  1. Good afternoon, it’s - 6 degrees here at the Loyola Campus of Concordia University. I’m Jessica Jaschek and here are today’s top stories: we'll be taking a closer look at Valerie Plante's promises on social housing, we'll celebrate, as Montreal elects its first Indigenous city councillor, and we'll speak with some Saint-Lazare residents, who are worried about a lack of fire hydrants. And now with our top story: During her campaign, new mayor Valerie Plante made many promises to Montrealers. Some of them have gotten more support than others. Our reporter Josephine Mina has the story.

  8. Valerie Plante’s win was a huge victory for Projet Montreal, but minority candidates didn't fair so well in the election. With the four visible minority candidates in office all belonging to the Coderre team, the lack diversity is a familiar sight in Montreal politics. Erdene Batzorig is live. So Erdene, were there any minority candidates running in the election for Projet Montreal?

  13. Marie Josee Parent will make history once Montreal’s new administration is sworn in. She will be Montreal’s First Indigenous representative elected in a borough. Parent has been working on Montreal’s reconciliation policy for the past several years and believes that Montreal has been making progress with relations with the First Nations community. Parent plans to create programs for the elderly and ensure that snow removal and upkeep is done properly.

  15. A 23-year- old man has died while in custody at the municipal courthouse in Montreal. The man had been placed in the cell at around 7:30 am with 12 other inmates. The Quebec Independent Investigations Bureau is looking into the circumstances as they are mandated to investigate all incidents where someone dies while in custody. The cause of death is still unknown.

  17. Some would say that the weather this fall has been better than most of our summer. Although this could be a serious effect of climate change, the surf community is happier than ever. Marco Galluccio has more on the story.

  22. Plans are underway to change roads in a dangerous area of St-Leonard. More than one person gets injured each year on three consecutive intersections. That’s three times the number of injuries on the neighbouring roads. Verdier, Dollier and Lisieux are parallel streets that cross Jean-Talon Boulevard. Plans are already in the works to revitalize the area. The borough’s mayor says they will redesign intersections and widen the sidewalks to make Jean-Talon Boulevard safer.

  24. Saint- Leonard gets more than 300 new kids every year, which has prompted the school board to build a new elementary school. They’ve already begun work expanding Le Centre Ferland, currently being used as an adult education Center. The School Board says Le Centre Ferland was the last building available for an expansion to be created into an elementary school. A competition will be launched within the coming weeks to help determine the name of the school. The adult education center will moving to Montreal North.

  26. With female enrolment in the tech industry on the rise. There is still a gender imbalance in the industry. According to statistics Canada, Women represent only 40 per cent of employees in the tech world.

  33. A doctor at the Montreal General Hospital is being sued for sexual harassment. A respiratory therapist claims that Robinson told her he’d pay for sex, and would send her inappropriate sexual text messages. She claims the hospital failed to take the necessary actions to end the harassment. Robinson is still employed at the Montreal General Hospital. Hearings are scheduled to begin soon.

  35. A busy intersection in Pierrefonds-Roxboro has parents concerned about their children's safety. Accidents have been occurring at the intersection because of drivers not respecting road signs. Alexander Cole has more.

  47. The Olympic Stadium will finally be getting a new roof. The provincial government has given the Olympic Installation Board the green light to replace the 20-year-old roof. The budget for the project is upwards of 300 million dollars. The O.I.B would like for the project to be completed by 2023. According to the latest report there were a total of 7453 tears in the roof between 2007 and 2016.

  49. Artist groups are happy that Quebec is going ahead with plans to tax Netflix. But what’s good for the province’s art and media industry, may not be good for consumers. Alyssia Rubertucci has more.
