  1. >This day, just like all other days begun with morning
  2. >You didn’t usually care much for mornings
  3. >This one wasn’t to be much different
  4. >You wanted to sleep
  5. >ignore it, just wait and it goes away eventually
  6. >stumble out of bed at some time after 9
  7. >get some food, coffee, whatever
  8. >you had a few days of just waiting in front of you
  9. >But before those days, this one
  10. >you make a simple dish for Annie
  11. >An omelette with some veggies and a little meat
  12. >upstairs Annie and Gnevny are just as you left them last night
  13. >Gnevny wakes up straight away and looks at you
  14. >You nod just a little bit and hold the plate out
  15. >She understands what you mean, crawls out of the bed, walks up to you and accepts the plate
  16. >Maybe Annie would eat a little more if she didn't have the feeling of being a burden to you
  17. >Something funny happened when you walk downstairs
  18. >For the first time in almost a year
  19. >You don’t really have anything to do
  20. >Annie was being cared for
  21. >The cars were all running
  22. >No returns to do
  23.
  24. >One would think this would be something pleasant
  25. >But instead an uneasy feeling was creeping up on you
  26. >Annie was getting worse, and you didn’t do anything about it
  27. >You couldn’t, right now
  28. >Then again, it didn’t feel very good just sitting on your hands either
  29. >just sitting
  30. >watching the clocks’ arms ticking the minutes away
  31. >like a countdown
  32. >Ticking Annie away from you
  33. >It was almost painful to listen to after a while
  34. >You read a little
  35. >watched some TV
  36. >Sat and spoke with Annie when you could
  37. >When she was awake
  38. >It wasn’t much of that, since she slept so much
  39. >But eventually, Thursday rolls around
  40. >You have the old car prepared, fueled and loaded with some food if need be
  41. >Friday morning you head out
  42. >Just like earlier, Annie stayed in bed
  43. >Of course, you fed and talked to her before you left
  44. >Reassuring her
  45. >Telling her the plans for today
  46. >Anything to put her mind at ease
  47. >You took the old Toyota this time
  48. >to attempt to look like a family a little bit more
  49. >Attempt
  50.
  51. >You found a nearby Walmart and bought enough ice cream to fill the entire boot and a wagon for Gnevny to drag it all along
  52. >The car slows to a halt outside the kindergarten at about lunch time
  53. >Gnevny walks off with this simply ridiculous amount of ice cream
  54. >And with that, you’re left in the car with Doll again
  55. >The window was down, a light breeze was cooling down the car
  56. >The radio plays some forgotten song
  57.
  58. “Hey Anon…”
  59. >”Yeah?”
  60. “Can i uhm…”
  61. >”What?”
  62.
  63. >Doll shuffles a little in her seat and then leans in on you
  64. >She knows very well this isn’t her place
  65. >But times have been a little hard with Annie being sick
  66. >It was just the two of you
  67. >And right now she just needed a little bit of warmth
  68. >You sit there for half an hour before Gnevny comes back with an envelope in her hand
  69. >She slides into the back seat and slams the door shut
  70. >Her words are short and heavy
  71. “How far would you go for her?”
  72. >”To help Annie?”
  73. “Yes”
  74. >”Very, very far”
  75. “This is fixable”
  76. >”Well, there we are then. What do i have to do?”
  77. “Get plane tickets”
  78. “They are gonna see mom?!” Doll bursts out
  79. “Looks that way” Gnevny sighs
  80. >”Mom? Wait, what’s going on here?”
  81.
  82. >They both quiet down a little, and look away
  83.
  84. “Uhm… i think that’s for Annie to tell you”
  85.
  86.
  87. “But at least…” Doll starts “You get to see that snowy place with all the mountains. In Europe… uhm… Australia!”
  88. >”Do you mean Austria?”
  89. “Augh… No she doesn’t” Gnevny cuts in. “The other one. Sw-”
  90. “I know! Sweden!” Doll shouts
  91. “Wow, you really are blonde, aren’t you? No, it’s Switzerland” Gnevny grunts out
  92. “Ehh… Cold snowy place with mountains. Nobody cares anyway”
  93.
  94. >Doll blushes a little and accepts defeat
  95. >You let the argue a little as you take her envelope and pull out the slip of paper
  96. >It did feel a little weird something this important was written with a crayon
  97. >It had just some names, probably places and then a number
  98.
  99. >You take a photo of the note immediately and write up what it said on another piece of paper
  100. >Just to be on the safe side
  101. >And then drive home
  102. >you didn’t even take the key out of the car
  103. >Just rushed up the stairs, tearing Annie’s bedroom door open
  104. >She woke up with a jolt looking at you
  105. >You put the piece of paper in her hands
  106.
  107. >She looks and reads it over several times
  108. >Her eyes light up at first
  109. >And then tears start forming in her eyes
  110. >It truly hurt to see Annie like this
  111. >but these were happy tears
  112. >right?
  113. y-you shouldn’t have…
  114. >”Shush you. Looks like this in the only way to help you. I’ll get you there, and you will tell me a story on the way, alright?”
  115.
  116. >Annie keeps quietly sobbing
  117. >You lie down next to her and just hold on
  118. >It wasn’t technically something you shouldn’t do
  119. >Since she will move and wrap around you and hug you
  120. >But right now, you didn’t care about that
  121. >She needed this
  122. >Until she fell asleep ten minutes later
  123.
  124. >once again, nestling yourself out of her grip proved rather difficult
  125. >but just like earlier, it was a nice struggle
  126. >Not that you wanted to leave Annie or anything
  127.
  128. >That night you say up with the shitty old laptop, rigged with phone hotspot internet
  129. >And was looking for plane tickets
  130. >There were no flights going directly to Zürich
  131. >Second best idea was taking a flight into Munich
  132. >From there the options were either a second flight connecting the two cities
  133. >It would be fast, but expensive
  134. >And the overlay would be a few hours
  135. >Another option was Bus travel. Very cheap, but would mean carrying Annie or making her walk
  136. >Not good
  137. >Besides, both of these would require getting a rental car for the last stretch in the mountains in the south
  138. >A third alternative was getting the rental car as early as Munich and drive the 200 something miles into Switzerland
  139. >That part might only be 3 or 4 hours, but your head would be rather squishy after the 11+ hour flight
  140. >That could be solved with drugging yourself with caffeine and red bull to a certain extent
  141. >But not well enough to drive and take care about Annie
  142. >That night you stayed up until 4 AM making calls, fixing arrangements, looking at flights and a rental car
  143. >Some of it might have been on the slightly shadier spectrum of things
  144. >But as far as you could see, there was really only one way for Annie to get to europe as she was now
  145. >Your passport was still valid… barely
  146. >Sadly Annie didn’t have one
  147. >Or a social security number
  148. >Or any papers
  149. >This could be solved by claiming she didn’t have any papers or she was your wife… that somehow didn’t have any papers
  150. >found abroad maybe?
  151. >Annie did speak russian fluently
  152. >problem is that this was something people had tried before
  153. >And there was always someone at some point making sure no one was smuggling or otherwise did inappropriate things with geists
  154. >could Annie control this?
  155. >She did have certain control over other geists, and if you two would encounter any when getting the passport, she might be able to do something about it
  156. >Could she do this when sick?
  157. >Not sure, you would have to ask
  158. >Maybe she doesn't know either
  159. >And a passport could take weeks to get a hold of
  160. >And you couldn’t really book any flights before you were certain when she would have it
  161.
  162. >eventually you give in for the night
  163. >And while you would have wanted to crawl up next to Annie, it seems Gnevny had beaten you do it
  164. >can’t really blame her, CC weapons could get a little attached
  165. >This did leave you with a bed all on your own, and it didn’t take you long before falling asleep
  166.
  167. >The infernal screeching from the phone's alarm clock wakes up and you immediately feel a huge urge to throw it in the wall
  168. >but time waits for no one, or however that saying went
  169. >get some food and load up the car
  170. >Then bring in something for Annie
  171. >She could really only eat very soft foods by now
  172. >soup, very tender meat, some breads
  173. >But to her surprise you didn’t get her back into bed after the bathroom
  174. >You picked her up in a carry hug instead
  175. >Down two stairs and into the car
  176. >She was substantially lighter than what you were used to
  177. >Not eating much and unable to leave this form had taken its toll on her
  178. >She was even a little scared
  179. >for a second she thought something… unspeakable would happen
  180. >It felt awful beyond at words when she tensed up in your arms
  181. >But you got her in the car and explained a few things to her
  182. >First of all, where she wasn’t going
  183. >Then, how you felt towards her
  184. >After that you explained that these feeling weren’t going to change anytime soon
  185. >Then came the explanation of how the plan for today looked
  186. >The little scheme
  187. >The lies that were going to be told
  188. >How they were going to be told
  189.
  190. >You sat down with Annie for half an hour
  191. >She cried, sobbed and burbled
  192. >It took her another 10 minutes to start breathing normally again
  193.
  194. I understand
  195.
  196. >And then it was Annie’s turn to speak her mind >”Think you can do this?”
  197. I just have to lie like crazy, try to look even more miserable than i already do
  198. >”You don’t look mi-”
  199. You don’t have to do that for me. I’ve probably lost over a quarter of my body weight. Both the strong and the soft bits
  200. >”Well, your ass has gotten significantly more…”
  201. Yeah, and my ribs are showing, like all the time. But it’s really hard to eat
  202.
  203. >And that grinded that conversation to a halt
  204. >There was no guarantee at all that any of this would work
  205. >You could end up arrested today
  206. >The rules were no geists could have passports
  207. >That was decided by the TSA right away
  208. >because terrorists this and that bla bla bla
  209. >Fuckups runing the fun for everyone else
  210. >As usual
  211.
  212. >After another hour on the road the old saloon goes quiet
  213. >You have stopped outside a post office
  214. >Your heart was pulsating enough for you to feel it
  215. >In your chest, throat, temples
  216. >Your mouth had gone a little dry
  217. >Annie looked much more composed
  218. >calmer
  219. >Like you would imagine a highly trained professional before doing something… critical
  220.
  221. Anon, you look like a scared virgin
  222. >”Why do i feel you’re not taking this seriously”
  223. I am. Very much so. I am also much more experienced in telling lies
  224. >”Annie…”
  225. Not to you. Never to you
  226. >”Right…”
  227. Shall we go then, little virgin?
  228. >”I swear, i’ll pin you to a wall”
  229. It’s not okay to do that to cripples
  230. >”And you’re gonna stop me?”
  231.
  232. >Annie giggles a little
  233. >And then the seriousness of it all comes back
  234. >But she did a wonderful job of calming you down
  235. >And then takes a deep breath, stand up on her shaky legs
  236. >you get out of the car with her, take her hand and walk in
  237. >You ended up happy
  238. >Your heart were warmer than it had ever been before
  239. >your cheeks has a light rosy tint
  240.
  241. >You’ve both putten all your feeling on a plate in front of each other
  242. >It’s like a massive spaghetti spillage
  243. >But in a very romantic way
  244. >So romantic that the silence you shared between you felt comfortable
  245.
  246. >But sooner or later it had to be broke, and this time it was to be by the purr of an old 6 cylinder
  247. >The old BMW was driven slower this time
  248. >Just cruising along at the speed limit
  249. >flipping through the mostly awful radio channels that were playing
  250. >You eventually turned the radio off and chat idly with Annie instead
  251. >Just like all the lazy afternoons you shared with each other
  252. >The two of you had wasted so many hour just babbling pointlessly with each other
  253. >you could have a discussion, spanning several different topics from the point you came through the door after work
  254. >through cooking, eating the dinner, doing the dishes and just being together on the sofa afterwards
  255. >”Think you can do this?”
  256. I just have to lie like crazy, try to look even more miserable than i already do
  257. >”You don’t look mi-”
  258. You don’t have to do that for me. I’ve probably lost over a quarter of my body weight. Both the strong and the soft bits
  259. >”Well, your ass has gotten significantly more…”
  260. Yeah, and my ribs are showing, like all the time. But it’s really hard to eat
  261.
  262. >And that grinded that conversation to a halt
  263. >There was no guarantee at all that any of this would work
  264. >You could end up arrested today
  265. >The rules were no geists could have passports
  266. >That was decided by the TSA right away
  267. >because terrorists this and that bla bla bla
  268. >Fuckups runing the fun for everyone else
  269. >As usual
  270.
  271. >After another hour on the road the old saloon goes quiet
  272. >You have stopped outside a post office
  273. >Your heart was pulsating enough for you to feel it
  274. >In your chest, throat, temples
  275. >Your mouth had gone a little dry
  276. >Annie looked much more composed
  277. >calmer
  278. >Like you would imagine a highly trained professional before doing something… critical
  279.
  280. Anon, you look like a scared virgin
  281. >”Why do i feel you’re not taking this seriously”
  282. I am. Very much so. I am also much more experienced in telling lies
  283. >”Annie…”
  284. Not to you. Never to you
  285. >”Right…”
  286. Shall we go then, little virgin?
  287. >”I swear, i’ll pin you to a wall”
  288. It’s not okay to do that to cripples
  289. >”And you’re gonna stop me?”
  290.
  291. >Annie giggles a little
  292. >And then the seriousness of it all comes back
  293. >But she did a wonderful job of calming you down
  294. >And then takes a deep breath, stand up on her shaky legs
  295. >you get out of the car with her, take her hand and walk in
  296.
  297. ============================
  298.
  299.
  300. >a full three hour later you can go back out again
  301. >about two hour and 45 minutes of those had been spent waiting
  302. >there was only one man behind the counter
  303. >he was grossly obese
  304. >the kind of obese with multiple chins
  305. >He was sweaty, wheezing for air and was jiggling as he moved
  306. >You didn’t mind too much
  307. >But Annie had a burning, glowing furious hatred for him
  308. >All of him
  309. >But he seemed to at least do his job
  310. >But is was somewhat amusing to listen to Annie spew out insults in russian as well as english
  311. >Finally your turn, you told told the story and he just nodded
  312. >Took 30 seconds to turn the chair around and left
  313. >Just a few minutes later he returns at a faster pace
  314. >He didn’t even say anything, just that you should come back a week later do to “delays”
  315. >strangely, he just said “please” when you press him
  316. >At the end of the day, you can’t do anything about it
  317. >Just get back into the car and…
  318.
  319. >”Who said that?”
  320. “Mee! Wait!”
  321. >”Gnevny?! How the fuck did you get there?”
  322. “W-wait!”
  323.
  324.
  325. >Her hair was cut in half length and was colored dark brown
  326. >She held her shoes in one hand and her hoodie and… a plastic bag in another
  327.
  328. What’s going on Anon?
  329. >”Uhm… things, gimmie a sec”
  330.
  331. >You crouch in front of Gnevny and grab her by the shoulder
  332.
  333. >”Gnevny, seriously what is going on”
  334. “L-let me get in the car!”
  335.
  336. >She breaks free and dashes over to the passenger door where Annie sat
  337. >You hurry back into the old sedan and watch a very confused Annie holding Gnevny in her arms
  338. >The car is on the road home a few minutes later
  339. Did you bring her?
  340. >”No, thought you did”
  341. Really?
  342. >”Gnevny. Time to spit it out”
  343. “Annie saved me. I owe her this”
  344.
  345. >She gets an even firmer grip around Annie
  346.
  347. What did you do, little one?
  348. “Your chances of just getting a passport was minuscule. I just made sure you would get it”
  349. >”Uhm…”
  350. Gnevny…
  351. “This town is so sparsely populated, this one guy decides if you are fit for the passport or not. I just made sure he would say yes”
  352. >”What did you do?”
  353. “Can i please not tell you that. I just want Annie to be okay”
  354. I hope you are not putting yourself in danger for me
  355. “I’m repaying what i owe you”
  356. And that would be what?
  357. “Eveything”
  358.
  359. >There wasn’t much you could reply to that
  360. >Annie eases the seat back, and the miles slowly but surely got chewed up
  361. >You all arrived at the house by late afternoon
  362. >Doll had, as she usually does made a dinner
  363. >And just like usual, you had yours upstairs while feeding Annie
  364. >She had lost a lot of weight, and seriously struggled to eat
  365.
  366. >”Hey Annie, what are we going to do when all this is over?”
  367.
  368. >you made very sure you punctuated “when”
  369.
  370. Anon, i don’t know if i can-
  371. >”I don’t think we could just go back to normal jobs. Think we can?”
  372. I managed to adjust back from a world war. Should not be a problem for you after this. Little virgin
  373. >”And you would want that?”
  374. I've never had a proper job before. As in, a legal one. If we actually pull-
  375. >”When. When we pull this off”
  376. Ehem… when we pull this off, I'll have a passport, and be legal and everything…
  377. >”Just gonna wait and see, then?
  378. We will figure it out, I'm sure
  379.
  380. >it was quickly getting obvious Annie fought the sandman at this point
  381. >her speech got more slurred and her eyelids heavy
  382. >you helped her out of her clothes, gently tucked her in and left with with a light kiss
  383. >and just like that, she had entered the mists
  384. >And now she would probably sleep for 14 hours and be drowsy for another two
  385. >As sad as it was to stare at her close bedroom door for hours to end, it was for the best
  386.
  387. >and then back downstairs
  388. >Back to the computer
  389. >time and time again, you look at travel times, prices and departure. You could the flight times by head now.
  390. >Cheapest was probably to fly to drive to a really big airport, leave the car there, go directly to Munich, rent a car there and drive the rest of the bit back into Switzerland
  391. >All at the time while having a little notebook
  392. >Things you had to bring along
  393. >sadly the third note was “Wheelchair”
  394. >It would be very humiliating for Annie to sit in a wheelchair
  395. >Shouting out to the world that she was good for nothing and needed taken care about
  396. >But with the bags and everything, you couldn’t really carry her as well
  397. >Maybe with just a rucksack, but nothing more
  398. >Sad as it was, a wheelchair was needed
  399. >That would be another 275 dollars for the ticket
  400. >because she couldn’t stand on her own legs
  401. >Thanks, Delta
  402.
  403. “Anon?”
  404. >”Oh hi Doll”
  405. “Not time for sleep yet?”
  406. >”Uhm…”
  407.
  408. >It really was late
  409. >the evening had faded away and dwindled into the single digits of the night
  410.
  411. “You know, it’s tearing on all of us, but you really need to rest. You don’t keep going and Annie…”
  412. >”Yeah, i get it… i’ll get some rest”
  413. >Another Usual night routine, another climb up the stairs and another face first down into the pillow
  414.
  415. >Unknowingly to you, Stephanie, the tiny geist for the Kolibri pistol was watching over
  416. >She sits perfectly still, breathes as silently as she possibly could until she was satisfied you wouldn’t wake up
  417. >She carefully slides down the shelf and squeezes herself out in a little hole drilled behind a wardrobe to another room
  418. >A room where Doll is waiting
  419. “He’s asleep, let’s go!”
  420.
  421. >Doll scoops up Stephanie and silently sneak downstairs
  422. >A few tired looking faces sit downstairs and seems like they are not enjoying their game of cards very much
  423. >But with the words “Go! He’s out” the three jump to life and as silently as possible get out to the driveway
  424.
  425. >Amanda got behind the wheel of the heavy, old BMW and waited for the others to get in
  426. >Cassie and Doll waited for the last door to click shut before they heaved with all their might to push the car and start it rolling down the slight incline leading to the road
  427. >At a safe distance from the house, Amanda turn the key and the engine hums to life without waking anyone up
  428. >Cassie jogs up and slides into the passenger seat while Doll stays
  429. >She watches the sedan slowly roll away on the forest road
  430. >Everything was in their hands now
  431. >Gnevny and Cassie had made a plan
  432. >A risky one
  433. >But probably the only way Annie would ever get her passport
  434.
  435. “Everyone knows what you have to do?” Gnevny spoke coldly
  436. “Bait” Lala didn’t seem to very happy about that part “But then I get to be a kidnapper!”
  437. “Brawn and driver” Cassie stated coldly
  438. “Infiltration!” Stephanie squeaked
  439. “Support” Amanda declared
  440.
  441. “So, listen up. We have pinned this guys movements. He will leave the meet at about midnight, and then a 20 minute drive home. We will intercept him at the car park. Lala will distract and Cassie… do what you do. Amanda will be ready with the ether”
  442. “That is kinda creepy to be honest. Where did you get the ether” Amanda sighed
  443. “You have no idea” Cassie replied “I’m not kidding you, Doll is like THE biggest closet pervert ever. I mean like full on sexual predator. She makes this stuff”
  444. “Makes?!” Lala seems unsettled
  445. “Yes, seriously. First off, never ever leave Doll alone with pistols, because it will leave them traumatised. And and if you doubt it, look at the chest she keeps in her room”
  446. “Chest?”
  447. “Oh, shit” Cassie shook a little “Aren’t you supposed to be a teenagers or something? Nevermind. You really shouldn’t look at these things”
  448. “How come we’ve never heard anything off it. I mean, Amanda is super cute!”
  449. “And Lala!”
  450. “yeah…” Cassie sighed “Annie caught up to this a few months ago. Doll got… ehem… put in her place. So it’s a lot more closet than pervert right now”
  451.
  452. >The little chatter was interrupted as the big sedan slowed to a halt
  453.
  454. “So, we are looking for… a white 2015 Fiesta. Should be here in a few minutes until it’s here”
  455.
  456. >The car got all quiet as they were waiting
  457. >No radio on
  458. >Windows down just a little and listening to the sounds of the nights
  459. >The wind breezing
  460. >people shouting somewhere away
  461. >...distant gunfire?
  462. >police sirens
  463. >And the the buzz of a little engine
  464.
  465. “Ready up”
  466.
  467. >Cassie took the lead and stepped out of the car
  468. >Lala and Amanda followed her
  469.
  470. “Wait!” Gnevny hissed “Remember your cover Lala!”
  471. “Yeah yeah, if anyone notices ears and tail, i’m a cosplayer, i know”
  472.
  473. >Cassie ran away to the corner of the lot with Amanda in tow while Lala took cover behind an SUV
  474. >And for just a moment
  475. >When the young man, maybe in his late teens, unloaded the car, it was all quiet
  476. >Then Lala wondered out as he was leaving his car
  477. >he stood still for a few seconds
  478. >looking at Lala
  479. >How she twitched her feline ears just a little
  480. >The tail softly swin-
  481.
  482. >THUD
  483. >Cassie hit him like a freight train from behind
  484. >He falls to the ground
  485. >And not five seconds later, Amanda had pushed a wet rag over his nose and mouth
  486. >And then, he passed out
  487. >Cassie helped the two smaller rifles to tie him up and shove him into the boot of the Fiesta
  488. >Lala and Amanda jumped into the little hatchback and followed the larger BMW out of the car park and into the night
  489.
  490. >After a few miles the cars spilt up, with the Fiesta leaving for an abandoned section of a little town, and the sedan, with Cassie, Gnevny and Stephanie in it to the Post office
  491. >Now, breaking into a post office might seem like a daft idea, but if you’re only 2 feet tall, some things are easy to get through
  492. >Like action movie cliche #1, the ventilation system
  493.
  494. >It was at this point Cassie and Gnevny realised they had no idea what to do while waiting
  495. >It's not like Stephanie carried a cellphone or anything
  496.
  497. >They both ended up sitting in the car with the radio playing some slow music
  498. >It was a little bit of awkwardness between them
  499. >Gnevny was cuddly, but reluctantly so
  500. >She'd never shuffle towards anyone
  501. >But when Cassie sighed and pulled her into her lap, Gnevny didn't resist
  502. >Cassie was an AT rifle after all
  503. >And Gnevny a sidearm
  504. >There was still a hierarchy to follow
  505.
  506. “Think she will make it?”
  507. “Mhm…” Gnevny sighed heavily and somewhat sleepy
  508. “Good. And Lala and Amanda?”
  509. “It's a scatterbrain leading an air head. But I'm pretty sure they will make it. I mean…” The little Makarov sighed heavily, getting more and more comfortable in the embrace “it's just get him to call his dad and whine a little. Can't exactly go wrong”
  510. >At that exact moment, Doll was scrolling down another page and looking at pictures she’d have a really hard time to explain if someone saw
  511. >She had her certain itches
  512. >Sadly, as long as Annie was here, that was was a no-go
  513. >She she did what anyone else would do
  514. >turn to the internet
  515. >The night was getting late, and her left hand was just about to find its way down her pants when the phone rang
  516. >It was Lala
  517. >She would only call if something went wrong
  518.
  519. “Yes?”
  520. “Doll! This isn't working!”
  521. “Sitrep. Now”
  522. “We have him in the cellar, and trying to call his dad, but…. He's not acting like we thought he would! Amanda is traumatised already! Help!”
  523. “What is going on?!”
  524. “Listen!”
  525.
  526. >Lala takes the phone, places it on a table next to the tied up man
  527. >Doll listens attentively
  528.
  529. “Now, tell your father you are captured!”
  530. “No~”
  531.
  532. >smack
  533.
  534. “P-please hit me again mistress”
  535. “DON'T CALL ME THAT”
  536. “You can always gag me~”
  537.
  538. >Lala picks up the phone and speaks to Doll again
  539.
  540. “S-see! He gets off to this!”
  541.
  542. >Doll remained silent for a moment
  543. >While she slowly closed the lid of the laptop
  544.
  545. “I'll leave in 10 minutes. Keep him there”
  546. >All while you were asleep, Doll gathered up the things she needed
  547. >not that that was things most people would normally need
  548. >Not that this was much of of a normal night anyway
  549. >8 minutes and 57 seconds after she ended the call, Doll fired up the old Pontiac and sped off
  550.
  551. >While she was driving, Gnevny and Cassie waited outside the post office
  552. >Stephanie was still working inside, finding drawers, looking for papers
  553. >Turns out breaking in wasn’t very exciting
  554. >Gnevny even walked away and bought a milkshake in a night open petrol station and shared with Cassie
  555. >they sat around and waited
  556. >talked a bit
  557. >idle chatter about whatever to pass the time
  558. >At about the same time as Stephanie managed to crawl out and get back to the car, Doll arrived at the little abandoned house
  559. >Lala sat and comforted Amanda in what was the living room at some point in time
  560.
  561. “Hey, Doll”
  562. “Good evening. All okay here?”
  563. “Considering the circumstances, I guess”
  564.
  565. >Amanda just nodded a little and stared into the ground
  566.
  567. “Right. Take the GTO, go to a diner or a movie or something, make sure your phones are on. And Lala-”
  568. “Yeah, I know if someone asks it's cosplay”
  569. “Good. I left some money in the car, you have fun now”
  570.
  571. >Doll watched the old car rumble away
  572. >When she was comfortable with it being out of sight, she started changing
  573. >Old comfy pair of jeans went off, as did the blouse and jacket
  574. >And on went her old uniform
  575. >The very same one she wore in a God forgotten jungle in south East Asia a long, long time ago
  576. >Those black leather boots
  577. >They still fit rather badly, maybe not surprising considering how walked a lot less than the soldier carrying her did
  578. >She took the big duffel bag over her shoulder and went downstairs, to the young man still tied to a chair
  579.
  580. “Hello”
  581. >She had put her voice askew a little, to make it sound a touch more hoarse
  582.
  583. “W-who are you?”
  584.
  585. >Dolls clothes and act gave exactly the right vibes, and the effect was immediate
  586.
  587. “Don't worry. You won't see me after tonight. I do however have the same request as the previous girls. So-
  588. “You have to make me”
  589.
  590. >Doll slaps him with considerable force
  591.
  592. “Make you, huh?”
  593.
  594. >He was too busy squealing to give an answer
  595.
  596. “You think I won't be able to make you talk?”
  597. “I-I'll take my chances”
  598. “Of course you will. It's… almost 11 o'clock and i figure I have about 7 hours to make this work. I'm going to enjoy myself at least”
  599.
  600. >The man tried to answer, but something made sure he couldn't get as much as a sound out
  601. >He was going to have a long night
  602.
  603. >At about 2 In the morning, a slightly tipsy Lala clings on Amanda, both Agreeing that Mad Max: Wasteland was indeed the best film ever made
  604.
  605. “We should toooootally go to Australia sometime”
  606. “Lala, I've told you, it's not a documentary”
  607. “You said that about Star Wars as well”
  608. “Yeah, it's because that's not a documentary either”
  609. “You don't know that! You have no evidence!”
  610. “Lightsabers aren't real”
  611. “In another galaxy, they are. How else would we have filmed it?”
  612. “I… don't know”
  613. “See! I tooold you! Hihihihi…”
  614. “Damnit Lala, take it easy, we're among people…”
  615.
  616. >Amanda grabs and moves away the hand that has been groping her ass for the last minute
  617.
  618. “Please behave”
  619. “Okay…”
  620.
  621. >Lala’s posture sinks together, tail slacks and ears fold flat
  622.
  623. “No, wait I don't want you to be sad, Lala, please?”
  624. “B-but i like you…”
  625. “I know, but you know in public it will attract attention and-”
  626.
  627. “HEEEEEY”
  628.
  629. >Lala and Amanda turn their eyes away from each other and to the side, where a group of even more drunk teenagers stands
  630.
  631. “ARE THOSE REAL”
  632. “O-oh, these?”
  633.
  634. >Lala was blushing and stuttering when she pointed to the sizeable feline ears on her head
  635.
  636. “Nooo, no. Nonono. T-these i bought online”
  637. “CAN I TRY THEM PLEEEEEEASE”
  638. “N-no. Uhm… I'm wearing them”
  639. “WHERE DID YOU BUY THE TAIL. IT'S SOOO FLUFFY. LET ME TOUCH IT”
  640. “Whaaaa.... No, wait”
  641.
  642. >The drunk teenager rushes up to Lala and start reaching for her head
  643.
  644. “THEY FEEL SO REAL”
  645.
  646. >Amanda steps in and pushes the teen away
  647.
  648. “Go easy on her! She's wearing that for the first time damnit!”
  649. “BUT IT'S SOOO CUUUUTE”
  650. “Sure it is, but you are getting too close”
  651.
  652. >The teenager finally realised the mistake
  653.
  654. “S-sorry”
  655. “It's fine. If you want a pair, look on ebay or something”
  656. “Y-you too”
  657.
  658. >Amanda drags the confused Lala away
  659.
  660. “You didn't have to be so harsh…”
  661. “You're mine, and the drunk got to close. Let's go”
  662. “You can scratch them if you want to…”
  663. “Hmpf…”
  664.
  665. >Despite Amanda's grumpy reaction, one of her hands finds its way to Lala’s head
  666. >A finger runs gently where the ear meets the head, and it waggles happily in response
  667. >Half an hour later they have munched up some french fries, and lie in the back of the car
  668. >Both phones had been silent for a while
  669.
  670. “This was okay as far as an evening goes”
  671. “mhm…”
  672.
  673. >Lala shoves her face into Amanda’s shoulder
  674.
  675. “What do you think Doll is doing?” Amanda wondered
  676. “Getting things done…”
  677. “Yeah, but how?”
  678. “Do you really want to know...?”
  679. “How would i know, if it don’t know?”
  680. “Hmm… I guess you’re right”
  681.
  682. >During exactly that moment, Doll’s right hand was turning sore after quite a long time of “correcting the behaviour” of the man she was interrogating
  683. “Hey, Amanda?”
  684. “Mhm?”
  685. “Did the drunk really like my ears that much?”
  686. “I think so”
  687. “Think I can make money on it?”
  688. “...”
  689. “I MEANT HAIR BRUSHING VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE YOU DAMN PERVERT”
  690. “S-sorry”
  691. “Don't worry, sweetheart, only you can touch”
  692. “Uhm… thanks?”
  693.
  694. >Lala sighs and crawls up to the driver's seat of the car
  695.
  696. “Come on, seems like the guys are about to finish up”
  697.
  698. ~~~
  699.
  700. >You wake up late that morning
  701. >And none of the two nicer cars are there
  702. >Your initial reaction is to find one of your weapons
  703. >But since they were gone as well, you sighed heavily and made some food
  704. >same morning routine, help Annie doe her things, no matter how much she didn't liked being helped with the most basic of things
  705. >Wash her off
  706. >carry her back to bed
  707. >Sit and feed her, idle chatter
  708. >Often just lay down and watch a movie
  709.
  710. >Today she wanted to sit in the sun a little
  711. >You found a nice deck chair, a cushion and let her sit there
  712. >In the sound of the light breeze, the chirping of birds and the sun on her skin, Annie fell asleep in a few minutes
  713. >At a few minutes past 8, two cars roll in
  714. >First, the sleek, straight lines of the early 1990s in the BMW followed by the rounded and chromed GTO
  715. >There was a lot to ask
  716. >Why Doll was wearing her uniform
  717. >Why Cassie looked as tired to sleep for a full day
  718. >Why Lala and Amanda ran into the house chattering faster than what anyone could decipher
  719. >The only one that actually stopped to talk to you was the little redhead
  720.
  721. “Gnevny! Do I want to know what everyone has been up to tonight?”
  722. “No. But we did good. For a good cause. And if something nice happens in a week or so, be nice to Doll”
  723. “Uhh… okay”
  724. >Days went by, waiting for any news from anyone
  725. >Annie did her best just holding on to life, but it got more and more evident the sickness was starting to get the better of her
  726. >Her joints hurt more and more, her muscles got stale
  727. >She couldn't walk herself at this point
  728. >Her legs simply didn't carry her
  729. >You also had a harder and harder time getting her to eat anything
  730. >when everything else was hard to eat, you were left with soup and fruit sliced in very small pieces
  731. >but she kept losing weight
  732. >Her once muscular yet soft legs had thinned down
  733. >her chest had shrunken
  734. >her face had seemingly gotten narrower, and more pale
  735. >and every time you washed her off, her ribcage got a little more pronounced
  736. >that awful feeling of her not having much time left always lay over you, like a wet, cold blanket
  737.
  738.
  739. >Hope was given a new flame some days later when Doll called from the car
  740. >Her message was short but it had everything you needed to know
  741. >Book a flight, first available
  742. >You knew there was rather few flights that went from American cities to Europe
  743. >The fastest you could get there was a flight leaving tomorrow evening from Des Moines going to Munich
  744. >21:45, the following evening
  745. >You rush up back to Annie with the good news
  746. >Get the bags packed
  747. >Passport, money, tickets clothes
  748. >And carry on bags with food, water, painkillers for Annie
  749. >Her passport arrived with Doll
  750. >Annie Simonova, it said
  751. >It had made up birthday, a picture
  752. >Even a place of birth
  753. >Annie cried a few tears of joy before pointing out that an extra “A” has snuck its way into her name
  754. >Not that she would complain
  755. >You set of hours ahead of what you needed to get to the airport
  756. >Doll was driving while you sat in the back seat
  757. >You should really sleep, it was going to be a long night
  758. >But you were far too sped up for that
  759. >“Doll”
  760. “Mhm?”
  761. >“How did you get her a passport that quickly anyway?”
  762. “I haven't threatened anyone”
  763. >“I didn't say you had”
  764. “Let's just put it like this. A dad is happy his son isn't a complete loser, and a son has had the night of his life”
  765. >“Uhm, did you two…?”
  766. “God no”
  767. >“I don't get it”
  768. “Please. Annie has her passport, and no one got hurt… in ways they didn't want”
  769. >“Okay, I'm really going to stop asking questions now”
  770.
  771. >Doll smirks and keeps driving
  772. >Miles upon miles get chewed up
  773. >As the afternoons approaches, traffic thickens up
  774. >thankfully, the last bit to the airport goes rather smoothly
  775. >You get Annie out of the car, and gently put her down in the wheelchair
  776. >All stuff you have with you is in two bags, one duffel bag you have to have on your back, and a little rucksack Annie has in her lap
  777. >Quite a bit of kit to haul around, but it was your burden to carry
  778.
  779. >You say goodbye to Doll and turn towards the terminal
  780. >looked fancy at least
  781. >big glass windows, ads with people smiling on them, shiny floors
  782. >You pushed her gently through the big revolving doors
  783. >It was her first time at an airport apparently
  784. >The good thing was pretty much any place one would want to go to in the airport was available to people traveling on wheels, which was very nice
  785. >This was probably because of landwhales on mobility scooters more than those in wheelchairs
  786.
  787. >All those airport things had to be done
  788. >Get the tickets from the fidgety machine
  789. >wait for luggage check in
  790. >get lost 3 times trying to find the security checks
  791. >They were incredibly interested in Annie due to her easter sounding name and wheelchair
  792. >Because to the TSA people, the only reason anyone would ever have a wheelchair was to smuggle something, and not because she couldn’t walk
  793. >It took quite a bit of time explaining to the man he had to lift Annie out of her wheelchair if he had to search it
  794. >Which he didn’t do, and instead got a female colleague to search Annie when she was still sitting down
  795. >A half hour they spent looking over the wheelchair and the contents of the little rucksack
  796.
  797. >And then trouble
  798. >An proud looking man in a uniform stands with a small girl by the door the the waiting hall
  799.
  800. Stop
  801. >”What is it, Annie?”
  802.
  803. >She nods towards the uniformed man
  804.
  805. Little one is state employed and her job is to see no geist get through. Probably won’t be a problem though. Just keep going
  806.
  807. >You trust her to know what she is doing and slowly pushed her through the checkpoint while pretending it's raining
  808.
  809. >”What did you do?” you dare ask when you got through security
  810.
  811. >Annie giggles a little, a very rare and precious sound nowadays
  812.
  813. It's because you are a bad actor
  814. >”I'm not that bad”
  815. You have to either speak or act with body language. The art is acting without using either
  816. >Dammit woman, this disease going to your he'd as well?”
  817.
  818. >It's quiet between you for a few seconds before she hears you laughing a little bit
  819.
  820. Not fair! This is serious business!
  821. >”Course it is sweetie”
  822.
  823. >You chatter a little between you while waiting for the plane to get fueled and cleaned
  824. >With the inevitable delay, the wheels depart from the ground just before 22:00
  825. >Turns out the cramped space in the seats were a catastrophic thing for Annie
  826. >The plane was crammed full, so there was no option of shuffling around
  827. >And all the bulkhead and seats and seats by the exits were occupied by either people in suits, that had paid for them, or hamplanets that “needed” them
  828. >Annie couldn't sit in her wheelchair either, because it was against safety regulations
  829. >After just half an hour, she was in quite bad pain
  830. >She could just barely wiggle in the seat before her knees bumped into the seat in front of her
  831. >And to add insult to injury, what appeared to be a mom with two kids, and the classic “I want to see the manager” haircut demanded Annie stopped “harassing” her by tapping the back of her seat
  832. >Telling her to be considerate to the fact Annie had bad pain in her legs was obviously the wrong thing to do, because she just reclined her seat
  833. >You blood was nearing it's boiling point, but you couldn't really start a fight in a plane
  834. >Instead you shifted places with your beloved Annie to get her behind the woman's child and give her a little more room
  835. >The woman in front sees this as an act of war and reclines the backrest on her child's seat, to make sure Annie can't move her legs at all
  836.
  837. >Never before have you wanted to kill anyone as badly as you wanted to kill this woman
  838.
  839. Anon, Please…
  840.
  841. >Annie whispers to you
  842.
  843. I will endure. But… you have to get me to mother as quickly as possible when we land
  844. >”It's just, this bitch…”
  845. I will make sure she gets what she deserves. Just be quick when we land, please
  846. >”I promise”
  847. >The flight took 11 hours and 40 minutes from start to finish
  848. >700 minutes of agonising pain Annie had to endure
  849. >She could do about two hours before tears started welling up in her eyes
  850. >When it got that bad, you lifted her out of the seat so she could sit by the toilets for a few minutes and stretch her legs a little
  851.
  852. [Munich international Airport, 16:55 local time]
  853. >The main landing gear wheels scream as the heavy 777 returns to earth after almost 12 hours in the air
  854. >The plane taxies for what seems like an eternity before arriving at the gate
  855. >Of course you have to wait until last with the pensioners to get enough space to carry Annie out and get her in her wheelchair
  856. >Then to do lots of normal airport stuff, stand in line, wait, look at vending machines
  857. >like the airport you left half a day ago, only much… more german
  858. >gard to explain what it what exactly
  859. >Something with the design maybe?
  860. >Whatever
  861. >Go through customs, passport check and all that
  862. >even the man (or mann because this is germany) behind the passport check in desk wore a very neat suit
  863. >The process was rather painless since there was no TSA to look search every little part of your body for drugs
  864. >Which was nice
  865. >You get the duffel bag, and then proceed out of the arrival hall
