A young boy, age 14, in the year 2020 is reading about unexplained phenomena on the internet. He stumbles upon an article about a building in the 1800s that was completely destroyed by something that has never been identified. However, one small perfect circle of wood in the center of the building's foundation remained perfectly intact, completely untouched. This strange little happening compels the boy to take an interest in science. He is determined to find out what destroyed that building, yet leave a perfect circle still intact.

Years later, in the year 2050, the boy has grown into an accomplished scientist. He hasn't yet discovered what caused that particular destruction, but he knows he's close. One night, he is driving down the road when suddenly, he sees a man run in front of his car. He tries to stop...but it's too late. He slams into the man, driving over his body and crushing it beyond recognition. He gets out and looks at the disfigured man when he notices something peculiar:This man is wearing clothing that seem to be from the 1800s. He finds that a bit strange but doesn't think much of it. What he then notices, however, is a fire coming from a nearby forest. Out of sheer curiosity (and a bit of stupidity), he runs toward the fire to see what might've caused it. This man seems obsessed with discovering the genesis of everything, does he not? It is at that moment, however, when he sees a lonely little perfect circle of grass lying in the center of the fire. In his mind, he pieces things together. The man wearing 1800s-era clothing. The forest fire with the lonely perfect circle of grass. The building in the 1800s completely destroyed, save for a perfect circle of wood.

There was no doubt in his mind. It sounded insane to him, but he could not deny it: The man had travelled through time from the 1800s to 2050. He must have used some type of device to do it, but that same device must have caused the explosions that destroyed not only a building 200 years earlier, but a forest only minutes ago. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he sees something on that patch of grass. He can't tell what it is, even when he holds it in his hand. He takes it back to the lab, forgetting about everything else in his life. All of his focus is now dedicated on finding out what this mystery object is.

After several months of painstaking research, he discovers that this object is the very same device that the time-traveller used to come to the future. He looks upon the device and, after tinkering with it for a few moments, sees a panel with four numbers on it. Those numbers are 2-0-5-0. This must be the year that it takes the user to! He tries to select a new year...when will he go when there's thousands upon thousands of places to travel to? He finally decides to go back to the 1800s, to find this man who created the time travelling device and inquire him about its design. Maybe he could improve it. Make it stronger!

He travels, randomly, to the year 1800. Almost immediately, he notices one side-effect of the device: His clothes didn't come with him. He finds a new outfit to wear and begins searching for the time-traveller. Days go by. Then weeks. Months. Almost a full year. He doesn't know where the man even came from so how could he find him in his lifetime if there's the whole world to look through? And what if the man is already gone? He quickly loses hope of ever finding him. Disappointed, he presses 2-0-5-0 on the device and goes home.

When he arrives, however, he quickly notices that he didn't exactly land where he'd hoped. He was in the middle of a forest that he had just set ablaze after burning through time. He panics and tries to get away from the fire, not noticing that he has wandered into the middle of a road. He hears something approaching. Fast. He turns to his left and sees a bright light. But behind that bright light is something peculiar: A face. A familiar face.
