  5. Does Class Size Matter?
  6.
  7. Many parents have concerns about how their child is educated. A main issue is class size. Numbers in classes rise each year a student enters a new grade. Numbers in classes need to be decreased as it is affecting students’ education. Crowded students are more likely to get distracted, become unfocused, and less productive. Crowded teachers are more likely to become stressed and unable to efficiently teach their students. Reducing class size will lead to an increase in grades and productivity in students and a decrease in stress within teachers.
  8. Teachers can only achieve so much within a classroom. No matter the size of the classroom, the teacher has to divide the same school day between them all. The larger the classroom, the less time the teacher can spend with each student. This causes the student’s school education to suffer. Different students learn in different ways. Teaching a subject one way may work for some but not others. Each student requires their own way of retaining information. With a crowded classroom, there isn’t time to teach each student their own way.
  9. Smaller classes show that teachers suffer less stress while in the classroom. Having to educate and control a bigger group of students is found to be energy draining on teachers, and when class sizes are reduced to a decent number, teacher attention will be unbelievably better. A teacher who has less students to control can give much more themselves to certain students who need it most. It has also been found that when class numbers are reduced, the student’s relationship with their teacher improves dramatically. They feel like they can engage further in class, rather than simply listening. The smaller numbers imply that they can feel exceedingly comfortable getting involved, and therefore learning more.
  10. Even though reducing class sizes would be a major benefit to teachers and students, it’s not as simple as reducing the numbers. Those against decreasing class sizes say it’s not workable in most schools’ budgets. To decrease numbers, schools would be obligated to hire more teachers onto their staff. With obstacles already on a majority of school budgets, they simply can’t afford to accomplish this. Due to the obstacles, schools have a great obundance they need to spend their money on. Reducing class sizes is most likely on the bottom of that list. For example, a school has to pay for textbooks, teachers, training, etc. When money is tight, they have no choice but to rely on larger classes to ensure students are educated at all.
  11. As stated before, there’s no apparent fix to the problem. If schools had bigger budgets, they could reduce class sizes. This would allow students and teachers to connect more efficiently, so the educator could educate the educatee successfully. School budget seems to be the biggest problem. However, if the success and education of our human race is important to us, a few budget cuts could be made to make monetary room for more staff on hand to give our future human race the best education they can possibly receive.
