- DO NOT PICK UP ANY POKETCH APPS YOU HAVE NO USE FOR!
- As usual, a single copy only holds one save file. If you want to re-play
the game without losing your old save file, you'll need to buy another copy.
- The battles are very slow even when compared to previous entries
which were already too slow. To speed things up, you have to press A
at the end of a message (sometimes twice).
- Because of the way the buttons are laid out during battle, you need
to be careful not to accidentally run away when going from Bag to Pokémon.
- Pokérus doesn't catch too well if the infected Pokémon is/are on a
lower level than the one(s) you're trying to infect.
- Aside from the base values, stat growth is affected by three things:
Nature, IVs and EP.
 × A Pokemon's Nature modifies two of the monster's stats, with one
 stat receiving a 10% bonus and another receiving a 10% penalty. HP is
 not affected by Nature. Synchronize makes it easy to get the Nature
 you want (it gives the wild Pokemon a 50% chance to have the same
 Nature as the Synchronizer).
 × IVs are random values ranging between 0-31. Each stat is assigned
 one of these values which is then gradually added to said stat.
 × EP (or EV) is gained from killing enemies. You gain a specific amount
 of EP to one or two stats (usually just one point for one stat) from a
 given enemy. The total max amount of EP a Pokemon can have is 510. The
 max value for an individual stat is 255. The stat bonus is EP/4 which
 translates to a bonus of at most 127 stat points (63 for an individual
 stat).
  × EP gain can be boosted with Pokerus (2x), Macho Brace (2x) and the
  Power accessories (+4).
  × Vitamins like Protein and Calcium increase EP by 10 (can't be
  boosted) up to a maximum of 100.
  × The berries from 21 to 26 lower a stat's EP.
- When using Synchronize to alter the Nature of a wild monster, levels
are no longer a factor. Also, the only Legendaries immune to it are the
runners.
- As usual, most of the TMs and hold items you obtain are Unique.
- There are now 493 Pokemon. 5 of these are strictly event only, so the
highest number you can obtain is 488.
- Migrating Pokemon from a GBA game to DPP only works between games of
the same regional version.
- There are no Trade restrictions. You can easily trade Natdex monsters
to a pre-Nat game. These Pokémon will not count towards your figures,
and their Pokédex number will show as '???'
- There is no way to transfer Pokemon from a later generation game to
an earlier one.
- If you need Master Balls, replaying FRLG is the best way to get them.
- On very specific days, some routes will have altered weather effects
(some merely cosmetic).

- You'll start a new game automatically when / if you boot up a copy
with no save data.
- You'll start off with 3000p and no items.
- Go check on your rival in one of the houses, then head for the lake.
Save your game before entering the area, so you can reroll your starter's
Nature. The three starters are: Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup.
- After your trip to Lake Verity, you'll receive the Running Shoes.
They won't actually show up in your inventory, though. Anyway, you can
finally run in all indoor areas.

- Some guy will block your path to Route 203 until you've obtained the
Town Map and Pokétch.
- Once you have the Town Map, you can get the Pokétch from the Pokétch
Company president once you have the three coupons from the three clowns.
The four default applications (or apps, for short) are: Digital Clock,
Calculator, Pedometer, Status. You can obtain more of these by talking
to certain NPCs. There are about 20 apps in total, although most of
them are useless. Do *NOT* pick up any apps you have no use for! Since
you have to browse through the applications one by one, they'll simply
get in your way as you're trying to find the one that you actually need.
I'll be sure to tell you when you need to avoid someone who'd give you
a shitty app when you talk to them.

- Now that you have one badge, you can pick up a new app from the
Pokétch Company president. It's nothing really useful, but you should
probably grab it and get used to it, as the next one he gives you
(with 3 badges) is actually very important (although not strictly
necessary) for tracking down the two Runner Legendaries.
- After getting the Fashion Case (which has 10 Accessories and 2 Backdrops
by default), you can check out the Jubilife TV Station. On the first
floor, you'll find the lottery and a trainer who changes depending on
the day of the week. The lottery prizes are:
 1 hit:  Backdrop
 2 hits: PP Up
 3 hits: Exp. Share
- The second floor has the, er... Fitting Room. Not sure what the point
of that is. There's also a guy who'll give you a free Accessory (a mask
of your starter).
- On the third floor, you'll find a bunch of computers that display
statistics such as: Pokemons killed / caught / hatched from eggs /
caught with a rod.

- You can buy Honey for 100p here. Although you can technically use it

Once you've done that, check back with them about 12 hours later,
and you're likely to run into Pokemon that can't be found any other
way (Combee, Burmy, Cherubi, Aipom, Heracross, Munchlax). If you're
going for a Munchlax, you'll need a ton of Honey as well as patience.
They are very rare.

- ATTENTION!! DO NOT TALK TO THE WOMAN IN THE POKECENTER! If you talk
to this NPC, she'll automatically give you Poketch App 6, the Friendship
Checker. It's not *completely* useless, but later in the game you won't
really need it. At that point, if you need to evolve someone through
happiness, just give them the Soother Bell and pop in a bunch of berries
(between #21 - #26), and that's it.
- You can change your Pokémons' names at the Name Rater.
- In one of the houses, you'll find the Underground Man. Using the
Explorer Kit he gives you, you'll be able to explore the underground
caves that span across the entire Sinnoh region. There are six regions
in all, four of which you'll be able to access during the "main game."
Using the kit in Eterna will get you in the biggest of these expanses
(probably the one you'll be spending the most time in).
- Anyway, the Underground is the first mini-game you'll have access to
(and a fairly engaging one). You'll be using the touch screen extensively,
as you search for and dig up items within the caves. You'll see their
rough location on the upper screen, and once you're closer, it's time to
use the sonar thing (by touching the lower screen) to find their exact
locations in the walls. Examine these spots to start the digging process
where your goal is to hack through the varying layers of stone using the
pickaxe and the hammer and find the items before the wall collapses from
the force generated by your tools (no time limit).
- Most of the stuff you'll find will be these Spheres you can use for
a couple of things (but only Underground):
 × When you bury them in the ground, more digging spots will appear in
 their vicinity as time passes. Fairly important if you want the good
 stuff. There seems to be a limit to how many you can bury, though, and
 once you hit that limit, the oldest spheres will start disappearing.
 The Spheres also grow in size when buried, but I don't think their
 size (or type) affects the treasure.
 × You can also trade them with the hikers found Underground for traps
 and pieces of furniture and decoration to be used in your Secret Base.
- The other stuff you can find takes priority, though, as it's something
that's actually useful for your adventure above ground. We're talking
about stuff like Heart Scales, Revives, Evolution stones, Fossils and
Plates. Some of the items are more common depending on your version.
 × The Plates seem to be one-time only. I thought the Odd Keystone
 might be as well, but then I dug up 3 of them over the course a single
 day, so, yeah... (although it did happen over 500 hours after I got
 the first one)
- Then there's the Secret Base you can create using the Digger Drill
(obtained from the Underground Man once you've tried out the basics).
Once you have one, you can play Capture the Flag (this is where you're
supposed to make use of those traps). Or at least *try* to play. The
whole thing already lags enough when you're alone. When you actually
have someone else there, things just get a little too unresponsive. I
played it with one of my other save files just enough to get 10 flags,
so you can use the radar thing on your PC and get rid of most of the
boulders (not going for 50, though. I like my blue Trainer Card the way
it is).
- So, to wrap things up: Forget about the spheres and go for the items
(besides, if you keep getting those spheres, you'll quickly find that
you can't carry any more of them). I myself let the wall collapse on
purpose once I've gotten all the real items and I've identified all
the remaining items to be spheres. Don't forget to actually move the
items to your bag (they give you a separate inventory Underground).
- The music gets pretty annoying after a while, so better turn it off.
- Note that you'll find a few traps already lying around near treasure
spots, so keep an eye out for them (some of them can be a little difficult
to break free from as you're supposed to blow into your DS or something).
- Sometimes the digging spot will respawn immediately after the digging
ends, so you should make a habit of hitting A as soon as you're in control
again.
- You can resurrect your fossils at the Oreburgh Mining Museum, although
there's only one you can get during the main game: Armor Fossil (Bastiodon)
in Pearl and Skull Fossil (Cranidos) in Diamond.

- Well, you can use Cut now, but let's take care of things here in Eterna
before we start backtracking. Head for the Team Galactic Eterna Building.

- You'll find two entrances to the Wayward Cave here (one of which is
hidden). They lead to two different areas of the cave that aren't
connected. You can't explore the other one yet, but I'll be covering
the first one after the Cut clean-up.

- You'll run into Lucas here, who's kind enough to give you the Vs Seeker
and Item Finder (aka Dowsing Machine), both very important.
 × The Vs Seeker is used to re-challenge trainers you've already fought
 before (can only be used in regular outdoor areas). Works about 50% of
 the time and needs 100 steps to recharge after use. A great source for
 xp and money if you know who to target. Most trainers you shouldn't
 really bother with (unless it's a route you've recently gained access
 to), but some people will actually level up their Pokémon as you progress
 in the game. I wonder if you could find a list of these trainers somewhere...
 × The Item Finder isn't the same as it used to be, but it gets the job
 done. Chances are you'll be using this one a lot. Just keep in mind,
 there are no hidden items inside buildings (with no encounters) *or*
 places where I simply haven't listed any (unless I've missed something).

- There's a guy near the east entrance who will give you a Happiny egg
(approx. 10 000 steps to hatch).
- There's a girl in the Pokémon Fan Club who can tell you approximately
how happy your Pokémons are.
- In order to get into Amity Square, you'll need a "cute" Pokémon like
Pachirisu or Psyduck. Make sure you check it out for the items - the
Amulet Coin in particular, which is actually hidden from view (but not
hidden like invisible). Your Pokémon will also pick up Contest accessories
and berries while you're walking around (every 200 steps).
- You'll have to check out the Contest Hall before you can proceed east.
Once you have, you'll also run into your rival again.

- If you didn't choose Priplup, you could now catch a Goldeen as your
Water-type.
- Chanseys have a small chance of holding a Lucky Egg (double xp),
but unless you have a Lv46 Kadabra / Alakazam, you can't really get
a hold of them without catching them.
- The little broken tower (near the honey tree) is where you can
encounter Spiritomb, and this is the only way you can find (and catch)
one. There are two requirements you need to satisfy:
 × Meet 32 people Underground. You'll see how many people (as in,
 other players) you've "met" in the status screen, and you need to
 get this number to at least 32. Fairly easy, as you can get it up by
 talking to the same player as long as you visit a Secret Base after
 each time.
 × Use an Odd Keystone on the tower.

- A good place to level up your Bronzor if you picked one up. Try to
hit Lv33.
- It'll take a while before you can use Strength on the field (requires
the 6th badge).
- For some reason, this place doesn't have its own "ID." If you check
the save screen, it'll just say Route 209.

you do, he'll give you Pokétch App 10 (Pokémon History). You have *no*
need for this, and it's actually the first of two useless apps you can
pick up here.
- Pick up a bunch of Dusk Balls (1000p each).
- The guy working at the Pokémon News Press will ask you to show him
a random Pokémon. If you can manage to do that, he'll give you a few
balls of random type. Each day he'll ask for another one.
- The Pokémon Day Care is where you can drop off one or two of your
monsters, so that they'll gain 1 xp for each step you take (they'll
automatically learn new moves and evolve). This is where breeding
takes place as well, but there's not much use to it yet. I'll be sure
to bring it up again in the post-game. Also, once you've dropped off
your first Pokémon, a man will appear by the little table. DO NOT TALK
TO THIS MAN! If you do, he'll give you Pokétch App 09 (Day-Care Checker).
You just don't need that.

- You'll have your first chance to pick up some Ultra Balls (1200p)
at the Veilstone Department Store. Among other things of interest,
they've got the six stat-boost items (Protein, Calcium, etc.). Pretty
expensive stuff (9800p) but quite useful in EP training (more on that
later).
- On the second floor of the store, you'll find a woman who will give
Pokétch App 11. If you have *no* interest whatsoever in EP training,
you should probably skip it.
- In one of the houses, you'll find a woman who can give a massage to

- Either way, now that you have the Natdex, the post-game has become
available (without the upgrade, all you can do is the Battle Tower, but
that's it). Also, any Natdex exclusive monsters you may have received
during the main game by trading will now count towards your log.
- The first point of interest is right here in Sandgem. Go talk to
Lucas's little sister to learn about Pokémon Swarms. This thing is
really quite simple. Each day, some Pokémon will be swarming in a
specific area. She'll tell you what it is and where, so all you need
to do is fly there and catch one (the encounter rate is quite high).
You don't actually have to talk to Lucas's sister to trigger the swarm,
so you may sometimes run into one by coincidence. The 28 monsters on
the swarm list are as follows (and none of these can be encountered any
other way):
 Pidgey, Magnemite, Farfetch'd, Doduo, Drowzee, Krabby, Voltorb, Cubone,

- This one's on Route 221, in case you forgot. Inside, you'll run
into Oak again who insists on giving you Pokétch App 20. No idea what
it's for. Either way, this is where you "claim" all the Pokémon that
you migrate from the GBA games. The process is quite simple (of course
first you need to play the GBA installments in order to actually have
something to transfer).
- BE WARNED: In order for migrating to be possible, the GBA games have
to be from the *exact* same region as the DS cart! Eg. you *cannot*
import Pokémon from a North American copy of Sapphire to a European
Pearl. (Unfortunately, the NA versions are all over the place here,
since people couldn't be bothered to wait for the European release)
- Right, let's say you've played through Leaf Green, and you've got
Bulbasaur and some Legendary birds and whatnot ready to be transferred
(unless you're prepared to do some breeding, you'll have to play
through the game without the starter. Not a big deal. Alternatively,
you can transfer the starter early on and then simply start a new game).
Start up the DS game with Leaf Green in the GBA slot, and you'll no
doubt notice a new option in the main menu called 'Migrate from LeafGreen.'
Select that and you can (most likely) proceed to choose the 6 monsters
you wish to transfer. Once you're finished, you can just load up your
save, and pick them up at the Pal Park.
- They won't just hand them over to you, though. This is the part where
you'll have to do the 'Catching Show.' This is just a formality, though.
In this mini-game, I suppose you could call it, you'll be supplied with
6 "Park Balls" that you're supposed to use to re-capture the monsters.
These balls never fail to make the catch, so all you need to do is run
around and find the monsters. The Park Ball will *not* replace the type
of ball the Pokémon was originally sealed in, although the date of
encounter *will* be replaced with the date of transfer. You'll also be
scored based on your performance and whatever, and you'll obtain some
fairly insignificant item (the default record holder is your rival with
2000 points).
- Keep in mind, once you've migrated a batch, that specific GBA game
will be "locked" for 24 hours (starting from when you complete the
process in the main menu) before you can import again. Also, you can't
transfer anything if you still haven't claimed the previous batch.
- Migrating is definitely a good way to increase your Pokédex figures,
although in many cases, you can still find the Pokémon one way or another
in Pearl / Diamond. Here's a list of Pokémon that you *will* have to
import (including ones that have very low encounter rates in DP and
ones that would otherwise require breeding):

his kid or wife.

- You can now pick up a free Eevee (Lv5) at Bebe's place (this is for
obtaining the Natdex, not for what you did at Canalave).


      -- Old Chateau --

 Boss: Rotom Lv15

- Another Legendary is (most likely) waiting for you in the Old Chateau.
Examine the TV in one of the rooms late at night (between 10 PM and
4 AM), and there's a good chance you'll encounter Rotom. Dragon Rage
works great here (sometimes it might kill it, though). After that,
it'll likely take only one Dusk Ball. The remaining Legendaries will
be much harder to catch, I can assure you. Either way, if you want good
IVs, these are the stats you're looking for (Modest is the obvious
Nature here - hope you have a Synchronizer):

      -- Pastoria --

- There are 6 new exclusive Pokémon you may encounter at the marsh:
Paras, Exeggcute, Kangaskhan, Yanma, Shroomish, Gulpin. If you want
these with a specific Nature, you should probably resort to importing
(doesn't help with Exeggcute and Kangaskhan, though).


      -- Trophy Garden --

- Go talk to Mr. Backlot to hear about some new Pokémons that he's
seen in his garden. He'll mention one in specific, and at that point
you can encounter it in the Trophy Garden. Each day he'll mention
another one. There are 16 different Pokémon you can trigger this
way. Two of these will appear at the same time, and they will *not*
be replaced until you talk to Backlot again. The list is:
 Cleffa, Clefairy, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Meowth, Happiny, Chansey,

- You're probably familiar with the Battle Tower from previous installments,
but in case you're not, the enemies are at the level of your highest level
Pokemon, Legendaries are banned, you don't gain Exp, and you can't use
healing items for some reason. That's... great. That's just f**king great.
- If you're doing EP training, you'll need to grind enough BP for the
Power accessories listed above. This is going to take quite a while,
as you only get 3 BP for a streak of 7 trainers, and a single streak
can easily take 15 minutes. And, of course, you might not even survive.
I die about half the time myself.

- You won't actually encounter Heatran on your first visit, so you can
just go in with your regular party.
- Watch out for Exploding Gravelers and Weezings.
- You'll team up with Buck on your search for the Magma Stone.
- Once Buck has the Magma Stone, go talk to him at the Survival Area.
At that point, you can find Heatran idling around in the Magma Stone
chamber. Don't forget the usual Legendary preparations: Dusk Balls,
Synchronizer, max 5 party.

[Boss]
- Heatran has Lava Plume, Iron Head, Fire Spin and Scary Face by default
(55 PP in total). That means you probably won't be able to switch
monsters, you'll spend some turns healing Burn, and you won't be able
to use Hypnosis before it gets to act. Hopefully your Hypnotist isn't
weak to Fire. You might actually want to go with Paralysis instead here.
- Note that Heatran can be either male or female (makes no difference
really).
- I'm not planning on using Heatran myself, so I didn't actually put
that much effort into this one, but if you're looking for a good stat
roll, here's what to aim for:
 220 HP, 148 Atk, 175 Def, 225 SAT, 157 SDF, 132 Spd  (Rash)


      -- Snowpoint Temple --
