  1. she could have one of those really depressing ones where the immune system attacks your muscles, I can't remember what the fuck they're called though, hmm
  2. or something like I gave godfrey, unspecified autoimmune disorder that attacks the nervous system and degrades the myelin sheathes on the nerves
  3. (how and/or why I remember this seven years later I will never fucking know but there you go)

  5. The more specified the better just bc idk if we could get shit for "not showing work" or "you just assigned her sickitis"
  6. Magnifisloth03/12/2018
  7. show-not-tell, I never outright stated what godfrey had but the symptoms were pretty obvious, and the kinda shit she had to deal with :V
  8. I'll drudge up some greek later idfk; but the name matters less than the symptoms
  9. olivinearc03/12/2018
  10. True that
  11. And frey managed to travel and stuff
  12. Magnifisloth03/12/2018
  13. yeah, even if she's had it all her life stuff like that tends to present pathologically during the teenage years iirc
  14. because, y'know, all those lovely chemicals causing havoc and making the body do the weird shit it do to have a growth spurt :V
  15. olivinearc03/12/2018
  16. Younger?
  17. Middle school?
  18. Magnifisloth03/12/2018
  19. makes sense - thing is, once it's presented the progression varies drastically from individual to individual
  20. she could be relatively alright all the way up to like, six months before she got turned
  21. olivinearc03/12/2018
  22. Let's say she's a slow burn
  23. Was it unnamed or just you didn't bring up the specific name btw, for clarification
  24. Magnifisloth03/12/2018
  25. so we can be lazy and look at what I did to Godfrey for her last year, the rest would just have been stuff like occasionally numb extremities or trouble keeping her balance or all that lovely nebulous shit that's hard to pin down - it's literally unnamed as far as I recall
  26. but again, been seven years - when I'm less brainstorm-y I'll google for actual names but for now we are Spitballing Symptoms :V
  27. ....
  28. something something hero of time something where's my goddamn master sword I need to go back and shank a bitch V:
  29.
  30. anyway a sort of rough progression for godfrey's disease was like... he's also a touch shorter than average thanks to that btw, because IIRC (not a doctor yet if ever) the growth plates are made of a similar molecule to the nerve sheathes, anyway - always a little stumblier and fumblier than average, becomes more noticeable around age 13, between 13 and 15 he started to slow down a fair bit since everything just sort of ached all the time, 16-17 he started losing function at the extremities, especially on his left side, 17-18 his left arm and leg were more or less dead weight (although he had a surgery that reconnected things to an extent; it's something stroke victims have had some success with and was like... the article was a couple years old in 2011), if he'd survived past that he'd probably have had the procedure done once or twice more before he was literally trapped in a flesh prison by the age of 24 or so
  31. (and then death shortly thereafter)
  32. this is a very rough timeline and if I ever had any notes I sure as shit don't now V:
  33. Magnifisloth03/12/2018
  34. zubat and ghost, yes
  35. also let's not forget the fury and crippling depression owing to the ridiculous unfairness of it all
  36. (probably a bit mitigated in Madi in that she knows she's got an out but living with that shit would still suck)
  37. one thing people seem to forget is that being badly ill with no real cure possible is psychologically agonizing - you're losing bits of you, you can't get them back, you didn't do anything to deserve it, it sucks.
  38. olivinearc03/12/2018
  39. i think the illness needs to be big enough to inevitably kill her or lead to killing her, but still allow her to drag herself through the more academic parts of her education
  40. and they still want highschool and stuff not homeschooled for the social bits
  41. Magnifisloth03/12/2018
  42. the godfrey special seems just the ticket, then, maybe with some modifications :v
