  1. Delorah is tall and slender girl who almost passes for human with mismatched eyes of icy blue and seawater green. Those with the right knowledge recognise her as a changeling, a being that results from a hag taking a mortal lover through magic and trickery. She stands proud with an elegant graceful posture but with a fixed smile on her face as she eagerly observes everything around her with what might be mild amusement. She wears rich looking clothes adorned with frills and trimmed with orange trimmings that seem to remain spotless no matter what's going on around her. She speaks with a Fiiri accent emphasising it's characteristic brightness and rarely sounds anything less than cheerful sometimes giving an impression she's not completely aware of the gravity of what's going on around her. She sometimes speaks extra fast in the Fiiri dialect when made to admit something she'd rather not.

  3. She claims to be a scion of the noble house of Fairnr, which would make her non-other than the daughter of Darfuad. She throws this titbit out when she feels entitled to more respect or pampering than she's getting. Yet she's out here alone with no entourage or anyone else for back up. She says she's taking a chance to use a rebellious teenage phase to see the world and someone of her upbringing can handle themselves.
  4.
  5. And yet the world she does see is highly selective; she assumes most people are nice and happy with their lot in life and that nothing really bad happens. She shows concern for the theoretical possibility of suffering but refuses to believe it happens, bringing out the storybook concepts of happy endings if she has to. She certainly doesn't have anything bad to say about her family. What she wants is just to have fun and be happy and for everyone else to have fun too.

  8.
  9. There are a lot of lies in her story. First of all she was adopted and not noble by birth, putting her on the same level of a bastard at best. It also means she's nowhere near as used to being spoilt and pampered as she acts. How she acts is based on what she's learned from living in close proximity to the privileged rich and wish fulfilment rather than how she actually expects to be treated.
  10.
  11. This also means her running away and presenting herself as a noble is a far more serious matter. She is running a con that relies on people's ignorance of the private lives of her adopted family.
  12.
  13. She's also not actually blind to the bad things that happen in the world but in this case she's trying to fool herself as well as everyone else. She saw how her family treated their slaves even though she was encouraged to turn a blind eye to it. She just doesn't want to think about it at all believing blissful ignorance (or mind effecting magic and drugs) is a valid way to be happy. Being in denial about suffering means when confronted with incontrovertible evidence of it will cause her to react unpredictably including covering it up or pushing her denial into delusion. The thing is, as unfairly as she thinks she's been treated if it weren't for her mother she probably be doing a lot worse.
  14.
  15. She genuinely wants other people to be happy but she is an escapist at heart goes for temporary ephemeral solutions that don't touch the core problems. Worse, she has a disregard for the sanctity of free will and will happily use mind effecting spells and illusions to force people to have fun. She believes free will to be the ultimate illusion and that people are in the end slaves to their emotions. But if she can be made to see that mind control is not the way to happiness she would be very committed to saving the world and putting an end to the wrongs her family does.

  18.
  19. An impeccably dressed girl drifted through the streets of Enalmar looking about her with the wonder of someone who has never been to the captial before, and in addition didn't have some pressing business there that would force them on the run. No, Delorah had all the time to explore the city with a faint smile plastered on her face. She had the time to flit between the stores and stands of the marketplace and inspect the wonderful things for sale.
  20.
  21. At one place she was allowed to try on beautiful necklace since she happened to slip she was from a rich and powerful family, so of course she could be trusted to be able to pay for it and not just walk off with it. Well, technically she couldn't pay for it right then. For a moment she felt bad for the shop assistant, a girl who looked dejected and down. The assistant glanced away from Delorah shyly upon learning that no sale was to be made and she rubbed a nasty looking bruise on her arm. So, what Delorah figured was that since she was new in town and this other girl obviously needed a friend there was a perfect match here in the making. Delorah pulled up a frilled sleeve to reveal an arm marked with tatooes of strange designs and she incanted strange words and the tatooes glowed beneath her fingers.
  22.
  23. The assistant's father came running back from doing whatever it was he was doing, angrily demanding what was going on. Delorah turned to him with a pleasant smile sure that his anger was just a misunderstand. “Oh you must be my friend's father! I'm just helping fix her up see?" The assistant, overcome with strange new feelings of friendship, eagerly nodded in agreement. Delorah waved her hands about and spoke more arcane words and soon the grime was wiped from the assistant's clothes and she was sporting a bright green hairdo. "Now isn't that much more stylish?" The assistant pulled a lock of her green hair in front of her eyes and then nodded weakly, unwilling to hurt her new friend's feelings.
  24.
  25. Delorah took her by the hand "Now let's go have some fun around town!" The assistant was dragged off to go have an exciting night around the town, with just a backward glance full of worry at her father, probably worried about him being bored without her. In return the father quietly shook his fist in support of a rocking time.
