- "What's your secret, man?" Ian idly plucked at his ukulele as he lolloped beside Eddie down the sidewalk.
- "Secret? To what?"
- "Girls are crazy into you."
- "What? You mean the girls Renee says asked about me? I'm sure it's not all that." He watched Ian as he turned and began walking backwards whilst playing his ukulele.
- "I'll tell you what is, you're like the big shot baseball star," It was at this point Eddie realised Ian was singing, "But you're still cool and approachable, even with your wicked scar."
- "Dude, if you're coming out, points for creativity."
- Ian kept singing undeterred, "So it's like chicks want to get with you, and you're not all out of reach, and think with me the issue is that... fuck, I really thought I had a rhyme there." He struck a discord huffily.
- "You could talk about your feelings without singing. You know, like normal people."
- "My problem is I don't have the humanizing element. See with you, you're a hot scarred baseballin' stud, but you're also famously charitable to nerdlingers and kind and shit. You even stood up for Patrick that one time."
- "Dave was out of line." Eddie shrugged.
- "Unshakable moral code. Defender of the innocent. But with me, I have all the attractive parts but none of the approachability. I'm unattainable. Out of reach. Socially intimidating."
- "Attractive parts?"
- "Sweet hair, rockin' bod, kickass ukukelelein' skills." He turned on his heels and returned to walking forwards.
- "Whatever you say, bro. Where are we going, by the way?"
- "My thinking spot."
- "You have a thinking spot?"
- "Shyeah. I told you about it forever ago. You've been there."
- "Oh. Yeah." Eddie followed him over an old picket fence with practiced, catlike grace, in contrast to Ian's sparrowy hop. Their feet crunched grass turning yellow in the sun as they walked into the woods, "Hey, you haven't actually told me who you have lined up for our dates to the dance."
- "The hottest girls in school. Duh. We deserve no less." He complemented the sentence with a pair of chords.
- "Yeah, you've said as much, but who specifically. I mean, hottest is subjective. If you asked half the locker room, they'd tell you May was the hottest girl in school. If you asked Oliver, he'd say Tess. A lot of people would give the edge to Kat."
- "Finn's girlfriend?"
- "Yeah."
- "Ew. Those two are mondo gross."
- "You're dancing around the question like the ballerina your soul is crying out to be."
- "Amy and Ara, duh."
- "Interesting. Who gets who?"
- "I get Ara, you get Amy."
- "Works for me, I guess." Eddie looked up at the tall tree, surrounded by a spiraling staircase of unsteady wood, topped with a wooden platform.
- "Danananana! The Tower of Awesome."
