Fluffy picked his way around the other fluffies lining the den. They had just finished nomming their nummings and soon it would be sleepy time. Settling next to his special friend, Fluffy waited for his Daddy's Daddy to speak.

Daddy's Daddy was old, but told the bestest stories, even if Fluffy didn't always understand them. The stories were sometimes scary, but Fluffy always enjoyed hearing them. They were so different than today times, but somehow the same.

Daddy's Daddy coughed a little and drew the babbling of the herd to an end. "Dis a stowy of da befowe time," he began, "In da befowe time fwuffies wived in the big pwace unda da bwight sky baww. Big pwace had many nummies aw awound. An when sky ball in da sky aw pwaces fewt warm wike mammeh fwuff. When sky baww not in da sky da hewd wood go to nesties unda da biggest hiww in big pwace for sweepy time. Da hewd was in da bestest times."

"In da bestest times hewd pway aww day an neva need get nummies fwom scawy pwaces. Monstas no hewt aw da fwuffies. Fwuffies couwd wun way fwom monstas. Fwuffies see wew monsta awe. Wat monsta awmost neva huwt babbehs or soon mammhs." Fwuffies special friend looked scared. Special friend was a soon mama and feared the rat monsters would find her and steal their babies like so many others. Why couldn't they have lived in the bestest times?

The old fluffy continued with his story, "Den one bwite time biggest monstas came to hewds safe pwace. They no seem wike monstas at fiwst. Some gave nummies to fwuffies and wewe nice to fwuffies. Monstas pwayed on biggest hiww den weft. Monsta come back next bwight time and pway again. Dey weave fwuffies awone and no one see dat dey monstas."

The old fluffy's voice fell, "Den the sad time came. As sky baw feww fwuffies went back to their safe pwace. Befowe they get back da monstas apeawed with sowwy sticks! Da biggiest monstas made sowwy sticks scweam, an evewy time sowwy stick get owies it gif fwuffies owies! Fwuffies wewe aww so scawed dey wan to safe pwace an hide. Next bwight time fwuffies found many fwuffies have foweva sweepies."

"So much heawt huwties. Wat monstas stawt to come an nom aww da speepy fwuffy fwiends. No mowe safe to pway away fwom safe pwace. So fwuffies stay at safe pwace. Dat when Fwuffy see what biggest monstas do on da hiww."

"Fwuffy no wan to be foweva in safe pwace so go see how monstas pway. Fwuffy cwimb biggest hiww fine monstas in fwuffy's bestest safe pwace. Bestest safepwace was soo pwetty. Onwy da Smawty couwd go in but Fwuffy saw den what in bestest safe pwace. Pwetty shinies an pwitty cowews and softest nest fluff. Fwuffy wanted to be smawty just see da pwetties."

"Fwuffy saw biggest monstas take shiny things fwom safe pwace. Monstas take an take, Fwuffy think they take evewything. Fwuffy went to teww the hewd but da sky baw was gone an Fwuffy was scawed. Fwuffy hid. Dawk time came an da monsta no weave. Monsta take sowwy sticks and gif dem huwties. Fwuffy heaw hewd get huwties too. Fwuffy wanted to gif hewd huggies but Fwuffy too scawd to wun."

"Den wowstest time happen. Biggest monsta go into safe pwace and yeww. All the otha biggest monstas go in too. Fwuffy decide couwd go home an stawted wunning down da hiww to hewd. Then Fwuffy heaw sound fwom hiww. Quiet sound like tummy noises. Den noise got bigga and bigga. Hiww stawted to wun wif Fwuffy. Hiww wun fasta den fwuffy an awoned Fwuffy an den ova fwuffy making biggest noises Fwuffy eva heaw."

Fluffy could smell the salty tears of Daddy's Daddy as he finished the story, "When Fluffy wake up, Fwuffy couwd no fine hewd. Fwuffy inside da hiww. Hiww nommed Fwuffy fwiends aww gone an Fwuffy aw awone, and Fwuffy no see."

"But Fwuffy cwawl, an fine nummies, an wong time watew fin othew fwuffies. Fwuffe fine special fwiend and get new hewd. Fwuffy miss bwite big pwace but wuv aw Fwuffy's babbehs an huggies an Fwuffy is hawpy. So hawpy." The old fluffy's voice trailed off as he went spleepies for the night.

Fluffy had heard the story many time and it made him happy that the old fluffy loved him so Fluffy loved the story. A few of the fluffies that were still awake made a fluff file around the old fluffy to keep him warm. Fluffy would have too but his special friend needed him there. As he snuggled in he did wonder what it was like to live in the warm place; and what was the sky ball; and what was 'see?' And in the darkness the fluffies slept.

Landfill Disaster Ruled Accidental
Yesterday, after a long civil suit, the court ruled in favor of the Rocky Mt. Landfill Co.. Former employees filed the suit after the collapse of a large mountain of refuse killed one man and left three injured. The suit claimed the company did not provide adequate safety measures for workers assisting police officials in a search of the landfill.

Investigation of the collapse showed signs of fluffy infestation that caused the pile to become unstable. The Rocky Mt. Landfill Co. had warned its employees about the potential risk of fluffy infestation earlier that day.

In a statement by one of the survivors they had went to the landfill that night to participate in a 'fluffy hunt.' A 'fluffy hunt' is a regular activity of landfill workers where they compete in shooting as many fluffies as possible in a one-minute time span.

The Judges statement explains his decision. "Though a regrettable tragedy, these men went into the landfill after hours and without notification. No company can safeguard employees that deliberately bypass the safety measures in place."
