  1. Mr. Pennythrift: Thank you! Superman! Thank you for saving me from these crooks!
  2. Superman: You're welcome Mr. Pennythrift but all I did was the easy part. I need you! You and the community to do the hard part and stop poverty, drug addiction and all the other problems that cause someone to fall into a life of crime.
  3. Mr. Pennythrift: What? What are you some kind of pinko or something?
  4. Superman: Listen up! Politics is a reason to oppose government programs and support private charity. Not to simply ignore the problem.
  5. Mr. Pennythrift: But really? What can I do to stop crime? A certain amount of crime is just natural Superman!
  6. Superman: Just Natural! Let me show you something.
  7. Superman jets off carrying Mr. Pennythrift under his arm. In a flash Superman lands on a fireescape in the slums of Chicago overlooking a dark alleyway.
  8. Superman: This is Chicago! And a rapist is attempting a crime right now!
  9. Superman dashes down in front of a thug menacing a woman with a gun. The thug shoots Superman and the bullet bounces off towards Mr. Pennythrift. Superman dashes up and catches the bullet then dashes back and knocks the thug out. Superman shakes the woman's hand and then dashes back up to Mr. Pennythrift.
  10. Superman: I don't always stop every crime Mr. Pennythrift. I just can't. But I sure do hear all of them. You tell my why Mr. Pennythrift: Why is it that there is always so much more crime in the poor-black areas of Chicago?
  11. Mr. Pennythrift: Look. Racism is a horrible thing but what can I do to stop it? It's just part of society.
  12. Superman: Let me show you something else.
  13. Superman picks up Mr. Pennythrift and then dashes off to Mexico.
  14. Superman: They call this the highway of death! Because one night Mexican gangsters stopped a bus full of innocent people and killed them all!
  15. Superman: I can stop many of these crimes but I can't stop the drug money fueling the mafias taking a brutal toll on Mexico!
  16. Mr. Pennythrift: Look. I don't see where you are going with this.
  17. Superman: Just one more place.
  18. Superman picks up Mr. Pennythrift and dashes off again to Africa.
  19. He sets down Mr. Pennythrift on top of a crowded shopping mall.
  20. Superman: This is Africa and Islamic terrorists are killing people because they believe god tells them to do that. In a few minutes a foolish young man is planning to set off a bomb!
  21. Superman dashes down and rips off the bomb strapped to the chest of the young man in the shopping mall and then throws it into the air. He then blows it up with laserbeam vision.
  22. Superman: Now go away young man! And kill no more!
  23. Mr. Pennythrift (pale, nervous): There was a bomb...
  24. Superman: There was a bomb because people felt religious scripture told them to do that: Will you tell me that's natural too!
  25. Superman: I have no more place to show you. Don't hold your breath because we're going to space!
  26. Superman picks up Mr. Pennythrift and for five seconds drags him into outer space showing him the whole world in his vision.
  27. Then they plummet down to earth and as they are falling.
  28. Superman: That was the world Mr. Pennythrift! And it is your responsibility! Each and everyone of us has a duty to the world because if we don't fix things no one else will!
  29. They set down in Washington DC in front of a museum ___.
  30. Superman: There are many places in the world worse off than America. And as a patriot I believe America is worse off than it could be too! None of this is natural and much of it can be fixed.
  31. Mr. Pennythrift: But you're asking all much too much! I'm not responsible for racism, mafias and terrorism. And how am I supposed to fix it anyway?
  32. Superman: You don't need to fix it right away. You just need to take responsibility and start working towards it. I stopped in front of this ____ for a reason!
  33. Background collage of civil rights leaders
  34. Superman: These are all great people, flawed people, but great nonetheless who took the torch handed to them by their ancestors and carried it forward to their sons.
  35. Superman: They never fixed everything. Who can! But they served as a great inspiration to the future.
  36. Mr. Pennythrift: I still can't do all that!
  37. Superman: I have one more place to show you.
  38. Superman grabs Mr. Pennythrift and brings him to the Kent farm.
  39. Superman: This is the farm I was raised on. I was gifted great powers but was raised by normal human parents. And they were my inspiration most of all. You don't need to an international hero! Just be a father to your community and children!
  40. Superman: Goddamnit! Didn't you have parents who raised you right!
  41.
  42. Pause
  43.
  44. Mr. Pennythrift: No.
  45. Superman grabs Mr. Pennythrift and hugs him.
  46. Superman: I'm sorry I got so angry. I had a long day. If you like you can tell me more.
  47. Mr. Pennythrift: It's not strange or unusual. My parents worked very hard to make the fortune that I inherited. So hard that I never really got to see them.
  48. Superman: I know a lot of heroes who have faced personal tragedy. But even then I know few that have had to bear that kind of weight.
  49. Superman brings Mr. Pennythrift back to his hometown.
  50. Superman muses to himself: Most people who are cruel, mean or criminals are just normal people like everybody else. And rarely if ever did they just decide to be bad people. There are a lot of reasons people act the why they do. And it is more heroic to help them be a better person than simply scold them.
