  1. Decent Managed VPS providers
  2. Hi, Can anyone suggest a decent vps managed host?

  18. I prefer if they offer daily backups themselves stored on a separate SSD with at least 60GB of SSD space.
  19.
  20. Thank you in advance.
  21.
  22. Actually there are a lot of options you can chose from. But you need to me more specific with the location you need? Control panel you prefer? Budget?
  23. The best in terms of the time saving procedure would be searching in the offers section. There you can ask a question to the provider.

  27. I do understand there are many options but I need something reliable and nothing beats hearing from first hand experience hence why I asked.
  28.
  29. Have been looking for a while as well.
  30.
  31. Have used cpanel and whm for over 20 years so will stick with that control panel.
  32.
  33. Happy to pay around $50 a month for a managed vps.
  34.
  35. SSD space needs to be at least 60-80GB though.
  36.
  37. Have looked at Known Host, Linux Fox and inmotion.
  38.
  39. Not a fan of paying upfront 3 years in advance for a discount though.
  40.
  41. I am currently with Future Hosting and the issue I have is the ssd space. A 50GB plan I currently have needs to be about 25GB free to perform backups
  42. to S3. Add 3 or 4 busy sites and its simply not feasible.
  43.
  44. Thanks for the reply.
  45.
  46. $50/mo for managed SSD VPS isn't a big budget you have so your choice will be somewhat limited but you can find some options in this price range.
  47.
  48. You could just look at backing up your files without compressing them on the server first, this will eliminate the need for so much free working space on the server to perform the backup (because it needs the space to write the compressed archive) at the cost of extra bandwidth but if you look at incremental backup options that only sync changes over it might actually even use less bandwidth compared to uploading new full cPanel account backup for example. Then you can use more of that 50GB space you have on your account and still have bacups.
  49.
  50. You could look at jungledisk for example as a 3rd party incremental backup.

  71. I'm happy to recommend KnownHost but seems like you've crossed them off. Their monthly rates are pretty reasonable and definitely worth the money.
  72. LIMENEX - Fast, Reliable & Affordable Web Hosting
  73. Cheapest Comodo, GeoTrust, Thawte & Symantec SSL Certificates
  74. CLOUDHULK - Premium Cloud Hosting with 100% Uptime Guarantee

  76. A daily backup of 25 gigs? How long / how many backups do you expect to be kept? For $50 on SSD, you'll only get a couple day's worth in most places.
  77.
  78. Not sure how you're backing up to AWS but have you tried piping the backup through a zip command as its being uploaded? Never gets written to disk that way. I dont know your OS but the logic would be something like.... backup cmd | gzip | ssh-aws-storage.

  87. Thank you for the consideration @wolfaus.
  88.
  89. Since you host busy sites, it may be wise to choose a KVM VPS over an OpenVZ VPS. Inmotion and Future Hosting offer OpenVZ virtual servers. OpenVZ servers are often oversold. If your budget permits then a KVM VPS will offer better isolation and uptime.
  90.
  91. It is easy to configure WHM to transfer backups to S3. Any managed VPS provider should be able to help you with that. Make sure to ask them though.
  92.
  93. Thanks for the replies.
  94.
  95. Had no idea I have been with Future Hosting for 8 years this month.
  96.
  97. Had no real issues and if I did once a ticket is submitted its tackled very quickly with a reply in less than 30 minutes.
  98.
  99. So time does fly.
  100.
  101. Had a coupon applied to my account a long while back so after speaking with Jason for an extra $10 I jumped up to the next plan.
  102.
  103. The advantage with Future Hosting is that they have VPS Hosting in Australia.
  104.
  105. My issue was with the amounts of storage the vps plans offered.
  106.
  107. However no matter who you host with as I have discovered when backing up to Amazon S3 you need more or less half of the SSD to be empty for this to occur.
  108.
  109. So if you are signing up for a 50Gb SSD and you are making a back up to S3 it needs to be around 25GB empty. Might look at other external backup options where space is not required on the SSD.
  110.
  111. Thanks Again
  112.
  113. Most managed VPS providers will give you backup space that is equal to the space of your VPS. We tried the set amount of space model and were not happy with it. What if a client has 50gb data but is subscribed to a 25gb plan and then needs a full backup to restore a server? A managed plan should provide near total satisfaction. You can add certain things as addons but backups shouldn't be messed with.

  116. Not sure if I am understanding you here.
  117.
  118. How can someone have 50GB of data when there plan is only 25GB?
  119.
  120. Have I missed something here?
  121.
  122. Its the way Cpanel/whm works. For on same ssd backups or to S3 you need at least 50% of free space. The reason is that the file needs to be created so the space is needed then transferred across to S3.
  123.
  124. Roger that. I guess this is because Cpanel dumps the backup first before transferring. Most modern backup systems don't work that way. It's primitive but it works.
  125.
  126. A decent managed VPS provider will have their own backup system in place. If you want to do extra Cpanel backups to S3 that is also fine, of course. A provider will help you with that as part of their overall support SLA but they would also provide at least one layer of file of file backups.

  129. Yeah I agree. Backups should either be provided as part of the vps package or you have an option to pay for this to be done which you can access any time. Backups would take place on a separate backup ssd and no matter how much data you have on your vps ssd backups still occur.
  130.
  131. Its all good for now though. Future Hosting have been great. Been with them for so long and a ticket is always answered in around 15-30 minutes. There is always someone there.
  132.
  133. I remember Future Hosting used to be active on WHT many moons ago. Can't remember seeing anyone from there post in a while though. Glad you're happy there.

  136. You are right. But they would have a very established client based with many loyal customers. I found them on this forum back in 2010.
  137.
  138. I doubt you're going to find a provider that gives additional storage for just backups outside of something like R1Soft or similar - you'll need to size the VPS you're looking for appropriately to ensure there's adequate free storage to accommodate the local backups. Most, if not all, are going to be automated and provision the VM as a single volume, not a VM with multiple disks.

  141. You are right. As far as I have seen, they have shifted their focus to Google Ads.
