  1. 3 types of intelligence
  2.
  3. My father always taught me that there are three types of intelligence. Intellect, social intelligence, and work ethic.
  4. I have two brothers and he always said that the three of us excel in one of them. My youngest brother has the social intelligence. As such, he is always invited to every party and goes on vacations to awesome places paid for by rich friends. But he is somewhat lazy and not particularly intelligent academically.
  5. My middle brother has the drive. He always has. What he lacks in raw intellect (not that he is particularly lacking) he makes up for in drive and motivation. And as such, he is well on his way to becoming a doctor. He is social, but not to the extent the youngest is.
  6. Then he would say that I have raw intellect that surpasses both of them. Pointing out things like how I got the highest SAT score of my brothers even though they practiced for months and months and took SAT classes. I stumbled in hung over because I didn't know I had them that day until I was already drunk. I had done no prep. Never really thought about them. Yet managed to get a 2250. I learn things more easily than them, but I don't apply it.
  7. He was a good dad. He would tell me I was smart, but always follow it up with "...but there are a lot of brilliant homeless people."
  8. He would always say, "You know I love you. And I don't care what you decide to become. You can be a millionaire or a garbage man. But whatever you choose to be, you should always do the best you can at it."
  9. He had one line that he always used. It's my favorite sentence. The bet advice anyone ever gave me.
  10. "Leave everything better than or equal to the way you found it."
  11. He would usually say it when I left dishes in my room or didn't replace the TP. But it is amazing advice for everything. If you always leave everything better than or equal to the way you found it, then you will always have a net positive impact on the world.
  12. He lived by that advice. And that's why 2000 people showed up to his wake last month.
