatures from what I've heard."
1799. >"GAAHH!! STOP IT, I SAID SHUT UP!!" you yell. Discord recoils a bit, not expecting such a loud reaction. Over at the platform, Fluttershy looks up, and sees you and Discord. She flies over to you both.
1800. "Anon! I'm... I'm sorry about leaving before..."
1801. >"It's OK, Flutters. I'm sorry I said... what I said." you say, starting to calm down.
1802. >Fluttershy's expression changes to a sad one again.
1803. "No, Anon... I don't think you really are sorry."
  1804. >"...What?"
1805. "I heard what Discord was saying to you when you came in. And I heard what you said to him. You're ashamed of being a human. And because you're ashamed, you don't want any more humans to have what you have now. Right?"
1806. >She knows you better than you know yourself. Your eyes start misting up.
  1807. >"Fluttershy... I..."
1808. "I don't just care about you, Anon. I care about all living creatures. And just because some of the humans I met were mean, doesn't mean all of them are."
1809. "Fluttershy... The humans capable of making things cross to other worlds can't have anything but doing harm in mind... Please, you have to believe me..."
1810. "Anon... when somepony is being mean to you... you just need to show them all of your love and kindness in return. If we welcome the humans, then surely they won't want to do any harm to us."
1811. >"Fluttershy, I know you're the Element of Kindness, but that's crazy... How can you possibly know that will work?"
1812. "Because she tried it on me."
1813. >Discord comes out from behind you and stands next to Fluttershy.
1814. "She showed me kindness when nopony else would, even after I plunged Ponyville into chaos. And because of her compassion, I realized that it's far better to be friends with ponies than to torture them for fun."
1815. >You feel tears start streaming down your face. When you first became a pony and settled into your new life in Equestria, you were ready to leave behind your old world, and your old people. But that wasn't right to do now, you realize. Just because your last experience with people in your world wasn't a positive one doesn't make all the other positive moments go away. How could you have been so foolish?
1816. >You suddenly move close to Fluttershy and hug her tightly. Your face is buried in her mane as you start sobbing.
  1817. >"You're right, Flutters... I'm so sorry... I promise I am..."
1818. >As you cry into her, she lifts up her hoof. She moves it up to your head, and begins to pet you gently.
1819. "I know you are now, Anon... I believe you..."
1820. >She replies before embracing you back, sniffling.
1821. >Discord is watching on with tears (real ones this time) in his eyes. You look up and notice him. You smile at him. Discord takes this as an invitation and joins in on the hug, lifting you and Fluttershy off the floor as he does so.
1822. "It's moments like these that make me miss being the spirit of chaos less and less..."
1823. >Discord says, his voice on the verge of breaking.
  1824.
  1825.
  1826. Chapter 16
  1827.
1828. >You, Fluttershy and Discord make your way to the nearby field. It's about time for everypony to be there by now. As you make your way over the ridge, you can see the rest of your friends have already made it. And the Princesses are here as well!
1829. "Look, everypony, Anon's finally here!"
1830. >Pinkie Pie shouts, and your friends all cheer.
1831. "Anon, Fluttershy, you made it! And... you brought Discord?"
1832. >Twilight says flying over to meet you.
1833. "Humph. Nice to see you too, Princess Twilight..."
1834. >Discord pouts, folding his arms.
1835. 'We're just about ready to begin casting the spell. I got the other princesses up to speed on what's happening, and they agree that this is a good decision, Anon."
  1836. >Twilight says.
1837. >Fluttershy looks over at you with pleading eyes. You turn to Twilight.
1838. >"Listen, Twilight... Fluttershy and I have been talking about this. And... I don't know if I want us to go through with this anymore." you tell her. Twilight frowns and her brow furrows.
1839. "What...? What are you talking about, Anon? All we've heard from you is how humans are dangerous! Isn't this what you wanted? To make sure no other humans can come here and cause trouble?"
1840. >"Fluttershy made me realize that it might be possible to make peace. Then things could be like they were all those years ago. Right?"
  1841. >Twilight looks around, thinking.
  1842. "I... Well..."
1843. "It very well could turn out that way."
1844. >A calming voice says. You look to see who spoke, then realize... Princess Celestia? She moves closer and joins in the conversation.
1845. "Princess Twilight...I believe that either choice has its merits. We could most certainly try to befriend the humans, much like we did centuries before. However, from what Anon has described, humanity seems to have changed from what they were back then. Here is what I propose."
1846. >Celestia walks over and stands before you.
1847. "Anon... As not only a former human but now a citizen of Equestria... I ask you, what should we do?"
1848. "From what I see, Anon, one of two things will happen. First, we cast our spell as planned, and seal away our world forever, not only protecting it from any threats, but effectively making sure that no others like you may ever enter again. Second, we cast the spell to open the tear in space to the human world, and attempt to make peace; which could bring back the ways of centuries past, or be the end of Equestria as we know it. I know this is a heavy burden to bear, but only you can make this choice, Anon. We await your call."
  1849.
1850. >This is it. Your final choice. Whatever you decide will change the fate of both worlds forever. For better or for worse.
  1851.
1852. >What will you do? Will you...
  1853.
1854. >A. Cast the spell to seal off Equestria from all other dimensions
  1855.
  1856. >or
  1857.
1858. >B. Open the tear and try to befriend humanity, hopefully making things the way they used to be
  1859.
  1860. >You have chosen: B
  1861.
1862. >"We open the tear." you conclude.
1863. >Twilight looks shocked, but after a moment, she looks at Celestia and then at you.
1864. "I hope you know what you're doing, Anon. But I trust your judgement."
1865. >She and Celestia go back to the other princesses to start preparing. Fluttershy leans against you and nuzzles you.
1866. "Thank you so much, Anon... I know it wasn't easy to choose..."
1867. >The rest of your friends come over to you both. Their expressions are difficult to read.
1868. >"Hey, guys. Are... you OK with this choice?" you ask them.
1869. >Rarity steps forward from the group.
1870. "Anon, dear... I believe in you. WE believe in you. And Fluttershy, too! If anypony can make friends with humans, it's you. You're one of the sweetest, most caring individuals any of us have ever met."
1871. >Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash nod in agreement, smiling a hopeful smile. They all join you and Fluttershy for a group hug.
1872. >From the corner of your eye, you can see the Princesses talking amongst themselves. Celestia appears to wave Discord over into their conference. Discord looks surprised, but goes over to see what they want with him.
1873. >The group hug breaks up. Your friends give you and Fluttershy another encouraging smile before you both walk over to the princesses.
  1874. >"Your Highness...es... We're ready." you tell them.
1875. "Anon, we feel this choice may be risky, but if our sister believeth in thou, then so too shall we."
  1876. >Luna responds.
1877. "Nice to finally meet you, Anon, I've heard a lot about you! We'll have to meet again when the circumstances aren't so... dire next time."
  1878. >Cadence says.
1879. "Please. When things get dire is practically the only time WE ever get to hang out!"
  1880. >Twilight jokes; Cadence giggles.
1881. "Are you certain that your choice is clear? This is your last opportunity to change your mind."
  1882. >Celestia asks you.
  1883. >You look into Celestia's eyes confidently.
1884. >"Yes. This is what needs to be done."
1885. "You understand what we need you to do if need be, correct Discord?"
  1886. >Celestia asks him.
1887. "Yes, Princess. If anything happens to anypony, I'm to attempt to close the tear."
1888. >Discord salutes, an army helmet appearing on his head.
1889. >It's finally time. Twilight Sparkle steps forward.
  1890. "Everypony! Stand clear!"
1891. >She digs her hooves into the ground, and from her horn, a dark purple and green beam shoots onto a spot in the center of the field. As Twilight continues, Luna, Cadence, and Celestia all begin to fire the same kind of magic at the same spot. After a few moments, the ground being fired on begins to rise. A small patch of earth rises into the air, and begins to morph into what looks like a kind of circular door. A shimmering sort of translucent light begins swirling in the earth door. The princesses guide the portal down to the ground and place it back where the patch of ground once was. In its place is the door to your old world, a portal encased with the earth from the field. The princesses stop casting the spell. They all look fatigued.
1892. "That earth door... won't hold for very long... Once the dirt around the portal crumbles... it will keep expanding..."
  1893. >Twilight explains, breathing heavily.
1894. >You look at the door again. The swirling vortex looks very intimidating. But you have Fluttershy with you, and if she isn't afraid, you shouldn't be either.
1895. >The both of you start walking toward the portal. Suddenly, the portal begins glowing, and you can see what looks like a silhouette walking through. Everypony gasps, and you and Fluttershy stop walking forward. The silhouette gets closer and closer, until finally, it breaks free of the door. You immediate recognize what it is...
1896. >It's a man in a HAZMAT suit. Everyone who isn't you looks shocked.
1897. "THAT'S what you used to look like, Anon?!"
  1898. >Rainbow Dash asks incredulously.
1899. "Be careful, everypony, it might spit acid!"
  1900. >Pinkie screams.
1901. >"No, no! He's wearing a... never mind." you reply.
1902. "Sweet Mary and Joseph... they really CAN talk!"
1903. >The man says, but it's hard to tell through the mask. You and Fluttershy walk forward to the man.
1904. >"Hello!" you greet him, raising a hoof in goodwill.
1905. >The man recoils for a moment, but then lightly grips your hoof and shakes it.
1906. "H-Hello... talking horse with wings..."
1907. >"I'm Anon. And this is my fillyfriend, Fluttershy." you explain. Fluttershy comes from behind you and gives the man a disarming smile.
1908. "It's very nice to meet you, sir."
1909. >The man seems to let his guard down a bit. He steps forward a bit.
1910. "Um, yes. My name is Dr. Gerald Benjamin. This inter dimensional passage... Did you make this?"
1911. >"We did. We got your messages and figured we'd respond face to face." you reply.
1912. "So they did get through! My superiors called me a failure after I got no immediate response... but now... My God, this is amazing!"
1913. >Dr. Benjamin exclaims, moving his head in what seems to be him taking in his surroundings.
1914. >"You can take off the mask, Doctor. The air is safe."
1915. >Dr. Benjamin removes his mask. He looks not quite like the stereotypical scientist, except for the thick lenses on his glasses. Now you can see his face, he looks like he's thinking.
1916. "You said you're name is 'Anon', right? As in 'Anon Y. Mous'? I've heard of you. They say you're on the run, but... you're here! And... you're now a small winged horse... A-Anyway, I suppose I should ask to be taken to your leader..."
1917. "Of course! They're right over there."
1918. >Fluttershy replies, pointing to the princesses.
1919. "FOUR of them?! Oh, my God..."
1920. >Dr. Ben says. You took for granted how much all this was to take in at first, you now realize.
1921. >"Come on, Doctor. We'll introduce you to everypony."
  1922.
1923. >You spent the rest of the day introducing Dr. Benjamin to the princesses and your friends, and giving him a tour of Ponyville. The doc seemed completely charmed by everything, and was fascinated by every little detail. Eventually, it was time for Celestia to lower the sun and Luna to raise the moon, so the two sisters flew back to Canterlot; Cadence soon caught a train back to the Crystal Empire to make good on a promise to Shining Armor to come back safely.
1924. >You all make your way back to the field and to the portal. When you see the earth door the portal rests in... you notice that it's starting to crumble. Twilight notices too and starts to look worried.
1925. "Oh, no... if that door breaks, then the vortex will keep growing until it covers everything in the universe!"
1926. "Miss Sparkle... what do you mean?"
  1927. >Dr. Ben asks, confused.
1928. "The only thing keeping that portal from expanding is the earth door around it, which is enchanted to hold its shape. But the enchantment won't last forever, and we'll be in trouble if it breaks soon..."
1929. >Twilight says, beginning to freak out.
1930. "Oh, that won't be an issue. Before I came in here, our team stabilized the vortex with a machine we'd been building. It was actually supposed to create the wormhole to this place, but... it seems you did our work for us!"
1931. >Your ears perk up at this. You look at the doctor.
1932. >"Why were you trying to come here?"
1933. "When your... strange case was reported to the FBI, the government asked us to try and hone in on the dimensional rift that was created when Fluttershy here went to and from our world. We were having no luck, only being able to send small items through without being able to sustain the connection. That is, until earlier when your princesses opened the wormhole themselves!"
1934. "So... without even realizing it, we were helping each other out! That's amazing! I guess we don't have a problem after all!"
  1935. >Twilight exclaims.
1936. >Dr. Ben looks over at you again.
1937. "So Anon... you're saying because you were mortally wounded when you came to Equestria, your body was transformed into a pony?"
1938. >"That's right, Doctor. It apparently was a lot more common centuries ago, and there's a lot we still don't know about it." you answer.
1939. "Intriguing... We'll need to perform some experiments... With the princesses' cooperation, I hope?"
1940. >Dr. Ben says, looking over at Twilight.
1941. "Gerald... I like the way you think!"
1942. >Twilight and the doctor start talking to each other, swapping facts of magic and science with each other. You look over at them and a warm feeling spreads through your whole being. If you had chosen to block Equestria off, you never would have met Dr. Benjamin and remembered that there are still good people out there.
  1943.
  1944. "Oh, Nonny~..."
1945. >You know that voice. That's her romantic voice.
1946. >"Yes, Flutters?" you reply turning to her.
1947. "I think that the crisis is over... don't you?"
1948. >She says, smiling and blushing.
1949. >"I don't want to jinx it... but Dr. Ben seems like he'll put in a good word for us to the rest of the humans. It sounds like everything is going to be OK. So... yeah, I guess it is."
1950. "Well... I seem to remember a while back asking you a certain question... A question you couldn't answer because of this crisis..."
1951. >Fluttershy bats her eyelashes as she moves closer to you, still blushing intensely. You know what she's talking about, but decide to play coy.
  1952. >"Refresh my memory?"
1953. "Anon... will you marry me?"
  1954.
  1955. >Will you...?
  1956.
1957. >As if you even need to ask yourself. You move close to Fluttershy and kiss her passionately, running your hoof along her mane. You break the kiss and whisper in her ear...
  1958. >"When's the wedding?"
  1959.
  1960.
  1961. Epilogue
  1962.
  1963.
1964. >It's been two weeks since you and Fluttershy got back from your honeymoon. You decided to make your old house in Ponyville into an office, where everypony who needed somepony to talk to could come to you and get things off their chests. You're not a psychiatrist... just a friend to lend an ear. And the gratuities aren't bad either.
1965. >Now you're living in Fluttershy's cottage... though it's really both of yours now. You're sitting on the couch, your eyes half closed, just reflecting on everything that's happened recently. There may have been some significant bumps in the road, but with how things ended up, you wouldn't have had it any other way.
  1966. "Nonny! Nonny! Wonderful news!"
1967. >Fluttershy opens the front door and flies over to you, giving you a peck on the cheek.
1968. >"Calm down, Flutters! What is it?" you ask.
1969. "We have a new citizen to greet! Pinkie Pie is preparing his party right now! He's just the sweetest little thing you've ever seen."
1970. >"Another kid?" Possibly a terminally ill child, you think. Dr. Ben and Twilight discovered that any human that is on the verge of death can be transformed and get a second chance at life.
1971. "Hurry, Anon, we're running late already!"
1972. >Fluttershy flies off towards Ponyville.
1973. >"Coming, Flutters!" you reply, starting after her.
  1974.
1975. >You were happy before, when you came to Equestria and was able to live with the love of your life. But now that because of you, people and ponies can live together again, you feel as if this was your real purpose all along. And yet still no cutie mark. But, eh, you don't really need it.
1976. >You fly after her to welcome the new arrival with your heart feeling like it's bursting with happiness. You really wouldn't change a thing. Because now, after everything, you're still with her.
  1977.
1978. >Your little pony, your lover, your wife.
  1979.
  1980. >Your Fluttershy.
  1981.
1982. THE END (For real this time.)
