- Dear Mr. Gilbert,
- Thank you for your response. I am most definitely interested in the position you have sent me. To answer your questions:
- 1. I would be interested interested in working full time next semester.
- 2. I would be able to travel to and from Dunwoody.
- 3. I have not taken ME 2110 yet.
- 4. For classes relevant to my major, I have taken Linear Algebra and Multibariable Calculus. Currently I am taking Statics, Engineering Materials, Differential Equations, and ME 1770 which is an intro to Engineering Design and Graphics.
- 5. Working at East-West manufacturing seems ideal to me because of how closely my goals align with the company's own goals and purpose. I want to solve problems that we face in our day to day of lives by applying my engineering skill set, which I what I believe East-West does. East-West also seems to be a very collaborative, team-based work environment. I thrive in such environments as I am able to learn a lot of useful skills from my peers while also remaining highly productive.
- 6. I am currently in the process of transferring over my skills from using Autodesk Inventor to Solidworks, but I have a many years of experience using 3D CAD. I have used it to make assemblies, parts, animations, and for finite element analysis as well for classes and clubs like GT Solar Racing. I also have a decent exposure to 2D CAD. I have used AutoCAD 2D for a few years to create floor plans, 2D pieces to lasercut, and various other uses like tracing and engraving. I do not have much experience with Solidworks 2D, but would be willing to learn more about it.
- 7. For machining, I know how to use some saws, drill presses, and am currently being trained to use equipment like a water jet and sheet metal bender. I have used a CNC before, but only briefly. For prototyping, I am quite used to using 3D printers and laser cutters to create test pieces for fit, size, and function.
- 8. I am interested in engineering because, to me, it is the one field where I can seamlessy incorporate problem solving with design. As a child, I always imagined creating some sort of invention to help deal with any kind of problem that would arise. As I grew up, I learn there was a lot more to engineering, such as trial and error, analysis, and even research. I soon grew fond of these as well. To summarize, engineering is the one field where I can apply myself in a way I find meaningful, while also learning something new daily.
- 9. The thing I am most proud of accomplishing during my time under Dr. Singh was the fact that I learnt so much and got feasible results after a short amount of time with him. I was able to learn a lot about Material Science from scratch, become trained in various instruments and techniques, and acquire data that actually showed a trend. Overall, it showed me that all my tiny efforts amounted into one significant accomplishment.
- Thank you for your time and consideration
