  1. Pokémon Pearl / Diamond
  2.
  3. Platform: DS
  4. Released:
  5. 28.09.2006 (J)
  6. 22.04.2007 (NA)
  7. 27.07.2007 (EU)
  8.
  9. Based on: European version (NTR-APAP-EUR) (P) / (NTR-ADAP-EUR) (D)
  10.
  11.
  12.
  13.
  14. - DO NOT PICK UP ANY POKETCH APPS YOU HAVE NO USE FOR!
  15. - As usual, a single copy only holds one save file. If you want to re-play
  16. the game without losing your old save file, you'll need to buy another copy.
  17. - The battles are very slow even when compared to previous entries
  18. which were already too slow. To speed things up, you have to press A
  19. at the end of a message (sometimes twice).
  20. - Because of the way the buttons are laid out during battle, you need
  21. to be careful not to accidentally run away when going from Bag to Pokémon.
  22. - Pokérus doesn't catch too well if the infected Pokémon is/are on a
  23. lower level than the one(s) you're trying to infect.
  24. - Aside from the base values, stat growth is affected by three things:
  25. Nature, IVs and EP.
  26. × A Pokemon's Nature modifies two of the monster's stats, with one
  27. stat receiving a 10% bonus and another receiving a 10% penalty. HP is
  28. not affected by Nature. Synchronize makes it easy to get the Nature
  29. you want (it gives the wild Pokemon a 50% chance to have the same
  30. Nature as the Synchronizer).
  31. × IVs are random values ranging between 0-31. Each stat is assigned
  32. one of these values which is then gradually added to said stat.
  33. × EP (or EV) is gained from killing enemies. You gain a specific amount
  34. of EP to one or two stats (usually just one point for one stat) from a
  35. given enemy. The total max amount of EP a Pokemon can have is 510. The
  36. max value for an individual stat is 255. The stat bonus is EP/4 which
  37. translates to a bonus of at most 127 stat points (63 for an individual
  38. stat).
  39. × EP gain can be boosted with Pokerus (2x), Macho Brace (2x) and the
  40. Power accessories (+4).
  41. × Vitamins like Protein and Calcium increase EP by 10 (can't be
  42. boosted) up to a maximum of 100.
  43. × The berries from 21 to 26 lower a stat's EP.
  44. - When using Synchronize to alter the Nature of a wild monster, levels
  45. are no longer a factor. Also, the only Legendaries immune to it are the
  46. runners.
  47. - As usual, most of the TMs and hold items you obtain are Unique.
  48. - There are now 493 Pokemon. 5 of these are strictly event only, so the
  49. highest number you can obtain is 488.
  50. - Migrating Pokemon from a GBA game to DPP only works between games of
  51. the same regional version.
  52. - There are no Trade restrictions. You can easily trade Natdex monsters
  53. to a pre-Nat game. These Pokémon will not count towards your figures,
  54. and their Pokédex number will show as '???'
  55. - There is no way to transfer Pokemon from a later generation game to
  56. an earlier one.
  57. - If you need Master Balls, replaying FRLG is the best way to get them.
  58. - On very specific days, some routes will have altered weather effects
  59. (some merely cosmetic).

  102.
  103. Special: Running Shoes
  104.
  105. - You'll start a new game automatically when / if you boot up a copy
  106. with no save data.
  107. - You'll start off with 3000p and no items.
  108. - Go check on your rival in one of the houses, then head for the lake.
  109. Save your game before entering the area, so you can reroll your starter's
  110. Nature. The three starters are: Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup.
  111. - After your trip to Lake Verity, you'll receive the Running Shoes.
  112. They won't actually show up in your inventory, though. Anyway, you can
  113. finally run in all indoor areas.
  114.

  120.
  121. Special: Pokédex
  122.
  123. - Once you reach the lab, you'll be given the opportunity to name your
  124. starter. Oh, and Rowan also asks you to travel the world and train to
  125. become a Jedi Master. Either that, or complete the Pokédex. Can't quite
  126. remember.
  127. - Lucas will be blocking your path on Route 202 until you check back
  128. with your mom.
  129.
  130. Route 219 | Antidote
  131.
  132. -- Twinleaf --
  133.
  134. Items (nc): Journal, Parcel (Temp)
  135.
  136. - The Journal's really not that useful. It doesn't keep track of
  137. side-quests or anything. It still insists on popping up automatically
  138. when you load your game, and it's been more than 24 hours since you
  139. last played.
  140.

  150. Town Map Coupon 2 (Temp) Item (h):
  151. Quick Claw Coupon 3 (Temp) Paralyze Heal
  152.
  153. - Some guy will block your path to Route 203 until you've obtained the
  154. Town Map and Pokétch.
  155. - Once you have the Town Map, you can get the Pokétch from the Pokétch
  156. Company president once you have the three coupons from the three clowns.
  157. The four default applications (or apps, for short) are: Digital Clock,
  158. Calculator, Pedometer, Status. You can obtain more of these by talking
  159. to certain NPCs. There are about 20 apps in total, although most of
  160. them are useless. Do *NOT* pick up any apps you have no use for! Since
  161. you have to browse through the applications one by one, they'll simply
  162. get in your way as you're trying to find the one that you actually need.
  163. I'll be sure to tell you when you need to avoid someone who'd give you
  164. a shitty app when you talk to them.
  165. - You can't get into the TV station until you have your first badge.

  192.
  193. - In one of the buildings, you'll find a guy who will give you a Heal
  194. Ball if you show him a Zubat.
  195. - There's a guy / girl in the Pokécenter who can change your appearance
  196. to others in the Club Union Room.
  197. - The trainers within a gym won't fight you anymore after you've beaten
  198. the gym leader.

  207.
  208. Item (nc): Special:
  209. Fashion Case Pokétch App 03 (Memo)
  210.
  211. - Now that you have one badge, you can pick up a new app from the
  212. Pokétch Company president. It's nothing really useful, but you should
  213. probably grab it and get used to it, as the next one he gives you
  214. (with 3 badges) is actually very important (although not strictly
  215. necessary) for tracking down the two Runner Legendaries.
  216. - After getting the Fashion Case (which has 10 Accessories and 2 Backdrops
  217. by default), you can check out the Jubilife TV Station. On the first
  218. floor, you'll find the lottery and a trainer who changes depending on
  219. the day of the week. The lottery prizes are:
  220. 1 hit: Backdrop
  221. 2 hits: PP Up
  222. 3 hits: Exp. Share
  223. - The second floor has the, er... Fitting Room. Not sure what the point
  224. of that is. There's also a guy who'll give you a free Accessory (a mask
  225. of your starter).
  226. - On the third floor, you'll find a bunch of computers that display
  227. statistics such as: Pokemons killed / caught / hatched from eggs /
  228. caught with a rod.

  237. Items (nc): Berries:

  239. Sprayduck Cheri
  240.
  241. - There's a girl in the flower shop who will give you a random berry
  242. each day.
  243.
  244. -- Route 205-S --
  245.
  246. Berries: Chesto, Pecha
  247.
  248. - After hearing about the situation at the windworks from the little
  249. girl, head back to Floaroma.
  250.
  251. -- Valley Windworks --
  252.
  253. Item: Potion
  254.
  255. - Fight the grunt, then head back to Floaroma.
  256.
  257. -- Floaroma Meadow --
  258.
  259. Items (nc): Works Key, Honey
  260.
  261. - You can buy Honey for 100p here. Although you can technically use it
  262. anywhere, you're mainly supposed to smear it on those Honey Trees.
  263. Once you've done that, check back with them about 12 hours later,
  264. and you're likely to run into Pokemon that can't be found any other
  265. way (Combee, Burmy, Cherubi, Aipom, Heracross, Munchlax). If you're
  266. going for a Munchlax, you'll need a ton of Honey as well as patience.
  267. They are very rare.
  268.

  288. - You'll be fighting alongside Cheryl on your way through the forest.
  289. - There's a sign here that tells you about the hidden items, which is
  290. somewhat ironic, as there's only one hidden item in the forest, and
  291. you can't even get to it yet.
  292.

  311. Bosses: Special:
  312. Gardenia (Forest Badge \ #2) Pokétch App 06
  313. Commander Jupiter (Friendship Checker)
  314.
  315. - ATTENTION!! DO NOT TALK TO THE WOMAN IN THE POKECENTER! If you talk
  316. to this NPC, she'll automatically give you Poketch App 6, the Friendship
  317. Checker. It's not *completely* useless, but later in the game you won't
  318. really need it. At that point, if you need to evolve someone through
  319. happiness, just give them the Soother Bell and pop in a bunch of berries
  320. (between #21 - #26), and that's it.
  321. - You can change your Pokémons' names at the Name Rater.
  322. - In one of the houses, you'll find the Underground Man. Using the
  323. Explorer Kit he gives you, you'll be able to explore the underground
  324. caves that span across the entire Sinnoh region. There are six regions
  325. in all, four of which you'll be able to access during the "main game."
  326. Using the kit in Eterna will get you in the biggest of these expanses
  327. (probably the one you'll be spending the most time in).
  328. - Anyway, the Underground is the first mini-game you'll have access to
  329. (and a fairly engaging one). You'll be using the touch screen extensively,
  330. as you search for and dig up items within the caves. You'll see their
  331. rough location on the upper screen, and once you're closer, it's time to
  332. use the sonar thing (by touching the lower screen) to find their exact
  333. locations in the walls. Examine these spots to start the digging process
  334. where your goal is to hack through the varying layers of stone using the
  335. pickaxe and the hammer and find the items before the wall collapses from
  336. the force generated by your tools (no time limit).
  337. - Most of the stuff you'll find will be these Spheres you can use for
  338. a couple of things (but only Underground):
  339. × When you bury them in the ground, more digging spots will appear in
  340. their vicinity as time passes. Fairly important if you want the good
  341. stuff. There seems to be a limit to how many you can bury, though, and
  342. once you hit that limit, the oldest spheres will start disappearing.
  343. The Spheres also grow in size when buried, but I don't think their
  344. size (or type) affects the treasure.
  345. × You can also trade them with the hikers found Underground for traps
  346. and pieces of furniture and decoration to be used in your Secret Base.
  347. - The other stuff you can find takes priority, though, as it's something
  348. that's actually useful for your adventure above ground. We're talking
  349. about stuff like Heart Scales, Revives, Evolution stones, Fossils and
  350. Plates. Some of the items are more common depending on your version.
  351. × The Plates seem to be one-time only. I thought the Odd Keystone
  352. might be as well, but then I dug up 3 of them over the course a single
  353. day, so, yeah... (although it did happen over 500 hours after I got
  354. the first one)
  355. - Then there's the Secret Base you can create using the Digger Drill
  356. (obtained from the Underground Man once you've tried out the basics).
  357. Once you have one, you can play Capture the Flag (this is where you're
  358. supposed to make use of those traps). Or at least *try* to play. The
  359. whole thing already lags enough when you're alone. When you actually
  360. have someone else there, things just get a little too unresponsive. I
  361. played it with one of my other save files just enough to get 10 flags,
  362. so you can use the radar thing on your PC and get rid of most of the
  363. boulders (not going for 50, though. I like my blue Trainer Card the way
  364. it is).
  365. - So, to wrap things up: Forget about the spheres and go for the items
  366. (besides, if you keep getting those spheres, you'll quickly find that
  367. you can't carry any more of them). I myself let the wall collapse on
  368. purpose once I've gotten all the real items and I've identified all
  369. the remaining items to be spheres. Don't forget to actually move the
  370. items to your bag (they give you a separate inventory Underground).
  371. - The music gets pretty annoying after a while, so better turn it off.
  372. - Note that you'll find a few traps already lying around near treasure
  373. spots, so keep an eye out for them (some of them can be a little difficult
  374. to break free from as you're supposed to blow into your DS or something).
  375. - Sometimes the digging spot will respawn immediately after the digging
  376. ends, so you should make a habit of hitting A as soon as you're in control
  377. again.
  378. - You can resurrect your fossils at the Oreburgh Mining Museum, although
  379. there's only one you can get during the main game: Armor Fossil (Bastiodon)
  380. in Pearl and Skull Fossil (Cranidos) in Diamond.
  381.
  382. [Boss]
  383. - Cherubi Lv19, Turtwig Lv19, Roserade Lv22
  384.
  385. - Well, you can use Cut now, but let's take care of things here in Eterna
  386. before we start backtracking. Head for the Team Galactic Eterna Building.
  387.

  398.
  399. - The professor's assistant will cough up the Exp Share if you've seen
  400. at least 35 different kinds of monsters.
  401. - You'll find two entrances to the Wayward Cave here (one of which is
  402. hidden). They lead to two different areas of the cave that aren't
  403. connected. You can't explore the other one yet, but I'll be covering
  404. the first one after the Cut clean-up.

  412.
  413. - You'll run into Lucas here, who's kind enough to give you the Vs Seeker
  414. and Item Finder (aka Dowsing Machine), both very important.
  415. × The Vs Seeker is used to re-challenge trainers you've already fought
  416. before (can only be used in regular outdoor areas). Works about 50% of
  417. the time and needs 100 steps to recharge after use. A great source for
  418. xp and money if you know who to target. Most trainers you shouldn't
  419. really bother with (unless it's a route you've recently gained access
  420. to), but some people will actually level up their Pokémon as you progress
  421. in the game. I wonder if you could find a list of these trainers somewhere...
  422. × The Item Finder isn't the same as it used to be, but it gets the job
  423. done. Chances are you'll be using this one a lot. Just keep in mind,
  424. there are no hidden items inside buildings (with no encounters) *or*

  517. - The little broken tower (near the honey tree) is where you can
  518. encounter Spiritomb, and this is the only way you can find (and catch)
  519. one. There are two requirements you need to satisfy:
  520. × Meet 32 people Underground. You'll see how many people (as in,
  521. other players) you've "met" in the status screen, and you need to
  522. get this number to at least 32. Fairly easy, as you can get it up by

  1208.
  1209. Special: Item (nc):
  1210. National Pokédex Poké Radar
  1211.
1212. - Return to Rowan's lab to get the National Dex (assuming you've at
1213. least seen all 150 monsters) along with the Poké Radar. You'll also
1214. meet some guy named Professor Oak (never fu**ing heard).
1215. - Either way, now that you have the Natdex, the post-game has become
1216. available (without the upgrade, all you can do is the Battle Tower, but
1217. that's it). Also, any Natdex exclusive monsters you may have received
1218. during the main game by trading will now count towards your log.
1219. - The first point of interest is right here in Sandgem. Go talk to
1220. Lucas's little sister to learn about Pokémon Swarms. This thing is
1221. really quite simple. Each day, some Pokémon will be swarming in a
1222. specific area. She'll tell you what it is and where, so all you need
1223. to do is fly there and catch one (the encounter rate is quite high).
1224. You don't actually have to talk to Lucas's sister to trigger the swarm,
1225. so you may sometimes run into one by coincidence. The 28 monsters on
1226. the swarm list are as follows (and none of these can be encountered any
  1227. other way):
1228. Pidgey, Magnemite, Farfetch'd, Doduo, Drowzee, Krabby, Voltorb, Cubone,
1229. Lickitung, Natu, Dunsparce, Snubbull, Swinub, Corsola, Delibird, Phanpy,
1230. Smoochum, Zigzagoon, Surskit, Slakoth, Makuhita, Nosepass, Skitty,
1231. Electrike, Spoink, Spinda, Absol, Beldum.
  1232.
1233. × Beldum has the catch rate of a Legendary, so if you want a good one,
1234. you'll want to use a Master Ball.
  1235.
  1236.
1237. - The Poke Radar allows you to encounter new Pokemon as well (about 30).
1238. You should pass up on the ones in brackets either because they're
1239. evolved forms or because the encounter rate is too low.
1240. - If you have Plat, you can transfer a Houndour from there. If you
1241. don't, you'll just have to breed Houndoom.

  1300. ¤~~~~~~¤ Pal Park ¤~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~¤
  1301.
1302. Special: Pokétch App 20 (Top 3 Chains)
  1303.
1304. - This one's on Route 221, in case you forgot. Inside, you'll run
1305. into Oak again who insists on giving you Pokétch App 20. No idea what
1306. it's for. Either way, this is where you "claim" all the Pokémon that
1307. you migrate from the GBA games. The process is quite simple (of course
1308. first you need to play the GBA installments in order to actually have
  1309. something to transfer).
1310. - BE WARNED: In order for migrating to be possible, the GBA games have
1311. to be from the *exact* same region as the DS cart! Eg. you *cannot*
1312. import Pokémon from a North American copy of Sapphire to a European
1313. Pearl. (Unfortunately, the NA versions are all over the place here,
1314. since people couldn't be bothered to wait for the European release)
1315. - Right, let's say you've played through Leaf Green, and you've got
1316. Bulbasaur and some Legendary birds and whatnot ready to be transferred
1317. (unless you're prepared to do some breeding, you'll have to play
1318. through the game without the starter. Not a big deal. Alternatively,
1319. you can transfer the starter early on and then simply start a new game).
1320. Start up the DS game with Leaf Green in the GBA slot, and you'll no
1321. doubt notice a new option in the main menu called 'Migrate from LeafGreen.'
1322. Select that and you can (most likely) proceed to choose the 6 monsters
1323. you wish to transfer. Once you're finished, you can just load up your
1324. save, and pick them up at the Pal Park.
1325. - They won't just hand them over to you, though. This is the part where
1326. you'll have to do the 'Catching Show.' This is just a formality, though.
1327. In this mini-game, I suppose you could call it, you'll be supplied with
1328. 6 "Park Balls" that you're supposed to use to re-capture the monsters.
1329. These balls never fail to make the catch, so all you need to do is run
1330. around and find the monsters. The Park Ball will *not* replace the type
1331. of ball the Pokémon was originally sealed in, although the date of
1332. encounter *will* be replaced with the date of transfer. You'll also be
1333. scored based on your performance and whatever, and you'll obtain some
1334. fairly insignificant item (the default record holder is your rival with
  1335. 2000 points).
1336. - Keep in mind, once you've migrated a batch, that specific GBA game
1337. will be "locked" for 24 hours (starting from when you complete the
1338. process in the main menu) before you can import again. Also, you can't
1339. transfer anything if you still haven't claimed the previous batch.
1340. - Migrating is definitely a good way to increase your Pokédex figures,
1341. although in many cases, you can still find the Pokémon one way or another
1342. in Pearl / Diamond. Here's a list of Pokémon that you *will* have to
1343. import (including ones that have very low encounter rates in DP and
1344. ones that would otherwise require breeding):
  1345.
  1346. FRLG (13)
  1347. Nidoran F (P) / Nidoran M (D), Mankey, Venonat, Koffing,
1348. Seel (P) / Slowpoke (D), Tangela, Spinarak, Ledyba, Tauros,
1349. Larvitar (P), Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Mewtwo
  1350.
  1351. RSE (19)
  1352. Poochyena, Silcoon (P) / Cascoon (D), Taillow, Whismur,
  1353. Aron (P) / Bagon (D), Trapinch, Wynaut, Tropius,
1354. Kecleon (P) / Spheal (D), Shuppet, Duskull, Regice, Regirock, Registeel,
1355. Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Latios, Latias
  1356.
1357. - There's a girl here who wants to see a Snorlax and a Kecleon.

1392. Examine the TV in one of the rooms late at night (between 10 PM and

1394. works great here (sometimes it might kill it, though). After that,
1395. it'll likely take only one Dusk Ball. The remaining Legendaries will
1396. be much harder to catch, I can assure you. Either way, if you want good
1397. IVs, these are the stats you're looking for (Modest is the obvious

1406. these with a specific Nature, you should probably resort to importing
1407. (doesn't help with Exeggcute and Kangaskhan, though).
  1408.
  1409.
  1410. -- Trophy Garden --
  1411.
1412. - Go talk to Mr. Backlot to hear about some new Pokémons that he's
1413. seen in his garden. He'll mention one in specific, and at that point
1414. you can encounter it in the Trophy Garden. Each day he'll mention
1415. another one. There are 16 different Pokémon you can trigger this
1416. way. Two of these will appear at the same time, and they will *not*
1417. be replaced until you talk to Backlot again. The list is:
1418. Cleffa, Clefairy, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Meowth, Happiny, Chansey,
1419. Eevee, Porygon, Azurill, Marill, Plusle, Minun, Castform, Bonsly, Mime Jr.
1420. - Of these, you'll want to get the following eight:
1421. Meowth, Eevee, Porygon, Igglybuff, Plusle, Minun, Castform,
  1422. Bonsly (D) / Mime Jr. (P)
  1423.

  1503.
1504. - You're probably familiar with the Battle Tower from previous installments,
1505. but in case you're not, the enemies are at the level of your highest level
1506. Pokemon, Legendaries are banned, you don't gain Exp, and you can't use
1507. healing items for some reason. That's... great. That's just f**king great.
1508. - If you're doing EP training, you'll need to grind enough BP for the
1509. Power accessories listed above. This is going to take quite a while,
1510. as you only get 3 BP for a streak of 7 trainers, and a single streak
1511. can easily take 15 minutes. And, of course, you might not even survive.
1512. I die about half the time myself.

  1609.
1610. - You won't actually encounter Heatran on your first visit, so you can
1611. just go in with your regular party.
1612. - Watch out for Exploding Gravelers and Weezings.
1613. - You'll team up with Buck on your search for the Magma Stone.
1614. - Once Buck has the Magma Stone, go talk to him at the Survival Area.
1615. At that point, you can find Heatran idling around in the Magma Stone
1616. chamber. Don't forget the usual Legendary preparations: Dusk Balls,
  1617. Synchronizer, max 5 party.
  1618.
  1619. [Boss]
1620. - Heatran has Lava Plume, Iron Head, Fire Spin and Scary Face by default
1621. (55 PP in total). That means you probably won't be able to switch
1622. monsters, you'll spend some turns healing Burn, and you won't be able
1623. to use Hypnosis before it gets to act. Hopefully your Hypnotist isn't
1624. weak to Fire. You might actually want to go with Paralysis instead here.
1625. - Note that Heatran can be either male or female (makes no difference
  1626. really).
1627. - I'm not planning on using Heatran myself, so I didn't actually put
1628. that much effort into this one, but if you're looking for a good stat
1629. roll, here's what to aim for:
  1630. 220 HP, 148 Atk, 175 Def, 225 SAT, 157 SDF, 132 Spd (Rash)
  1631.
  1632.

1638. - You'll need the 3 Regis (Regice, Regirock, Registeel) in order to
1639. trigger the encounter with Regigigas.
  1640.
  1641. [Boss: Regigigas Lv70]
1642. - Superpower, Confuse Ray, Stomp, Zen Headbutt (50 PP in total)
1643. - Because of his Slow Start Ability, I wouldn't recommend adding this
  1644. guy to your team.
  1645.
  1646.
  1647. ¤~~~~~~¤ Turnback Cave ¤~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~¤
  1648.
  1649. Item: Boss:
1650. Stardust / Rare Bone / Reaper Cloth Giratina Lv70
  1651.
  1652. - You'll need Defog here.
1653. - Can't really help you here. Just keep wandering around and eventually
  1654. you may reach Giratina.
  1655. - Ideal stats (neutral):
  1656. 310 HP, 166 Atk, 194 Def, 166 SAT, 194 SDF, 152 Spd
  1657.
1658. - When holding a Griseous Orb (found in Plat), Giratina changes to a
1659. form with flipped base attack and defense values. This also changes his
1660. ability from Pressure to Levitate.
  1661.
