Prinz Eugen breakdown

So i realized after my last character breakdown that i was wrong on her.

Mainly i found that while the Prinz that i envisioned in my head was correct, whenever i wrote about her and talked about her i would project some of my thoughts and feelings and actions on to her, instead of writing who she actually was. This breakdown is my attempt to fix that both for myself, and for people who are curious about her, and for Draw friends who may want a better idea on who she is.

So as always im analyzing her skins and the lines they contain, and working from there. Those skins are
-Her Default Skin
-Unfading Smile (a beach skin i dont use on my ref)
-Profusion of Flowers (her drunk at a Sakura Empire new years party)
-Cordial Cornflower (her drunk at a banquet)
-Symphonic Fate (her wedding skin and her at her happiest and most healthy)

and here are the lines and analysis

Default Skin
Self Introduction (the line that appears when you check her Biography. Essentially this is how she describes herself)

firstly, she introduces herself and her accomplishments, and also mentions the fact that she is a little sister. it is a simple and direct statement that tells me who she is.

Acquisition (when you first receive her as a ship this is how she introduces herself)
>Hmm... so you're the Commander? How long can you keep me amused? I'm looking forward to it.
some ships are impressed to meet the commander and launch into a long introduction about themselves and their battle records, Prinz does not, and she doesnt seem super excited to meet me. she's fairly self absorbed to be honest, and she starts by asking what i can do for her, which is a stark contrast to most ships which seemingly live only to serve and do as i ask. this tends to be a little sister thing, and its where she can be viewed as bratty, and some people take it as bitchy. she views the world through a lens of what it can do for her, and what she gains from it, and she even views me as the commander in that way. at least at first.

seems confused at the idea of me checking in on her, but appreciates it nonetheless. chances are she isnt used to that sort of thing, but as i later find out about how affectionate she is, i tend to view this line as an early indication that she really isnt used to affection, especially with such a tsun sister, which is why she over corrects to incredibly affectionate as she falls in love. she also enjoys the attention she receives from me checking in on her

playful little statement, and shows her pretty more relaxed and caring side.

she really hates that moniker. her voice is serious and annoyed.

>Operation Rheinübung? Looking back, that was how it all began for me.
a moment of self reflection. this operation was one of her first, but also the fated sinking of Bismarck. Bismarck in game is seen as the leader of the Ironblood, or Germany similar to Nagato is the spiritual leader of the Sakura Empire, or Japan. the sinking of Bismarck, a ship she was close to, and her leader so early shaped a lot of her worldview, and her following service history. she seems to be aware of that fact, and pays homage to it. she seems almost apathetic at times tbh. she doesnt have a reason to hope, and seems to prefer to ignore her issues and mask them rather than trying to fix them even if she knows where they came from and what they are.

slightly playful but also with a serious and annoyed tone. being randomly touched can be quite annoying especially by a commander that she doesnt feel any real interest in right now.

she's lewd, and she enjoys sex. certainly on one hand she dresses and acts the way she does to get attention from me, which kind of backfires as it tends to make me uncomfortable, but on the other hand she genuinely enjoys sex, and goes for it when given the opportunity.

she is a warship. she takes charge and can be quite hardworking and tactical even if her other lines show her as more apathetic. combat interests her and so she works hard and tries during it.

playful, and highlights how strong and effective in combat she is. she likes the attention, and plays it off calmly and cooly. she tends to care about what people think of her, and wants to appear effective and in control, and enjoys the attention that comes with winning.

Defeat
>Hehehe... now you've done it...
ultimately she is still an apathetic. she never thought she could be beaten but honestly i think she welcomes it. she feels empty and has nothing to keep going for. nobody ever really sunk her until she herself gave up. here is her being surprised at the fact that she actually was beaten, and accepting it.

she is an empty person. she rides the high of anything that she can get

riding the high of battle, and interested when brought to the brink. she is a warship, and she enjoys war because it brings her pleasure and satisfaction, and removes that empty feeling of hers.

Affinity (Disappointed)

if i disappoint her she stays empty and aloof. she doesnt want me around and explicitly and directly tells me that. this actually tells me a lot about how she acts when mad. she is direct with me about her anger, but also wont tell me why shes mad. just that she is mad, and does not want me around.

she wants attention and affection. she is an empty person as she says, and here she is testing me and seeing if you're willing to try to make her happier, and give her a geniune reason to smile. she can be so caring and loving and affectionate, but she needs a reason to act like that, and so far i'm just another person to her.

Affinity (Friendly)

so ive started to prove to her that you're interested, and worth being around. she starts becoming pretty openly playful and affectionate to me. she jokes and plays around and likes watching how i react. she likes being playful as a form of affection. up until this point she has been rather serious, and some people have called her bitchy even. she just wants her affection to not be in vain.

Affinity (Like)
>Ich liebe dich~ is this a joke or the truth? Why don't you decide for yourself~
she is direct, but also not direct as she speaks about her love and affection for me in German. she is letting me decide how you feel. shes already made up her mind about how she feels, and what she wants. she is quite strong willed and very sure of how she feels. she likes me, but she wants me to make my decision.

Affinity (Love)
>... Why did I laugh? Because it's funny to see you look so confused, Commander... This smile is truly from the bottom of my heart!
she is a deeply loving and affectionate girl. she likes my attention, and at this point fully loves me. she expresses it by telling me that she is giving me a real smile. again this highlights her directness with her feelings, but also her passiveness with the specifics of them.

i love prinz. this line highlights these feelings for me. she tells me just what she was, an empty person, but now she has hope. she doesnt feel as empty. she loves me, and she directly tells me how she feels, but importantly she now tells me WHY she feels the way she does. she has changed. she still loves being playful, and she is playful even as she tells me that she loves me. she has just grown and changed into a better person.

let me make this clear, these will change, and she does get better at some of these, and her very affectionate and loving and caring sides starts to come out. i think her being a younger sister is quite important. unlike what i have past stated she is not an older sister, or motherly. she is caring and loving and affectionate, but she doesnt just throw it out casually. mothers are caring and loving constantly, she needs to be shown that you are worth giving that love and affection to. i love her growth, and how she acts and behaves once she grows to like and enjoy you, but at first it can be rough.

so she has a friendship with wales, and seems to value her opinion. she also cares about how she looks to others, and doesnt want to look foolish. she values attention but she wants it in a good way.

shows how she is empty and not really happy, and she struggles with her smile because it isnt natural. she also again, values attention in a good way. she does not want it in a negative way, and tries to present and portray herself as best as possible.

this is... the only line where she shows caring for other people. it shows her further friendship with Wales, and that theyre close enough for Prinz to want to keep the other Ironblood ships from messing with her, but still while she is caring to the people she loves, she will only go so far to help somebody who keeps making the same mistakes.

Secretary (Idle) 2
>Despite her devil-may-care attitude, Wales is actually quite reliable. In fact, she helps me all the time, even though we were once enemies...
affectionate and appreciative of the people in her life, and expresses her surprise that Wales would be her friend after their fights and issues they had in the war.

Secretary (Idle) 3
>I went and told Hipper about our beach day, and all she said was, 'Why do I need to be jealous about your thin, lewd, and non-combat-ready swimming suit?' Haha, that's so like her!
the voice acting to me tells me that shes upset. she likes to appear cool but she still really wishes her big sister would show interest in the things she enjoys, and would spend time with her. she told her about her plans probably in an effort to get her to come along with it but hipper just isnt that person. hipper is also a little sister type of person, and Prinz wants the caring and affection of a big sister, but hipper doesnt give that to her. Prinz wants love and affectionate, and most importantly attention from the people she loves, but hipper doesnt really acknowledge that or give it to her. this is an example of her using her playfulness, and saying something teasing that is also true. she is being direct without outright saying it. Hipper is a tsun, and she laughs it off but it also still bothers and annoys her.

Secretary (Touch)
>Commander, have you seen Wales? That rascal, she ditched me again!
Again showing her care for Wales, but also that she cares about what people think about her, and wants attention from the people close to her. again she is a bit self absorbed, and wants the focus and time of the people around her.

>There are a lot of good things about Wales, but please avoid picking up her bad habits.
she is lewd and enjoys sex but there is a time and a place for these things. at the beach aint really the time or the place.

she wants attention, and can be a bit bratty and self absorbed. she wants attention from her loved ones and friends, and is a bit dissapointed that she isnt getting any from the people that she wants it from. again we have to understand that this is all her BEFORE she loves you. she does get better and does grow, but it takes her a bit to get there.

again we're painting a pretty fucking negative picture of her here. let me make this clear, she is really emotionally unintelligent. she has a lot of mental health issues caused by the war and her experiences in it. she gets better, and we will talk about why she is the way she is, but right now this is how she is.

So chronologically this skin comes after the Profusion of Flowers skin. she is still an alcoholic here. it makes her feel something. shes quite drunk in this line, but still shows her fundamental desire for attention and affection, and still shows her being quite playful. she keeps kind of spiraling down her hole of alcoholism, and is slowly growing worse.

alright so, she wants my attention, and is direct and upfront about it, while also being passive. this is a test she is giving me where the answer doesnt really matter. she wont believe me when i answer her personality, but still wants the reassurance and affection from that answer, but will also be hurt if i answer body. regardless she wants to engage me, and gets my attention with flirty questions.

she is caring and affectionate. i want that to be made abundantly clear. she cares about me and as time goes on she grows more and more attached to me. she shows that by showing a genuine and wholesome caring and affection for me. this is a really soft and loving line, and shows a sign of how she grows and changes. she shows concern and love for me, as she considers me a loved one.

Starting Mission

annoyed that somebody is ruining her good time, and taking away her attention from the people she loves. simple and direct of her

chronologically this is farther past Profusion of Flowers, and she has changed.. she has grown a bit more attached to me, but also grown deeper into alcoholism, and her mental health certainly has not improved.

she has expressed nothing but hopelessness, and apathy so far. but now she expresses hope. shes normally rather defeatist and aloof. ive changed her and she has grown and become more healthy as a result.

playful, and a great example of how affectionate and loving she is with the people that she loves. she loves me so much, and shows it rather directly, and seems to want to keep showing it to me. she still wants my attention, but is a lot better about it, and feels generally more confident.

playful and abundantly affectionate once again. also an example of her still wanting attention, and shes being better at being flatly direct about what she wants. no human being is fully direct, but she is a lot better about showing me what she wants.

playful, and affectionate while also being very caring. she also is being direct about the fact that she wants attention, and doesnt want me to work too hard because she wants attention and love from me.

this is one of the most fundamental lines she has to me. she is being affectionate and loving, while also being playful. direct yet indirect, but this time she isnt indirect about important things, and instead is doing it in a subtle and loving way. it really highlights how she has grown and changed, and yet still remains the same fundamental girl. she's just healthier and more aware, and has utilizes her traits all for the best reasons now.

Secretary (Touch)
>I know what’s on your mind, Commander...but we need to focus on work right now.
she is responsible when she needs to be, and this is a good example of it. she's been happier and doing better, and as such wants to encourage me to do the same. focus on the things that are important and matter first.

Task

her default task line she did not care, but shes grown and become more responsible, and is willing to work harder for me. shes grown to be more responsible, and lost some of that initial bratty-ness that she has.

Mail
>Receiving a lot of mails….after all, you're the Commander, a really popular one, huh.
still can be possessive, and wants attention from me, but does a lot better at being supportive and loving. again she isnt nearly as bratty and self absorbed, and does her best at being playful and supportive and loving even if she isnt very used to being that way. she is still growing and getting better, and always will be. all of us are.

Return From Mission
>Commander, the bathtub has been filled with hot water, so who goes first, or…?
just loving and affectionate again, and she desires my attention. bathing and showering with loved ones tends to be viewed as a very sexual thing inherently, but i tend to view cleaning another person in that way to be a deeply loving and intimate way to show affection, and i think thats an idea prinz would agree with. also most likely because she is a fiend and wants sex, but still! it can be cute and loving too.

Prinz at her best is like this.

Prinz is fundamentally a little sister type. she wants what she wants, and can be quite bratty, but i think taking these traits at face value does a massive disservice to her.

she is bratty and self absorbed because she sacrificed everything to for her country and her loved ones, and got nothing in return. just pain. she goes after what she wants because she has lived for others for so long and been constantly hurt and screwed over by this, and so she shifts over to just doing what she wants. it is so hard to get her to change to caring and motherly because she is so afraid of getting hurt once again that she doesnt want to take the risk.

she wants affection, and attention, and is so affectionate herself because nobody that she ever had acted that way. her sister is a tsun and doesnt really give her the time of day, and so the only way she can get her to pay attention is by being playful and messing with Hipper. she has never really had a big sister, and even Bismarck who could maybe have filled that role was sunk far too early to have had any impact on Prinz. Prinz has always shown respect and deference to Bismarck, but Bismarck could never have been around to give Prinz what she needed. which was genuine love and guidance.

She is strong willed because she is a warship that cant overthink and second guess, and in absence of a leader like Bismarck she had to take charge. she is a leo in many senses, and goes after many of the things that she wants and desires. she knows what she wants, and takes charge. she can be direct and dominating because she had to be, and because she is confident and sure of herself and of her abilities.

she's playful because she had to be to get the attention and affection that she wanted, and it was reinforced when she lost everything. she is aloof and distant and not serious because of everything that she has lost. she has nothing, and she lost everything, and so it is hard for her to be attached to things that dont interest her because she is tired of wasting time on things she isnt interested in. she lost everything once before doing everything she had to for everybody else, and now she sees no reason to be dedicated and serious because she has no hope that anything will be different here. she'd rather just do things that she wants, and not care about the rest. thats why she can be bratty and some people rudely say bitchy, because she has no interest or patience in wasting time on pointless things that she doesnt think will end up mattering. she will still work hard when she has to, but does not care if it does not directly matter or affect her.

she is sexual and lewd, and likes to drink because she wants to go after the things in life that she wants, and wants to feel less empty. alcohol not only makes her feel less and less like an empty person, but also makes it easier for her to do the things she wants, and not worry too much about what others think. its no surprise her most sexual and lewd behaviors are in her drunk skins. she stops caring and just goes after the things she wants.

Prinz was born to be ready for war. she started fighting and on one of her first missions her spiritual leader Bismarck was killed. she spent so much time being shot at and nearly sunk, and somehow survives. she's given to the US in bad shape, and she gets worse off while there. her new owners and commanders that should have taken care of her instead tossed her into a nuclear bomb test with Nagato, and quite a few of their own ships. she survived two nuclear bombs. she lived and was towed away, but she lost all of her hope, and just tipped over and sunk. she finally gave up.

every bit of her life and personality needs to be interpreted through her experiences. she drinks to deal with the empty depressed miserable feeling she has, and those experiences are all of the pain and suffering ive described above.

and then she meets me. im able to give her hope and a reason and a desire to try again. she can be bratty and offputting because she does not want to be hurt again, but still desperately wants attention and affection. she lives in a world of self imposed limits and contradictions that do nothing but hurt her and cause her issues, but she doesnt seem to want to change because she doesnt want to be hurt and betrayed again. she doesnt want to lose and give up again. but she grows. she learns to accept the things that happened, and she becomes happier. she expresses the sweet and loving and affectionate parts of her personality, and stops being afraid. she truly becomes the direct person she is, but doesnt let her limits stand in her way. she still has a lot more room to grow, and change, but she is trying and growing. she is changing and doing better even if she struggles and slips sometimes. she may not be entirely human, but she certainly is human in her struggles and issues.

which is why i love her. she is real. she struggles and hurts and wants so badly to hope but has truly given up and moved on, but despite that the human desire to hope and grow still pervades, and she still tries to get attention and affection and grow and become better, but wont let herself fully accept those desires and move and grow. but then she does. with my help and guidance and support she stops being an empty person, and grows into the wonderful loving woman i always knew she could be.

Relationship Dynamics

Prinz and i can both be fairly self centered, and so our relationship tends to be one of compromises. she and i are both very affectionate and openly loving and sweet to the other, and exchange a lot of kind words. she is a lot more direct than me, and often initiates a lot of our conversations and interactions in general. She encourages me to be further direct, and do the things that i want, while i encourage her to be more clear, and help her accept and move on from her past and all the things she has gone through. we both tend to compliment the other's weaknesses, and try to encourage each other to do better and be better. she likes being playful and making me embarrassed or flustered especially around other people.

this will probably be relevant if i ever create an SI but for now i just want to give an idea on how we act around each other
