- pros/cons
- Street Fighter 5
- pros:
- -i'm very familiar with it and could teach you how to play it
- -"grounded, fundamental" gameplay style, things are USUALLY visually clear and easy to understand
- -defensive options are probably the easiest to use here out of any franchise
- -the cheapest option for the base game
- -i already have it so i dont have to spend any money lol
- -personally has my favorite characters and such, ppl like ryu/chun li are very iconic
- -easy to learn, hard to master
- -big, active community, frequent big fun to watch tournaments. esports baby
- -the season 1 pass for characters is also on sale so you can also buy ~$35 worth of characters (individually; the pass is normally $20) for $10.
- cons:
- -you'll have to buy/grind for DLC characters separately
- -often not the best looking visual style lol
- -netcode can be very wonky. sometimes great, sometimes ruins matches
- -a few extra frames of built in input lag compared to other games (not as bad as it sounds and not super noticeable for people who aren't purposely looking, but does have some consequences on how the meta of the game has evolved as some things have become harder to react to)
- -no real single player content besides practicing. story mode is terrible.
- -you'll have to go outside the game to the internet or ask me about stuff to actually learn a lot of things
- -there will be a big skill gap between us here; possibly true for any fighting game, but very true here. it -shouldn't- be impossible to overcome but most people ive tried to get into the game have given up before they managed to do it
- Tekken 7
- pros:
- -well regarded as a pretty good/solid video game
- -koreans love tekken. for some reason
- -combos are REALLY easy to learn, possibly the easiest of any of these options
- -has an extra dimension sort of (you can move to the backward/forward/left/right, instead of the usual 2d just forward/backward)
- -not the smallest community
- -you get more characters for your initial purchase
- -we'd be starting on more even ground skill-wise than street fighter
- -actual single player content, i think? possible this is false
- cons:
- -i dont know too much about this game but i think it looks ugly as hell
- -defending yourself in this game is hard
- -has an extra dimension. change angers me
- -smaller community than sf5
- -a little more expensive for the base game
- -you'd have to do your own research to learn the game
- -has some goofy shenanigans
- -despite having more characters, the characters aren't as distinct from each other overall
- -tournament scene and such isn't nearly as big or interesting as SF's
- Guilty Gear
- pros:
- -has a really good tutorial. considered to possibly be the best ingame fighting game tutorial of all time
- -very flashy and cool looking. the most aesthetically appealing big name fighter atm, imo
- -anime shit, if you're into that
- -an anime fighter. that means really big combos, complicated mechanics, weird movement options, fast paced and explosive gameplay. like tekken, offense is easy, defense is hard
- -also a more even playing ground for us
- cons:
- -going to be kind of complicated to actually buy it
- -anime shit, if you're not
- -an anime fighter. all those things described as a positive could also be seen as negatives depending on your point of view
- -single player content is possibly also lacking here
- -more expensive than street fighter. possibly only slightly more, like a dollar or two extra, but possibly like $40, im not totally sure atm because like i said its complicated to buy it lol
