  1. SqueakyB: So here's something to let you know about the BS we still face with doctors:
  2. A friend's child was bitten by a tick, and because their family doctor had no openings, they went to the ER to try to obtain a Lyme test and some precautionary antibiotics.
  3. The ER doctors said that they wouldn't test the child because doxycycline (the medication most often prescribed for Lyme's early infection, and the one the CDC recommends) is bad for kids.
  4. (doxycycline discolors permanent teeth - they will turn yellow or brown with prolonged use)
  5. That's literally the only reason they wouldn't even TEST the kid for Lyme. Because the recommended antibiotic isn't great for kids' teeth.
  6. Azithromycin (the stuff that's in the z-packs people get for sinus infections, etc) is a great alternative for kids, and any doctor worth a damn will know that. But doctors just don't want to deal with Lyme, still, so they don't try.
  7. I should say SOME doctors.
  8. There are great ones out there.
  9. But this is the crap we deal with. Still.
