The laboratory was a simple affair, well ordered and maintained. It was a far cry from the squalid conditions of the slave camp Mitaya had been forced to work in just a few short months before. Yet, things just got worse. Within weeks of returning to Atlantis, a scandal broke out in hellfire. The pseudo-scientific research they had been engaging in, admittedly I assumed it was some sort of religious significance at first.

It mattered little know though, what mattered was perfecting the genetic manipulation project. To do so was needed if Mitaya's latest scheme was to come to fruition. That was the complete transcendence of the Tsujin people if the plan worked no longer would be bound by our fragile flesh. We will become a race of walking machines, unstoppable and immortal. Or at least that was the dream. However, the application had left a good deal to be desired so far.

You see, every criminal that has been used to test the mind-transferal surgery, in which the whole brain was transplanted. Had died. It was an infuriating development to be sure. Yet, it had shown invaluable data on how much stress the Tsujin mind could take. In the few instances where the transferal even worked, the mind suffered sensory overload and promptly went mad. How to overcome these issues, it was a quandary.

The answer came rather simply one day, Mitaya had been remembering their time in enslavement and recalled how certain other slaves seemed to thrive in their servitude. They did this not because they were any better than the other slave, they did it because they had long since turned off any emotion not needed for survival. They became dead to the world, perhaps if the emotional cognizance of the criminals was to be artificially reduced for the mind transferral the re-awakening of the cyborgs would be more bearable.

He laid there on the table, strapped down, restrained so that they did not thrash or flail. Which, of course, they attempted as the initial cybernetics where installed into their brain. Directly as the skull cap had been completely removed for ease of access. It was bloody work installing the emotional inhibitors on the subject. Though not an impossible one, after this was done the subject was given time to adjust to unemotionality.

After this brief interlude, the actual procedure began. The removal of the brain as well as the central nervous system and major organs. Which were then transferred to an awaiting cybernetic shell, which possessed the necessary life-support systems to keep the organs alive, next came the fusing of the outer plates onto the chassis. All this was done while the Tsujin mind was unconscious to avoid sensory overload.

All was ready as the mind was re-awoken, emotional inhibitors deactivated. The newly minted cyborg looked around the secure chamber it was being awoken in. Where-as most of the other cyborgs had either done nothing or went berserk. This one simply started to explore their surroundings, taking note of what was around them. After about fifteen minutes it stopped and looked straight at the hidden cammera. "I am ready to serve, Dr. Fret."
