  1. The Golden Coast is an ancient desert with jungles and farms sprouted up around fertile rivers that lies near the easternmost reaches of the world. It is home to grand cities rich with wealth and trade, the native Al'Siran, and a variety of peoples (some even normally deemed monsters, such as gnolls or lizardmen) seeking to make their fortune by trade. The Golden Coast is filled with dangerous creatures, lost treasures, ancient ruins, powerful magic, and a rich culture where any are welcome so long as they bring coin. This place has no central rulers or governments, rather each civilized settlement is ruled independently by merchant guilds and councils who seek to secure trade and wealth. There is no greater crime than interfering with trade, and offences are met with swift and harsh punishment. More often than not the punishment of choice, even for the most trivial theft, is death - to lose a body part is the most merciful of punishments.

  3. Slavery is common among the civilized Al'Siran, and the most commonly worshipped things are coin and the the sun god Lonin. There are great family lineages of the super wealthy that rule over the peoples and employ vast swathes of common folk - the roots of the wealthy run deep in the coast and you were a domestic slave to one of these wealthy families. You were a slave to the family Al'Sutani which controlled the major port city, Zandor. Your masters, just as many of the wealthy there, had their hands in just about everything but they are known for owning the Bank of Zandor, which houses much of the world's platinum. You would have spent much of your time within their vast palace-like home within the city's heart, tending to the daily upkeep of the grounds, personally serving one or more of the 10 children and 30 grand children, or serving the master & mistress themselves.

  5. Whether you purchased your freedom, earned it from long-term loyal servitude, escaped, or were gifted it for some outstanding reason, you managed to leave behind your life as a slave and garnered passage on a trade ship destined for the island continent of Eros. You heared that Eros is a place of new beginnings for people, a place where your past is forgotten and matters to none. From a contact, or friend, within Zandor you managed to attain fake documentation allowing you entry to the Dawn Republic in Eros. This would have been a long journey of many months to the western reaches of the world, and you docked in an island port city called Highrock home to draconic humanoids called Drakken, or more commonly Dragonborn or Dragon-men. From there you crossed to the mainland of Eros and spent 3 weeks crossing ruggest, rocky, and mountainous terrain devoid of much life beyond dull grass and dying bushes. That is when you reached the Grey Peaks, a mountain range lying on the borders of the Dawn Republic. You passed through one of their border gates, called the Mist Gate, which is neighbored by the small town of Mistdale. You quickly moved through Mistdale, and after just a few hours of leaving behind the town and gate that is when you stumbled across the party.

  7. The circumstances of leaving slavery is up to you and who you gained this documentation from (as well as how) is up to you; maybe you called on an old friend, called in a favor, maybe you now owe a debt, etc.
