- Reading the land is something most people don't understand. Even growing up with the Elves who spent their whole lives in the great forest, they never could understand the tracks or the trees the way you did. That was something you and the natural world had in common, at least. They didn't understand you either, they never could. Nature though, did. It fed you. It clothed you. It protected you. It was something you could rely on, that never forced you from your path.
- Now, however, was the first time it had ever decided to speak. What it had to say gave you the distinct feeling you wish it had remained quiet, yet you knew this message was only for you and you alone. Something was stirring in the woods to the north, deep in the Elven Circle something dark was mustering from the darker places, deep in forbidden woods even you would not walk. You took to the trees for council, but they had nothing to say. To the animals of the land you asked advice, but their advice was fleeting. From the bugs of the planet you took guidance, but they remained silent.
- So you marched, deep into the belly of what your brothers had long called a disease of the world; to one of the cities of law. Law, they said, was a structure made to choke the freedom and life from your people, until they all conformed to an ideal no one really wanted but those on top demanded. However you heard law also bound people. Bound them to duty. Bound them to paths of the good of others. Now, at the end of all other options, it appears you would seek out a band bound by law to protect what you really cared about; the natural world, the things around you. You had promised to yourself that you would repay the world for what it had given you, and now the time had come.
- When you said "Protectors! Heroes! Men at arms!" they pointed you in one direction, to a large building under construction, the home of newly arrived adventurers who had just done a great good. Maybe, just maybe, whoever this men are, they are up to the task of doing for you the good you see fit done.
