- Robert was trying to keep calm as he walked home from work, mumbling to himself about what was waiting for him when he got home. Today will be the day he finally gets some straight answers from his flatmate.
- At first, there was nothing wrong, Mizuki had come from japan for her job (supposedly helping with importing things from japan) and had been a godsend in terms of paying the rent. It had also helped that she was nice, and Robert considered her a friend and easy to get along with as, it was all you could ask for in a roommate, really.
- But then he started to realise things, things like not remembering when he had met Mizuki, and despite being around for months (was it months? he wasn't entirely sure...), he had no idea what her job actually entails. then there was the fact that she always kept to her room during the night, which made rob wonder what she was doing in there. He felt he was still missing something about her Like there was some in-joke he didn't get. He supposed it didn't help that in the weirdest of ways her mystery added to her charm.
- Things reached a tipping point when they had entered a hardware store and met Homura. the woman's respectful tone towards Mizuki would have got him wondering if she was just a rich girl using is house to lay low if it wasn't for the fact that Homura was sporting elven ears and was trying to pass off a bladed tail as a belt.
- All of which brought the conclusion that Mizuki wasn't must be one of the monstergirls, and while the deception irked him, the look of sympathy he got from Homura's husband while the women talked made it clear he wasn't the only one it's happened too. as if a final piece of the puzzle fell into place he stumbled upon the encyclopedias while cleaning his room.
- So he had actually used the roulette to summon her, and knowing him. He would have looked through everything before jumping into something like the wizard's E-mail plan. It was then that he fully remembered he had in fact, read the books, and with all the clues, meant that Mizuki was not just any monster, she was one of Zipangus's strongest; A Nurarihiyon
- God that name was mouthfull.
- Now aware of the situation (at least as much as he could be) Robert was heading home from work with plans to confront her. Thanks to getting wrapped up in business with his boss, he wasn't able to get back home until the sun had already set, something he had wanted to avoid as he had read that night was the Nurarihiyon's domain. With that in mind, he could only wonder what would happen when he got home.
- When he finally got inside his apartment, he was almost set on edge. Something felt unnatural in the air like something felt distorted. He was so focused on the feeling he was spooked when he heard a string being plucked.
- An instrument? music playing he guessed that music playing was just another of those this he didn't know about his flatmate. At any rate, the slow melody of the music felt like it was pulling him towards Mizuki's room, and seeing as he was going to confront her anyway, Robert let the flow take him. He was so lost in the music that he thought to knock on the door before entering. and it was only when he got inside he froze in complete awe.
- The room had been altered; Gone was the average room he knew, in its place was a room that looked like it was ripped Japanese period drama, from the matted floor to those sliding doors, hell the side was open to show out into a moonlit garden. if it wasn't for the purple mist lightly covering the ceiling it would have been perfect
- What in actual hell had she done? fixed a portal to her door? an illusion? So many questions flowed through his mind as he finally noticed that Mizuki kneeling near the back of the room next to a table that several bottles and two cups on it, continuing to play her instrument (A shamisen if he remembered correctly) with her eyes closed as if Robert hadn't entered.
- Her clothes were a drastic change as well. She was wearing a black kimono with a white flower pattern that looked like something noblewomen would wear... if it wasn't for the fact that it showed enough cleavage for her to see a beautiful flower tattoo over her heart, and was loose enough to show off her legs. She also had a pipe in her mouth, which appeared to be producing the purple mist coating the ceiling of the room
- It was like the humble businesswoman he had come to know had been replaced with a Beauty that was mesmerising and he could look at her all day.
- Mizuki finished whatever she was playing, and then set the shamisen aside before removing the pipe from her mouth and slowly exhaling purple vapour. There was a brief silence before she spoke.
- "moonlight steeped in spring rain;
- blossoms of wisdom and truth
- all from one little cup."
- She looked at him with the same serene expression he knew of her, but this time it was backed by air or authority. "Welcome Robert, I know you must be bursting at the seams with questions." she said as she sed the pip aside on a small tray, filled the two cups and patted beside her, "Come, sit and drink with me, you will get all your answers tonight, and maybe more." Robert sighed as he let go of the plans he had to confront her, as it was even with the would-be direct approach he was already outplayed. With that in mind, Robert sat down to her side, noting that he had a perfect view of the garden and moon. "Well then... ask away," she said as she drank from her cup.
- Robert scratched his chin for a second. "I guess I'll start easy, what is that in your pipe? doesn't smell like anything I recognise." If anything, the smell was a lot more pleasant to the sense than even most vapes.
- "Blend of fruit and herbs from the Zipangu monster realms. "It's nothing harmful I assure you. Would you like some?" She asked as she offered it.
- "I'm good on that... perhaps another time." He said before taking a swig from his cup. "Sake?" she nodded. "'Second question then... how are you doing all of this?"
- His whole body shuddered as her purple eyes glowed for a second. "It is part of my powers and some help from a friend, I wanted our little thing tonight to be perfect, so I had this put together. It's not permanent, this room will be back to normal at dawn."
- So it wasn't just an illusion? He was wondered just how powerful this friend of hers was. But those were questions for later. "I guess I ask the main one then, why the secrecy?"
- Mizuki took another drag of her pipe. "I wanted to see what kind of man I had been paired with for myself. The power to obscure things is not exactly a thing I control usually, the one one that made you forget that you had used the blue sage's game and other things like who I am to you. Even then, I trust my own judgement of that of the crows, so I would have done the same, sages game or not."
- "Crows?" Robert questioned.
- "The tengu network. The sage has crow tengu and a few of those squirrels check people out and then decide from there whether the man in question is eligible for the game. It's also how we can get in contact with friends and family back home for various reasons."
- "That makes sense if a little invasive..." Robert said. "So, I guess do I match up with what they said about me?... what did they say about me, even?" he questioned.
- "Less than you'd think, actually. They told me that you were shy around women," His face went a little red about that, "and that have troubles with taking action and decision making, having taken a longer than most to actually work the game, but an overall honest soul."
- Robert thought about it and then shrugged. "They're right about the decision making, I was `on to you about a week or so ago, and kept second-guessing myself about confronting you until today." He said with a chuckle.
- "Oh? And how did you think that would go?" Robert wasn't sure he liketh the look in her eyes.
- "Not sure to be honest I was going to come in with righteous anger and a whole `cut the bull` mentality in order to find out who you really were. But first contact and all that showed its face." He explained
- "Wanting to challenge a mistress of the night in her own domain? Not the smartest choice I admit, just another thing to help you with."
- "Help me?" Was it just him or was the purple smoke getting denser.
- "Of course, so many things you could do if you were so sure of yourself, I will not let my husband fade in indecision!"
- "...husband?" Robert twitched at Mizuki touching his shoulder, when had she gotten so close?
- "You don't seem to understand why I've prepared all this today. This day I make you mine Robert, this day... you will join the youkai's night." Before he could replay, Mizuki kissed him fully on the lips and Robert sank into the sensation as she undid his tie...
- ~X~ (next morning)
- Just as she had said, Robert woke up to being on a normal bed in a regular room. everything was as it should be (as far as he knew) like last night was a dream. But the sight of a normal room made annoyed him somehow.
- The experience had left him wanting more. Everything about last night was so exciting, so... words could not describe it. Was that what the yokai's night really felt like, He wanted to do it again.
- "Remembering last night, my love?" Rober looked to his sine into Mizuki's eyes. "How was it?"
- "I... feel like I want to go back. The feel of last night, That feel... it's addictive." Robert said as he sat up. "Is that normal?"
- "Already hungry for more of you're wife? I must have outdone myself." Mizuki laughed as Robert glanced away with red cheeks. "Don't worry, the night is ours we will enjoy its pleasures dusk till dawn. Even so... Now that we are finally together I think we should hold a celebration of sorts."
- "Celebration? I thought that was last night?" Robert asked confused.
- "That was a Celebration of our union, Something I plan to repeat many times more," She said as she sat up. "I was thinking something a little more social. Tell me, have you heard of the hyakki yagyo?"
- "Not sure I do, I remember it being something like a large parade of demons?" He shrugged.
- "hmm... close, but I'll tell you more about it later. For now..." Mizuki shifted in bed and straddled him.
- "But... its morning?" it was more of a question than a protest. He more than enjoyed the passionate side to her the night seemed to have given her.
- a"Indeed it is, however, we have some time before the sun actually comes up, so why don't we indulge in the night just a little longer." Robert noticed the purple mist from last night had started to drifted around the room as he and Mizuki enjoyed the dawn together. If this was what it meant to be with a mistress of the night, he would gladly welcome sundown with open arms.
