- Episode 1:
- Positives:
- - Stellar character interactions. I really liked the small tidbit of Grillby's and Muffet's rivalry espicially. That was pretty well done. Also, Sans and Asriel's talk was kinda nice and Sans continuing to make bad flower puns at Asriel's expense shows that while he agreed to move on from the past, he sure as hell is not over it just yet.
- - Betty is cute,,,
- - Jessica Gray is actually a decent character. Her daughter being one of the fallen souls is a very excellent conflict towards the monster people since the one thing they can't erase is that 6 children went missing in Ebott and died
- - The soundtrack but that's a bonus point always
- Negatives:
- - The Anti Monster Department is a serious organization and has existed despite monsters being long forgotten. Why? Why does it exist at all?
- - The HSO Meeting. Why did that happen? What is the HSO even? That wasn't explained and for some reason they're holding a trial??? Wouldn't it make more sense for this to be a government affair? Also, why did Asgore have to answer how they broke the barrier and why did he say he used the human souls to do it? He literally did not and has no idea how he broke the barrier. Yes, six children fell and died, it would've made more sense if the "court" asked about that.
- - Monsters are doing such great things for society apparently but an anti-monster department is allowed to exist?? And somehow all within a month?????? This integration is really suddenly super smooth and then suddenly thrown out the window
- Episode 2
- Positives:
- - Good on Betty for picking Papyrus as her first target for the illusion shit she's gonna start pulling (I hope). He's naive and kind enough to fall for something as weird as a girl somehow on a crane and needs help getting down over the roof. It sounds stupid to most people, but Papyrus would 100% believe that.
- - The Tale of Two Siblings is an interesting idea. It's not like, super stellar, but I enjoy it. The parallels between the red soul and Frisk was a really nice touch, and I think it DOES make sense for something like that to happen. Undertale does take place a fantasy world, and the idea of creating a creature that would ensure peace never happens is wonderful.
- - SANS IS REALLY COMPELLING??? I don't know why but he was actually stellar in this episode. Sure he's much more serious than has canon counterpart, but his behavior made sense. He's been through so many resets now and Frisk just wanting to reset out of a really bad situation so quickly would definitely piss him off. ESPICIALLY since the day before Frisk was talking about moving on.
- - Frisk also has some decent characterization. It might seem odd for someone who was going on about not resetting the day before and then immeidately wanting to, but you need to remember Frisk is a child. One that has the power to control a timeline (well, technically not because they don't have the ability to RESET back but I think they might get it back). They're obviously going to want to run away from those situations.
- - The FEAR moment against Jessica Gray is really creepy.
- Negatives:
- - FEAR as a trait is inherently flawed. Determination is having the will to go on despite everything, including fear. Glitchtale rolls with the Red Soul being a "Determination" trait. So how is it that someone who is so determined to win would let their fears get to them? It doesn't really make much sense.
- - The Betty twist happened way too early. This is only episode 2 of a now 9 episode series, and Betty was cute for one episode before being... a villain. Also, she isn't very compelling. She's very flat as a villain. My current theory is that Akumu "possesesd" her in a way, but that doesn't really justify anything.
- - Also, her abilities are super fucking weird. Why is it that Asriel froze on sight when seeing Chara? Wasn't there a sort of redemption thing for Chara in the last season? Why is he afraid of CHara??? Jessica Gray freezing up at seeing her dead child makes sense. Its her dead child. But Asriel's been there done that
- Episode 3
- Positives:
- - The little character interactions. Just subtle things that make my writer heart happy. One particular thing was Asgore asking Asriel if he wanted to play catch after this. He's such a good dad. Jessica and Papyrus was also really feelsy and good.
- - ALSO, good on Jessica for being an adult and realizing that she was being really stupid for teaming up with Betty. And picking up the pace. She's actually pretty well written and her struggles are understandable.
- - GASTER. GASTER IS GREAT. He's super cool and also I'm glad he stepped up to the plate and could conquer his fear. That was WONDERFUL. Good on him for being reasonable. He's the only one who is going forward.
- - The soundtrack for this episode was particular stellar. Gaster's fight theme was really neat and hit a lot of the right beats. Also Gaster's magic is pretty cool too. Didn't I already rave about Gaster though...?
- - Undyne the Undyning LETS GO BABBYYYY. Also her credits song was really good, but I guess that goes into the last point. I'm glad that a proper form is being utilized though. And her reaction to Alphys dying is totally justified but...
- Negatives:
- - WHERE DID THESE BETTY POWERS COME FROM???? Why does she suddenly have an army of evil bubblegum that's killing children and taking their SOULs. Why can she suddenly control other magic after taking a lot of them? It doesn't make sense and is just a cheap plot tool to kill Gaster. I guess her plan for chaos makes sense enough except the fact that monsters wouldn't be blamed and humans and monsters are probably going to unite as a result, so her logic is flawed. But doesn't every great villain have flawed logic...? Yeah?? YEAH??? ALSO THAT WHOLE SOUL SWITCHEROO THING ALL OF A SUDDEN FOR UNDYNE WHAT THE SHIT WAS THAT???? FEAR ??? THAT MAKES NO SENSE BETTY COULD NOT HAVE SEEN THAT ILLUSION COMING AND WHY DID SHE LET THE SOUL SHE WAS GOING TO FEED TO AKUMU DIE THAT';S JUST AAAAAAAAAAA
- - Character death total: 3. Okay, so, Gaster dies understandablish. He was always risking his life going in the big nullifier chamber thing. He knew he was probably not going to make it out alive confronting Betty. So he entrusted Alphys to use the fucky machine. Of course, then Betty controls his magic and... Alphys acts in character and wants to be a hero, but of course FUCKS UP MASSIVELY. Like, damn, she didn't even get a CHANCE to shine. And of course Betty is neither a human or monster cause why would she be???
- Not LIKE SHE HAS A HUMAN SOUL OR ANYTHING YUEAH????? AKUMU OKAY AKUMU OBVIOUSLY ISN'T HUMAN OR MONSTER. That thing should reasonably live. But, BETTY THE HOST IS 100% HUMAN YOU CANNOT FOOL ME CAMI. That is a human SOUL trait that Betty has as you have established. That body is definitely human as you've established with her BLEEDING. Then again Gaster and Sans both started bleeding so who fucking knows I guess Cami thinks monster souls have blood or whatever. So then Betty with her untouchable 3rd episode plot armor kills Alphys and I'm shaking and crying and Alphys would never do this.
- - How did Undyne get to the underground and deep into the Core so fast? That's minor but it also bugs me.
- Episode 4 Part 1
- Positives:
- - Undyne... holy fuck... she's so good. Literally the best. AND SHE ALMOST WON TOO. Actually, she literally was going to win even against HATE. Thank god she is the best man that fight was so fucking cool. Even Betty was cool in that fight. It was great.
- - Poor Jessica Gray, she just wants to help. I feel bad for her and am totally invested in her character. Best Girl well no Undyne is best girl but Jessica is at least in the running. Also I'm glad the AMD cameras and shit were finally put to use properly. I'm glad she's fighting for the monsters now and it's really powerful that a system originally used for hate now is being used for good.
- - The Dreemurr interactions were hillarious and also wonderful. Asgore is such a good dad, Toriel is Toriel, and Asriel is so pure. Blessed son just wants everyone to get along in the face of danger.
- - Betty has improved! Her having to realize that maybe there's more emotion to her than she thought after taking in the HATE vial made me happy. It shows she at least has a little bit of depth. I'm also interested in how she said she was losing sight of her goals, it makes me feel like there's something deeper going on that we don't know. Also Akumu is really cute. The previous thing about not being monster/human was rectified in this episode, as we now see her body is a shell.
- - Also props to Cami for justifying monsters bleeding and giving them physical matter. I think it's a stretch but it's a justification enough.
- Negatives:
- - Waaay too much happened in this episode. Like, we got the really epic fight at the beginning yeah?? But then we cut to the school and nothing happens because Undyne and Betty have already dueled it out. The evil bubblegum is running away with their collected SOULs. But then in a quick weird succession we have Frisk's strange downfall and personality switch, along with bullying Jessica and other angst. That one piano song I swear played for like the entire second half of the video.
- - Everyone seems conveniently bad at commnicating. Like, it makes sense for Gaster to be super pissed at Alphys but why didn't Jessica just say "Alphys made me teleport you out of here and then went to activate the machine alone" or something like that?? If she didn't know Alphys was going to use the machine then that makes sense, but she still is just accepting being bullied. It just seems like things are being mentioned in passing when normally there would be an actual explanation. Undyne's explanation of Alphys dying makes sense. But Jessica... honey, pls,,,
- - LEVEL OF VIOLENCE GOES UP VIA SAYING SOME MEAN THINGS WHAT
- Frisk:
- - Frisk has to be in their own section because I am torn. On one hand, Frisk's logic makes sense. They're emotionally distancing themself from everyone so that their determination is rock solid and they're entirely focused on defeating Betty. They don't know that Undyne is basically a determined soul as well now and actually did almost defeat Betty, so logically they think they're the only one who can defeat Betty-- espicially because Gaster told them that. But like... this switch was waaaay too sudden. There was no hint of this happening in an earlier episode. I think at the same time however, it makes sense to be sudden. Frisk witnessed a child die. That's something they hadn't ever experienced in the underground. You can "justify" Frisk's genocide by saying the monsters are human, so Frisk shouldn't worry. Plus they don't bleed. But Frisk witnessed a cold blooded murder and saw the corpse of a child in a school. That's fucked up and tramuatizing, and could easily bring back some horrible memories.
- Episode 4 Part 2
- Positives:
- - The raw emotion in this episode. Like, holy shit. All the sit downs and talks were so well done. Asgore and Asriel's interaction, Asriel overcoming and working with Flowey, Papyrus and Gaster. They were so wonderful. And they had ACTUAL WEIGHT TO THEM. It was just so good I actually felt like crying I was inspired. Easily this was the best thing of this episode.
- - Frisk's emotional turmoil is also really interesting to watch unfold. They're grieving and can't handle it, so they're trying to resort to emotional distance and thinking that's what makes them strong. As the episode proves, sure you're strong, but you can only go so far with it. Hatred only breeds more hatred, and as a result Frisk ended up in a WORSE situation.
- - The theme of love vs hate is also really well done. Papyrus saving Sans through the power of love was really sweet and even if it's all flashy and such, it just continues the idea that love can overcome hate. Plus, in Papyrus standing back and trying to get through to Sans, they're able to force Betty to retreat. Betty could've had her ass handed to her by the powers of Frisk and Papyrus combined probably, but at what cost? Both Asriel and Sans? That could've been really shit man.
- - The fight between Frisk and Betty was still really cool tho. Frisk's a badass. One that needs a lot of love, not LOVE.
- - The art quality suddenly went up. It's still not fantastic, but the better lighting is a plus.
- Negatives:
- - This shouldn't be considered Part 2 to Episode 4, as this is its own standalone episode. The only continuation it has from Episode 4 is the expected one.
- - This episode was also probably too long and could've been split into two different episodes. However, it didn't go too bad with its pacing at least.
- - The soundtrack was not nearly as impactful as it was in other episodes. There's some goodies but, it was really kind of distracting from some of the more emotional moments.
- - why did asriel die
- - betty gets another bullshit ability
- The Black Beast:
- Positives:
- - um the song i guess
- Negatives:
- - this does not justify betty in anyway and i think she's worse
- - what is this brown soul trait
- Episode 5
- Positives:
- - Undyne showing grief is good. Characterization is still pretty solid for the most part, Gaster still hiding the truth from Papyrus while working diligently to rememdy it going with his inability to talk about his true feelings and rely on others. Also, Asgore standing up to Toriel made me cheer. I'm so proud of him
- - Cami has learned that Chara is not an irredemable piece of trash for fanon kicks and is an actual character with actual personality and feeling.
- - I still LOVE Gaster like wow. His memory flash scene was really sick and I really hope that it just was because he saw so many things that he was remembering the wrong timelines and that's why he couldn't remember his password. Cause, THAT'S cool.
- - Betty's new design actually looks pretty sick, I'm not gonna lie.
- Negatives:
- - IMMENSE PLOT STRETCHING WITHOUT EXPLANATION. Essentially, the worst deus ex machinas so far. While Chara coming into play is neat, it also feels like slapping a bandage on a broken leg and saying it's fixed. Frisk's characterization was all over the place (in my opinion, not a terrible way) but just straight up suddenly making them start glitching and die is NOT the way to go about fixing that! At all! Also, what the hell was Gaster's experiment exactly??? Was it to go to the void??? I'm not really sure what, but Chara was there I guess so WHATEVER.
- - "REPLACE". So why can... Frisk just... completely replace a person in a timeline? Does that mean that Frisk could, canonically if they chose, turn the entire Glitchtale timeline into Glitchshift? Or Glitchswap? This doesn't make sense and is yet another plot stretch.
- - Yellow SOUL guy seems awfully powerful for humans only having magic reawakened within a month, which worries me.
- - Jessica has been tossed to the side and beaten to shit... poor baby girl... Cami do her justice pLEASE.
- Episode 6 Part 1
- Positives:
- - This is an episode that actually feels like a two parter
- - The art quality got boosted again, and Betty looks even creepier. Rad.
- - AAAAA I WANT TO HUG EVERYONE. Yet again the characterization is really good. Gaster's finally breaking his shell of shutting everyone out and starting to let Papyrus in. Chara was also really neat to see, they're definitely a better protag than Frisk already.
- - BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY JESSICA. JESSICA IS A GOOD CHARACTER. And she's so cute in this episode omg, I think she's tied with Gaster as my favorite now. I'm glad she's started to lighten up completely too and accept where she's at, and I'm genuinely worried about her. And the rest of the characters.
- - The tension is through the roof and the soundtrack is back up to par with it.
- Negatives:
- - The first 4 minutes was absolute trash and completely disregarded the entire canon up to this point. The whole point was that they couldn't go back at all, yet somehow because Chara dies and now the timeline is being erased, through the power of determination they make one simple change and make a duplicate of Asriel's locket and give it to him. Wonderful?????????? Except that just DOESN'T MAKE SENSE SINCE ASRIEL ALREADY HAD HIS LOCKET but that's the bootstrap paradox baby it's shit
- - RAVE???? RAVE?????????? RAVE IS HIS NAME????? AND HE'S A CHARACTER I GUESS???????? He's so ugly and probably super unnecssary and just, UGH. speaking of unnecessary I don't like Ronan either. He's alright but he doesn't need to be a focus, like seriously. It was a little interesting to see some of the dynamics between the AMD and HSO but they're unrealistic organizations anyway so that kinda diminshed it. Also, why is the AMD even in charge of a heavily monster populated city...??? I know it doesn't really matter since they're not actually Anti-Monster anymore, but how long have they been in charge??? Like??? You can't just drop that bombshell of a question
- Episode 6 Part 2
- Positives:
- - JESSSSSSSSICCCCCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
- - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
- - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
- - okay okay so JESSICA IS THE BEST AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST IN MY HEART JUST WOWIE GOD WHY CAMI WHY DID YOU DO THAT MANNNNNN SHE'S JUST her death, was totally justified, yes, and everything about it was great and just wow BUT WHY DID SHE HAVE TO DIEEE
- - I'm so glad Mettaton got time to shine along with Muffet and Grillby, they were really just pushed to the side for most of this but it was neat to see the NEO form properly used.
- - I still really like Chara even though they didn't do much in this episode besides snippets. They're just... cool vibes.
- - PAPYRUS YEAHHHHH MY MAN HE WAS SO DAMN COOL LOOK AT THE BOY GO WITH HIS BONES AND SHIT JUST AAAHHHH
- - Essentially this episode made me scream a lot. It was great.
- - Also Betty got EVEN CREEPIER
- Negatives:
- - KAIJU BUBBLE GUM??? EXCUSE ME??? I GUESS IT MAKES SENSE BUT LIKE god Betty's actual "goal", now that it was explained, is really generic. Kill all monsters and rule the world. Really...?
- - Personally I really don't like Ronan. I don't think he's been set up for a ship as I heard people claim, espicially since he has a son, but... he's just kinda annoying. And we definitely haven't seen last of him either OTL
- - It was yet again too long. I think Cami probably should have taken like, the first few minutes of this episode and just put them at the end of the last and call this Episode 7. The title drop at the end of the episode I guess makes it the true two parter but it didn't connect as well.
