I totally understand your concern, gee. Right now, we don't have any update regarding Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 devices.
However, there is a promotion going on currently on Moto X4. If you trade-in for you new Nexus devices for Moto X4 before October 5, you will receive $50 extra along with the estimated value for your old device.

What is the return policy regarding the pixel devices though? Would I be able to return the device to purchase the 2 XL when it releases?

gee, right now we don't have any information regarding trade-in options available with Pixel XL 2. Need not to worry, when the phone will be released out, we will send you an email notification with all the information.
