DON’T. DROP. THE COMBO. Edition

Hey guys, how’s it goin?

For the first time in what feels like ever with Nintendo Puzzle Collection, I think I finally understood last week how I should be playing the game. One of the more consistent issues I was experiencing with Easy mode was that I was getting my garbage cleared too easily, which always wastes time. I guess getting garbage piled on the CPU earlier causes them to react to it quicker. I was trying to stack garbage as fast as I can, but there were plenty of times where I didn’t feel like I could have possibly sent enough garbage fast enough because the CPU made a match on my garbage almost immediately. Some of the reason this happens is because when you make a combo (more than 3 at once) that is not part of an active chain, its garbage will not wait for you to finish chaining before dropping on your opponent. Pokemon Puzzle League does not behave that way so it goes against years of instincts for me.

Last week, I finally stopped being stubborn and tried making chains that did not start with a combo. The idea was to start with a set of three and lead that into a 4 or 5 combo that is part of the chain. The goal was to keep garbage from landing on my opponent until I can top them off. This is why I told myself ‘DON’T. DROP. THE COMBO.’ like I had always done before.

I can happily report that this tactic led to progress… of 0.3 seconds. There’s still more to do…
