- Left 4 Dead 2 Campaign "TIME TO DIE"
- (Oct. 15, 2020)
- Frequently Asked Questions, or FAQ
- ..................................
- Q: CAN I PLAY VERSUS AND/OR SURVIVAL MODE WITH THIS ADD-ON?
- - A: No and no. Time to Die is an add-on exclusively for Campaign Mode.
- Scroll to the bottom for a more thorough explanation as to why.
- Q: WHAT MODS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ADD-ON?
- - A: I cannot give a perfect answer, but in general, texture and sound mods should not cause compatibility issues in most cases.
- Add-ons that include models, animations, or other campaigns are more likely to cause crashes. Enable these at your own risk.
- Q: HOW DIFFICULT IS THIS CAMPAIGN?
- - A: Time to Die is no more or less difficult than Valve's official campaigns.
- It uses default spawn rates for all Infected, and supplies are plentiful.
- Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BEAT THIS CAMPAIGN?
- - A: It will take you about 1 hour to beat Time to Die if you thoroughly explore every map.
- Time to Die was designed to be a reasonable length and comparable to official campaigns.
- Q: CAN MY COMPUTER RUN THIS ADD-ON?
- - A: My ability to test this campaign on other computers is limited, but if your computer can run L4D2, it should run Time to Die.
- Official campaigns will obviously run better, but Time to Die is not very taxing. Any computer from 2015 or later is perfect.
- Q: WHICH SURVIVORS ARE IN THIS CAMPAIGN?
- - A: Time to Die features the New Survivors from Left 4 Dead 2 as playable characters.
- However, you might catch glimpses of the Old Survivors if you know where to look...
- Q: WILL THIS ADD-ON BE RECEIVING UPDATES IN THE FUTURE?
- - A: Maybe, but only for minor bug fixes. No major additions to the campaign's content or level design are planned.
- Please comment on the Steam Workshop page with any bugs you find that are not already on the Known Issues list.
- Q: SO WHY EXACTLY IS THIS ADD-ON EXCLUSIVE TO CAMPAIGN MODE, HUH?
- - A: Making any campaign by yourself is a challenge, but the reason Time to Die took especially long is because I was learning and
- re-learning how to make Source levels as I built it. This meant every time I "finished" a map, I'd move on to the next one,
- learn a new technique, and then have to redo parts of my old maps to bring them up to the same standards. 2020 quarantining
- gave me more time to work, but progress was still slow. I would say it's a bit like building a boat when you're already at sea.
- To keep myself from losing my sanity, I then decided to exclusively focus on Campaign Mode for several important reasons.
- Campaign is the most popular mode for custom maps, it's much easier to design a campaign without Versus Mode compatibility,
- and Campaign is my favorite game mode, so I understand it best in terms of level design, pacing, and player expectations.
- What this means is that Time to Die will NEVER be Versus compatible in its current state. Infected players would have a
- miserable time navigating the levels and their immersion would be shattered every time they touched a skybox boundary.
- As for Survival Mode, I'd like to make the finale into a Survival map someday, but I simply don't have the time right now.
- If I ever make another L4D2 campaign, I will try to make it compatible with Versus and Survival. Making levels for games I
- love is a hobby I'll never grow out of, and with the knowledge I gained from Time to Die, any future efforts in the Source
- Engine will be twice as good in half the time. For now, though, don't hold your breath. Honestly, I need a goddamn vacation!
