  1. [20:22] The nature magi, normally bright-eyed and busy tailed, stops several feet away from the gathering. She glances over the familiar faces. Particularly Marzius and Walter.
  2.
  3. Her stare falls on the latter. And she frowns.
  4. (Leni)
  5. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  6.
  7. [20:22] Kalina nudges Ro with her elbow.
  8. (Kalina Octavius)
  9. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10.
  11. [20:23] Ro whispers something.
  12. [20:23] Ro says, "..."
  13. [20:23] Ro whispers something.
  14. [20:23] Walter vacantly stares at the chlorophyllomancer in nothing but unengaging quietude.
  15. (Walter Docro)
  16. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17.
  18. [20:23] Marzius is MUCH less quiet than Walter. He simply waves! "Hey Leni!" A wide smile present on his face from side to side- Pupils dilated, it's quite obvious how the jester's like.
  19.
  20. sniff
  21.
  22. "Why're you sad?"
  23. (Marzius Volgin)
  24. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25.
  26. [20:24] Kalina scratches her head, frowning.
  27. (Kalina Octavius)
  28. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  29.
  30. [20:26] Leni is very. Very. Very quiet. At least by her standards. She practically deathly silent. Only after a few moments of silence passes and she pipes up. Her voice warbles.
  31.
  32. "...Why'd you lie to me?"
  33.
  34. She's staring at Walter, but a flick of her eyes towards Marzius indicates he's included in the question.
  35. (Leni)
  36. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  37.
  38. [20:29] Kalina reaches out to give Elred a hug of all things. At a time like this, she wasn't sure what else to do. Her heart ached for the Teraphim man.
  39. (Kalina Octavius)
  40. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  41.
  42. [20:29] Lie? Oh- Oh. She didn't-- Oh, god. He stares at her, and his mouth goes agape; He'd be motionless, if not for that sniffle that brings one hand up to his nose.
  43.
  44. sniff
  45.
  46. Dilated pupils stare to the side, towards Walter proper. "I think she didn't unders-- sniff -- Understand."
  47.
  48. sniff
  49.
  50. "I didn't want to involve you on that, Leni."
  51.
  52. sniff
  53.
  54. "We're pretty terrible people. I'm-- I'm..."
  55.
  56. sniff. He clears his throat, and a few heavy breathes come out of his lungs, before he lets out a huff.
  57.
  58. "S o r r y?"
  59. (Marzius Volgin)
  60. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  61.
  62. [20:31] His voice was shaking briefly, likely due to a mix of his recent emotional high and his own drug-addled brain. If he was being ironic or jesting once again? His tone didn't show that much.
  63.
  64. Life was a drama recently, after all.
  65. (Marzius Volgin)
  66. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  67.
  68. [20:33] In spite of the inordinate weight of embarrassment, Walter does not correct the direction of his gaze in the slightest. Instead, the pea-hued, unnaturally dilated searchlights are narrowed further. An indifferent sigh reverberates against the top part of his vestibular folds, creating a guttural buzz that accompanies the exhale.
  69.
  70. There's an impossibly frivolous halo that looms around him. It's not only in his body language, but the shabbiness of his equipment, the soot and maroon laid staining his blade. His own set of chained battle wounds stacking.
  71.
  72. "You'll have to be more specific." The kitsune phonates. The monotone timbre is the same as ever, yet the implications surrounding his speech masked any naivety under a thick layer of broodiness.
  73. (Walter Docro)
  74. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  75.
  76. [20:35] Leni's given pause. She glances over the dinged up Kitsune, over Marzius and his shaking.
  77.
  78. But she plugs onward.
  79.
  80. "Phere said he wasn't your 'guest'...You guys were ransoming him. Right?"
  81.
  82. Maybe Phere was joking with her or, like she said, this was all some silly misunderstanding. Marizus' words are not inspiring a whole lot of confidence. Neither did Walter's reply; but that's always how he was, hidden well behind that mask. Inscrutable.
  83. (Leni)
  84. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  85.
  86. [20:37] Elred Yindove whispers something.
  87. [20:39] The interval between replies is faster this much shorter the second time around. Walter seems to bare no grudge or snark, in fact - he seems almost unapologetically polite. Both hands still idly fall to the sides of his figure, concealed behind the ragged cape at first, but eventually exposing themselves with an aloof swing.
  88.
  89. "Correct. That's exactly what happened." The dog man states, almost boldly. There's no palpable emote besides the light swaying into view of his appendages. In his inexpressiveness, he's transparent, unnervingly so. "I did not want you to take part. As I've already let you know, you were better off not exposing yourself to that type of operation."
  90. (Walter Docro)
  91. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  92.
  93. [20:40] Walter Docro says, "You're better as you are."
  94. [20:40] Kalina releases Elred and peeks over to the ongoing drama.
  95. (Kalina Octavius)
  96. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  97.
  98. [20:40] Elred returned the hug and it was soon released
  99. (Elred Yindove)
  100. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  101.
  102. [20:46] "No. That ain't fine." sniff. He had some problems with remaining still, and it was obvious that he was getting more and more addicted to the substance that had been with him for so long.
  103.
  104. "She helped us, Walter!" One hand rises to his nose, briefly rubbing against it. He sniffles once, before continuing to speak. His voice was still shaky, but it seemed to find some solace now.
  105.
  106. "She was there when we entered the Academy! She at least deserved t'know!"
  107.
  108. sniff
  109.
  110. He turns back to Leni, a loud gulp coming out of his throat. He seems to take a few moments of simple contemplation of nothing else. "I don't think-- sniff --You should choose how she's better like."
  111.
  112. "I don't think we get to choose. I wanted to protect her so she couldn't get involved- I think her personality doesn't fit what we were doing."
  113.
  114. sniff
  115.
  116. "Sorry, Leni."
  117. (Marzius Volgin)
  118. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  119.
  120. [20:46] Elred Yindove whispers something.
  121. [20:46] Elred Yindove whispers something.
  122. [20:46] Kalina Octavius whispers something.
  123. [20:46] Elred Yindove whispers something.
  124. [20:50] For once, the moon-touched nature magi doesn't have a lot to say. All her whimsy, her air-headed ways and wild tendencies, she can come up with...nothing.
  125.
  126. Leni stares back at the impassive, porcelain face of Walter. There is nothing there for her. She withers, and so do the petals on her crown of flowers.
  127.
  128. Marizus' words, more apologetic, and he offers a slew of addled words, bloodshot eyes, and a serious case of the sniffles.
  129.
  130. "...It's fine. I'm gonna. Go do stuff," she mutters. She starts off somewhere into the gloom to the south, smothering the light from her bottle of fireflies.
  131. (Leni)
  132. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  133.
  134. [21:01] "Yes, I know, Marzius." He replies as lackadaisically as you'd expect from him at that moment. Regardless of his deadpan attitude, it's easy to see that Walter is indeed being crushed by the pressure of guilt. The gloominess is the prime contrast to be made out, as his usual pattern had him reacting in choleric outbursts of temperament. A quiet Walter was rarely one with clarity, it had become a running theme.
  135.
  136. "I'm not justifying my actions. I know what I did wasn't right, yet I did it all the same." Finally, his heel works as the pivoting point for him to turn to the side, facing away as the vertex of the triangle he'd stand in. "I'm explaining them. I'd rather deal with the consequences of my undoing than beg for your forgiveness."
  137.
  138. His jaw tightens, if only for a brief moment. Something hot pushes it's way out of his gut, scorching and blistering his insides. It's love. In it's most obtuse, expected manner, there's nothing but love.
  139.
  140. "Here she is, unscathed. Wish we could say the same of our brother, Demius." It was too late for him. "Even if keeping her out wasn't the optimal choice? I'll choke on the guilt a million times over before risking her welfare over puny coin again."
  141. (Walter Docro)
  142. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  143.
  144. [21:09] Marzius keeps his eyes settled upon Walter, even if they shake to the side momentarily. He blinks quickly, squeezing his eyes shut, tongue moving to lick over his lips for a moment.
  145.
  146. He wasn't stable, no. This much was obvious to the very core. The mention of Demius causes his teeth to clench together. "Don't remind me of Demius."
  147.
  148. "I swear to god, Walter- I want the best for Leni, but--" Hah. He exhales, finally winding down just some. "You're right. Even if we took your choice from that, Leni- I wouldn't forgive myself if you had done half of what we did."
  149.
  150. "If you had seen us beating the prince. If you had stayed there- Osrona would kill you." These were rough and few, taking most of his concentration to speak without even stopping to sniffle. Oh, but of course, one hand moved up to rub at his nose again, eyes squeezing shut.
  151.
  152. sniff.
  153.
  154. "Like they're probably doing to Lin and Silat now."
  155.
  156. His words turn to an entirely different topic- While he shared some fondness for Leni? It wasn't anywhere as near what the dog-faced Walter felt for her.
  157.
  158. It had the same intensity as his burning desire for revenge, however. "I won't do that shit for coin anymore, Walter. They came in- They ruined us."
  159.
  160. "I swear to every single deity in this realm- I'm going to ruin that fucking prince next time I see him."
  161. (Marzius Volgin)
  162. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  163.
  164. [21:14] Kalina Octavius says, "..."
  165. [21:15] Leni's already at the edge of the shadows, prepared to vanish somewhere further into the Vale when she feels another pang wash over her. Oh yes, Phere had told her what happened to Demius too. The news of someone being beaten doesn't help either.
  166.
  167. The Vale, Myllenoris, is full of bad news; it's what she's prone to avoiding wherever possible, whether by leaving where the bad is happening or plugging her ears.
  168.
  169. They had their business, and she had hers- to stay herself. That's best done somewhere else. Somewhere where things are brighter and there's plenty of flowers. Not where there's corpses.
  170.
  171. She vanishes, and only the gods know what's even on her mind anymore, since she's not spitting out every errant thought.
  172. (Leni)
  173. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
