- This mastodon instance's name derives from STAR, the organization created by Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson. The admin lives with some of the surviving members who gave her permission to utilize the name in this domain. Any among the wretched of the earth are welcome, just as they both would welcome you.
- However they weren't fools either.
- Want a safeish space but also kinda believe in due process?
- Here's the system. The following framework. Think of it like a constitution of sorts.
- No dog piles, witch hunting, or anything resembling it.
- For any reason.
- In exchange a system of fair arbitration and justice will be formed composing of a number of moderators proportional to the server population size to help enforce the rules.
- Moderators will for a term of one year be elected by instant runoff vote of all those participating in said vote, and running for said moderator position.
- Moderators may usually only have one term, but in the event of lacking any large population to support this policy an additional one year term may be allowed if the candidate receives a unanimous vote. Should the population rise to the point that a second moderator is needed a new election will be held for the new open moderator spot.
- Rules must not be made that give unfair advantage over any group of people or individuals especially traditionally marginalized identities, conversely in the interests of maintaining the health and wellness of a democracy it's quite needed to ban fascism and fascist ideologies, and those who hold them, no matter what the identity of the person is who holds them.
- New rules may be proposed by moderators and the administrator but must be ratified by a simple majority of the voting server population.
- New rules may be proposed by the server population by a simple majority, but must also be ratified by a majority of the moderation team.
- The Administrator is an unelected position out of matereal necessity, the admin runs the server and keeps the server running.
- The admins roles and responsibilities are limited to those functions except when executing the will of the subscriber population via a mandate poll of 75% or higher during user called emergency polls. Moderators may not interfere with an emergency poll, nor may they vote on one. However the administrator has the final judgment on what actions to take to correct the emergency.
- A third role, one of arbiter is to be created to oversee ban appeals and review bans made by moderators to ensure they are within the scope of the rules and lift them if they are not, and reviews emergency actions by the administrator for fairness
- Arbiter is an unelected position appointed by the administrator until the arbiter resigns. The arbiter however may be removed from office by a supermajority server vote of 75% or higher with a unanimous vote from the admin and mod staff.
- Banned users may appeal to the arbiter at any time and present their cases, however they only get one appeal. The arbiter should be as fair and evidence based in their decisions as possible erring on the presumption of innocence.
- During an appeal it is up to the moderators to prove that the infraction took place. The banned user may present counter-evidence. Whatever the arbiter decides in the matter is the final decision.
- In the matter of banning for fascism, fascist ideologies and fascist behavior appeals may be denied to blatant and obvious fascists. This is up to the arbiter, since it's their time you would be wasting and justice should be swift. In this case profanity said by the arbiter to said fascists may be considered a verbal denial of an appeal.
- Additional rules beyond this point must be user created.
